'Laurentie' Will Compete at the Karlovy Vary Film Festival
Mathieu Denis's and Simon Lavoie's Laurentie will be part of the Karlovy Vary Film Festival. This event will be held in the Czech Republic from July 1 to 9.

While no release has been announced, it should be in fall 2011 in Quebec.

According to the press release The Cultural Post received, the film is about a 28-year-old guy (Emmanuel Schwartz) living in Montreal. This guy, named Louis, hates his life, Quebec and everything that surrounds him. He doesn't know what to do about his life. One day, he sees his neighbour (Jade Hassouné) and has a crush on him. Unfortunately, Louis doesn't speak English and believes he can't reach his neighbour.

The film also stars Eugénie Beaudry.

'10 ½' Will Open the Fnc
The organizers of Montreal's Festival du nouveau cinéma (Fnc) announced that 10 1/2, the second feature film by Canadian director Daniel Grou, will open this festival. The Fnc will take place in Montreal from October 13 to 24.

The film was produced by Pierre Gendron and was scripted by Claude Lalonde (Les 3 p'tits cochons).

It tells the story of Tommy (Robert Naylor), a ten-years-old-and-a-half boy. Because he is prone to have a violent behaviour, Tommy has always been handled by social services. However, Gilles (Claude Legault), his social educator, believes that Tommy's life can be put back on track.

The film also stars Mélanie Desjardins-Chavaudier, Eugénie Beaudry and Albert Kwan.

Finally, no release date has been announced for this film.

Demain (2008)
Some people try to give to the idiom "silence is golden" a positive meaning. However, in the case of Maxime Giroux's Demain, that experience slightly fails. In fact, the film looks good on paper, but doesn't live up to its potential.

Sophie (Eugénie Beaudry) is a young woman living in an unidentified Canadian city. She works in an office and also has to take care of her diabetic father (Serge Houde). After a night in a bar, Sophie meets Jérôme (Guillaume Beauregard), a construction worker who works without a permit, and they both fall for each other. However, like Jérôme, Sophie doesn't really think about her future and just wants to live the present time.
