This Is the Most Evil Christmas Villain of All Time
Image
For every hero that ends up saving Christmas, there has to be at least one villain that aims to stand in its way; Hans Gruber (Alan Rickman), The Grinch, Professor Hinkle from Frosty the Snowman, just to name a few. None of these villains or any others come close to the level of evil and disregard that Burgermeister Meisterburger has. He is the single most evil Christmas villain ever depicted for a variety of reasons, but mainly because he simply chooses to be evil and never accepts nor achieves any sort of redemption in the movie, contrary to the other villains who either have ulterior motives for what they do, or are eventually redeemed in some way.

Jim Carrey's Grinch Movie Used to Be Hated: What Happened?
Image
Perhaps one of the classic examples of the power of peace and love can be seen within The Grinch’s character arc. He goes from a foul one to a lovable cheer meister. His heart grew three sizes in one night, but it took nearly 20 years for the live-action film to embrace the hearts of its viewers. Dr. Seuss’s How the Grinch Stole Christmas is now considered a modern holiday classic and is replayed and broadcast on a variety of networks during the Christmas season.

The film was released in 2000 and stars Jim Carrey as everyone’s favorite green creature of Whoville. Ron Howard directed the Christmas film, which featured large set pieces, colorful visual effects, and a narration from Sir Anthony Hopkins. While the film was a box office smash hit, becoming the highest-grossing movie of 2000, it was not well-liked by critics. It has a 49% score on Rotten Tomatoes...

With the Holidays Just Around the Corner, Where Can You Stream All 3 'Grinch' Movies?
Image
November is here, and that means the holiday season isn’t far behind! Christmas is now fewer than eight weeks out, and many lovers of the yuletide time of year are already setting up their holiday watchlists. It’s hard to imagine such watchlists being truly complete, however, without a visit from Dr. Seuss’s mean, green, Christmas-hating Grinch!

There have been three Grinch movies made thus far; 1966’s animated classic “How the Grinch Stole Christmas,” the Jim Carrey-starring live-action movie of the same name which first came out in 2000, and 2018’s animated “The Grinch,” starring Benedict Cumberbatch as the holiday-loathing titular character.

Where Can You Watch ‘How the Grinch Stole Christmas’ (1966)

The original Grinchy adventure makes for fond memories, especially for millennials who recall fondly watching the film during elementary school parties before the holiday break. The film is available to stream on Peacock, which offers a great...

Homer Simpson, Shrek, & More Cartoon Characters Become Horrifying Creatures In Realistic Art
Image
AI-generated art turns beloved cartoon characters like Homer, Shrek, Mickey Mouse, and the Grinch into realistic monster creatures. Recognizable cartoon characters like Mickey Mouse and Homer are ripe for AI reimaginings due to their place in popular culture. The release of Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey attempted to capitalize on the dark curiosity and thrill that comes with turning childhood icons into something much more sinister.

A disturbing new batch of AI images turns Homer from The Simpsons, Shrek, and more iconic animated characters into horrifying and realistic monsters. First airing in 1989, The Simpsons remains the longest-running animated show ever, following Homer and his family as they deal with the trials and tribulations of everyday life in Springfield. The titular family are only several of a number of cartoon characters who are instantly-recognizable, with movies and shows both old and new having now introduced dozens of iconic character designs...

Steven Spielberg at an event for The 79th Annual Academy Awards (2007)
The Super Mario Bros. Movie Review
Steven Spielberg at an event for The 79th Annual Academy Awards (2007)
Summer 1993. Dinosaurs ruled the world again in more ways than one as Steven Spielberg’s Jurassic Park devoured the box office in June of that summer. And that was despite being strangely unfancied after the director’s run of form that year and the big leaps needed to make the film work. Instead, it famously took down Arnold Schwarzenegger and Last Action Hero, released the weekend after. But it wasn’t the only film with dinosaurs in it that summer, as there was the small matter of the long-awaited Super Mario Bros a few weeks earlier but they were made extinct even quicker.

Suffice it to say, any notions of bringing the mustached brothers back to the screen were nixed for three decades, until now as animation giants Illumination thought they would have a go at re-vitalising Nintendo films with something much more in keeping with the video games and...

American Dad Clip Sees Betrayal Turn Roger Into The Grounch [Exclusive]
Image
Screen Rant is excited to present an exclusive clip from the season 17 finale of American Dad!, perfect for this holiday season. The upcoming finale will be inspired by the classic character The Grinch, but with an American Dad! twist. When Roger discovers he's been left out of a holiday-themed orgy he makes an unexpectedly terrifying transformation into the Grounch.

Similar to the iconic Grinch character, he's covered in green fur and quickly uses his abilities to steal everyone else's fun. However, instead of targeting the Christmas spirit, The Grounch is jealous of everyone else's sexy fun with Roger, now the sex-hating Grounch, snatching away any chance they have of enjoying the party. American Dad! first premiered on Fox in 2005, but began debuting on TBS in 2014 with season 15. The season 17 finale of American Dad!, "The Grounch" will premiere on TBS on December 19, just in time for Christmas.

Where To Watch Every Version of How The Grinch Stole Christmas In 2022
Image
For many years, Christmas movies featured happy tales of bringing joy to the little ones. From the first version of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer in 1948 to the Rankin Bass reboot of the same story in 1964, the stories were all about Christmas cheer. Then, in 1966, How the Grinch Stole Christmas changed everything. The made-for-tv special was based on Dr. Seuss's book from 1957.

Dr. Seuss's children's book, How the Grinch Stole Christmas is a story that criticizes consumerism at Christmas. In the original story, the Grinch lives on the mountain by Whoville and hates everything about Christmas, so he sets out to destroy it. The only thing that stops him is a little girl who shows him the true Christmas spirit and helps his heart grow. It was a perfect story to adapt into a cartoon and brought in legions of fans with several adaptations of the children's story.

Harry Potter: 10 Characters & Their Popular Holiday Character Counterparts
Image
With news of Warner Bros. being interested in more Harry Potter films and actors like Ralph Fiennes wanting to return to the series, it's clear that the franchise is far from finished. Of course, among Potterheads, the series has remained as iconic and adored as ever, especially during the holidays.

But beyond comfort re-watches and great gift inspirations, Harry Potter also connects to the holidays in an unexpected way: through the similarities between some characters from the franchise and popular holiday films. From Dumbledore and Santa's biased reward systems to Snape and Scrooge's eventual redemption arcs, there are many ways in which these members of the Wizarding World relate to classic holiday characters.

Argus Filch - The Grinch

The Hogwarts caretaker, Argus Filch, is notorious for his grumpy attitude and seeming intolerance for students' joy and mischievous behavior. This is exactly why his holiday character counterpart is The Grinch.

Trailer Talk: The Mean One
Image
Ah, Christmas. It’s a time of good food, glad tidings, and…erm… Grinch horror parody movies? Yes, new festive slasher The Mean One, clearly taking inspiration from Dr. Seuss’s iconic Christmas-hating recluse, shared a trailer this week – and given it’s the season for gifts (and our Twitter Advent Calendar is in full swing), Team Empire couldn’t resist gathering for a special, bonus, online-only edition of Trailer Talk. Watch the trailer below, and read our unfiltered, uncensored, uncompromising reactions…

John Nugent (Reviews Editor): What is The Mean One? Is the Grinch out of copyright or something? Is this like a Winnie The Pooh: Blood And Honey thing?

Sophie Butcher (Social Media Editor): It looks like the filmmakers can't use the original version, it's still under copyright. Maybe that's why they don't ever actually mention 'The Grinch'. It's also set in Newville, not Whoville,...

Indie Spotlight
We return with the latest edition of the Indie Spotlight, highlighting recent independent horror news sent our way. Today’s feature includes details on graphic novel Graveyard of Empires, the Season 2 premiere of Scott Ian’s Blood and Guts, Cowboys Vs. Vampires distribution news, and much more:

Graveyard of Empires Graphic Novel: “From Alexander the Great’s Macedonian army to Genghis Khan’s Mongol horde to the British Imperial machine of the nineteenth to the Soviet Union to the twenty-first century United States of America, no occupying force has ever been able to control Afghanistan — the very reason it’s known as the Graveyard of Empires. Mark Sable and Paul Azaceta drew upon that history in their Image Comics series Graveyard Of Empires, set in present-day Afghanistan, where American troops are caught in a seemingly unending conflict with the Taliban. That is, until a new enemy enters the field: the undead.
