NBCUniversal is planning a second year-round horror destination for the Second City.

Universal Destinations & Experiences will open a location of its new concept called Universal Horror Unleashed in Chicago, Illinois, targeting a 2027 debut.

The new location will be located across the street from the forthcoming Bally’s Casino, in a 114,000-square-foot commercial building at 700 W. Chicago Avenue, directly on the river (the building used to be owned by the Chicago Tribune). The company will receive a tax credit from the state of Illinois, which has an estimated value of more than $7.2 million, according to public filings, and is targeting 210 full-time jobs.

The company is planning to open its first Universal Horror Unleashed location in Las Vegas later this year, with experiences based on The Exorcist and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

The locations are based on Universal’s successful Halloween Horror Nights in Florida and California, which feature elaborate haunted houses and mazes.

The ongoing Immigration and Customs Enforcement (Ice) deportation efforts continue to cause tense discussion on both sides of the political aisle, with MSNBC’s Joy Reid recently accusing the Trump administration of “performative raids.” On Tuesday’s (January 28) edition of Fox News’ Jesse Watters Primetime, President Donald Trump‘s newly appointed “border czar” and former acting Ice director Tom Homan reacted to a clip from Reid’s show, calling her “dumber than a box of rocks.” In the clip, Reid and New York Attorney General Letitia James blasted Trump’s deportation policies, which have seen Ice agents raiding communities across the United States to detain illegal immigrants who they claim are criminals. This included talk of Chicago’s Mayor Brandon Johnson, who said the raids were meant to “stoke fear into the American people.” Homan fired back at these comments on Fox News, saying of Reid, “She’s dumber than a box of rocks.

During the ride-along in Chicago, McGraw witnessed a tense moment as Ice officers arrested Sam Seda, an undocumented immigrant from Thailand, who was wanted on charges of child sex crimes. When McGraw asked Seda if he had been charged with child sex offenses, Seda responded, “Not really,” visibly shocking the TV host. If you were a casual fan of "The Chi," the South Side Chicago drama series that premiered in 2018, you were probably a bit confused when major character Brandon Johnson (Jason Mitchell) was suddenly written out of the show. Season 2 ended with the character in a rough, complicated spot, letting fans wonder in the break between seasons just how he was going to handle all the chaos. The opening of season 3 revealed that he wouldn't be handling it at all. He died off-screen between seasons -- or, as fans of "The Simpsons" might put it, Brandon died on the way back to his home planet.

On Wednesday, an Arizona grand jury indicted 18 of Donald Trump’s allies for trying to overturn his 2020 election loss in the state.

Boris Epshteyn, a former White House aide who has remained one of Trump’s closest advisers, former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani and former White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows are three of 18 indicted allies. Their names were redacted in documents released, but court officials confirmed that they were included in the group charged.

Through its first six seasons, identifying who voiced one of the many aliens, critters, or goobers on Rick and Morty was a pretty easy thing to do. Years from now, when someone is catching up on “Rick and Morty” during an afternoon HBO Max binge, the Season 4 premiere will make for a curious stop. Much like the stealth Season 3 premiere, dropped on April Fool’s Day 2017 in an extreme case of committing to the bit, it’s hard to separate this episode from the context in which it arrives.

The last new “Rick and Morty” episode came 25 months ago, and it’s easy to see this return to the air as both a nod to fan favorite slices from years past and a reset of sorts, brought on by that time away. We now have confirmation about exactly how “The Chi” will deal with the exit of the Showtime drama’s former star Jason Mitchell: they’re going to kill his character.

“There is a lot of great life in ‘The Chi’ and there’s also death in ‘The Chi’ and that’s how we’ll be dealing with it,” Showtime Networks co-president of entertainment Gary Levine told reporters during the Television Critics Association press tour on Friday.

When a reporter followed up with the question, “So he’ll be killed off?” — referring to Mitchell’s character, Brandon Johnson — Levine responded with a nod.

“The Chi” creator Lena Waithe will appear on the upcoming third season of the Showtime series, Showtime Networks’ president of entertainment Gary Levine said during the Television Critics Association press tour Friday.

The mystery role — which Levine didn’t give additional details on when announcing the news to reporters during his executive session with fellow president of entertainment Jana Winograde — will mark Waithe’s first time performing on her own show.

Levine further spoke about the third season of “The Chi” when addressing how the show will handle the exit of former star Jason Mitchell, who was fired in May following misconduct accusations during the course of the production.

MTV has rescinded “The Chi” actor Jason Mitchell’s nomination at the 2019 MTV Movie and TV Awards after he was fired from the series last week amid reports of inappropriate behavior.

“In light of recent developments, we have removed Jason Mitchell as a nominee,” an spokesperson for MTV told TheWrap.

Mitchell was nominated for Best Performance in a Show for his performance as Brandon in season two of “The Chi.” The category is now dominated entirely by female actors, as Mitchell was the only male nominated alongside Emilia Clarke (“Game of Thrones”), Elisabeth Moss (“The Handmaid’s Tale”), Kiernan Shipka (“The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina”) and Gina Rodriguez (“Jane the Virgin”).

Jason Mitchell's MTV Movie & TV Award nomination is the latest casualty of the actor's alleged misconduct on the sets of a TV show and film.

MTV on Wednesday confirmed that it had revoked Mitchell's nomination for "best performance in a show" for his role as Brandon Johnson on the Showtime series The Chi.

“In light of recent developments, we have removed Jason Mitchell as a nominee," an MTV spokesperson said.

Mitchell was dropped from The Chi and the Netflix film Desperados on account of misconduct issues on both sets, as The Hollywood Reporter reported in March. A ...

Additionally, Showtime has confirmed that Mitchell will not be a part of “The Chi” Season 3. Mitchell, who played Brandon Johnson on the Lena Waithe-created series, was considered the lead of the show and this month received an MTV Movie & TV Awards nomination for Best Performance in a Show.

Showtime did not comment beyond that, but a rep for Fox 21, which produces “The Chim” said Mitchell’s option for Season 3 was not picked up. The studio had no comment or statement beyond that.
