As President Donald Trump calls on Immigration and Customs Enforcement (Ice) to ramp up arrests and deportations in America’s biggest cities, because they are the “Democrat Power Center,” he and his administration are eyeing Illinois for the next militarized crackdown.

The ongoing Immigration and Customs Enforcement (Ice) deportation efforts continue to cause tense discussion on both sides of the political aisle, with MSNBC’s Joy Reid recently accusing the Trump administration of “performative raids.” On Tuesday’s (January 28) edition of Fox News’ Jesse Watters Primetime, President Donald Trump‘s newly appointed “border czar” and former acting Ice director Tom Homan reacted to a clip from Reid’s show, calling her “dumber than a box of rocks.” In the clip, Reid and New York Attorney General Letitia James blasted Trump’s deportation policies, which have seen Ice agents raiding communities across the United States to detain illegal immigrants who they claim are criminals. This included talk of Chicago’s Mayor Brandon Johnson, who said the raids were meant to “stoke fear into the American people.” Homan fired back at these comments on Fox News, saying of Reid, “She’s dumber than a box of rocks.

TV personality Dr. Phil McGraw joined U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (Ice) agents on a ride-along Sunday as part of a nationwide crackdown targeting undocumented immigrants, including individuals with criminal records.
During the ride-along in Chicago, McGraw witnessed a tense moment as Ice officers arrested Sam Seda, an undocumented immigrant from Thailand, who was wanted on charges of child sex crimes. When McGraw asked Seda if he had been charged with child sex offenses, Seda responded, “Not really,” visibly shocking the TV host. Ice officials confirmed that Seda had a criminal record for sex offenses involving children.
Tom Homan, Ice’s Border Czar, said Seda’s case highlighted the risks posed by sanctuary cities, where local authorities limit cooperation with federal immigration enforcement. “Sanctuary cities allow dangerous individuals to remain on the streets,” Homan said.

If you were a casual fan of "The Chi," the South Side Chicago drama series that premiered in 2018, you were probably a bit confused when major character Brandon Johnson (Jason Mitchell) was suddenly written out of the show. Season 2 ended with the character in a rough, complicated spot, letting fans wonder in the break between seasons just how he was going to handle all the chaos. The opening of season 3 revealed that he wouldn't be handling it at all. He died off-screen between seasons -- or, as fans of "The Simpsons" might put it, Brandon died on the way back to his home planet.
It's not unlike what happened in the sixth and final season of "House of Cards," where Frank Underwood (Kevin Spacey) was revealed to have died off-screen, even though audiences certainly knew this was not the writers' plan back for him when they were finishing up season...

Chicago — The first major protest during the Democratic National Convention on Monday was primarily a peaceful one as more than 200 coalitions, according to organizers, gathered at Union Park, blocks away from the United Center where major events for the DNC are taking place this week. The goal, according to those in attendance, was to demonstrate for Palestine, and pressure Kamala Harris, who will accept the Democratic nomination for president on Thursday, to call for a cease-fire in the Israel-Hamas war and a weapons embargo.

A California Bar Court Judge Yvette Roland ruled that conservative attorney John Eastman, one of the co-conspirators in former President Donald Trump‘s plan to overturn the 2020 election, should be disbarred.
Eastman testified before the State Bar of California in June 2023 in a proceeding aimed to strip him of his license to practice law in the state.
He was one of Trump’s lawyers in 2020 and played a large role in helping him try to overturn the results of that year’s election, which the former president falsely claims was “stolen” by Joe Biden and Democratic officials.
He also devised a plan involving former Vice President Mike Pence invalidating the 2020 results during a joint session of Congress which had convened to count the electoral votes.

Three lawyers who assisted Trump lawyer Sidney Powell‘s campaign in mounting legal challenges to the 2020 election results have been charged by bar investigators in Washington, D.C. They have been accused of violating disciplinary policies and are facing disciplinary charges.
The attorneys, Juli Haller, Lawrence Joseph and Brandon Johnson, are accused of knowingly making false representations to courts about a series of lawsuits filed in the weeks following the 2020 election. These filings became public in January.
Joseph was involved in a lawsuit filed by former Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-Texas) against former Vice President Mike Pence. The lawsuit aimed to pressure Pence to use his power to alter the election outcome according to Donald Trump‘s wishes.
Lower courts rejected the lawsuit, and the Supreme Court ended the case in January 2021.

It’s just past 11 a.m. on Christmas Eve, and Angimar leans forward in a blue, perforated metal chair to examine her toddler’s diaper. The boy has been tugging at his legging pants, and his walk is now more of a waddle. Along with most personal-hygiene products, diapers are in short supply. Within a few seconds, 28-year-old Angimar, who goes by Angi, makes a quick calculation, the kind that mothers of young children make hundreds of times each day. It’s time, she decides, for a new one.

Orkin, a nationwide pest control company, has named Chicago number one in its annual list of Top 50 Rattiest Cities.
Los Angeles “earned” the number two spot while New York has been labeled the third-most rat-infested city.
The cities on this list are measured by the amount of new rodent services requested by customers.
This list also discloses how far the citizens and businesses of the major cities have gone in order to deal with these issues.
Metropolitan areas were ranked by the company based on how many rodent treatments were conducted from September 21, 2022, to August 31, 2023. The ranking consists of residential and commercial pest control treatments.
Orkin has chosen to celebrate Chicago’s number one status by releasing a free t-shirt available only for a limited time.

Through its first six seasons, identifying who voiced one of the many aliens, critters, or goobers on Rick and Morty was a pretty easy thing to do. That’s because, in addition to performing as the titular lead characters, co-creator Justin Roiland also embodied most of the show’s strange background players.
Following season 6, however, Roiland was fired from the series due to receiving domestic battery charges (later dropped) and multiple allegations of sexual assault. With Roiland gone, multiple actors have stepped in to fill the roles of Rick, Morty, and the whole other host of characters from the Adult Swim hit’s increasingly large constellation of galaxies, timelines, and multiverses. Even without the personnel change midway through, Rick and Morty‘s cast of voice actors was already pretty confusing beast to make sense of. So let’s try to do exactly that.

Lollapalooza 2023‘s opening day kicked off on Thursday in Chicago’s Grant Park, and it was a scorcher, thanks to artists bringing the heat and the sweltering humidity. The festival inked a 10-year contract with the city last year, and it came with the expansion in capacity, up from 100,000 people to 115,000.
The increase in numbers was apparent during Billie Eilish’s headlining appearance. “There isn’t any place where there aren’t people,” she said, surveying the sea of heads during her show. The festival also marked the first time...

“Morning time, I get on my knees, I pray to Allah/Forgive me for the shit that I did,” harmonizes Lil Durk on “Pelle Coat,” a track from his new album, Almost Healed. The 30-year-old Chicago rapper has steadily gathered momentum ever since he signed with Def Jam in 2013. He’s arguably the most commercially viable proponent of drill music, and that success allows him to float above the noise that roils heated discussions about the homegrown subgenre, even as he navigates the kind of industry bullshit — a long-running beef...

“Rick and Morty” truly hit its stride in Season 4 for showrunners Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon, which is ironic since Season 3’s ingeniously character-driven and hilarious “Pickle Rick” earned them their first Emmy. But this was the year the duo signed a 70-episode renewal deal with Adult Swim — and became much more efficient and collaborative. It all came together in their favorite episode of the season, “The Vat of Acid,” about a crucial confrontation between the eccentric scientist and his frustrated grandson, who finally achieves scientific satisfaction but with a sadistic twist.
“The thing that I find really interesting about this episode,” said Roiland, “is that it’s a character-driven, [with] Rick teaching Morty a lesson with his vast superiority and brilliance, and Morty not seeing where things are going, I love this abuse dynamic between Rick and Morty that’s just so fun to write.”

This story about Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland first appeared in the “Race Begins” issue of TheWrap’s Emmy magazine. It is one in a series of conversations about the effects of the coronavirus on the TV industry.
“Rick and Morty” fans were treated to some good news just as stay-at-home-orders began rolling out across the country: Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland’s beloved Adult Swim animated series would premiere the second half of its fourth season on May 3. While those episodes roll out, Harmon, Roiland and company are already working on Season 5, facing fewer — but different — obstacles than those of a live-action series.
TheWrap spoke with Harmon and Roiland last month, while they were still adjusting to a virtual writers’ room for their fifth season, about the Season 4 episode that has quickly become a fan favorite: “The Vat of Acid Episode.” In this installment, mad scientist Rick and his grandson,...

[Editor’s Note: The following review contains spoilers for “Rick and Morty” Season 4, Episode 1 Edge of Tomorty: Rick Die Rickpeat.”]
Years from now, when someone is catching up on “Rick and Morty” during an afternoon HBO Max binge, the Season 4 premiere will make for a curious stop. Much like the stealth Season 3 premiere, dropped on April Fool’s Day 2017 in an extreme case of committing to the bit, it’s hard to separate this episode from the context in which it arrives.
The last new “Rick and Morty” episode came 25 months ago, and it’s easy to see this return to the air as both a nod to fan favorite slices from years past and a reset of sorts, brought on by that time away. That hand-in-hand idea comes right at the top of “Edge of Tomorty: Rick Die Repeat,” as Rick proclaims he’s off to harvest death crystals from Forbojolon Prime, and Beth insists that Morty be...

We now have confirmation about exactly how “The Chi” will deal with the exit of the Showtime drama’s former star Jason Mitchell: they’re going to kill his character.
“There is a lot of great life in ‘The Chi’ and there’s also death in ‘The Chi’ and that’s how we’ll be dealing with it,” Showtime Networks co-president of entertainment Gary Levine told reporters during the Television Critics Association press tour on Friday.
When a reporter followed up with the question, “So he’ll be killed off?” — referring to Mitchell’s character, Brandon Johnson — Levine responded with a nod.
