Billed as a break-dance, hip-hop supernatural fantasy, the movie stars Jeroboam Bozeman as DeRay, a legendary rapper and convicted killer who falls through the sky to land outside the door of Naima (Mecca Verdell), a slam poetess who is the love of his life.

The lovers are both survivors of trauma and guilt, who channel their pain into their art against the backdrop of the war zone of the New York streets. They wrestle with their love in an emotional and psychological space that is out of place and out of time.

Exclusive: Greenwich Entertainment is going big on Loudmouth. The company has acquired North American rights to the documentary about the Rev. Al Sharpton, and plans a December 9 theatrical release for the film just as Oscar shortlist voting rolls around.

The film directed by Josh Alexander held its world premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival in June, examining an activist, commentator and occasional political candidate who has been a major part of American life for almost 40 years.

Tom Quinn, co-founder of Neon, told Variety that Jonas Poher Rasmussen’s story of a gay refugee who fled to safety in Denmark from his home in Afghanistan as a child, will be submitted for Oscar best picture consideration in addition to the documentary, animation and foreign language categories. “Flee” was picked up by Neon and Participant after premiering in January at Sundance, where it won the Grand Jury Prize.

The Woodstock Film Festival will resume indoor screenings at its 22nd annual edition this fall, and also will recognize Neon founder and CEO Tom Quinn with a career honor.

This year’s festival will run from September 30 to October 3. It has carved out a notable place in the fall fest circuit because of its location, which is 110 miles north of New York City and also close to a number of film industry figures in the Hudson Valley. The surrounding region has also become more active in terms of film and TV production in recent years, adding multiple new soundstages.

Quinn will receive the festival’s 2021 Honorary Trailblazer Award. Known for making character-driven projects that touch on taboo subjects under their Yulari Films banner, Barash and Shatz created, produced and directed the Netflix docuseries “Lenox Hill,” which takes an intimate look at the lives of four doctors working at the renowned New York City hospital.

Writer-director Deon Taylor will direct the upcoming film “Freedom Ride,” based on first-person accounts of the original freedom riders, including the late Congressman John Lewis.

Taylor and his Hidden Empire Film Group partner Robert F. Smith will executive produce the project, joining a producing team that includes civil rights attorney Benjamin Crump and his company, Brooklyn Media, as well as The Hideaway Entertainment and Inde Companies.

Crump is the noted civil rights attorney who represents the family of the late George Floyd and repped the family of Trayvon Martin. In his new film “Cherry,” Tom Holland has gone from Spider-Man to finally breaking bad, showing a tougher, darker side than the perky chatterbox that is Peter Parker.

The first trailer for “Cherry” — which reunites Holland with “Avengers” directors the Russo Brothers — shows him robbing banks, but doing so calmly and even politely.

“I’m 23 years old, and sometimes I wonder if life is wasted on me,” Holland says in the trailer. “My greatest accomplishment is not dying.”

“Cherry” is based on Nico Walker’s 2018 novel of the same name. The story follows a young man from Ohio who drops out of college to serve in Iraq as an Army medic, only to return home with a serious case of Ptsd that spirals into drug addiction. Surrounded by other depraved misfits and draining his finances, he turns to robbing banks in order to fuel his bad habits, slowly alienating his true love along the way.

Cherry, the much-awaited film from directors Joe and Anthony Russo has been acquired by Apple Original Films.

The movie, starring Spider-Man Homecoming actor Homecoming Tom Holland and Red Band Society's Ciara Bravo, is the first film directed by the Russo brothers since their all-time record grossing Avengers: Endgame which released in 2019.

Apple purchased the film from the Russos brother's production company in a deal reportedly worth more than $40 million. None of them have publicly confirmed the figure so far.

Apple has picked up worldwide rights to Russo brothers’ awards contender Cherry starring Tom Holland and Ciara Bravo in a deal reported to be in the high $40m range.

The film will get an Oscar-qualifying launch in early 2021 on Apple TV+ and is based on Nico Walker’s novel about a former Army medic and Iraq veteran with undiagnosed Ptsd who gets addicted to opiods and starts robbing banks.

Cherry marks the first directorial outing from Agbo chairmen Anthony and Joe Russo since their four films for Marvel Studios.
