Nepotism has become a great topic of discussion lately, and people are pointing out the privilege “Nepo Babies” have in Hollywood, thanks to their famous family members. While some acknowledge getting a head start in the game, others are oblivious to the fact that their last names hold some power over the other. Steven Spielberg’s daughter may fall into the latter category.
Steven Spielberg’s second marriage to Kate Capshaw resulted in the birth of his three children, as well as the adoption of twins. Destry Allyn Spielberg is the couple’s third-born child and is now working as a director and actress. Being born to two Hollywood superstars sure comes with its own set of privileges, but Destry knows she has worked hard to be where she is right now.

Onscreen, Shia Labeouf might as well be accepted by the majority to be one of the finest actors to have come out of Hollywood’s entertainment industry, going to whatever extremes required just to get his performances right. But his behind-the-scenes life hasn’t been all that easy, and he credits stars like Mel Gibson and Josh Brolin for lending him support through the same.
As is widely known, like many others, Labeouf also struggled with substance abuse issues, specifically alcohol, and has pretty much battled back from the brink to restore his career as a movie star. And the ones helping him beat the booze and keeping him alive and away from giving up seem to be none other than Gibson, Brolin, and Sean Penn, as he himself admitted.

Actress Gwyneth Paltrow has not taken too kindly to the “nepo kid” tag and has bashed people for giving her this moniker, saying there is nothing wrong in someone following in their parent’s footsteps. The ‘Iron Man’ actress had entered the nepo-kid debate in a light-hearted way back in January, but this time she has made far more cutting comments and has entered the debate with more force.
Gwyneth, who is the daughter of actor Blythe Danner and director/producer Bruce Paltrow, as well as an Oscar winner herselfcalled the tag, an “ugly moniker.”

Gwyneth Paltrow is opening up about her feelings around the “nepo baby” term, which is used for those kids of famous parents. Paltrow is the daughter of actress Blythe Danner and director Bruce Paltrow and says that label is an “ugly moniker.”
In an interview with Bustle, the idea of helping her daughter Apple, whom she shares with Coldplay frontman Chris Martin, came up but Paltrow says “She’s a very private person.”
“Now there’s this whole nepo baby culture, and judgment that exists around kids of famous people,” Paltrow said during the interview. “She’s really just a student, and she’s been very… She just wants to be a kid and be at school and learn. But there’s nothing wrong with doing or wanting to do what your parents do.”
She continued, “Nobody rips on a kid who’s like ‘I want to be a doctor like my dad and granddad.

Well, here’s a more somber crime thriller to quiet things down in the multiplexes as the Summer movie season of noisy blockbusters wraps up with the Labor Day weekend. Its setting is only a few years back, but most of its themes are fairly timeless as we bear witness to another young person (actually several) from the mean streets of the East Coast who is swallowed up by the drug trade. Oh, but there’s one sole (really aided by a couple more) who won’t allow him to be another statistic, another outline on the filthy sidewalk. Now she’s not your typical crusading heroine, as she’s dealing with her own flaws and weaknesses. Still, this struggling newspaper reporter earns the right to be called The Good Mother.
It opens on the dark early morning streets of Albany, NY in 2016 as a man in his twenties dashes from corner to corner,...

Director and co-writer Miles Joris-Peyrafitte's The Good Mother adds to the burgeoning subgenre of thrillers set against the backdrop of the opioid crisis. Unlike recent TV series like Netflix's Painkiller and Hulu's Dopesick, The Good Mother doesn't take a wide view of the crisis. There are no scenes set at pharmaceutical companies or in their boardrooms. Instead, the occasional flashes of social commentary are secondary to the central narrative about a grieving woman determined to achieve justice for her murdered son. As such, the well-produced The Good Mother is often awkwardly positioned between character-driven drama and crime thriller. It boasts a strong execution of both genres that ultimately can't quite fit together to elevate itself.

"You followed him? He could've killed you!" Vertical has revealed an official trailer for a dark crime thriller titled The Good Mother, from director Miles Joris-Peyrafitte. Despite the two big names leading this cast, it's doesn't seem to be getting the most hyped up release next month. The film follows a journalist who, after the murder of her estranged son, forms an unlikely alliance with his pregnant girlfriend to track down those responsible for his death. Together, they confront a world of drugs and corruption in the seedy underbelly of a small city in upstate New York. Hilary Swank stars as Marissa, the vengeful journalist, with Olivia Cooke as Paige, plus Dilone, Hopper Penn, Norm Lewis, Karen Aldridge, and Jack Reynor. This reminds me of McDonagh's Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, about a mom turning vicious to get revenge on whoever killed her child. Looks extra dark. "Don't I get...

Please Don’t Feed The Children: Destry Allyn Spielberg directing horror film, Michelle Dockery stars
Three months ago, it was announced that Destry Allyn Spielberg – a daughter of Steven Spielberg and Kate Capshaw – would be making her feature directorial debut with an action film called Four Assassins (and a Funeral), which was described as being like “The Kingsman meets Knives Out meets Succession“. But Four Assassins (and a Funeral) wasn’t quite ready to go into production yet, so another project has leap-frogged that one to become Spielberg’s first feature. The “elevated genre film” Please Don’t Feed the Children is now set to start filming in New Mexico next month, with Spielberg at the helm and Michelle Dockery (Downton Abbey) in the lead.
Spielberg is expected to circle back to Four Assassins (and a Funeral) after Please Don’t Feed the Children is finished.

Hopper Penn, the son of actors Sean Penn and Robin Wright, is weighing in on the nepo baby discourse to say that he isn’t one, and that he doesn’t care if people think he is.
“I don’t give a s— about that, because I’m not one,” Penn told Yahoo! Entertainment when asked if he was concerned with being labeled as a “nepo baby,” a term implying that some children of celebrities are only successful because of their famous parent’s nepotism.
Penn, who stars in “Devil’s Peak” alongside his mother, recalled discussing the topic while on set for “Let Me Go the Right Way,” a 2022 short film that critics tagged as a “nepotism film” due to its involvement with director Destry Allyn Spielberg, the daughter of Steven Spielberg, and writer Owen King, the son of Stephen King.

Hopper Penn is an actor with famous parents but says he’s not a “nepo baby” and he doesn’t care what people think of him.
The son of actor Sean Penn and House of Cards star Robin Wright is rejecting any notion that he is a “nepo baby,” the kids of famous parents. Penn stars in Devil’s Peak with his mother and during a recent interview opened up about what he thinks of the infamous label.
“I don’t give a s*** about that, because I’m not one,” Penn told Yahoo! Entertainment.
Penn recalled the time he worked on Let Me Go the Right Away, a film directed by Steven Spielberg’s daughter Destry and written by Stephen King’s son Owen.
“It came up when we were shooting,” Penn said. “Destry had shown me an article calling it a ‘nepotism film’ and I just laughed about it.

Devil’s Peak follows the story of Jacob McNeely (Hopper Penn) as he struggles under his father’s (Billy Bob Thornton) control as a meth-dealing kingpin in the Appalachian mountains, especially when he meets a girl (Katelyn Nacon) and wants to run away with her. Penn’s mother, Robin Wright, plays Jacob’s meth-addicted mother in the movie.
In an exclusive interview with uInterview founder Erik Meers, Penn revealed how he connected to the main characters of the story with his own past of drug addiction.
“I’ve had a lot of bad history with addiction and stuff like that so we [director Ben Young] talked a lot about how you can bring that kind of darkness of your past into this story,” Penn said. “I think that was also a new thing I brought like to acting where even if I wasn’t his character, I’ve grown up in a completely different way,...

The dynamics between fathers and sons, and whether the younger generation can ever escape the family legacy, is at the heart of “Devil’s Peak.” It’s apt then that director Ben Young cast Hopper Penn — son of Sean — as his lead. In this adaptation of David Joy’s novel “Where All Light Tends to Go,” the father, Charlie (Billy Bob Thornton), is a drug lord in North Carolina’s Appalachian Mountains, with a firm grip on his son’s life and livelihood. Jacob (Penn) works as a runner for his dad, while the latter withholds his wages, thus totally controlling his son. Young and screenwriter Robert Knott build on these intriguing family dynamics to create an entertaining drama that’s unfortunately let down by its lead performance.
The conflict between father and son takes hold when Jacob falls for a local woman (Katelyn Nacon) at the same time that Charlie...

Billy Bob Thornton in Devil’s Peak Photo: Screen Media Films The right cast can make a plodding film watchable, an Ok film good, and a good film great. Equally inspired by the New Hollywood genre films of the 1970s and the bootstraps indie cinema of the 1990s, Oldenburg has carved out a niche unlike any of the major international festivals. Instead of playing the same fall festival hits as Cannes, Venice and Toronto, Oldenburg continues to spotlight overlooked or forgotten movies that don’t fit the industry’s familiar categories.

George R.R. Martin has set his next project for screen, the short film Night of Cooters, based on Howard Waldrop 1987 sci-fi novel. Vincent D’Onofrio will direct and is set to star as Sheriff Lindley. Trioscope Studios will animate the film.

Joe Landsdale pens the screenplay. The series will also feature Hopper Penn as Sweets, Harrison Page as Luther, Martin Sensmeier as Leo Smith, Cristin McCleary as Atkins,...
