2025 is halfway over, and at this point, I am realizing that most of the movies I was excited about this year have been a disappointment, but that doesn’t mean that there were no good movies released this as there have been some extremely entertaining ones. Secrets, lies, and a killer wardrobe — again. I actually hadn’t seen the original “A Simple Favor” until a few weeks ago when my wife and I watched it together, and honestly, I loved it. It’s sharp, stylish, and way more fun than I expected. So now that “Another Simple Favor” is on the way, I totally get why they made a sequel — though from a story perspective, I’m really curious to see how they pull it off. Review: A Simple Favor was a surprisingly effective potboiler, anchored by two ace performances from Anna Kendrick and Blake Lively. Plus, it had snappy direction from Paul Feig and a tight script that somehow managed to take some vast cliches and make them feel fresh. As such, the only thing surprising about a sequel being made is that Amazon’s opting to premiere this on streaming, despite Lively’s last movie making $300 million worldwide – controversy be damned.

While not as inspired as the original and more of a retread than expected, the gorgeous scenery (well-photographed by John Schwartzman) and an especially good turn by Lively make it worthwhile. Emily Nelson is surely the best role of her career,...

Ben Affleck and Jon Bernthal reunited for the buddy action film The Accountant 2, nine years after the release of the first installment. Although other cast members reprised their roles in the sequel, Anna Kendrick didn't return.

In the 2016 action film, Kendrick played Dana Cummings, an accountant working with Affleck's Christian Wolff. However, she was not back in the sequel, despite playing Christian's love interest. During an interview with The New York Times, franchise director Gavin O'Connor teased that the team is already thinking of The Accountant 3 and that Kendrick would be up to return.
