The Game says he's about to put out music to make his rivals pump their brakes. He has a new mixtape, hosted by DJ Skee and produced entirely by Cool & Dre, ready to drop at the beginning of August called Brake Lights.
"We did this Drake record called 'Good Girl, Bad Girl' in L.A. during the Bet [Awards] for The R.E.D. Album," Dre of Cool & Dre told us earlier this week of how the mixtape was conceived. "That record feels like an authentic Game record, something off The Documentary. It has that soul music. Him and Drake made a classic record. It feels like something the DJs would drop the needle on.

Rick Ross is having a pretty excellent year. His 2009 album Deeper Than Rap was a woefully underrated collection of jams that combined Ross' hardcore persona with his blooming pop sensibilities ("Maybach Music 2," "Usual Suspects," "Yacht Club" and "Bossy Lady" were some of the strongest tracks in all of hip-hop last year). His beloved Miami Heat just scored one of the biggest coups in the history of professional sports, retaining superstar Dwayne Wade and acquiring the services of LeBron James and Chris Bosh. After months of preparation, speculation and predictions, the decision finally came down on Thursday night. LeBron James, perhaps the most coveted free agent in the history of the NBA (and maybe in all of professional sports), announced live on Espn that he will be playing basketball alongside Dwayne Wade, Chris Bosh and the rest of the players of the Miami Heat. Though the details of his contract have not yet been disclosed (the same goes for the new deals for Wade and Bosh), it's certainly going to be lucrative, not only for LeBron but also for the Heat (who have now elevated themselves to one of the four or five teams in the NBA's most elite echelon) and the city of Miami.

Who is the greatest basketball player of all time? Is it Michael Jordan? Kobe Bryant? ... Or is it LeBron James? For the past year, basketball fans have been engaged in wondering where LeBron James would end up. Today is the day. LeBron James, the most coveted free agent in the history of the NBA, will announce where he will be playing basketball for the next few years during a special show tonight at 9 p.m. on Espn. Obviously the sports world is waiting with bated breath for James to make his intentions known, but the entertainment universe is also tuning in. Considering what a huge cross-cultural star King James has been, his new home will most certainly have an effect on the local music and culture scenes, which is why so many hip-hop personalities have gotten involved (including Fat Joe, Diddy and friend and partial New Jersey Nets owner Jay-z).

The past week has been truly intense for fans of the NBA, as the free agency market has been the most intense it has ever been. A number of top-tier players are in search of new contracts (and in many cases, new surroundings), which means that the entire league could be completely re-arranged for the next decade (and beyond). So far, the New York Knicks have invested in Amar'e Stoudemire, Dirk Nowitzki has re-signed with the Dallas Mavericks, Joe Johnson is staying with the Atlanta Hawks and Drew Gooden will be looking for real estate in Milwaukee, because he's now a Buck.
Today brought two new huge headlines. The Chicago Bulls have signed a deal with Carlos Boozer and the Miami Heat announced that they have reached agreements with both Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh. That sets up Thursday night's big announcement, which will see LeBron James tell the world...

Everyone wants to know where NBA free agents Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh will sign this offseason -- and while money, ownership, teammates, location and LeBron will all play a factor, don't forget about the secret ingredient ... food. We caught up with Wade and Bosh outside Table Fifty-Two in Chicago, after the pair met with Bulls management. When we asked Wade which city had the best food between New York, Miami and Chicago -- the...

Not only is today Canada Day, but it also represents the first day of the free agency period in the NBA. Under normal circumstances, that's not such a big deal, as it just means that dudes who were already rich are going to get more money for wearing a different shirt in a different city. But this year is different because the crop of available free agents is the greatest it has ever been, and the contract decisions made over the next month could drastically change the face of the NBA for the next decade. The crop of players seeking new contracts includes LeBron James, Dwayne Wade, Chris Bosh, Dirk Nowitzki, Joe Johnson, Amare Stoudemire and Paul Pierce. Even the second-tier players available (dudes like David Lee, Carlos Boozer, Richard Jefferson, Rudy Gay and Ray Allen) could change the complexion of a team on the brink or a squad looking to rebuild.

Right now is a great time to be a basketball fan. NBA enthusiasts are in the middle of what is certainly one of the game's golden ages, full of talented, charismatic superstars and dynamic, history-making teams. LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, Carmelo Anthony, Dwight Howard, Chris Bosh, Dwayne Wade and Steve Nash are all among the greatest players of all time, and they're all playing right now.
They're contributing to the game's evolution and destroying records along the way, but there is one particular feat that seems untouchable. On this day in 1962, Wilt "The Stilt" Chamberlain scored 100 points by himself as his Philadelphia Warriors beat the New York Knicks 169-147 in Hershey, Pennsylvania. It was a pretty absurd game for Chamberlain, who put up 63 shots (sinking 36 of them) and took another 32 free throws (making 28). Wilt was a dominant player, but as you can see by the score of the game (which was a regulation game — 48 minutes,...

Tomorrow, for the second year in a row, Phoenix Suns point guard Steve Nash and former Red Bulls midfielder Claudio Reyna will be corralling famous friends from each of their respective sports for an eight-on-eight charity soccer match on a small turf field in Manhattan’s Chinatown. Last year, it was a mob scene, with what seemed to be every soccer fan in New York (and more than a few hoops enthusiasts) scrambling up the chicken wire to get a better view of their heroes showboating like they were in a Nike commercial. This year’s game starts tomorrow at 6:00 p.m. at Sarah Roosevelt Park on Chrystie Street. Get there early. There will be an afterparty at Hudson Terrace starting at 9:00 p.m., sponsored by Grey Goose. (A limited number of tickets available at stevenash.org.) As Nash tells us below, the teams haven’t picked yet,...
