With its new season, “Robot Chicken” will be hitting two very special milestones — a 10th season and a 200th episode — but the team behind the Adult Swim show are not focused on such industry markers.

“Whenever I see the anniversary episode of a sitcom or anything, the time they take to celebrate the anniversary is not as funny or entertaining as if they just made an episode. So I saw it more of a burden, in a way: How do we make this as entertaining as it should be?” co-head writer and executive producer Doug Goldstein tells Variety.

The answer for those who break the pop culture inspired sketches was to “do what we usually do,” according to writer Mike Fasolo. Seth Green and several other “Robot Chicken” writers and producers have sold an adult animated comedy pilot to Hulu, Variety has learned exclusively.

The series is titled “Crossing Swords.” When Patrick, a goodhearted young peasant with dreams of earning his knighthood and dispensing justice to evildoers, lands a coveted squire position at the royal castle, his dream job quickly turns into a nightmare. In this kingdom, corruption starts at the top, and staying true to his lofty goals will be a thornier proposition than Patrick anticipated. It’s all the sex, violence and full-frontal nudity you’d expect from a “premium fantasy soap starring pre-school toys.”

John Havartine and Tom Root will write and executive produce. Havartine joined “Robot Chicken” as an executive producer in 2012 during the show’s sixth season, while Root is the show’s head writer and executive producer. Green will also executive produce along with Matt Senreich and Eric Towner.

Robot Chicken exists in a very unique world, and the release of the seventh season on DVD hasn’t really changed anything.

The show is a wild and random mix of short vignettes that, in one way or another, take shots at pop culture and/or simply culture, with a definite air toward not just politically incorrect viewpoints, but several steps beyond the merely politically incorrect.

As time has gone on, the show created by Seth Green, Matthew Senreich, and Mike Fasolo, has clearly developed a distinct voice, but it has undergone changes as well. Certain sketches during the seventh season showcase a bit more style, and a more mature sense of how to get the comedy to deliver. If you want a show that takes hilarious jabs at pop culture using cuts from one scene to the next, the best option on television isn’t Family Guy but rather Robot Chicken, the stop-motion brainchild of Seth Green, Mike Fasolo, and Matthew Senreich. The series has managed to remain devastatingly funny even as the novelty of its use of action figures and various objects of nostalgia has worn off. Not many comedy series manage to outlive their novelty factor, but Robot Chicken does it, and in a way that’s as morbidly hilarious as the first season was (which is what made it so great). At this rate, Robot Chicken deserves to cluck on forever, or as long as the guys behind it are willing to do the painstaking stop-motion work combined with clever comic premises.

Pixar / Disney Boycotted the awards because they feel that the International Animated Film Society voters favor DreamWorks even though Up won the Best Animated Feature award last year. As much as I love Pixar animation, just because they don't win an award doesn't mean it's the end of the world, and I don't see why they feel they need to boycott. The Vince Lombardi Trophy wasn't the only piece of hardware handed out this weekend. The 38th annual Annie Awards took place as well with the DreamWorks film How to Train Your Dragon sweeping many of the regular awards (which was to be expected with Disney/Pixar boycotting the awards [1] because of judging procedures they feel favor DreamWorks.) The highlight of the night, however, was when director Brad Bird was awarded one of three Windsor McCay Awards for career achievement (The others went to Eric Goldberg and Matt Groening). Bird couldn't be there to accept in person so he video taped an acceptance speech from the Vancouver set of Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol. Most of the video package highlighted Bird's incredibly varied history in animation (including The Simpsons, The Iron Giant, The Incredibles, Ratatouille and more) but then things take a turn for the worse. The Annie Awards, Animation's Highest Honor, went all the way for DreamWorks Animation's "How to Train Your Dragon!" The fun, animated film, originally received 15 nominations and won 10 trophies including Best Animated Feature.

Given by the International Animated Film Society, the 38th annual Annie Awards was not without controversy. Apparently, Disney and Pixar announced they would no longer participate in the annual awards because of their concerns over how the event is judged.

The studios claimed the Annie Awards have always been slighted towards DreamWorks Animation. And this year, both DreamWorks film ("How to Train Your Dragon") and TV ("Kung Fu Panda Holiday") topped the Annie Awards.

This past fall, a lanky, 6'4", redheaded, Irish Catholic from Massachusetts named Conan made waves on the web with live broadcasts of variety programs meant to preview his imminent television premiere. Next summer, an inconceivably muscular, towering, long-haired, Cimmerian, also named Conan will star in a web series conceived to promote his rebooted film franchise. Age of Conan: Hyboria! is a collaboration between Paradox Entertainment (the company that holds the trademark to all things Conan the Barbarian), Funcom (the video game publisher responsible for creating the Mmorpg Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures), and a handful of comedy writers hailing from Cartoon Network's Robot Chicken. With awards season is underway comes the 38th Annual Annie Award nominations, which recognize the year’s best work in animation. Since the creation of the animation-specific Oscar category in 2001, the Annies have predicted the Academy Award winner every year except 2006 and 2008.

Unfortunately, the award has been tainted by controversy after CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg reportedly bought each DreamWorks Animation employee a membership in the International Animated Film Society, Asifa-Hollywood, skewing the voting in the studio’s favor. This likely resulted in a surprise sweep by DreamWorks Animations’ Kung Fu Panda at the Annies in 2008-2009 over Pixar’s eventual Oscar winner, Wall-e.

Disney Studios has since pulled its official support of the event and submissions for the awards, though individual animators are able to submit their films themselves. As a result, the rules were changed for individual achievement categories, but Disney sought a neutral committee of animators from every studio to propose and approve guidelines.

The International Animated Film Society, Asifa-Hollywood, announced nominations today for the 38th Annual Annie Awards™ recognizing the year’s best in the field of animation including best animated feature, television production, commercials, short subjects, video games and outstanding individual achievements.

Two years ago, Kung-Fu Panda swept the awards over Wall-e pushing Disney and Pixar to withdraw from the organization and making everyone else wonder if there is any point in caring anymore about the ceremony. Toy Story 3 and Tangled did get Best Picture nominations, but DreamWorks (who pretty much run the show) lead the nominees.

According to /film, Disney’s reason for withdrawing was rooted in the organization’s very loose membership requirements and the fact that DreamWorks seemed actively working to stack the deck in the studio’s favour. Disney-Pixar president Ed Catmull said earlier this year,

The full list of nominations for the 38th Annie Awards were announced today with Dreamworks’s How to Train your Dragon gathering up the majority of nominations including Best Feature, Animation, Character Design and Voice Work for Gerard Butler and Jay Baruchel, as well as Directing nominations for Chris Sanders and Dean DeBlois.

Pixar’s Up took home the Best Animated Feature earlier this year at the 2009 awards and when the awards are announced next February Lee Unkrich and his team are up from a number of awards, along with Disney’s Tangled, but the recent decision of Disney to withdraw support for the awards may go some way to explaining the relatively few number of nods.

It has been a great year for animation as the films on the list below attest, and it’s nice to see Sylvain Chomet’s enchanting film The Illusionist scoring a point against the domination of CG here.

The Annie Awards will be a battleground for the upcoming Oscar animation awards. This year, only three animated films will be nominated. Why? Because the rules that govern the Oscars are laughably outmoded. But that’s beside the point.

Fact is, the Annie Awards deserve attention amongst the many other awards shows because so many great animated films were released in 2010, arguably more than traditional films. “Tangled,” “Toy Story 3,” “How to Train Your Dragon,” “Despicable Me” and “The Illusionist” will jostle for the Best Animated Feature award.

The International Animated Film Society Asifa-Hollywood has announced the nominees for the 38th Annual Annie Awards, and the DreamWorks feature How to Train Your Dragon leads the pack with more than ten nods. But there's a caveat; that and the full list of nominations after the break. This will be the first Annie Awards after Disney and Pixar withdrew from the organization [1] that organizes the awards. Toy Story 3 and Tangled did get Best Picture nominations, and Lee Unkrich was nominated Best Director. But in the feature deaprtment this is DreamWorks' show, with a few nods toward the Warner Bros. film Legend of the Guardians and a scant few other features such as The Illusionist. Disney's reason for withdrawing was rooted in the organization's very loose membership requirements (read: almost non-existent requirements, until recently) and the fact that DreamWorks seemed actively working to stack the deck in the studio's favor.

How To Train Your Dragon has dominated the nominations for the Annie Awards awarded by the International Animation Society.

It will compete for the top category against The Illusionist, Despicable Me, Tangled and Toy Story 3. It is surprising that Tangled and Toy Story were nominated since they withdrew from the International Animation Society.

Seth Green and Matthew Senreich’s “Robot Chicken” is prepping for their third installment of their “Star Wars” specials with the casting of Zac Efron as Anakin and Anthony Daniels as C3PO. Robot Chicken: Star Wars Episode III comes December 12th In a story from The Hollywood Reporter, Adult Swim's Robot Chicken is preparing a third Star Wars spoof. In this new installment C3PO voice talent Anthony Daniels has joined the cast, as has Zac Efron.

Robot Chicken: Star Wars Episode III will lampoon George Lucas' iconic universe.

"We're telling more of a linear story this time that covers the series from start to finish," said Chicken co-creator Seth Green.

In addition to Daniels and Zac Efron, Donald Glover (Community) and Mike Henry (The Cleveland Show) will also make their first Robot Chicken appearances. Billy Dee Williams (Lando Calrissian) and Ahmed Best (Jar Jar Binks) will also come back from previous specials.

With Robot Chicken being its highest rated show, it should really come as no shock that [adult swim] has ordered more episodes of the hit animated program, but the size of the renewal might surprise you.

[adult swim] has handed the insanely fast and often just as funny stop-motion animation show from creators Seth Green and Matthew Senreich an order of 40 more episodes, meaning it will be on the air for at least a fifth and sixth season. Though the show can often make you feel like you have adult Add much of the time and would probably go down best while stoned (I can’t attest to that, at least lately), it still hits its many targets much more often than it misses.

A long time ago (actually 2007) in a galaxy far, far away (actually on Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim), Robot Chicken aired a Star Wars-themed episode. It was a success and subsequently released on DVD, and so the show’s creators Mike Fasolo, Seth Green and Matthew Senreich came up with a follow-up broadcast last November. That original broadcast version is now out on Turner’s Robot Chicken: Star Wars: Episode II DVD, which also includes a Special Extended Edition that runs 38 minutes (15 minutes longer). I missed the original broadcast, but I’m a Robot Chicken fan, a Star Wars nut and enjoyed the first Robot Chicken: Star Wars, so naturally I couldn’t wait to check out the sequel.

Kung Fu Panda shut out its competition in every major feature film category at the 36th annual Annie Awards celebrating 2008’s best animated movies. The DreamWorks Animation pic bested critic favorite Wall-e and other nominee Bolt for “Best Feature.”

The surprise win is the first time DreamWorks has beaten a Pixar film for the top prize since 2001’s Shrek over Pixar’s Monster’s Inc. Panda took home fifteen statues Friday night and tied for the most wins ever. The Annie Award has matched the “Best Animated Feature” category at the Academy Awards every single year but one.

I thoroughly enjoyed Kfp, but I was under the impression that Wall-e was a better film all around. While DreamWorks Animation has stepped up its game in recent years, Pixar’s animation was exceptional. This is a major upset, especially since Wall-e went home with nothing. The Oscar race just got even more interesting.

The Academy Awards are slowly creeping up, just three months away now with buzz seeming to only surround a handful of movies. But one piece of the puzzle and a solid indicator of the “Best Animated Feature” Oscar are the Annie Awards, now in their 36th year.

DreamWorks Animation’s Kung Fu Panda earned 16 total nominations, a tie for the most in the history of the ceremonies. The other movies to pull that off were 2004’s The Incredibles and 2005’s Wallace and Gromit: Curse of the Were-Rabbit.

Since the Annies started, the Annie Award for “Best Animated Feature” has predicted the Oscar winner every single time but once.

DreamWorks Animation's "Kung Fu Panda" fought off stiff competition to earn 16 nominations -- the most for a feature -- for the International Animated Film Society's 36th Annual Annie Awards.

That includes a nomination for best-animated feature, a category that includes Pixar Animation Studios "Wall-e"-considered the frontrunner for the Oscar-which earned seven nominations. "Panda" and "Wall-e" also earned one additional nomination each in the best video game competition.

The top category is rounded out by nominations for Walt Disney Animation Studios' "Bolt," a 3-D release that earned five nominations; Sony Pictures Classics' "Waltz With Bashir," Israel's award-winning documentary, which took four nominations; and Sherman Pictures/Lama Films "$9.99," a stop-motion title that earned two nominations.

Blue Sky Studios' "Dr. Suess' Horton Hear as Who," a Fox release, also had a strong showing with five nominations.

All of these features are short listed by AMPAS for this season's animated feature competition.
