A new episode of our What Happened to This Horror Movie? video series has just been released, and with this one we’re looking into the 2007 true crime mystery thriller Zodiac (watch it Here). Check out the video embedded above to hear all about it!

Directed by David Fincher from a screenplay by James Vanderbilt and based on the books Zodiac and Zodiac Unmasked by Robert Graysmith, the film has the following synopsis: In the late 1960s and 1970s, fear grips the city of San Francisco as a serial killer called Zodiac stalks its residents. Investigators and reporters become obsessed with learning the killer’s identity and bringing him to justice. Meanwhile, Zodiac claims victim after victim and taunts the authorities with cryptic messages, cyphers and menacing phone calls.

Nick Palumbo’s sadistic slasher Murder-Set-Pieces created a lot of controversy when it was released in 2004 with a Nc-17 rating. Some considered the movie too gory and sexually violent and it was banned outright in the UK. We haven’t heard much from Palumbo since then, but Deadline reports that he is planning his return with two movies, “psychological horror” film Muse and “indie neo-noir thriller” Last Gas Station.

“ ... Muse introduces newcomer Samantha Mion as an actress descending into homicidal madness in Los Angeles. Patrick Scott Lewis (Zodiac) co-stars as a fellow actor. Palumbo wrote and will direct the pic, producing with David Palumbo and James Cullen Bressack (Hate Crime) for the trio’s Fright Flix banner,” Deadline said.

Palumbo is reportedly planning to cut Muse for an R rating, but knowing the director’s background and style there’s no doubt the movie will be heavy on the blood-soaked scenes.

Deadline reports that Murder-Set-Pieces director Nick Palumbo is coming back strong with two projects underway after releasing nothing in almost ten years.

First up is his upcoming film Muse, which Deadline describes as a “Psychological horror” film. It introduces actress Samantha Mion as “an actress descending into homicidal madness in Los Angeles”. It co-stars Patrick Scott Lewis (Zodiac), who also plays a fellow actor. His cult horror flick Murder-Set-Pieces took place in Las Vegas, looks like he’s expanding his brand of horror to the West Coast.

The other project that he has underway is The Last Gas Station, which is described as a “neo-noir thriller”. Palumbo wrote both films and is expected to direct them both as well.

Check out the “Rated-r” trailer for Murder-Set-Pieces…It makes American Psycho (2000) look pretty childish.

Supermax

Paramount Pictures and Disruption Entertainment have picked up Marc Haimes' script pitch "Supermax".

The story is described as a high-concept, found-footage project. Despite having the same name, this is Not the Green Arrow in prison project that was in development a few years ago. [Source: THR]

Nearly a decade since his "Murder-Set-Pieces" came out to controversy and some bans, filmmaker Nick Palumbo is returning with the psychological horror thriller "Muse".

The Infinity Principle

Summit Entertainment and producer Basil Iwanyk have picked up Arash Amel's sci-fi script pitch "The Infinity Principle".

The story follows a physicist who discovers the secret of time travel, in the process tearing apart the fabric of the universe.

Bear

An idyllic trip into bear country turns into a nightmare when the mini-van carrying two brothers and their partners suddenly blows a tire on a mountain road and rouses the attentions of one of the inhabiting Grizzly population. Defiantly one of the brothers, Wall Street hot-shot Sam, pulls out a gun and kills the curious creature – Big mistake! As the group head on into the woods, the bear’s mate, a ferocious eight-foot-tall Grizzly, arrives on the scene and attacks. As they battle against the surprisingly cunning and intelligent beast, secrets between the brothers and their own mates begin to emerge. Trapped inside their van, fighting for their lives, the group must use their wits and every last drop of survival instinct they have to survive...

At first glance, Bear seems to be a satire of the animal attacks style of film e.g. Cujo, The Birds; yet, in fact, upon closer analysis Bear is a straight-laced thriller that pits man against one of the largest beasts imaginable. The film will be release through the Epic Pictures Group once distibution for North America is confirmed. For now, the film is only secured in the Netherlands region for a June 1st release (IMDb). However, fans can enjoy a large Grizzly on the attack, as several twenty-somethings do their best not to be a tasty bear treat (Trailer). A trailer is inside with a synopsis below.

A plot summary of Bear here:

"Two couples, trapped in a mini-van, must use their wits and courage to fend off a vicious assault from a Grizzly Bear and survive. As they battle the cunning and intelligent creature, secrets between them begin to emerge.

There has been a brief uptick in killer bear flicks the last two years, and not all for the best. Now comes a new one simply titled Bear that, judging by its trailer, takes the T-Rex/jeep scene from Jurassic Park, ages the occupants in peril about 15 years, replaces the T-Rex with a very angry grizzly with vengeance on its mind, and builds an entire movie around it.

"Two young couples are driving through a remote forest when their car breaks down. When a run-in with a curious grizzly bear ends up with the bear being shot to death, the bear's mate arrives on the scene and vengefully attacks their van. The couples are trapped inside the disabled car and must come up with clever ways to survive. As they battle the surprisingly intelligent creature and contemplate their uncertain fate, secrets begin to emerge that threaten to tear the group apart before the bear does.
