The Summer Hikaru Died’s Anime Adaptation Could Be Netflix’s Only Chance to Escape the Horror Adaptation Curse
Image
The anime community is well aware of the recurring pattern of poor anime adaptations of horror manga, particularly if it’s Netflix exclusive. Be it the work of a famous author like Junji Ito or others — anime fans don’t really hold high expectations when it comes to good horror anime adaptations at this point. Thus, the announcement of the recent Netflix exclusive adaptation of The Summer Hikaru Died has made the fans optimistic yet concerned at the same time.

Image
In the Netflix series Master of the House, there’s one character I couldn’t stand the most—Mavin, Roongroj Thevasatitpaisarn’s younger son. His hatred for his father, brother, and servants led to his ultimate death. The way he treated his family and the servants was awful and would definitely make your blood boil. So, when he finally died, it felt like he got what he deserved. Mavin’s hatred drove him to act horribly towards everyone around him. His cruel actions and constant negativity built up until it all backfired on him, which led to his downfall. In the end, his death seemed like a fitting consequence for all the pain he caused. But how did it happen? That’s what we are about to find out.

Spoilers Ahead

How did Mavin change the will?

From the first appearance, you could tell that Mavin was someone who only thought about himself.

‘Master Of The House’ Recap (Episodes 1-7) Explained: Did Kaimook Kill Mr. Roongroj?
Image
The sudden death of diamond tycoon Mr. Roongroj left the Thevasatitpaisarn family in turmoil. Netflix’s Thai mystery drama series, Master of the House, is about how far Roongroj’s two sons would go to claim ownership of their father’s company, Theva Gems. Phupat and Mavin were deeply disturbed when their father announced his decision to marry his maid, Kaimook. Phupat was offended when he saw his father gift Kaimook his mother’s jewelry, but that did not bother Roongroj. He was confident about his decision, and he often expressed how Kaimook was smarter than both his sons. Roongroj died the night he legally married Kaimook. He fell from the window of his room and died immediately. Kaimook was convinced that Roongroj was murdered, and she made it her life’s purpose to find her late husband’s killer.

Spoiler Alert

Who killed Mavin?

Mavin had blackmailed Roongroj’s legal counsel.

‘Colors Of Evil: Red’ Netflix Review: Polish Crime-Drama Is A Dour Reminder That Patriarchy Needs To Die
Image
Time and again, the crime-drama genre has been used to highlight how evil men are and how they’ve turned the world into a hellscape for women. David Fincher has practically dedicated a major chunk of his life to trying to tell people that America, and practically any country that decides to emulate America, has become unlivable for women because there are too many psychopaths running around everywhere. Films like Memories of a Murder, Talvar, and Silence of the Lambs showed that the justice system is weirdly biased towards men, and even though these representatives of justice don’t have any personal relations with the perpetrator, they always try to give them the benefit of the doubt just so that they can play down the trauma inflicted upon a woman. And Killers of the Flower Moon highlighted the fact that if misogyny is mixed with racism, then its repercussions can be felt throughout generations.

Dragon Ball's First Editor Claimed One Piece Would Never Become Popular
Image
According to a resurfaced social media post, Dragon Ball’s first editor, Kazuhiko Torishima, claimed that One Piece would never become popular. The Japanese editor and producer, who had already thrice refused to greenlight One Piece’s publication (One Piece was successful on the fourth try), strongly rebuked the claim that One Piece would ever become a pillar of Shonen Jump, stating, "There’s no way! What are you talking about?"

The comment first appeared in a 2019 X (formerly Twitter) post from Yasukai Kita, the creator of manga series Kenka Shobai, who recalled a conversation he and Torishima had just after One Piece began serialization in the late 1990s. Kita claimed that One Piece would become a "pillar" of Shonen Jump, which Torishima, Shonen Jump’s Editor-in-Chief at the time, strongly denied. The comment resurfaced in a recent X post from a popular One Piece news translator, seen below.

Jo Koy To Host 81st Golden Globes
Jo Koy
Preeminent comedian Jo Koy has been set to host the 81st Golden Globe Awards, in what will be his first outing in that capacity at a major awards show.

Self-Taped Auditions Are Expensive, Controversial, and They Aren’t Going Anywhere
Image
Vanessa Chester got a self-tape audition request for a role that sounded perfect. She asked an actress friend to run lines as she recorded herself, only to discover that her friend believed she’d just booked the same role. Through Chester, not the casting office, she learned that the production decided to go in another direction.

Unhappy coincidence? Sure. It’s also one of the many reasons why the new standard of self-taping is more complicated and often more stressful than actors running between castings, LA traffic be damned.

Self-tapes have their advantages: greater accessibility, wider pools of candidates, and chances for actors to edit and reset their performances. But while they were once an occasional ask, the pandemic made self-tapes the norm. Today, in-person auditions are the exception.

Agents, managers, and actors have long used platforms like Breakdown Services and Talent Systems to find auditions. Today, those platforms are...
