As one of the defining moments in all of human history, World War II shaped the modern world in more ways than one, where even in the entertainment industry, the numerous real-life stories adapted & fictional storytelling potential have led to some engaging television shows. Moreover, the topic of the Second World War itself expands to multiple narrative angles, where many TV series have shown audiences various genres all within this historical setting.

Whether these shows exude heavy drama, comedy/satire or are dedicated to framing actual events, viewers are drawn to the fascinating era of World War II and become connected to the characters and the great storytelling on display. At the same time, several World War II TV shows also expand on relevant themes that remind people how monumental and important this time in history was and that audiences, as well as the entire world, should never forget these events.

Arri has published the Alexa 35 Showreel for 2024. This showreel aims to demonstrate the cinematographic diversity of projects shot on the Arri 35, from blockbusters to indie commercials, and also to show the camera’s stunning imagery and dynamic range. Check it out.

As stated by Arri: We are proud to present the new Alexa 35 showreel, highlighting the wide variety of productions and looks that have been captured with the camera. Thank you to all the cinematographer for their contributions. Featuring a global mix, the showreel includes not only major blockbusters but also indie films, TV series, commercials, music videos, and art projects. The visual styles and aesthetics are incredibly diverse, crafted by talented directors and DPs using various lenses, lighting setups, production designs, and postproduction techniques, not to mention different features of the Alexa 35, such as Extended Sensitivity modes and Arri Textures.

In upcoming documentary “Bribe, Inc,” one of the key characters is a whistleblower known as Figaro, so named because he requested journalists contact him via an ad placed in French broadsheet Le Figaro.

Like most whistleblowers on camera, he’s shown via a silhouette and with a different voice to hide his identity. But such was the fear over him being caught and the implications of what he was revealing to the camera, that the filmmakers went even further, blurring his already silhouetted image to obscure the shape of his head and body, quarantining his interviews from the rest of the media for safety and not just digitally altering his voice, but getting someone else to speak his words verbatim. For a nice dramatic touch and a hat tip to TV conspiracies, the voice they used was that of William B. Davis, better known as the “smoking man” in “The X-Files.

Leading broadcast composition and sound design agency Mcasso welcomes Dom Scott as their new Director of Business Relations.

Dom joins from Wisebuddah a prominent radio jingle production company where he was Business Relations Manager for international markets. Prior to that his career encompassed a research role with the Financial Times and a background in live music promotion and music management.

Mcasso is a long established name in UK music composition, synchronisation and audio production with a history spanning 40 years and a famous body of work across Advertising, Film, TV, Radio, Podcasting and Gaming including projects for McDonalds, Bentley, Hyundai, Kelloggs, Mars, Google, Chelsea Fc, Made in England with Martin Scorsese, Sega, ITV, Meta, Global and the BBC.

Earlier this year Mcasso produced the themes and sound design for BBC One’s revival of Saturday night prime time series Gladiators, the biggest entertainment launch from the BBC in 7-years reaching an audience of 8.7 million viewers.

On Sunday, 1 October 2023, at 6:15 Pm, BBC One presents the latest episode of “Countryfile.” This long-running show features Adam Henson and Sean Fletcher, who return to East Anglia to follow farmer Tom Martin’s journey and determine the outcome of his harvest. They will assess whether Tom’s hard work has resulted in a successful harvest.

Additionally, the episode will feature John Craven, who will announce the winner of a photography competition. This competition is a highlight of the show, showcasing the talent of individuals capturing the beauty of the countryside through their photographs.

“Countryfile” offers viewers a window into rural life, farming, and the natural world. In this episode, viewers can expect to see the culmination of Tom Martin’s farming efforts and enjoy the stunning photography submitted for the competition.

Tom Martin has been named head of business affairs and general counsel for the CW.

He joins the currently restructuring network after most recently serving as head of business affairs for MasterClass. There, he negotiated deals to set up classes taught by Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, Bob Iger, Aaron Sorkin, Steph Curry and Serena Williams. Before that, he created the business model and deal structure at Quibi.

Martin’s other previous experiences include serving as senior vice president of business affairs at Fox, where he was the lead negotiator for all of the company’s unscripted programming and worked on deals for “The Masked Singer” and “I Can See Your Voice.” He also worked at Comcast and NBCUniversal, leading business affairs for cable networks such as E!, USA Syfy and Esquire and for the scripted and unscripted cable studios, UCP and Wilshire Studios, respectively. The CW has a new business affairs boss.

The network has hired former Masterclass, Quibi and Fox exec Tom Martin as Head of Business Affairs and General Counsel.

The hire is the latest at The CW, which recently brought in Brad Schwartz as President of Entertainment, Heather Olander as unscripted boss and Chris Spadaccini as Chief Marketing Officer, following its purchase by Nexstar.

Martin has experience structuring and negotiating business models and deals for scripted, unscripted and documentary programming for broadcast television, cable television and streaming platforms, which will be useful given The CW’s new focus.

Martin most recently served as the Head of Business Affairs at educational platform MasterClass.
