Exclusive: Dakota Johnson and Ro Donnelly’s TeaTime Pictures production company has signed a first-look deal with Sony Pictures Television. Under the pact, they will develop and produce scripted content for the indie studio targeting streaming and cable platforms.

The pact reunites Johnson with Sony Pictures TV Studios President Katherine Pope. In her role as TV President of Chernin Entertainment, Pope executive produced the 2012 Fox comedy series Ben & Kate with Johnson as Kate in her first starring turn and first TV role.

With Season 3 of “And Just Like That…” about to premiere on Thursday, Sarah Jessica Parker is finally revealing how she felt about the show killing off Mr. Big, her main love interest, in the show’s Season 1 premiere.

Parker has played Carrie Bradshaw since 1998 on “Sex on the City” and has reprised the role through two blockbuster movies and now the reboot “And Just Like That…” which premiered back in 2021. Over the course of the original show, Carrie’s central, and often most tumultuous love interest was always Mr. Big, played by Chris Noth. The pair finally got married in the 2008 movie “Sex and the City.” But audiences have been split about the formative relationship, with many fans saying she should have ended up with Aiden Shaw (John Corbett.)

Both sides of the fandom were left shocked when in the very first episode of “And Just Like That…” the show decided to kill off Mr.

There are some team-ups that you just don’t expect. One of those is coming to Peacock, as The Miniature Wife finds its lead cast. This comedy series sounds like a blast.

In the run up to its LA Screenings event on Sunday, Sony Pictures Television has snapped up global distribution rights to the upcoming series “The Miniature Wife,” starring Elizabeth Banks and “Succession” Emmy-winner Matthew Macfadyen.

The relationship comedy series explores the shifting power dynamics between spouses as a technological mishap triggers the ultimate marital crisis, pitting them against each other in a battle for dominance. It will air on Peacock in the U.S.

Produced by Media Res, the one-hour comedy series is inspired by author Manuel Gonzalez’s eponymous short story about a man who accidentally shrinks his wife.

Sony Pictures Television (Spt) has taken global on Peacock’s The Miniature Wife starring Elizabeth Banks and Matthew Macfadyen.

Spt will sell the show produced by Media Res outside the States.

Revealed by Deadline last year, The Miniature Wife is a high-concept comedy that examines the power imbalances between spouses—played by Banks (Pitch Perfect) and Macfadyen—who battle each other for supremacy after a technological accident induces the ultimate relationship crisis.

Banks and Macfadyen are joined by Zoe Lister-Jones, Sofia Rosinsky, O-t Fagbenle (The Handmaid’s Tale, Presumed Innocent), and Sian Clifford (Fleabag, The Ballad of Wallis Island) as series regulars. Ronny Chieng (The Daily Show, Crazy Rich Asians), Aasif Mandvi (Evil, The Daily Show), Rong Fu (Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, Hello (Again)) and Tricia Black (Small Achievable Goals, Pretty Hard Cases) round out the cast in recurring roles.

The 2025 edition of Mubi Fest is almost here. IndieWire can announce the global dates of international experience Mubi Fest, starting with its return to Chicago April 26 to 27. This year, Mubi Fest expands to to 11 cities globally, concluding in Glasgow from November 28 to 30.

Alex Ross Perry was approached to make a documentary about Pavement. There was a slight hitch: The band kinda sorta did not want a documentary made about them. Or rather, they didn’t want one of those things where fans of the band talk about how amazing the quintet were, in between archival concert footage and Behind the Music-style interviews and cute animated transitions and all that jazz. The group had announced their first show in a decade, set to happen in 2020 — only to have the pandemic shut the world down.

Mubi has acquired “Pavements,” Alex Ross Perry’s unconventional documentary-musical-biopic about cult ’90s slacker band Pavement, for multiple territories following its recent world premiere at the Venice Film Festival.

The arthouse distributor, streamer and production company has picked up all rights to the film — soon to bow in both the New York Film Festival and BFI London Film Festival — for the U.K., Ireland, Germany, Austria, France and Canada. Meanwhile, Mubi also acquired exclusive SVOD rights for the U.S.

The deal was signed with Utopia, which is handling world sales and, the day after the film’s Venice launch, announced it would also distribute theatrically in the U.S. Mubi says it will announce its release plans in the coming months.

Utopia has picked up the U.S. rights to Pavements, director Alex Ross Perry’s musical portrait of the 1990s al-rock band a day after a world premiere in Venice earlier this week.

“One of our favorite filmmakers, one of our favorite bands, Pavements joining Utopia is simply a dream come true. The band’s iconic status has only continued to blossom out of the ’90s and Alex has crafted a film that transcends documentary and questions what the format can be in a surprising and novel way,” Utopia head of marketing and distribution Kyle Greenberg said in a statement on Friday.

MovieWeb just attended the June 24 world premiere of MaXXXine world premiere in Hollywood, where director Ti West, star Mia Goth, and plenty of other A-listers were in attendance. Breaking Bad alum Giancarlo Esposito put on a clinic on the red carpet, where protesters were also seen waving disparaging signs about the dangers of Hollywood. After a closer glance, however, it became clear these demonstrators were just one of many aspects that the premiere had gleefully organized.

Keep your big-budget extravaganzas and intellectual properties! These days, Hollywood actors are breathlessly lining up to join the Benoit Blanc Cinematic Universe. Ever since Rian Johnson singled-handedly revived the big screen whodunnit with 2019's "Knives Out," the mid-budget murder-mystery series has become the hottest destination for rising stars, A-listers, and under-sung veterans of the industry to flex their acting muscles as the various colorful characters that occupy this world. “Wayne’s World” is looking to party on in 2024.

The iconic buddy comedy lands a live stage reading courtesy of nonprofit arts organization Film Independent, the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts, and Mubi. The new version of “Wayne’s World” will have a cast solely comprised of women, queer, and non-binary actors, with Abbi Jacobson and Zoe Lister-Jones in the two lead roles originally played by Mike Myers and Dana Carvey.

In addition to Jacobson’s Wayne and Lister-Jones’ Garth, Kate Berlant plays agent Benjamin who was originally portrayed by Rob Lowe in the film. Nicole Byer stars as Russel, Poppy Cassandra’s character.

The cast additionally includes Robby Hoffman and Poppy Liu, with more names to be announced. The full “Wayne’s World” reinvention will take place at the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts’ Bram Goldsmith Theater on Wednesday, June 11.

Zoe Lister-Jones was proud to attend Sunday’s Spirit Awards, and the reason is twofold. First, the multihyphenate talent turned up in Santa Monica to support a pair of nominations for Roku’s Slip, the original series she created, starred in and executive produced alongside a team that includes Dakota Johnson. Reason No. 2: She did so by walking into the event hand-in-hand with a new love in her life.

When the subject of her plus-one came up during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the 41-year-old Lister-Jones responded with a big reveal: “I’m here, I’m queer, I have some fear but I’m working through it.” Lister-Jones is in a new relationship with a fellow filmmaker, Sammi Cohen, who most recently directed Netflix’s You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah, the teen comedy starring Adam Sandler and family including wife Jackie and their daughters Sadie and Sunny.

Another big award show took place this weekend (in addition to the SAG Awards), the Film Independent Spirit Awards, which celebrates indie film and TV. One thing about this awards show is that their idea of independent sometimes makes me scratch my head a bit, with HBO’s big-budget The Last of Us nominated a whole bunch in the TV category, along with Netflix’s Beef and several other streaming shows, which I’m not sure one could call independent. For films, there’s a $30 million budget cap. For TV, I’m honestly not sure what the benchmark is because Last of Us was notoriously an expensive show to shoot, costing at least $100 million.
