The Nacelle Company is teaming with Breaker’s Blockchain Entertainment Studio on the release of Antarctica, a romantic comedy written and directed by Keith Bearden. Starring Chloë Levine, Clea Lewis, Damian Young, and newcomer Kimmie Muroya, the pic will be released sometime later this year.
It’s a story of two life-long best friends that experience a tidal wave of adult pressures and problems as they face down their last year of high school in small-town USA. Will they crack under the societal pressures, or will they triumph over the metaphorical icy tundra they call their late teens?
The deal was negotiated by Anna Roberts of The Nacelle Company and Jake Craven of Breaker.

If you’re in the mood for a sad and nostalgic short film to help you get through your Friday afternoon, we’ve got just the thing you’re looking for. Keith Bearden’s short film The Raftman’s Razor debuted at Sundance way back in 2005, but it’s finally made its way to YouTube this month, meaning you can now see it from the comfort of your cubicle. The film tells the bittersweet tale of two young comic fans who become swept away in a comic book entitled The Raftman. Each issue is 30-plus pages featuring a man in a suit floating at sea in a yellow raft. The only action in each issue involves the man shaving with his trusty straight razor while having one profound Zen Koan-esque thought about life. The boys become obsessed with the book and...

A Dutch protectorate tucked near the very bottom of the Caribbean, Aruba is a small, arid, resort powered island that, despite its idiosyncrasies, may feel at times, especially along its sunbather packed eastern shores, like any other tourist satellite (although a particularly intoxicating one it is). Still, woe is he who gets caught in the all too ubiquitous American simulacrum, one of decidedly marked-up Five Guys fries and T.G.I. Friday’s chicken fingers, of cheeseburger “specials” at Hooters with beef that taste like copper. Of course, this is a film festival on a beautiful tourist trap, so there’s a lot of glamor, some forced, although mostly not in this particularly pricey locale; if you look hard enough, you can even find a place along the resorts with actual Aruban food.
The Aruba Film Festival is a young festival however, perhaps against all odds considering some of the...

An aging porn star befriends a star-struck fan in this poignant comedy from director Keith Bearden, in theaters Friday
Meet Monica Velour is a very sweet natured comedy about an aging porn star and her biggest fan, a seventeen year old nerd with a nostalgia fetish. Kim Cattrall plays Monica, a beautiful centerfold who headlined a number of off-the-wall adult films in the late seventies and early eighties. She has since fallen on hard times, resorting to ridicule at the local strip club where she dances to hoots and hollers of, "Is she wearing depends?" Tobe (Dustin Ingram), who has been a collector of Monica Velour VHS tapes, posters, and magazines throughout the years, decides to pay the hopeless and desolate Velour a visit while on a road trip to sell his prized Hot Dog vending truck. After an initial bumpy meeting, these two lost souls slowly, but surely, become friends,...

Meet Keith Bearden, director of Meet Monica Velour.
Starting off our conversation on Stanley Kubrick and The Shining (Keith did his homework on my favorite films via my bio on Gatw), director Keith Bearden and I found ourselves to get along quite well, as he used to be a film journalist himself for Fangoria Magazine (yup, I did my homework too). During our interview, we chat about his life-turning step into becoming a director, his relationships with former porn stars, the casting of Kim Cattrall, our favorite horror films, and the possibility of my marriage to Dustin Ingram, who plays main character Tobe in his first feature film, Meet Monica Velour.

Title: Meet Monica Velour Director: Keith Bearden Starring: Kim Cattrall, Dustin Ingram (’Glee’), Brian Dennehy Sexual comedies with older women in the lead role aren’t the biggest sellers in America today. As seen with the popularity of such hit movies as the ‘American Pie’ series, America is obsessed with sexualized images and plot-lines involving young characters, and fails to appreciate the attractiveness of older actors. But director Keith Bearden’s new romantic comedy, Anchor Bay Films’ ‘Meet Monica Velour,’ surprisingly breaks down all previous thoughts and misconceptions of relationships and love seen in other comedies. ‘Meet Monica Velour’ follows 17-year-old Tobe Hulbert (played by Dustin Ingram) as he graduates from high school and is deciding [...]...

Nothing is more fascinating than the private lives of famous people after they have lost traction with the public. In many parts of the entertainment industry, they can just live off of their accumulated wealth and become, say, the people behind the camera. This is not generally true, however, of veterans of the pornography industry, where women are forced out relatively young by most career standards and even the most successful figures don’t develop any skills that they can write on a résumé.
In “Meet Monica Velour,” we get a glance at the many ways that middle age is not kind to the ex-porn star. The movie is at once a coming-of-age story about a misfit and first loves and a fascinating exploration of what happens to the people that we (the public) discard.

Want to be in a movie? Well, if you don’t look like a runway model, have washboard abs or look anything like the cast members of The Twilight Saga, director Keith Bearden is looking for you. In all seriousness, Bearden has an appreciation for ideas and characters that feel real. Keith Bearden entertained us endlessly last year when he came to Tribeca with his debut feature, Meet Monica Velour. As the film, which stars Kim Cattrall, makes its ways into theaters, we asked him to round up a mini-festival of films from the decade that inspired him: the 1970s. (Learn more about Keith in his Faces of the Festival interview from last April.) Tobe (Dustin Ingram), the teenaged lead character in my film Meet Monica Velour, gives a speech early on in the film about his love for classic things, things that have stood the test of time, despite his friend's urging him to like 'normal stuff.' One of his lines is, 'The best movies are from the 70s.' Well, if you're talking about creative American cinema, social satire, philosophical and political subtext in film, drive-in movies, adult film, color horror films, the original blockbusters - I'd have to agree.

We're about to get a better look at Kim Cattrall, and hopefully you'll be able to take that the right way. Meet Monica Velour is hitting theaters April 8th, and it has Cattrall starring as an '80s porn star who suddenly finds herself with a fan on her doorstep.
I don't have that much to go on, although theoretically this is probably a tricky role to pull off, but you can at least check out the poster.

I don't have that much to go on, although theoretically this is probably a tricky role to pull off, but you can at least check out the poster.

Exclusive From Toronto: While distribution deals for some Toronto-premiered films percolate slowly, distributors continue to lock down films that premiere at earlier festivals. Anchor Bay Films has acquired distribution rights to Meet Monica Velour, a comedy that stars Kim Cattrall, Brian Dennehy and newcomer Dustin Ingram. It played at the Seattle and Tribeca festivals. Pic was written and directed by Keith Bearden and financed/produced by Gary Gilbert's Gilbert Films. When a young man sets out to find his favorite 80s porn star, instead of a fantasy sexpot he finds a 49-year old mom living in a trailer park and complicates her difficult life by trying to get close to her. The role is far less glamorous than Cattrall’s Sex and the City turns and her performance was lauded for the actress’ lack of vanity. The deal was made by Anchor Bay’s exec veep of acquisitions Kevin Kasha and prexy Bill Clark.

Keith Bearden, director of Meet Monica Velour, a quirky comedy that premiered this week at the Tribeca Film Festival, was looking for a fat kid when he found his lanky star, Dustin Ingram. In the title role Kim Cattrall plays an anti-Samantha character as an 80's soft core porn star living in a run down trailer, all the while raising her daughter on her own. Tobe, Dustin Ingram, brings new joys to awkwardness while portraying a hilarious nerd who transports himself cross country in a wiener mobile to catch a glimpse at his sexual idol, Monica Velour. The unlikely friendship to develop between Monica and Tobe is odd and appealing. Keith Bearden and Dustin Ingram are two characters in themselves, a comedic duo cut out for a reality show that I'd be sure to tune in to. Dustin Ingram and...

Keith Bearden’s “Meet Monica Velour” premiered on Sunday at New York’s School of Visual Arts as part of the ninth annual Tribeca Film Festival. After just a few minutes of establishing material, the film began to look a lot like other low-budget indies that recently clicked: its protagonist is a veritable — and virginial — nerd (very similar to the title character in “Napoleon Dynamite”); it constantly employs sight gags like a decades-old Weenie-mobile (not a far stretch from the Vw-bus in “Little Miss Sunshine”); its script calls for hip/irony-laden dialogue and terms like “Homeslice” (which is embarassingly similar to “Homeskillet” in “Juno”); and the list goes on. The reality is that this film cannot compete with those films on their strengths, but it does have a few of its own — and none is greater than the actress who plays its eponymous character, Kim Cattrall.

Keith Bearden and Dustin Ingram are pretty silly guys. I should have seen this considering the quirky nature of their film, Meet Monica Velour, but perhaps its sensitive side is what threw me off. Ingram stars in Bearden.s feature directorial debut as Tobe, a geeky high school grad who drives a vintage hot dog truck, hangs out with his 12-year-old neighbor and covets his collection of Monica Velour.s adult films. The latter would be considered a normal thing, but Monica was in her prime back in the 80s. Regardless, Tobe is adamant about seeing his dream girl live so hops in his hot dog mobile and heads to The Petting Zoo in Pinhook, Indiana. Monica struts her stuff, but to nobody.s liking. Well, nobody but Tobe. In fact, Tobe discovers he likes Monica for something entirely neglected by the porn industry, what she had on the inside.

It’s time to get to know Dustin Ingram. You may recognize him from the family-friendly superhero movie Sky High or the Nickelodeon series Unfabulous, but Ingram is all grown up now and delving into far more demanding roles. In Keith Bearden’s Meet Monica Velour, Ingram stars as Tobe, a geeky high school grad with eccentric interests, the most notable of which is an obsession with the hottest adult video actress of the 80s, Monica Velour. After finding out about an opportunity to see Monica perform live, Tobe hops in his hot dog truck and heads straight to Pinhook, Indiana. Nearly three decades past her prime, Monica is just not the [...]...

Kim Cattrall hated looking "f***ed up" on the set of her new movie "Meet Monica Velour". The 53-year-old actress, best known for her role as man eater Samantha Jones in "Sex and the City", plays an aging prostitute in the film, and admits she did her best to avoid seeing herself on screen.

"There were days when they actually changed the light to make me look harder and more overweight or just more f***ed up. I didn't see the dailies on it because I thought, 'You know, I've made a stand here that I'm gonna do this in a very truthful way, and if I look...

Cattrall 'Shocked' By Fat Film
Kim Cattrall was "shocked" watching herself as a washed-up prostitute in new movie Meet Monica Velour - because she piled on the pounds for the role.
The actress was told to gain weight because director Keith Bearden was determined to change the audience's view of the Sex and the City star.
Cattrall tells NYMag.com, "(Bearden) was very adamant about me gaining a lot of weight. He wanted me to gain like 35 pounds! Really, just for health reasons I couldn't do that. I also didn't have enough time to do it safely with a doctor's care. But what I did was I put on fifteen pounds, and that was comfortable. I could do that. I just didn't exercise at all."
The 53 year old insists she's pleased with the completed film, which premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York, even though she was stunned by her appearance onscreen.
She adds, "(It was) terrifying, really. Most of the time as an actress, you want to look desirable, you want to be pretty, you want to be sexy, you want to be lit properly - whereas here there were days when I didn't even have any make-up on. There were days when they actually changed the light to make me look harder and more overweight or just more f**ked up. I didn't see the dailies (daily footage) on it because I thought, 'You know, I've made a stand here that I'm gonna do this in a very truthful way, and if I look at them they might scare me.'
"But I felt the movie was very truthful... When I first saw the film I was in a bit of a shock because I didn't see myself. I couldn't find my spirit. Mine. Kim's. I felt it was so totally someone else, and a lot of it was really scary to look at."...

Kim Cattrall aka Samantha Jones in “Sex and the City,” spoke with Vulture about her turn in the recent indie flick that’s playing at the Tribeca Film Festival, “Meet Monica Velour.” In the film, Cattrell plays a different type of sexy vamp – a washed up ‘70s porn star that’s out of her prime who is pursued by a teenage fan.
In sum, while the character might reside in a neighboring galaxy to Samantha – it’s 180 degrees from the “Sex and the City” babe. Whereas Samantha is surrounded by friends in a Manhattan penthouse, Velour lives with six cats in a trailer park.
In prepping for the film, the director Keith Bearden asked Cattrall to gain 35 pounds, which she refused to do on account of health reasons (she settled for 15).
According to Cattrall, she’s far from gorgeous onscreen:

New director Keith Bearden fought back tears as he invited Tribeca audiences to Meet Monica Velour at the Sva Theater for the film's world premiere on Sunday afternoon. 'Movies are dreams and fantasy that the writer or director has,' he began. 'If you're lucky you get all the people you need to make a movie who make your dream real. The missing part - even though this movie has been finished - the missing part is here tonight: the audience.' He told the sold-out crowd that his lead actress Kim Cattrall (who will be reviving her iconic role of Samantha in May's Sex and the City 2) couldn't be there due to a grueling 10 performances a week schedule on London's West End. 'But through the miracle of technology, she sent me an email yesterday, which I will read to you. ‘Keith, I wish I could be there today.

It sounds like a painful concept that you'd find in a sleazy Hollywood comedy: a young nerd, fresh out of high school, befriends a has-been porno queen, falls madly in love, helps her out of a jam, and learns a few valuable life lessons in the progress. You could probably name all the key plot points and supporting characters without even seeing the film, right? That's certainly what the film festival guide's premise for Meet Monica Velour had me thinking. Fortunately I do not write reviews of film festival guide premises, which is why I watched the movie itself.
And, hey, it's actually quite a little winner, truth be told. Oh sure, it hits a few stumbling blocks here and there, given that it is a first-timer's feature after all, but overall I found myself touched and rather impressed by the flick's restraint, honesty, and emotional heft.

TribecaFilm.com: Tell us a little about Meet Monica Velour. Keith Bearden: It's a sweet little comedy/drama about a forgotten '70s porn star and the naïve teen boy who drives across country to meet her. TribecaFilm.com: What inspired you to tell this story? Kb: I used to write about film for magazines. Once I contacted a retired '80s adult star to see if she was in B action movies under a different name. She said she was not, but she loved to meet her fans, and for 200 bucks I could spend the night with her. My jaw dropped. I thought, is this what happens to these women who make millions for the male producers in the porn industry? That was the seed. Actress Kim Cattrall almost missed out on playing a washed-up prostitute in new movie "Meet Monica Velour" - because she looked too good. Director Keith Bearden told the "Sex and the City" star she'd have to put on weight and ditch the glamor to land the lead in his indie movie, which premieres at the upcoming Tribeca Film Festival in New York.
He says, "My big concern was, 'She's way too good looking!' I was like, 'You need to gain weight, and the goal is to blow people's image of you into tiny little pieces. I'm going to make you look bad at every turn.'"
Starring also Dustin Ingram, the indie movie is about a young man who travels cross-country to meet his dream woman, a 1980s cinema siren who is now a 50-year-old single mother in the middle of a child custody battle.
