On August 23rd, Lionsgate released a new version of The Crow onto the big screen (you can read our 6/10 review of the film at This Link and see how we thinks it compares to other Crow movies Here) – and since it turned out to be both a critical failure and a box office bomb, we knew it wasn’t going to end up having much of a theatrical run. Now Lionsgate has announced that The Crow is already set to receive a PVOD (Premium Video on Demand) and Premium Electronic Sell-Through release this Friday, September 13th. A press release notes that the movie will be available “to buy for $24.99 and to rent for $19.99 (for a 48-hour period) on participating digital platforms from which movies are purchased, including Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, Google Play, Fandango at Home, and more.”

The Crow just wrapped up its second weekend in theaters and, for the most part, it feels like the remake has already been forgotten. Perhaps we shouldn't be surprised seeing as it debuted at #8 during its opening weekend and has already slipped to #11.

The movie flopped during its first frame with a $4.6 million debut and made only $1.8 million this weekend to take its current domestic total to a mere $8.5 million. Overseas, it's performed no better and sits at just $13.2 million at the worldwide box office.

With a $50 million budget, this is nothing short of a disaster for Lionsgate and The Crow will likely go down as one of 2024's biggest flops.

With 22% on Rotten Tomatoes, Rupert Sanders' remake has a slightly better 65% score from audiences; however, that's done little to help its box office prospects and we'd imagine a Digital release is now imminent.

Rupert Sanders' much-maligned remake of The Crow has had a terrible weekend at the box office, opening at #8 and grossing a mere $4.6 million, even less than the Coraline re-release. 

It's become apparent that people didn't want a new take on the 1994 cult classic, something the director of that movie - Alex Proyas - has been saying for a while now. In a series of Facebook posts, the filmmaker had fun with The Crow's disappointing performance (it's now slipped to 19% on Rotten Tomatoes).

"Wow. Box office is a bloodbath," he commented before adding, "I thought the remake was a cynical cash-grab. Not much cash to grab it seems." 

As well as sharing screenshots of negative reviews, Proyas also posted a meme that stated, "Marked Safe From Seeing 'Crow' 2024 Today." While these comments are relatively tongue-in-cheek, they somewhat contradict what he said when the first trailer for The Crow...

1994's The Crow starring the late Brandon Lee is a cult classic and a movie many of its fans have long argued should be left alone and never remade.

That's not how Hollywood typically works, though, and a remake based on the 1989 comic book series by James O'Barr arrived in theaters this weekend.

The first trailer didn't receive a warm response online, with many critical of the lead's new look and the obvious differences between this movie and its predecessor. The review embargo didn't lift until The Crow was already playing in theaters and, as we write this, it sits at a dismal 20% on Rotten Tomatoes. Its opening weekend box office prospects, meanwhile, are also pretty, ahem, caw-ful.

Interestingly, The Crow's Audience Score (now called the "Popcornmeter") appears to tell a different story. With 66%, it suggests there may be another divide between fans and critics when it comes to...

Lionsgate waited as long as possible before lifting The Crow's review embargo. Seeing as it sits at 21% on Rotten Tomatoes with a Critics Consensus that calls it "dreary and poorly paced," it's not hard to see why.

Now, though, regular moviegoers are chiming in with their thoughts and...well, they're seemingly no better.

The Crow has been awarded a B- CinemaScore, putting it on par with the likes of Dark Phoenix, Hellboy, Sin City: A Dame to Kill For, Hulk, The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, and Punisher: War Zone.

In some respects, it feels like the odds have been stacked against The Crow from the beginning. The response to news of a reboot was met with largely negative reactions and the trailer received a surprising amount of scorn, particularly for Bill Skarsgard's appearance as Eric.

The Crow is now playing in theaters and, if the first wave of reviews is anything to go by, Rupert Sanders' remake will have the odds stacked against it at the box office this weekend.

As we write this, it sits at a dismal 22% on Rotten Tomatoes after initially debuting in the single digits. However, if you do plan on checking out The Crow over the next few days, we're sure you're eager to learn whether you'll need to stick around through the credits.

While there's been chatter about this movie being the start of a new franchise, we can confirm that, no, The Crow does not have a mid or post-credits scene. When the movie ends, that's it! You can always stick around to see the names of everyone who worked on it, of course.

With a résumé that includes the It franchise, Castle Rock and Barbarian, Bill Skarsgard flew off into familiar territory with a title role in the latest incarnation of The Crow. But, then again, he likes it dark.

James O'Barr's The Crow is getting a new adaptation with a new feature film hitting theaters this summer. To modernize the story, Bill Skarsgrd's Eric was given a look that's more reminiscent of today's rap stars, marking a departure from how Eric Draven appears in the original comic.

In an issue of Empire Magazine (per /Film), Skarsgrd addressed his look in the film. He said he believed he was too fit at the time of filming for that role, feeling that the Eric character shouldn't have been quite so ripped. Skarsgrd suggested that, realistically, Eric should be a lot thinner --- at least before his resurrection as a vengeance-seeking vigilante raised from the dead.

Ahead of The Crow's release in theaters next month, Lionsgate has shared three new teaser images hinting at Eric's mission and the fact "He won't stop until the wrong things are set right."

Each image of the character is accompanied by the words "Revenge," "Rebirth," and "Repeat," a nod to the fact Eric rises from the dead to take revenge on those who murdered him.

Our first look at the movie received a mixed-to-negative response from fans of the 1994 classic. Most of the backlash was aimed at Skarsgård's Eric looking more like Jared Leto's Joker in 2016's Suicide Squad than Brandon Lee's iconic interpretation of the comic book character.

Stuntman Chad Stahelski was close friends with actor Brandon Lee… and when Lee was killed in a tragic accident on the set of the 1994 version of The Crow, director Alex Proyas chose Stahelski to be Lee’s stand-in for the filming of scenes that still needed to be filmed involving Lee’s character Eric Draven. Lee’s face was then placed over Stahelski’s in post-production. The Crow will be resurrected this summer with the release of a new feature film. The reboot features Bill Skarsgrd in the role of Eric Draven, the character previously portrayed by Brandon Lee in the original feature film adaptation.

In the reboot, Skarsgrd is joined by FKA twigs as Shelly Webster. Its story plays out similarly to the previous film along with the original comic book by James O'Barr, which is a tale of revenge. When Eric and Shelly are brutally murdered, the former is resurrected by a mysterious crow, allowing him to exact bloody revenge against the perpetrators. Lionsgate may have pushed the release date of The Crow remake back from June 7th to August 23rd yesterday, but they still promoted the film during their panel at CinemaCon today, showing attendees a new trailer. We don’t know when that trailer is going to be making its way online, but JoBlo’s own Lance Vlcek was in attendance and reports that the new trailer reveals more about the film’s story.

We’re hearing rumbles that a new British film is heading our way sooner rather than later from director John Jencks. The Hippopotamus director is helming Promenade, a Brighton set whodunnit, next and the project has just started filming, we hear.

The announcement comes with an ambiguous tagline: “50 Cast, 12 Stories, 1 Plot. No Heroes.” Colour us intrigued.

Alex Proyas, who directed the original version of The Crow in 1994 is not a fan of the idea remaking the film, the new version of which will be released on June 7.

Proyas’ reservations, he says, stem not from some sense of proprietorship, but from fidelity to the original film’s star, Brandon Lee, who died when a gun malfunctioned during production.

“I really don’t get any joy from seeing negativity about any fellow filmmakers work,” wrote Proyas in a post online. “And I’m certain the cast and crew really had all good intentions, as we all do on any film. So it pains me to say any more on this topic, but I think the fan’s response speaks volumes. [‘The Crow’] is not just a movie. Brandon Lee died making it, and it was finished as a testament to his lost brilliance and tragic loss. It is his legacy.

Update: If you’re wondering what original The Crow director Alex Proyas thought of the trailer for the remake, the answer is that he’s keeping most of his opinions to himself… but he has shared enough to confirm that his reaction wasn’t positive. Proyas took to social media to say, “‘Crow Wick’ Trailer? No comment.“

Yesterday, a short teaser for the upcoming remake of The Crow dropped online with the promise that a full trailer would follow today – and, true to their word, Lionsgate has just unveiled that trailer. You can check it out in the embed above to see Bill Skarsgard in action as the new version of goth rocker Eric Draven.

Skarsgard is joined in the cast by singer FKA twigs, who takes on the role of Shelly Webster, the love of Eric’s life. Danny Huston (Yellowstone) plays the lead villain.

Lionsgate’s official trailer for The Crow is three minutes of action and spoilers for those who aren’t familiar with the the original graphic novel by James O’Barr or the 1993 film adaptation starring Brandon Lee. After years of stops and starts, The Crow reboot is finally flying and now has the first trailer to prove it.

Bill Skarsgard leads the film, which centers on a man who is murdered, alongside his fiancée but is granted supernatural powers to seek revenge.

The Crow began life as a comic book, with James O’Barr debuting the character in 1989. It grew to new levels of popularity with the cult hit film, which starred the late Brandon Lee, who was tragically killed in an on-set accident during filming. Multiple sequels followed, including The Crow: City of Angels (1996), The Crow: Salvation (2000) and The Crow: Wicked Prayer (2005).

But the current reboot took nearly 20 years to get off the ground, with multiple stars and filmmakers coming and going. Blade Stephen Norrington took a stab at one point, while F. Javier Gutiérrez (Before the Fall) and star Luke Evans tried to break the curse at another point.

A new adaptation of the original comic book series by James O'Barr, The Crow is set to hit theaters on June 7. On March 13, a new teaser trailer was shared online by Lionsgate, announcing that the full trailer will be dropping on March 14. To hold filmgoers over until then, the teaser unveiled new footage of what appears to be the resurrection of Eric Draven, played in the movie by Bill Skarsgård. Also revealed is the official logo for the remake, which hadn't been shown until now. The new teaser can be viewed below.

After spending more than a decade in development hell, a remake of The Crow (watch it Here) has made its way through production and is set to receive a theatrical release, courtesy of Lionsgate, on June 7th. A couple weeks ago, we saw the first images of Bill Skarsgard and singer FKA twigs as the new versions of goth rocker Eric Draven and the love of his life, Shelly; images that didn’t go over well with original The Crow director Alex Proyas. Now we’ve been informed that a full trailer for the film will be released online tomorrow – and while we wait for that, a (very) short teaser has made its way online and can be seen in the embed above. In this teaser, we’re treated to the sight of Skarsgard writhing around in a thick liquid that’s presumably meant to be blood. And that’s it.

Exclusive: Lionsgate’s John Wick spinoff Ballerina starring Ana de Armas will be delayed a year from June 7, 2024 to June 6, 2025.
