Shohreh Aghdashloo still remembers the blood, bitter in her mouth. It spilled from a gash in her head after a hail of stones hit her during a pro-democracy rally in Tehran. The year was 1979. The Islamic Revolution was convulsing Iran. She was 26.
“The sky was full of stones,” she recalls. “I was ever so angry. I was numb. At that moment, I decided that no, no, no. I need to leave.”
She fled under cover of night, making her way through Istanbul, Yugoslavia and Paris before settling in London and eventually Hollywood.
She’s never returned. “I am banned,” she explains. “If I do, they will kill me.”
Following recent Israeli and American air strikes in Iran — widely seen as the most direct confrontation between Iran and the West in decades — the Oscar-nominated actress found herself reliving her moment of exile. But this time, grief and fear were tinged with...

“SNL” fans know Mikey Day as the guy who turns up in a bunch of sketches every week, maybe as the father who gets into traffic arguments that require lots of hand gestures and signs or in a longstanding impression of Donald Trump Jr.
Behind the camera, however, Day is increasingly known as someone who can help everyone from Kate McKinnon to Tom Hanks go viral — even if the average viewer of the long-running comedy showcase has no idea of his unique abilities.
Without Day and his writing partner, Streeter Seidell, there would be no David S. Pumpkins, the kooky Halloween figure who even made his way into an animated special at NBC, or Miss Rafferty, the strange woman who is often kidnapped by aliens. Last season, Day helped conceive of a sketch in which he played a man who looked a lot like the famous MTV cartoon figure — and...

It shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone that John Mulaney is one of the funniest comedians working today. His material possesses a sharp wit that's only matched by his theatrical showmanship. Mulaney knows how to play to a crowd and, even better, subvert their expectations when it comes to delivering a great punchline. Some of his best jokes often involve him going on about a subject only he really cares about, and ultimately winning folks over to his side. It's even funnier when the joke is mostly to make himself laugh. As of late, the Emmy-award winning comedian is doing incredible work for Netflix with "Everybody's Live With John Mulaney."
It's one of the best late night talks shows on television simply because it's the only place where you can see Bonnie Aarons garbed in her full "Mulholland Drive" makeup simply for a throwaway gag.

The longest-running live-action comedy in American television history, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, has been making people crack up for about 20 years now. And honestly, it has earned that title by being absolutely bonkers in the best way possible. The show has built and still continues to build a diehard fan following with its dark humor and unhinged chaos of “The Gang,” consisting of actors Dennis, Dee, Charlie, Mac, and Frank, played by Glenn Howerton, Kaitlin Olson, Charlie Day, Rob McElhenney, and Danny DeVito.
These five dysfunctional folks run a failing bar in Philly, never learn their lessons, and get into ridiculous situations while being absolutely terrible human beings. Ranking It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia‘s best episodes is a task in itself, but we are basing this on how much they make me laugh, how much we can use their quotes to annoy friends, and the what-the-hell factor that makes the show so special.

Resident Alien has been a delight since its premiere in 2021, seamlessly blending situational comedy with sci-fi world-building and a quirky imagination. Season 3, perhaps its best yet, premiered more than one year ago, and fans are eagerly awaiting Season 4 as the show heads to the USA Network.
There's a kindness and a deep understanding of the human condition laced throughout that show, and it constantly reminds me of possibly my favorite sci-fi comedy on television, a very similar (and arguably even better) series from 2016 that aired on TBS. It developed a small but loyal cult following in Season 2 after word-of-mouth spread, and was renewed for Season 3. Until it wasn't.
Extraterrestrials and People of Earth
People of Earth was one of the rare shows that critics and audiences agreed was great; it currently has an 89% critics' score and an 86% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. Created by David Jenkins (Our Flag Means Death...

Judy Reyes, Russell Wong, and Garret Dillahunt in ‘High Potential’ episode 11 (Disney/Carlos Lopez-Calleja)
ABC’s High Potential episode 11’s case of the week involves a deathbed murder confession. An elderly dying man asks his family to record his confession and then claims he murdered his son-in-law, Barry, 10 years ago by pushing him down the stairs.
Lieutenant Selena Soto (Judy Reyes) gets a surprise visit from Lt. Melon (Garret Dillahunt) and another detective, there to brag that they’ve got a confession and closed a cold case. The detectives and Morgan (Kaitlin Olson) watch the action from outside Soto’s office and can only speculate about what’s going on since they brought champagne.
They drop off the champagne, and Soto slams a chair into a desk after they leave. She’s pissed they solved the Bucket Lane murder and that it turned out George Donovan was the murderer. Selena...

Keke Palmer had her experience working on a Ryan Murphy project as one of the stars of Scream Queens, the horror comedy series that aired for two seasons between 2015 and 2016. Unfortunately, it's not a time that she looks back upon very fondly.

Keke Palmer recalled her time on the Scream Queens set and remembered a moment with co-creator Ryan Murphy after taking a day off.
The Emmy award-winning star is set to release a memoir titled Master of Me: The Secret to Controlling Your Narrative, which recalls the incident with Murphy.
According to the Los Angeles Times, Palmer writes in her memoir she was given the shooting schedule for Scream Queens and arranged to do something on her day off. However, on the day she took off, production told her she had to be on set but when Palmer didn’t oblige to fulfill her prior obligation, things got heated.
Palmer wrote in her memoir that she received a call from Murphy in which he “ripped” into her, with the actor adding, “It was kind of like I was in the dean’s office. He was like, ‘I’ve never seen you behave like this.

Just as fans were wondering what happened to Coach on New Girl, Winston was introduced as the new character in the sitcom. New Girl premiered on Fox in 2011 and came to an end in 2018 after seven seasons. The series, created by Elizabeth Meriwether, follows Jess (Zooey Deschanel), a bubbly teacher who, after a bad breakup, moves into an apartment with three less-than-mature men to begin a new life. Jess new roommates were Nick (Jake Johnson), Schmidt (Max Greenfield), and Coach (Damon Wayans Jr.). Winston (Lamorne Morris) joined the group in the second episode of New Girl.

New Girl is definitely one of the most heartwarmingly funny series about friends and love created by Elizabeth Meriwether. The Fox comedy series follows the chirpy and naive Jessica as she moves into a loft with 3 guys who are equally as quirky and weird. New Girl stars Zooey Deschanel, Jake Johnson, Max Greenfield, Hannah Simone, Lamorne Morris, Damon Wayans Jr., Nasim Pedrad, and Megan Fox. New Girl lasted for seven seasons ending its run in 2018, so if you loved the unending optimism, quirky personalities, and a group of young friends trying to find their way here are some similar shows you should check out next.

Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F features unexpected cameos, including Christopher McDonald as an angry golfer. McDonald's role may be a nod to his iconic Happy Gilmore character, Shooter McGavin. Despite the connection, it's likely not a canonical crossover, as McDonald is credited as "Golfer" in the credits.
One of the most surprising cameos in Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F seems to suggest that the movie takes place in the same cinematic universe as a classic Adam Sandler comedy. The SNL skit "The Real Housewives of Disney" parodies both Disney princesses and The Real Housewives franchise impeccably. The skit captures iconic Housewives aspects like taglines, dinner scenes, relationship drama, and interviews in a humorous way. While Lindsay Lohan shines as Rapunzel, some aspects like the Cinderella drinking stereotype and Belle's wealth portrayal missed the mark.

TV crossovers and interconnected universes are the best things when it comes to fandom. But they can be super tricky, for it involves combining separate ongoing storylines into one project. The 76th Directors Guild of America Awards took place on Saturday, February 10 at 7:30 p.m. Pt with Judd Apatow hosting the in-person, non-televised ceremony. These kudos honored the best helmers of the year in movies and television, as voted on by more than 18,000 members of the directing guild. Scroll down for the 2024 DGA Awards winners list in three film and eight TV categories.
As always, the all-important feature film category is one of the most telling bellwethers for the eventual Best Director Oscar. The guild and the academy have only disagreed for Best Director eight times over the past seven decades, with the last three years lining up perfectly for Daniel Kwan & Daniel Scheinert (2022’s “Everything Everywhere All at Once”), Jane Campion (2021’s “The Power of the Dog”) and Chloé Zhao (2020’s “Nomadland”).
This year, just three of the DGA’s nominees also reaped directing Oscar bids: Yorgos Lanthimos...

It’s easy to forget, amid all the cuts and consolidation in the entertainment industry, that Nasim Pedrad’s Chad was one of the first victims of the Zaslav-ification of Warner Bros. Discovery. The TBS sitcom, which stars Pedrad as the self-centered title character, was set to return in April 2022 when it was struck down by the Zas just hours before the second season was scheduled to premiere.
The awkward teen comedy hadn’t exactly captured the zeitgeist when it premiered in 2021; Pedrad’s decision to play a teen boy generated more headlines than any other element of the show, which originally got a pilot order from Fox. The decision to flat-out pull the completed season rather than dump it on streaming was still shocking, and it was hardly the last of its kind.

Exclusive: Roku has begun removing titles including scripted shows Most Dangerous Game starring Christoph Waltz and Slip from Zoe Lister-Jones.
It is the latest streamer to remove titles from its service following similar moves by Paramount+, Disney+, Warner Bros. Discovery’s Max and AMC Networks.
Roku revealed yesterday that it was set to remove some content as part of a cost-cutting drive that also saw around 300 employees laid off. It said that it would take a hit of between $55M-$65M for removing “select existing licensed and produced content from company-operated services on its TV streaming platform”.
The company will, however, continue to order original series and sources note that this process is part of its regular review of programming.
