Alberto Del Rio Vs Cm Punk In Ufc?
WWE.com

Alberto Del Rio spoke to Wrestling Inc this week in the build up to his debut for Hispanic Mma promotion Combate Americas, and was asked if he would consider fighting Cm Punk in the former WWE champion’s Ufc debut. While an ex-wwe champ vs. ex-wwe champ superfight is unlikely – it would interest wrestling fans, but likely alienate a large chunk of the Mma fanbase, and murky the waters for the Ufc in regards to legitimacy.

Del Rio had some interesting things to say about it;

I’ll do it, but they [Ufc] need to offer the right money. The offers I received from all of the organizations are so ridiculous that I didn’t even think about it. It’s really good money for the fighters, because I know what fighters do every time they fight, but I do so well in pro wrestling, why would I do...

8 Possible Mma Promotions Alberto Del Rio Could Succeed In
YouTube

For months, there has been talk about Alberto del Rio, the former WWE champion, currently wrestling under the name Alberto El Patron, returning to the world of Mma, where he competed for years under the name Dos Caras Jr. For Del Rio/Patron/Dos Caras, it would be a homecoming of sorts: he was actually quite successful fighting for real in Japan and elsewhere, running up a 9-5 record, which included a six fight win streak from 2007 to 2010.

Del Rio himself has been very quiet on the subject, but Bellator Mma head honcho Scott Coker did confirm talks with the pro wrestler’s camp, and just a few weeks ago, Bill Goldberg let it slip that he had been offered a kickboxing match against none other than the biggest latino superstar in pro wrestling at the moment.

Although he has been working recently with Aaa, Roh and Lucha Underground,...

Goldberg Offered A Fight Against Alberto Del Rio
Both Bill Goldberg and Alberto Del Rio’s names have come up in recent months tied to various Mma promotions.

For Del Rio, such a move makes sense: as Dos Caras Jr, Del Rio actually had a fairly lengthy run in the Mma world, appearing in Pride, and infamously losing to Mirko Cro-Cop via head kick. Aside from that big loss, however, Del Rio had a pretty solid Mma career, going 9-5 as a pro. He’s still only 37, and after being cut from the WWE, multiple promotions showed interest in him.

Goldberg, the former football player for the L.A. Rams, is a bit more of a longshot. He’s a long-time Mma fan, but at 48, would have to prove that he can even pass the physical to get into the cage. It’s not unheard of: Herschal Walker fought in Strikeforce at that age, and in many cases,...

Alberto Del Rio Talks Heat Up, Likely To Make Mma Return Soon
WWE.com

The rumours around Alberto Del Rio continue to swirl, and it looks as if there are a few more horses in the race to obtain the Mexican pro wrestler’s services in the Mma world. Del Rio, real name Jose Rodriguez, and who fought in Pride and other Mma promotions as Dos Caras Jr. up until 2010, is enough of a name thanks to his status as a former WWE champion to have garnered interest by multiple organizations including Bellator, and now, according to Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer, Glory (the kickboxing promotion currently calling Spike TV home) as well.

Glory could potentially makes things very interesting, as Glory fighters are able to compete in the Mma realm, and recently, Glory fighter Joe Schilling made a successful debut for Bellator Mma, knocking out Melvin Manhoeff in the process. Whether they allow this for Del Rio would likely be dependant...

Alberto Del Rio Bellator Talks Confirmed
WWE.com

After reports surfaced earlier this month about Bellator Mma being interested in signing a few more professional wrestlers to their roster (they already have former Tna Champion, and former WWE superstar Bobby Lashley), one of the most prominent names to come up was that of Alberto Del Rio, the former WWE champion who was released earlier this year for unprofessional conduct.

Del Rio, it should be noted, has a legit Mma background, having fought up until 2010 in Japan’s Pride and Deep organizations, among others, under the name Dos Caras Jr. Using a wrestling base, and fighting in a luchador style mask, Dos Caras/Del Rio compiled a 9-5 Mma record, losing to heavyweight legend Cro Cop, but breaking Kengo Watanabe’s arm in his debut while executing a suplex (yes those sometimes do happen in Mma, though not the way you think of them in pro wrestling...

Alberto Del Rio To Bellator Mma?
WWE.com

A report on Pw Insider has thrown another wrinkle into the story of the sporting world’s reignited fascination with pro wrestlers crossing over to the Mma realm. According to the report, which quotes sources within Spike TV close to Bellator, the promotion is looking at signing professional wrestlers past and present to shore up their talent roster.

The hope is, apparently, that the mic abilities of pro wrestlers will allow them to sell themselves to the fan base, and also create the opportunity for the promotion to create “storylines” going into fights.

Before you roll your eyes over the “storylines” bit, this has been done before. Chael Sonnen was essentially playing a character when he called out other fighters, and got himself into all sorts of “storylines.” Fighters have staged feuds for the sake of ratings, and looking at Bellator in particular, they’ve gone so far...

7 Implications Of Alberto Del Rio And Rey Mysterio Defying WWE
WWE.com

SummerSlam has come to pass featuring Brock Lesnar’s dominating victory over John Cena in the main event contest for the coveted WWE World Heavyweight Championship. However, WWE’s biggest event of the summer wasn’t the only wrestling pay-per-view to take place on August 17th. Nor was it the only one to provide groundbreaking headlines.

Aaa — Asistencia Asesoría y Administración — held their annual Triplemania event at the Arena Ciudad de Mexico in Mexico City. It was the 22nd incarnation of the lucha libre extravaganza which is Aaa’s largest event of the year. Aaa and its stars did what they do best — providing high-flying and high-paced in-ring action.

However, it was what bookended the event that had everyone talking. Recently released WWE superstar, Alberto Del Rio kicked off the show. Now known as El Patron, the Mexican superstar was accompanied to the ring by his father Dos Caras...

10 Shocking Controversies In Alberto Del Rio’s WWE Career
wwe

Alberto Del Rio has been fired by WWE, bringing to an end his five year career in the United States. The reason for his release was described by wwe.com as “unprofessional conduct and an altercation with an employee”, which we’ll cover in greater detail during the course of this feature.

For Alberto though, this was just the latest in a string of controversies that dogged his pro wrestling career. There’s been several other incidents involving the Mexican, and he’s never proved shy when it comes to using his fists. There’s also been problems with his fellow colleagues, tension backstage in the locker room. That’s just he kind of guy Alberto is, intense and passionate. He’s a genuine hardman who competed in Mma during his younger days, he was never going to be afraid of standing up for himself. Those who crossed him...

WWE: John Cena Has Not Had 3,500 Matches
WWE.com

On Monday’s episode of Raw, John Cena told the audience that in his twelve-year WWE career, he’s competed in over 3,500 matches.

I call Saint Paddy’s Day Shenanigans.

Even including his Mexican alter-ego Juan Cena and his time-travelling persona The Prototype, the documented evidence points to about 1,800 WWE matches.

Now, that’s an extremely respectable number. The only active full-time wrestlers that are ahead of him career-wise would be Big Show (2,150) and Goldust (1,925). Even compared part-timers he’s still only lagging behind Kane (2,500), Undertaker (2,175), Triple H (1,900) and Rey Mysterio (1,200 in WWE, 350 in WCW and hundreds more in Aaa). (Who knows how many matches Mexican stars such as Dos Caras Jr/Alberto Del Rio or Mistico might truly have?!)

Cena has already surpassed Hulk Hogan in televised matches (565 vs 462) and if he stays healthy, he could even end up with more documented WWE matches than legends like...

WWE Elimination Chamber: Why Jack Swagger’s Chamber Win Could Be A Good Thing
As we found out Sunday night, Jack Swagger won the #1 Contender for the World Heavyweight Championship Elimination Chamber match. A mouthful, right? It wasn’t so much that I was shocked by it, cause really I was surprised but not shocked. The reason WWE made the move is what makes me wonder. However, it makes total sense when you think about it.

Chris Jericho winning almost certainly meant that Ziggler would be cashing in between now and Wrestlemania 29. We’d see no surprise in it all, which is kind of a problem. Randy Orton winning would make no sense as he has little history with anyone involved in the World Heavyweight Championship mix And we don’t know if he’ll be a heel or face by Wrestlemania time.

Then we get to the two big guys, first Mark Henry. As much as I love seeing people get their ass...
