Laura Dern's 7-Year-Old Drama About Infamous Real-Life Murderer Finds New Success on Streaming
Image
Streaming has given many films a second chance, especially those that didn't make a profit at the box office or didn't get a release at all. Laura Dern's crime drama is among them.

In 2018, Dern starred in Blood Diamonds' Edward Zwick's biographical crime drama Trial by Fire, which was recently released on Netflix. The film was based on Cameron Todd Willingham's real-life case, and used David Grann's 2009 The New York Times article "Trial by Fire" as a base. Now, the movie has found a second life on streaming and has become a hit on Netflix, Tudum reports.

Image
Star Wars: The Acolyte is anything but a limited series. Showrunner Leslye Headland recently shared how many seasons she has envisioned for the Disney+ original series set to premiere on June 4.

In an interview with Collider, Headland was asked how many seasons The Acolyte would need to tell the full story she has envisioned for these characters. "At least three," she said. "At least. I mean, I'd love to keep doing it forever. She revealed that she would be happy to do more than three, adding, "This is my dream job. I'm saying three because I'm hoping they'll allow me to do that, but if I could snap my fingers, it would just be, this is my job until I retire. I actually can't think of a higher creative or career peak than working on Star Wars. So, I really am good. I don't really need to do anything else.

The Acolyte: New Look at Carrie-Anne Moss' Matrix-Inspired Jedi Master Revealed
Image
A new look at Carrie-Anne Moss' Star Wars: The Acolyte character, Jedi Master Indara, has been released. The Acolyte creator Leslye Headland has also opened up about Moss' The Matrix character Trinity serving as inspiration for Indara.

Empire debuted the new Star Wars: The Acolyte image, which shows a close-up look of Jedi Master Indara, who has her green lightsaber ignited and is staring off into the distance, possibly ready to engage in combat with the off-screen individual. The image was accompanied by a quote from Headland, who confirmed that Indara is "very much inspired by Trinity" and that it was a "no-brainer" to cast Moss as the character if it meant seeing "Trinity with a lightsaber." Headland continued, "I personally wanted to see someone who had the highest status you could imagine in a Force-fu fight – somebody that would come in and you immediately would be like, 'Oh, that...

Image
The channel will broadcast out-of-the-box sports like kickball, wiffleball, pillow fighting, sign spinning, and more.

At long last, ESPN and ABC have made ESPN8: The Ocho a permanent viewing option for fans of bizarre and unusual sports. In the past, the worldwide leader in sports has made the “seldom-seen sports” channel a special event to fill in the gaps when sports coverage was especially light, as it did in early August. However, ESPN has officially launched an around-the-clock, free ad-supported streaming TV (Fast) channel that fans can watch on the ABC app or on the ABC website.

The channel is ESPN’s first Fast offering and is available via ABC’s app and website alongside other “unlocked” channels. Inspired by the satirical channel featured in the movie “Dodgeball,” the channel will air unusual sports and competitions not found on traditional ESPN outlets. ‘Transformers: Rise Of The Beasts’ Looks To Roar With $155M+ Worldwide, But Could Get Sideswiped By ‘Spidey’ In U.S. – Box Office Preview
Image
Summer’s tentpole rumble continues this weekend with Paramount’s seventh Transformers movie, Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, which is heat-seeking $155 million at the worldwide box office for its opening frame, $100M of that offshore.

The movie reps a concentrated reboot by the studio of the long-in-tooth robots-in-disguise franchise, which has suffered in latter installments from declining ticket sales. This is the second Transformers movie not directed by Michael Bay after 2018’s Bumblebee (though Bay still produces), and looks to distinguish itself from the fray with its introduction of the robotic animals from the Hasbro franchise. Creed II director Steven Caple Jr. is at the helm and the movie stars In the Heights’ Anthony Ramos and The Deuce and Judas and the Black Messiah’s Dominique Fishback. The pic cost a net $195M co-financed by Skydance.

Rachel Weisz & Alice Birch Interview: Dead Ringers
Image
In her first major television series, Rachel Weisz takes on not one, but two characters. Dead Ringers, a new show from Prime Video, adapts David Cronenberg's 1988 film of the same name for the modern era, replacing Jeremy Irons' twin male gynecologists with Weisz's Beverly and Elliot. The pair are seeking funding for a cutting-edge fertility clinic that will give them total control over their research, but this kind of control could result in them pushing the boundaries of ethics in the medical field.

Alice Birch, who has worked on shows including Succession, Normal People, and Conversations with Friends, executive produces the new series. While Weisz takes on double-duty as the star of the show, the cast of Dead Ringers is full of heavy hitters like Jennifer Ehle, Emily Meade, Poppy Liu, Michael Chernus, and Britne Oldford.

Rachel Weisz takes her double-lead role as twins to a new level of closeness in the first look photos for Prime Video’s upcoming horror series “Dead Ringers.”

The six-episode psychological series, which premieres April 21 on Prime Video, stars Weisz as Beverly and Elliot Mantle, twins whose intimacy exceeds traditional bounds as the siblings share “drugs, lovers and unapologetic desire to do whatever it takes,” according to the official logline. As the pair makes it their mission to modernize women’s health care by challenging antiquated practices, they fall into an morally gray area of medical ethics.

The first-look photos showcase Weisz assuming her double-lead role as Beverly and Elliot conduct their daily lives side-by-side despite moments of isolation when one twin heads into the hospital or the lab or catches up with a romantic partner.

AMC Scraps 61st Street Season 2, Invitation to a Bonfire Adaptation
Courtney B. Vance
The trend of canceling projects in production continues to haunt fans of content providers in the U.S.

According to Variety, the embattled AMC has canceled 61st Street Season 2 and Invitation to a Bonfire.

The cancellations come as AMC is in belt-tightening mode, much like several other companies.

The news for 61st Street comes after production on the second season is completed, which is even more aggravating for fans of the series who invested time in the first season.

As you will likely recall, the drama series was picked up for two seasons when it landed a formal order in 2019.

The first season aired in 2022 but didn't perform as well as expected.

However, AMC shared first-look photos for the second season following the first season finale.

The series starred Emmy®-winner Courtney B. Vance (The People v. O. J. Simpson: American Crime Story, Lovecraft Country), Emmy®-nominee Aunjanue Ellis (When They See Us,...

Daredevil: Born Again: Margarita Levieva & Sandrine Holt join cast of Disney+ series

It still feels a little surreal that not only has Charlie Cox returned as Daredevil in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but that we’re getting a whole new series with Daredevil: Born Again. Deadline announced today that Margarita Levieva (The Deuce) and Sandrine Holt (American Gigolo) have joined the cast of Daredevil: Born Again in what are said to be major roles.

As you might have guessed, exactly who Margarita Levieva and Sandrine Holt are playing in Daredevil: Born Again is being kept under wraps, but Deadline hears that they’ll be playing love interests for the leads. In addition to Charlie Cox, Daredevil: Born Again will also feature the return of Vincent D’Onofrio as Wilson Fisk/Kingpin. Michael Gandolfini (The Many Saints of Newark) also recently joined the cast of Daredevil: Born Again. Margarita Levieva starred in all three seasons of HBO’s The Deuce and also appeared in...

Image
Exclusive: Margarita Levieva (The Deuce) and Sandrine Holt (American Gigolo) are set for major roles opposite Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio in Daredevil: Born Again, Marvel’s upcoming revival series on Disney+, sources tell Deadline.

Written and executive produced by Matt Corman and Chris Ord, the new installment centers on Cox’s title character Daredevil, otherwise known by the name Matt Murdock, an attorney by day and crimefighter by night. D’Onofrio reprises his role as mob boss Wilson Fisk aka Kingpin.

Details about Levieva’s and Holt’s characters are being kept under wraps; I hear they may be playing love interests for the leads. Reps for Marvel, Levieva and Holt declined comment.

In addition to Cox and D’Onofrio, Levieva and Holt join previously cast Michael Gandolfini. The 18-episode season of Daredevil: Born Again is slated to premiere in 2024, four years after the original Daredevil series ended its run on Netflix after three seasons.
