Orion’s ‘Is God Is’ Lands High-Profile Summer 2026 Release in Theaters (Exclusive)
Kara Young at an event for I'm a Virgo (2023)
Is God Is has landed an early summer release date from Orion Pictures, a division of Amazon MGM Studios.

Playwright Aleshea Harris is directing the big screen adaptation of her acclaimed, award-winning stage play of the same name will open in cinemas May 15, 2026. That’s just around the time of the Cannes Film Festival, although there’s no word yet as to whether the movie will make an awards play, although Orion is known as a home for prestige fare.

Is God Is marks Harris’ feature directorial debut, and stars Kara Young (Virgo) and Mallori Johnson (Kindred) as twin African-American sisters who were burned badly as babies in a fire that left them with permanent, disfiguring scars. Now 21 years old, they embark on an epic quest for revenge and, and along the way, confront a charged family history that will push them to extraordinary lengths.

With Starry Cast, ‘Is God Is’ Lines Up 2026 Launch in Stacked Summer Frame
Kara Young
Amazon MGM’s Orion label is positioning Aleshea Harris’ feature debut, Is God Is, for a 2026 theatrical launch, aligning the revenge drama with the studio’s expanded big-screen slate next year.

The film adapts Harris’ Obie-winning play about twin sisters sent by their mother to kill the father who scarred their family, and follows a year of renewed theatrical commitments from the studio, which told exhibitors it plans 14 releases in 2026 and screened early footage at CinemaCon.

Cast includes Kara Young and Mallori Johnson as the sisters, with Sterling K. Brown, Vivica A. Fox and Janelle Monáe in key roles; cameras were rolling by late 2024 under Harris, who also wrote the screenplay. The project now sits alongside a busy 2026 corridor for the studio that already features Masters of the Universe on June 5 and other titles spread through spring and early summer.

If the film does land in the summer corridor, it...

He was slapped with over 50 lawsuits from the time of his arrest. He was recently convicted on two of the five counts brought against him. He was denied bail and continues to remain in jail. According to RadarOnline, this legal mess is allegedly bleeding the rap mogul dry.

Experts told the outlet that Diddy could have amassed a huge amount in legal bills and potential payouts. Per attorney Pete Gleason, Diddy might have already spent “millions” on his defense. He shared, “These lawsuits have the potential to bankrupt Diddy.”

Celebrity financial advisor Devin White told RadarOnline that the lawsuits could also potentially end his...

Now, a new teaser has been released for the third Knives Out mystery movie, titled Wake Up Dead Man, and the brief new look at the film is as ominous as its title.

The teaser, which can be viewed below, is only 12 seconds in length and features no dialogue or music. Instead, the footage focuses on a church and a graveyard. The tolling of a church bell can also be heard, getting increasingly louder before the teaser cuts to black.

P Diddy Was Not a “Control Freak” With Janelle Monáe but Why Did She Leave Bad Boy Records?
Image
Some people weren’t made to follow the beat; they were born to build a symphony. That’s how we’d describe Janelle Monáe. Her story isn’t just about music. It’s about freedom, ownership, and walking out of rooms that probably no longer fit your spirit, even if they once felt like home.

Before P Diddy became tangled in legal chaos and explosive allegations, he was the architect of Bad Boy Records, a label that shaped ‘90s hip-hop and launched careers with a kind of flash-and-flare swagger. He signed giants: The Notorious B.I.G., Mase, Faith Evans, and later, Monáe, who joined in 2006.

But as her sound matured and her vision expanded, Monáe slowly stepped away, without drama, without headlines. Why? That’s the curious part. There’s no declaration. No fallout. Just silence and … speculation. Creative independence? A misfit between vision and branding? Or maybe she just outgrew the room.

Sloan Summit 25: A Look Back at Some of Our Favorite Sloan Grantee Films
Philippe Tlokinski in Adventures of a Mathematician (2020)
With the 2025 Sloan Film Summit just around the corner, we want to look back at some of our favorite films that have been supported in the past by the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation. These films are dramas, science fictions, biopics and big budget blockbusters. Yes, they all have science, math, technology, economics or engineering at their core, and this list goes to show just how much storytelling juice you can get out of those topics.

The films on this list show how universal stories about the sciences can be. We all care about nature, we all look up at the stars and wonder and we all love solving a good puzzle. And that’s what the sciences are all about. Both art and science help you understand the world better, just in different ways, and these films prove what you can do when they come together.

Many of those A-list guests gathered for a group portrait in their custom looks by the American luxury designer as the Thom Browne class portrait has become something of an annual tradition at New York’s Pierre Hotel. Posing in their Monday best were stars of Hollywood, sports, music and fashion including Demi Moore, newly minted Oscar winner Zoe Saldaña, Janelle Monáe, Whoopi Goldberg, Paul Tazewell, Severance star Tramell Tillman, Anok Yai, Walton Goggins, WNBA breakout Angel Reese, Lorde and Philadelphia Eagles Super Bowl champ Saquon Barkley.

Kevin Costner Wanted to Cry While Shooting This Movie and His Hard Work Paid Off With $228.4 Million Earning at Box Office
Image
A man’s got to know his limitations… and still choose to defy them. That line is not from a movie, not yet, but it should be. Because that’s exactly what we thought when we found out Kevin Costner filmed most of Hidden Figures while in pain. No, seriously. While the world applauded his performance as Al Harrison, the no-nonsense NASA boss in the Oscar-nominated drama, the Yellowstone star was quietly fighting off kidney stones and crushing discomfort. He wanted to cry.

Yes, the actor nearly cried while filming Hidden Figures. And not because the script was moving, though it was, but because he was literally suffering in silence, acting his heart out with kidney stones tearing through him.

Met Gala 2025 Photos: Best Of The Red Carpet
Image
Marking the opening of The Costume Institute’s spring exhibition, ‘Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,’ the Met Gala is taking place on the first Monday in May, May 5th, with the dress code “Tailored for You.

Forget trophies and acceptance speeches. At fashion’s most exclusive annual convergence, the true prize is a coveted invitation and the opportunity to command the world’s attention on the red carpet. Only a carefully curated list holds the golden ticket from cultural titans spanning film, the political arena, the music charts, and the pinnacles of power across industries. The night’s sole currency is sartorial impact, measured in the waves of applause and collective gasps. Attendees are challenged to transcend mere attire, transforming themselves into walking exhibitions that interpret the profound legacy of tailoring, particularly within Black style.

AMC Networks Upfront Paints Streaming Future While Pausing On Past Triumphs
Image
AMC Networks extolled some industry conventions – and much of its own library – at a lavish upfront presentation Wednesday night, while also positioning itself as a tech-enabled streaming player.

At a time when a range of upfronts and NewFronts players are either ditching in-person shows or scaling them back, the cable and streaming programmer stepped up at New York’s tony Spring Studios in Tribeca.

“This year, we wanted to go a little bigger, a little broader and a little more expansive in terms of the people in the room and the ongoing conversation,” CEO Kristin Dolan said. Along with ad buyers and CMOs, distribution partners and tech vendors were also in attendance.

“Every media company today is trying to find its own path in a world that looks vastly different than it did five years ago, or even five months ago,” Dolan said. “Our path is focused on the clear...

The Weeknd’s Film Hurry Up Tomorrow Is ‘Raging Bull Meets Purple Rain’, Says Trey Edward Shults
Image
In recent years, the ‘visual album’ has become a part of many a musician’s album cycle. From Beyoncé’s Lemonade, to Janelle Monáe’s Dirty Computer, to Jennifer Lopez’s This Is Me… Now: A Love Story, those projects tend to be lavish, thematic affairs that largely exist as super-sized album-length music videos. Hurry Up Tomorrow is not that. Sure, the latest album from Canadian mega-star The Weeknd – aka Abel Tesfaye – is also called Hurry Up Tomorrow. But his film of the same name, while linked to the album, isn’t a visual album project – it’s a full-on psychological thriller feature film, directed by Waves’ Trey Edward Shults, in which Tesfaye plays an alternative version of himself.

“It’s kinda like Raging Bull and Persona meets Purple Rain,” explains Shults, who wrote the film alongside Tesfaye and Reza Fahim. The film was inspired, in part, by an incident...

AMC Networks’ Upfront Pitch: A New Franchise, More Ad-Supported Streaming, and a Little “Fear”
Image
How do you stand out in a crowded upfront environment that now includes tech giants alongside legacy entertainment companies?

Going early helps, and so is being a bit different. So this week AMC Networks plans to gather its brand marketing partners and clients, and in an unusual twist its distribution partners (think pay-tv companies and other platforms that distribute AMC Networks content), in what it is describing as an “immersive” showcase for its programming.

“We can’t be so assumptive that everyone watches all of our shows, so it’s up to us to really bring them to life and at least ensure that everyone there wants to [watch] when they leave,” AMC Networks chief commercial officer Kim Kelleher tells The Hollywood Reporter in an interview, adding that the company is widening the aperture of who the audience is for an upfront in order to acknowledge the complex nature of content distribution and advertising today.
