Two Sentence Horror Stories creator Vera Miao has set her next project, a horror film titled Rock Springs. She wrote the script and will direct this horror feature, which will star Kelly Marie Tran, Benedict Wong, and Jimmy O. Yang.

The film's plot revolves around a family consisting of a young girl, her mother, and her grandmother, who decide to move to Rock Springs, Wy after the passing of her father. But shortly after their arrival, they find their lives in danger when they discover the town's dark past and that something monstrous lurks in the woods behind their new house.

Kelly Marie Tran, Benedict Wong and Jimmy O. Yang are set to star in “Rock Springs,” a new film from writer-director Vera Miao.

The official logline for the film reads, “A grieving young girl, along with her mother and grandmother, move to Rock Springs, Wyo. after the death of her father, only to discover there is something monstrous hidden in the town’s history and the woods behind their new house.”

Stephen Feder and Kiri Hart for Counterculture; James Lopez, Poppy Hanks and Greta Talia Fuentes for MacRo Film Studios; Matthew Lindner for Juniper Productions; Jason Michael Berman and Jordan Moldo for Mandalay Pictures are all on board to produce the film, which will shoot in Vancouver.

The cast also includes Aria Kim and Fiona Fu. “Rock Springs” represents Miao’s feature debut, after serving as a writer on the Prime Video limited series “Expats” and working as an actress for more than 15 years.

In The Creator, humanity is at war with an artificial intelligence that’s determined to destroy human life, having already dropped a nuke on Los Angeles.

Based on the upcoming book by British-Nigerian author, journalist and hair care educator Tọlá Okogwu, “Onyeka and the Academy of the Sun” tells the tale of a teenager who learns she has powers and travels to Nigeria to learn more about her origins, where she discovers a threat to her newfound magical community.

Described as “Black Panther” meets “X-Men” or “Percy Jackson,” the book is the first in an action-packed series for middle-grade children and will be published by Simon & Schuster in the U.S. and U.K. this June. Okogwu is represented by CAA and Claire Wilson at Rcw Literary Agency.

Titled “True Love,” the new movie is a sci-fi story, set in the near future. Additional plot details, however, are currently undisclosed.

News of the project first broke in Feb. 2020, with New Regency on board to produce and finance the film. Edwards will also produce “True Love,” reuniting with “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” producer Kiri Hart for the new project.

The streamer is developing two TV series and four feature films as part of the slate.

On the TV side, Reverie and Extant creator Mickey Fisher is adapting Firekeeper’s Daughter, the debut YA thriller from Angeline Boulley. The book follows an 18-year-old Native girl as she reluctantly goes undercover in a police investigation on her Ojibwe reservation. Fisher will serve as showrunner and co-write with Wenonah Wilms, the Horsehead Girls writer who is also from the Ojibwe tribe and will also act as exec producer.

Great National Parks is a natural history docuseries that comes from Blue Planet II filmmaker James Honeyborne. The series, which is produced with Wild Space Productions, will explore some of the most wondrous national parks and wild spaces on Earth...

The company is also prepping a U.S. National Parks docuseries and a series adaptation of the Angeline Boulley book “Firekeeper’s Daughter.”
