‘No way we’re changing the title’: ‘Trainwreck: Poop Cruise’ director on creating Netflix smash hit and why a sequel is ‘screaming to be made’
Image
Trainwreck: Poop Cruise is still No. 1 at Netflix after two weeks, and director James Ross isn't surprised. "We knew that we had something quite special with this film," he tells Gold Derby. "I mean, even the title Poop Cruise does jump out from maybe your usual fare. So, I kind of had a sneaking suspicion that this could catch. I'm very happy that it has, and it seems to be doing well." He adds, "It stands out from your normal collection of documentaries that might be out there."

In 2013, the world was enraptured by the story of the Carnival Triumph luxury cruise ship, which stranded 4,000 people without power and plumbing in the Gulf of Mexico after an engine fire. Guests were initially instructed to "go No. 1" in the showers and "go No. 2" in red biohazard bags, but after four days, the raw sewage had become so backed up that it...

‘Trainwreck: Poop Cruise’ smells like an Emmy contender — but not until 2026
Image
In 2013, the world was enraptured by the story of the Carnival Triumph luxury cruise ship, which stranded 4,000 passengers without power and plumbing in the Gulf of Mexico after an engine fire. Guests were initially instructed to "go No. 1" in the showers and "go No. 2" in red biohazard baggies, but after four days, the raw sewage had become so backed up that social media was dubbing it the "Poop Cruise."

Now, Netflix's Trainwreck: Poop Cruise, from director James Ross, is chronicling every gory detail, from the tent cities to the squishing carpets. Warning: you will feel queasy when you get to the “poop lasagna” scene. But will Emmy voters embrace the program next year?

Trainwreck is an anthology docuseries that revisits some of the most gross-out or bizarre news stories of yesteryear, told from the perspective of the people who were involved. The first installment was released in 2022 and explored...

‘Trainwreck: Poop Cruise’: 5 Things We Learned
Image
You can tell a lot about people by how they behave in a crisis. And it’s safe to say the voyage of the Carnival Triumph, better known as the Poop Cruise, was an icky, smelly, particularly grotesque kind of crisis — and that brought out some wild behavior.

It happened way back in 2013, but chances are some of the details are emblazoned in your memory. The Triumph, set to cruise from Galveston, Texas to Cozumel, Mexico, suffered an electrical fire that knocked out the engine and air conditioning. And then,...

Why Jake's Coming Off As The Villain In The Trust: A Game Of Greed
Image
Jake Chocolous's overconfidence and aggressive behavior make him appear as a villain on The Trust reality show. Jake's actions, such as placing himself first and eating in the bathroom, created tension with fellow contestant Julie and lead to divisions within the group. Despite his flaws, Jake admits to liking Julie, and they remain friends, showing that their connection didn't develop into a romantic relationship.

Jake Chocolous from The Trust: A Game Of Greed is an exciting character who comes off as a villain on the show due to his controlling nature. The 37-year-old military contractor was featured on the Netflix reality competition with 10 other contestants who were told they were already winners of $250,000, but the catch was finding out how the trust should be divided among those who need it. The show is similar to The Traitors with a mixture of Squid Game: The Challenge and a little sprinkle of Love Is Blind.

Who Won The Trust: A Game Of Greed Season 1?
Image
In The Trust: A Game Of Greed, contestants competed for money without elimination, forming alliances and betraying each other along gender, racial, and ideological lines. Tolú, Gaspare, Jake, Julie, and Brian all won the grand prize in the finale, sharing the remaining money from the trust. Each finalist in The Trust: A Game Of Greed left the show with $48,600, except Julie who won $63,600, Brian who won $78,600, and Tolú who won $73,600.

The Trust: A Game Of Greed's finale dropped on Netflix, but who went home with the grand prize? As Netflix's answer to The Traitors, contestants competed for money with strangers, but with a twist: no one had to be eliminated. However, as one of the best TV show tropes, this competition show wouldn't let the strangers become one big family. Through trying trust ceremonies and heading to the vault, multiple cast members were brutally sent home. While The Trust...

The Trust: A Game of Greed Puts a Unique Spin on Reality TV
Image
Netflix's new game show, The Trust: A Game of Greed, combines reality TV and competition in a unique and engaging way. The show's premise involves 11 contestants voting to eliminate someone in each episode, with the remaining money split among the remaining cast members. The show focuses on the contestants' personalities and alliances rather than traditional game show dynamics, creating tension and drama throughout the series.

Game shows, and reality TV has become a streaming staple, given their low production value and the use of ordinary people as stars. This has long been the case for Netflix, as they have showcased such absurdities as Is it Cake? and The Floor is Lava, alongside more in-depth competition game shows like Blown Away and The Devil's Plan. Though they may not be the most watched shows on Netflix, these series have proved to be a great success for the platform, with many of them having multiple seasons,...

The Trust: A Game Of Greed Can’t Match The Traitors (It's No Contest)
Image
The Trust: A Game Of Greed falls short compared to reality TV favorites like The Traitors and Big Brother. The gameplay in The Trust lacks strategic depth and contestants can simply choose to share the prize money. The character development in The Trust is lacking, making it difficult to invest in any of the contestants and their stories feel contrived.

The Trust: A Game Of Greed season 1 is a new reality TV series dropped by Netflix on January 10, and while The Trust has elements of The Traitors, it's not nearly as good. The Traitors US season 2 premiered January 12 on Peacock and is a notably popular show modeled after The Traitors UK, also airing its second season. The Trust's release is Netflix's grab at attempting to attract fans awaiting new episodes of The Traitors. While compelling at times, the show simply can't match reality TV stalwarts such as The Traitors and Big Brother,...

How To Watch The Trust: A Game Of Greed Season 1 & When It Premieres
Image
The Trust: A Game Of Greed is a unique reality TV series that combines elements of The Traitors and Big Brother. The first four episodes of The Trust: A Game Of Greed are currently available on Netflix, with new episodes likely to be released weekly. The show offers an interesting social experiment where contestants can choose to split the prize equally, but they ultimately choose competition over cooperation.

The Trust: A Game Of Greed just dropped, and it's time to discuss where and when to watch the show. In what feels like an offshoot of The Traitors franchise, contestants compete for a $250,000 prize with a catch: no one has to be eliminated. Everyone can vote daily to split the money equally and keep everyone in the game. However, it's unsurprising that the players on The Trust: A Game Of Greed season 1 don't make this choice.

Former CNN Newsroom host Brooke Baldwin is bringing her skills to Netflix for its new greed-centric reality competition series The Trust. The eight-part reality series is set to kick off on Wednesday, January 10, and puts eleven strangers at the center of the game which splits a quarter of a million dollars among the players evenly. The question is, will they take their fair share or will the possibility of winning more money divide them? In order to win more money, they’ll have to vote each other out, proving that The Trust is the ultimate test of human nature, as greed and mistrust threaten to destroy relationships made in the game. Ultimately, everyone starts as winners and they can all leave as winners, if they decide to share fair and square. Exclusive: Netflix is taking on The Traitors at its own game. The streamer has ordered The Trust, an eight-part reality series that delves into the theme of greed.

In this game, everyone starts as winners and they can all leave as winners – if they choose to share.

It’s described as a cross between Peacock’s Alan Cumming-hosted hit and Big Brother.

Since 2017, AT&T and the Tribeca Festival have provided financing and support to filmmakers from underrepresented backgrounds through the Untold Stories program, with the winner receiving $1 million, as well as mentorship and guidance, to turn their pitch into a feature film that gets a guaranteed screening at the following year’s Tribeca Festival.

But this year, the 2022 winners, So Young Shelly Yo and Guo Guo, are taking their victory lap even further, becoming the first Untold Stories winners to have their movie, Smoking Tigers, in the festival’s U.S. narrative competition.

“It’s in competition completely on its own merits,” Tribeca Festival director and vp, programming Cara Cusumano tells The Hollywood Reporter of Smoking Tigers‘ breakthrough competition placement. “It was just really an exciting discovery for the team. Don Lemon’s CNN Ouster Was a ‘Business Decision’ and a ‘Long Time Coming,’ Says Exec
Image
Don Lemon’s abrupt firing on Monday just moments after he co-hosted “CNN This Morning” sent shockwaves throughout the news industry and now the reasons behind why CNN gave the anchor his walking papers are coming into focus.

Speculation was rampant both internally and externally Monday as Lemon’s colleagues and media peers wondered why exactly the anchor was fired: Was it the Nikki Haley comments that were deemed misogynistic? The heated interview with GOP presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy? An on-set clash with co-host Kaitlan Collins? Was it the morning show’s low ratings? It was all the above, apparently.

According to insiders, the decision wasn’t related to any one thing but rather a sum of the parts. And it certainly didn’t help Lemon that internal research showed that he was “not working” with CNN’s female-skewing audience in the morning, a network executive told TheWrap.

The exec...

Don Lemon Terminated by CNN After 17 Years
Image
Don Lemon is leaving CNN after 17 years of pushing its boundaries.

The anchor, who had become one of the Warner Bros. Discovery network’s most popular faces in recent years, announced on social media Monday that he had been ousted from CNN.

“I was informed this morning by my agent that I have been terminated by CNN. I am stunned. After 17 years at CNN I would have thought that someone in management would have had the decency to tell me directly. At no time was I ever given any indication that I would not be able to continue to do the work I have loved at the network. It is clear that there are some larger issues at play,” Lemon said. “With that said, I want to thank my colleagues and the many teams I have worked with for an incredible run. They are the most talented journalists in the business,...

CNN Plans to Sober Up Boozy New Year’s Eve Coverage
Image
As 2022 goes out, so too will a recent holiday tradition: During CNN’s broadcast of various New Year’s Eve celebrations, Don Lemon probably won’t be downing shots on camera.

The Warner Bros. Discovery-backed news outlet wants to pare back some of the zany antics that have become a staple of its wee-hours coverage of the last night of the year. While Anderson Cooper will still be able to imbibe during primetime hours — along with his co-host Andy Cohen — while the duo holds forth in Times Square, correspondents and anchors who may have slurped down alcoholic concoctions on camera (or off) in the past will be required to halt the practice.

The network’s coverage of New Year’s Eve was a topic of a town-hall discussion held Tuesday between CNN staffers and Chris Licht, the company’s chairman and CEO. The coming New Year’s Eve broadcast...

Kristin Chenoweth, Kathy Najimy, Linda Perry, Lauren Blitzer and Chely Wright are being announced as the compilers of a forthcoming book that, inspired by (but not limited to) the #MeToo movement, lets women from the entertainment industry and other walks of life describe a crucial point of adversity that propelled them into forward motion for good.

The essay collection, titled “My Moment: 106 Women on Fighting for Themselves,” has been acquired for world rights by Gallery Books, an imprint of Simon & Schuster, and will come out April 26, 2022.

“For so long, women have been silent about things that have hurt them or made them feel ashamed,” says Chenoweth. “I’ve kept my story quiet for a long time, and yes, it was scary to tell, but I’m doing it because I feel so empowered to stand with these incredible girls and women. Fox Buys Clay Travis’ ‘Outkick’ Sports-News Site
Image
After making a business in delivering news with a conservative point of view, Fox Corporation is looking to do the same with sports.

The company has purchased Outkick, the conservative-leaning sports-news site founded by entrepreneur and online personality Clay Travis.

The acquisition was unveiled by Lachlan Murdoch, the company’s CEO, during a call with investors on Wednesday. Financial terms were not disclosed. Outkick, said Murdoch, is a leader “in sports news, and more critically, sports opinion,” and is likely to align with Fox’s core audience.

Travis, a former attorney, founded the site as an extension of his work doing sports columns for CBS, Deadspin and FanHouse. He is known for outspoken, even flip, commentary, and many people who are not close followers may best know him from a CNN appearance in which he was taken off the air by anchor Brooke Baldwin after he made references to female anatomy.

CNN Gets Ready for New Era at ‘New Day’
Image
CNN viewers are going to have to get used to waking up with someone new in the morning.

The WarnerMedia cable-news outlet on Monday launches its “New Day” a.m. franchise into a new era, with Brianna Keilar, who has gained notice over the past year with a take-no-prisoners demeanor on CNN’s afternoon schedule, joining the versatile anchor John Berman. A new executive producer will oversee it all: Eric Hall will guide the action from behind the camera.

“We will play to Brianna and Berman’s strengths — being blunt, being candid,” said Hall in an interview. “Calling a spade a spade.”

Since launching in 2013 near the start of the Jeff Zucker era at CNN, “New Day” has played no small role in pushing morning programs toward a tougher, in-your-face stance. The show’s previous anchors, Alisyn Camerota and Chris Cuomo, didn’t shy from interviews with government executives and...

CNN’s Brooke Baldwin Bids Farewell With An Emotional Speech On Final Show
Image
Brooke Baldwin was only supposed to keep the CNN anchor seat warm for a week. Instead, she lasted 13 years, until today’s final farewell to the audience on her last show.

Baldwin struggled to maintain composure after a brief montage of her CNN moments, then addressed the audience for the final time.

“‘This job using my voice for over a decade has been nothing short of a profound privilege,” Baldwin said. “So to you at home, thank you. Thank you for trusting me. Thank you for holding me accountable. And thank you for all of the love.”

Baldwin announced her leave in February. telling viewers, “There is just more I need to do outside the walls of this place.” But she also hinted in an interview that there were other reasons, calling CNN a “male-dominated network” and noting that its highest-paid anchors and executives are men.” She had expressed some...

CNN’s Brooke Baldwin Urges Women to ‘Speak Up and Keep Pushing’ in Final Sign-Off (Video)
Brooke Baldwin
CNN’s Brooke Baldwin urged women to “speak up and keep pushing” for diversity and equality in her final sign-off from her show on Friday.

“We do need diverse voices telling our stories from in front of the camera and to the executive suites,” Baldwin said. “We are making progress. So, whatever industry you’re in, my parting words: Get a little uncomfortable. Speak up and keep pushing.”

Baldwin first announced in February that she was leaving the network in April. Earlier this month, she revealed there was a gender pay disparity at the network but that “it’s getting better.” “The most influential anchors on our network — the highest-paid — are men. My bosses, my executives, are men. The person who oversees CNN Dayside is a man and my executive producer for 10 years is a man, so I’ve been surrounded by a lot of men,” Baldwin said on Ms.

Don Lemon Refutes Brooke Baldwin’s Claim of Gender Disparity at CNN
Don Lemon
Don Lemon refuted former colleague Brooke Baldwin’s assertion that CNN is male-dominated, saying the network has “plenty of women in positions of power” and maybe the issue for Baldwin was that she didn’t take enough initiative with CNN president Jeff Zucker.

During a “Sway” podcast chat, Kara Swisher asked Lemon who should replace Zucker when he departs the network at the end of the year and whether it should be a woman, given what Baldwin said just before she herself exited the new giant.

“I think we have had women who have run the network. I mean, Janelle Rodriguez ran part of the network,” he said, before adding that his executive producer is also a woman, as is colleague Erin Burnett’s.

“So we have plenty of women in positions of power in the network,” he went on. “Now, at the executive ranks, I don’t know enough...

“The most influential anchors on our network — the highest-paid — are men. My bosses, my executives, are men. The person who oversees CNN Dayside is a man and my executive producer for 10 years is a man, so I’ve been surrounded by a lot of men,” Baldwin said while reflecting on her decade at the network during an appearance on Ms. Magazine’s “On the Issues” podcast.

Baldwin cheered the ongoing diversification of on-air talent and the fact that some CNN divisions, like its digital team, are helmed by women, but cautioned against only accepting white women in leadership roles.

“There’s no way we will have progress if a bunch of white women are winning,” she said. “It’s brown women, Black women, Asian women, it’s across the board.

Cable News Networks Shift To Coverage Of Tiger Woods SUV Crash
Image
As news broke that Tiger Woods was injured in a serious vehicle crash in Los Angeles, cable news networks quickly shifted to nonstop coverage, breaking away from what looked like a day devoted to D.C. politics.

The networks scrambled to book sports reporters and commentators who could talk about the accident, his health history and his impact on the sport. The extent of the coverage reflected Woods’ status as one of the greatest golfers — and athletes — of all time.

“This is a tough guy, a very strong guy…He knows what it takes to endure a significant amount of pain,” sportscaster Jim Gray said on Fox News which, like other networks, provided updates on his condition along with overhead helicopter shots of the neighborhood where the crash occurred, Rancho Palos Verdes, along with shots of the accident scene.

Such breaking news moments often are a bit of an exercise...

CNN Overhauls Daytime, With New Anchors in Morning, Afternoon Slots
Image
CNN shook up its daytime schedule, unveiling a series of changes that will affect both its “New Day” morning program as well as its afternoon programming — the latest in a series of change at the nation’s big mainstream TV news outlets in the aftermath of the 2020 election.

The WarnerMedia cable-news outlet intends to move early-afternoon anchor Brianna Keilar to co-host “New Day” with John Berman, pair morning host Alisyn Camerota with Victor Blackwell in the 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. slot previously led by Brooke Baldwin and feature Ana Cabrera at 1 p.m. weekdays. The moves come as CNN has been working to feature a lineup of anchors from more diverse backgrounds than it has in the past. Internal dynamics played a factor in the decisions as well: Camerota, who has been at the helm of “New Day” for six years, has made known for some time that she...

“After most of my 20s, working my way up in local news, I came to this network in 2008 in the midst of the Great Recession as a freelancer. I remember I scribbled my name on a Post-It note and stuck it on the outside of this temporary office, determined to fulfill my dream of becoming a full-time CNN correspondent. I wanted to be part of the best of the best in cable news and journalism and as a native Atlantan, this would be my hometown team. Little did I know,...

Jeff Zucker Expects to Leave CNN at Year-End
Image
Jeff Zucker, the colorful TV executive who helped breathe new life and relevance into the CNN cable-news network, expects to leave the outlet when his contract lapses at the end of 2021.

The executive told staffers of his decision in a meeting Thursday morning.

“This organization has been through a lot. I’d like to be here to get us all back to a new normal, one that feels much more like it once did around here,” Zucker said during the outlet’s regular morning call among producers, according to people present. “So, as a result, I am going to stay and finish my current contract — which, as I said, will keep me here until the end of this year. At that point, I do expect to move on.” He made his announcement after CNN has enjoyed a noticeable surge in viewership, and recently finished January as the most-watched network in...

How To Watch New Year’s Eve Ball Drop: Livestream & TV Lineups
Image
Times Square in New York will be closed to the public Thursday night for New Year’s Eve celebrations, the first time there won’t be a crowd at the iconic locale on December 31 since the first ball drop in 1907 (the first celebration at One Times Square in Manhattan was in 1904). But in a year in which the entertainment industry has had to adjust to a virtual stage, the show will go on and the ball will still drop at midnight.

Official Times Square New Year’s Eve co-organizers Times Square Alliance and Countdown Entertainment will present a six-hour commercial-free webcast (closed to the public and following New York state health protocols), with Jonathan Bennett returning as host. It will include performances from Andra Day, Gloria Gaynor, the Uso Show Troupe and The Waffle Crew. Other New York-based performers on the night among the various broadcast and cable networks, which...

How to Stream CNN’s ‘New Year’s Eve Live With Anderson Cooper and Andy Cohen’
Anderson Cooper
CNN will bring Anderson Cooper and Andy Cohen together for the fourth year in a row for “CNN New Year’s Eve,” where the two hosts will undoubtedly fill the night reflecting on the insane year that was 2020. Unlike previous years, Cooper and Cohen won’t be surrounded by a crowd crush of people — you can thank the pandemic for that. But they still plan to broadcast their show live from the historic spot as they do every year.

The night will kick off at 8 p.m. Et, and include performances from John Mayer, Snoop Dogg, Patti Labelle, Jimmy Buffett, Carole Baskin, Josh Groban, Leslie Jordan, Dulce Sloan, Desus & Mero, Kylie Minogue, Aloe Blacc, Goo Goo Dolls and Jon Bon Jovi.

If music’s not your thing and you’re feeling a bit of wanderlust, don’t worry — the night will also feature appearances from CNN’s Ana Cabrera, Stephanie Elam,...

No Crowds in Times Square, But CNN’s New Year’s Eve Show Must Go On
Image
When Anderson Cooper and Andy Cohen try to show CNN viewers the sights and sounds of New Year’s Eve in Times Square this year, they will face one of their biggest challenges: There won’t be any.

The throngs of people who come to see the fabled ball drop in what is billed as New York’s “Crossroads of the World” won’t be in attendance, due to concerns about the coronavirus pandemic. For Cooper and Cohen, however, the show must go on.

People at home will want to watch and ring out a terrible year, says Cooper. “We want it to be a New Year’s Eve without all the mishegoss. You don’t have to have all the sturm and drang. You can just stay home and watch us go through it,” he says, in an interview. Besides, says Cohen, “I certainly pledge to get Anderson as...

Brianna Keilar Turns CNN Daytime Into Place for Tough Talk
Image
Brianna Keilar isn’t looking for a fight in the early afternoon on CNN. Sometimes, she gets one anyway.

In recent weeks, Keilar has tilted at Fox News Channel anchor Tucker Carlson in a fact-checking segment about his criticism of U.S. Senator Tammy Duckworth, and appeared to be on the verge of tangling with U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi after asking her if she trusted White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows when negotiating a coronavirus relief package. “That’s not an appropriate question for you to ask,” Pelosi responded. Keilar used tough words with Tim Murtaugh, the communications director of the Trump 2020 Campaign, who kept asking her to “hold on a second” as she questioned him about the administration’s coronavirus policy.

Keilar’s reply: “I can’t hold on a second when you’re not being honest.”

Anyone who keeps pace with the anchor’s program...
