Robert Eggers is considered one of the best horror writer-directors of our time. With movies like The Witch and The Lighthouse behind him, his latest idea to remake Nosferatu had horror fans with high expectations. Exclusive: Gravitas Ventures has acquired North American rights to The Shuroo Process, a comedic drama directed by Emrhys Cooper. The Woodstock Film Festival has announced the slate for its 22nd edition, with 11 world premieres among the 43 features on the bill.

The festival will take place September 29 to October 3 in three Hudson Valley communities about two hours north of New York City. In-person screenings and events will be featured throughout the fest’s five days, but online options will also enable attendees to connect amid the ongoing challenges of Covid-19.

Panels, concerts and comedy sets along with film screenings are planned in Woodstock, Kingston and Saugerties. Neon chief Tom Quinn is slated to receive the festival’s Honorary Trailblazer Award, an honor announced in 2020 but postponed due to the pandemic.

Exclusive: Samuel Goldwyn Films has secured the North American rights to Jacob Johnston’s directorial debut feature, Dreamcatcher, set for a digital and on-demand release in March.

The cast includes Niki Koss (Famous in Love), Zachary Gordon (Diary Of A Wimpy Kid), Travis Burns (Neighbours), Blaine Kern III (The Perfect Date), Olivia Sui (Smosh), Elizabeth Posey (Starz series Heels), Emrhys Cooper, Ben. Written by Johnston, the horror-thriller centers on Dylan, known to his fans as DJ Dreamcatcher, who is on the brink of global stardom. After a drug fueled gruesome event, things begin to spiral into a 48-hour whirlwind of violence and mayhem.

Exclusive: Archstone Entertainment has boarded world sales on Jacob Johnston’s feature directorial debut, Dreamcatcher.

The horror-thriller, currently in post-production, stars Zachary Gordon (Diary Of A Wimpy Kid), Niki Koss (Famous In Love), Blaine Kern III (Happy Death Day 1 & 2), Elizabeth Posey (Euphoria), Travis Burns (Neighbours), and Olivia Sui (Smosh).

Archstone will launch sales at the Efm in Berlin next week.

The film centers on two estranged sisters who, along with their friends, become entrenched in a 48 hour whirlwind of violence after a traumatic experience at an underground music festival.

The film also stars Adrienne Wilkinson (Star Trek: Renegades), Lou Ferrigno Jr. (S.W.A.T), Al Calderon (Step Up: High Water), Emrhys Cooper (Mama Mia), Ben J. Pierce, Ryan Powers and Nazanin Mandi.

Siblings Krystal Vayda and Brandon Vayda produced under their company’s new Ya banner, Quarzo Studios. Jacques Kurdian executive-produced the film alongside Jack Sheehan, Scott Martin and Michael Slifkin. Kristofor Cvijetic and Jaime Gallagher Co-Produced.

British actor Emrhys Cooper has set “The Shuroo Process” with Fiona Dourif as his feature directorial debut. Zachary Quinto (“Star Trek”) is on board as exec producer.

Dourif (“When We Rise”) will play Parker Schafer, a successful young New York journalist. Addled with drugs and alcohol, she heads to a four-day retreat in the Catskills and falls under the spell of charismatic self-help teacher Guru Shuroo, played by Donal Brophy. Her journey of self-discovery has seemingly catastrophic consequences.

An ensemble cast includes Tommy Dorfman (“Thirteen Reasons Why”), Rainey Qualley (“Mad Men”), Hakeem Kae-Kazim (“Black Sails”), and Olivia Sui (“Scream Queens”). Cornelia Guest (“Twin Peaks”), Rachel McDowell (“Mamma Mia”), Taylor Bagley (“Wish I Was Here”), and Lynn Mancinelli (“Bad Frank”) will also appear.

Trafalgar Releasing is reporting a strong box office of $568,000 at 414 North American locations for its one-night screening on Feb. 7 of “The Music Center Presents Joni 75: A Birthday Celebration.”

The film achieved the highest per screen average of all titles of more than 100 locations. “Joni 75” was performed on Joni Mitchell’s 75th birthday with tributes from Brandi Carlile, Emmylou Harris, Norah Jones, Chaka Khan, Diana Krall, Kris Kristofferson, Graham Nash, Seal, James Taylor and Rufus Wainwright.

This release follows in the wake of Trafalgar Releasing’s record breaking screenings of “Burn the Stage: the Movie,” which became the largest ever event cinema release. Other music releases in 2018 included “Coldplay: A Head Full of Dreams” and “Muse: Drones World Tour.”

Exclusive: Diary of a Wimpy Kid star Zachary Gordon, Niki Koss from Freeform’s Famous in Love, and Olivia Sui have been tapped to topline the indie horror thriller, Dreamcatcher, alongside Elizabeth Posey (Gully), Emrhys Cooper (Mamma Mia!) Blaine Kern III (Happy Death Day), and Travis Burns (Neighbours).

Jacob Johnston wrote the script and will helm the film as his first directorial feature. It’s an ensemble piece that follows a group who plan to avenge the mysterious death of their friend at a Music Festival, only to end up stalked by the same assailant.

Filming will commence this month in Los Angeles. Krystal Vayda and Brandon Vayda are producing via their newly launched Quarzo Studios, which will focus on new adult and young adult projects. The Orchard has set a Jan. 29 digital release date for James Balog’s environmental documentary “The Human Element,” Variety has learned exclusively.

Balog uses his camera to reveal how environmental change is affecting the lives of everyday Americans. Following the four classical elements — air, earth, fire and water— to frame his journey, Balog explores wildfires, hurricanes, sea level rise, coal mining, and the changes in the air we breathe. “The Human Element” is aimed as providing inspiration for a more balanced relationship between humanity and nature.

The pharmaceutical drug epidemic in America is a very serious issue. According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse opioid crisis kills 115 people a day from overdose. The opioid crisis has also been a hot topic in the news as of late. The film Altered Perception attempts to use the topic as the focal point of storyline. Not only is the subject a hard pill to swallow, but so is the film.

In Altered Perception the government attempts to produce a designer drug aimed at correcting the false perceptions that people develop during trauma and the stress, the implications are deadly. Advertised as a cure for sociopolitical tensions, four couples volunteer, but end up with much more than they bargain for as their past and present are examined while taking variations of the new drug. However, this causes them to doubt their own memory, perceptions – and even their own sanity.

"You don't seem happy. I'm just worried about you." A trailer has debuted for a charming new film titled Kushuthara, a rare romantic drama from the tiny Himalayan country Bhutan. Historically, the Bhutanese film industry has looked east for inspiration, modelling itself on the films of Bollywood. Kushuthara is one of the first films to be made in a more western style, with a storyline that draws on Buddhist spirituality. Emrhys Cooper, the first western actor to appear in a Bhutanese film, stars with Kezang Wangmo, and Jamyang Jamtsho Wangchuck (who appeared in Seven Years in Tibet). The dialogue is very cheesy, but I must admit there's a charm to it that makes me want to see it anyway. Plus, I totally love the Himayalas. Bank Tangjaitrong’s “Till We Meet Again” follows a disenchanted couple and the separate paths they follow during a quest to find themselves and reawaken their relationship in Thailand. Starring Johan Matton (“Nurse Jackie”) and Linnea Larsdotter (“Indigo”) as Erik and Joanna, the film cuts back between the couple’s past life in New York and their journey in Thailand where they argue and eventually split up. We follow them on their separate journeys as Erik crosses paths with three backpackers and Joanna meets up with a childhood friend, and all the while we learn about who they are and the beginnings of their relationship. Founders Jennifer Blanc-Biehn and Michael Biehn announced on Wednesday they have secured a deal for the Hidden In The Woods remake from Chilean genre specialist Patricio Valladares.

Hidden In The Woods will open at the end of the year via Origin Releasing/eOne.

Kevin and Bradley Marcus adapted the English-language screenplay. Biehn and Blanc-Biehn star alongside William Forsythe, Jeannine Kaspar, Electra Avellan, Chris Browning, Andy Mackenzie, Richard Gunn, Caitlin Keats, Grace Powell and Mark Gantt.

The Girl (UK title Psychopath) will go on release later this year through IndustryWorks Pictures/Origin Releasing and Safecracker Films.

Blanc-Biehn directed the thriller from a script by the Marcuses.

He's played Abe Sapien in "Hellboy," the Pale Man in "Pan's Labyrinth," and the Silver Surfer in the "Fantastic Four" sequel. Now, Doug Jones is set to take on another iconic character.

Jones has scored the title role in "Nosferatu," David Lee Fisher's upcoming remake of F.W. Murnau's iconic 1922 silent German expressionist horror film - considered the first true vampire film ever made.

The original, unauthorized adaptation of Bram Stoker's "Dracula," follows a young woman's supernatural quest to save her true love's soul and the entire world from the shadow of infernal darkness.

The film will boast a mix of live-action elements combined with colorized digital backgrounds recreated from the original film. Emrhys Cooper, Joely Fisher, Sarah Carter and Jake Turner also star.
