Creator R. Scott Gemmill and leading star Noah Wyle are hard at work filming The Pitt Season 2, but they’ve just received some additional reinforcements in the way of a Law & Order: Svu star. Deadline reports that Lawrence Robinson, also known for his roles in Sistas and Tales, has joined the cast of The Pitt Season 2. Robinson will reportedly play Brian Hancock, a sweet, charming patient who comes into Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center with a soccer injury, but turns it into a meet-cute with one of the doctors. It’s unclear which doctor he’ll interact with, or if he’ll appear for more than one episode. The Pitt Season 2 is expected to continue filming for the next few months as it eyes an early 2026 release date, around the same time Season 1 was released earlier this year.

While touting The Pitt‘s 13 nominations on Tuesday, Noah Wyle gave a hint about what to expect in season 2 of the HBO Max medical drama.
In April, executive producer R. Scott Gemmill, EP John Wells and EP/star Wyle appeared at Deadline’s Contenders TV in April and shared that the next 15 hours of The Pitt will take place over a Fourth of July weekend.
Season 2 will pick up 10 months after the final hour of Season 1, which wrapped on April 10.
Of the new season, Wyle tells Deadline, “it’s one of those things where you get in the room and you have a successful first season. Do we go bigger and better and louder and faster? Our job is not to outdo ourselves. Our job is to do ourselves. So think about what worked the first time and do it again. Don’t think about raising a bar on yourself.

Updated: HBO Max’s hit The Pitt earned 13 nominations on Tuesday, including noms for Outstanding Drama and Outstanding Actor for Noah Wyle.
The freshman drama also logged nominations for supporting actress (Katherine Lanasa), guest actor (Shawn Hatosy), directing (John Wells and Amanda Marsalis), writing (Joe Sachs and R. Scott Gemmill), sound editing and casting.
“It’s going to sound trite to say, but I’ve already reaped so many benefits from this show,” Wyle told Deadline Tuesday about being in the Emmy conversation. “It’s been an answered prayer and beyond my expectation that even just being included in the conversation was enough for me. And sometimes you can win by losing, sometimes not being nominated. You can garner a lot of public sympathy and actually it’s better for the longevity of the area of your show. So I was very philosophical about it and thought, I’m happy with whatever comes our way.

After a disappointing update about Season 2, The Pittmakes a major leap on the streaming charts.
Per Flix Patrol, HBO's The Pitt has officially broken through to the top ten overall streaming chart. Although The Pitt currently sits in the number ten spot, it may not be long before it starts overtaking less explosive competition like My Mom Jayne and Snatched, which currently sit in the number seven and nine spots on the list, respectively. The series has a long way to go before it approaches the top of the list, however, as Ryan Coogler's Sinners has maintained the number one spot for more than a week straight.
Created by showrunner R. Scott Gemmill, The Pitt premiered on HBO Max this past January and quickly established itself as the latest hit medical drama. The series, set within the emergency room of the Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Hospital, referred to as "the pitt" by staff,...

"The Pitt" premiered on the soon-to-be rechristened HBO Max in January 2025, and even beyond the show's high-profile star, a big reason for the show's success is its astonishing ensemble cast. Wyle is flanked by small-screen staples like Katherine Lanasa (who plays longtime charge nurse Dana Evans) and Fiona Dourif (daughter of Brad Dourif and a horror icon in her own right), but there are also a handful of excellent newcomers like Patrick Ball, Gerran Howell, Shabana Azeez, Supriya Ganesh, Isa Briones, and Taylor Dearden, just to name a few. Lanasa, Briones, and Dearden sat down with Variety in June 2025 to talk about the female characters on "The Pitt," and Dearden — who, yes, is the daughter of actors Bryan Cranston and Robin Dearden — set the record straight on one thing right away.
"I'm nothing like Mel," Dearden told interviewer Emily Longeretta. "We're both neurodivergent and that's it. We're done."

The Pitt is set to return early next year, but fans of HBO Max's hit medical drama will be devastated to learn that a key cast member will not return. As filming for the upcoming second season is officially underway, it seems a fan-favorite character has been written out of the series. The short turnaround for The Pitt Season 2 will still see most of the cast return, alongside some key new additions.
Per Variety, The Pitt star Tracy Ifeachor will not be returning as Dr. Heather Collins in Season 2. The report claims that the decision came from the creative team to remove the character moving forward. Ifeachor did not leave the series on her own accord, Variety confirmed. It's an unfortunate update for fans of the series, especially those who consider her to be a key element in the main storyline alongside Dr. Michael "Robby" Robinavitch (Noah Wyle). There will be no Dr. Collins in Season 2 of The Pitt. Tracy Ifeachor, who portrayed Dr. Collins in Season 1, won’t be returning for the second season of the hit HBO Max medical drama, Deadline has confirmed.
Dr. Collins is a fourth-year resident at a teaching hospital in season one and will not be at the shift in season two, we’ve learned. The news was first reported by Deadline’s sister pub TVLine.
The confirmation comes one day after Ifeachor posted a slightly cryptic message on Instagram, saying “what a blessing” it was to be a participant on the first season, calling it an “absolute privilege to play Dr. Heather Collins in such a groundbreaking season and piece.” She made no mention of a second season.
Collins suffered a miscarriage halfway through the first season. It’s implied early on that she and Dr. Michael “Robby” Robinavitch’s (Noah Wyle...

Tracy Ifeachor, who played Dr. Heather Collins in Season 1 of “The Pitt,” will not return for Season 2.
Sources tell Variety that the decision was made by the show’s creative team; Ifeachor is not leaving “The Pitt” of her own accord.
Dr. Collins is a senior resident at the hospital who has a close but sometimes strained relationship with Dr. Michael Robinavitch aka Robby (series lead Noah Wyle). She begins the season pregnant, trying to start a family through IVF and without a partner. She tries to keep her pregnancy a secret from her colleagues, then miscarries. Afterwards, she discusses it with Robby in a scene that reveals that they used to be a couple, and that she got pregnant and had an abortion during that time.
Along with Ifeachor and Wyle, Season 1 starred Patrick Ball, Katherine Lanasa, Supriya Ganesh, Fiona Dourif, Taylor Dearden, Isa Briones, Gerran Howell, Shabana Azeez and Shawn Hatosy.

Many medical dramas have attempted to replicate the success of Grey's Anatomy and ER. Many have failed, not coming nearly as close to the popularity that both series reached (with Grey's Anatomy still being renewed for more seasons to this day). They've set the standard, one that's tough to achieve and consists of a combination of great acting, excellent storytelling, and a loyal audience. This year, several medical dramas had close premieres, each vying for the attention of lovers of the genre. While Max's The Pitt has been the most popular, Fox's Doc, NBC's Brilliant Minds, and CBS' Watson have all snagged renewals, too. Netflix's Pulse, on the other hand, has received mixed reviews since its premiere on the streamer on April 3, 2025, and its fate has now been sealed.
According to Deadline, Pulse won't get another chance to prove critics wrong as the Netflix original has been cancelled after one season.

Paramount may be planning a new movie based on Stephen King’s The Stand, but one actor from the 2020 miniseries had a blunt response to the news. Based on King’s classic 1978 novel, the story was first adapted into a four-episode miniseries in 1994.
A later, nine-episode remake, featuring an all-star cast led by James Marsden and Alexander Skarsgård, was released on Paramount+ in December 2020 but received decidedly mixed reviews. More recently, it was announced that The Bourne Identity director Doug Liman had been attached to direct a new film version of The Standfor Paramount Pictures.

It's not often that a medical procedural drama receives high praise in its debut season. Sure, long-running shows like Grey's Anatomy, and classics like ER, are the exception, but both had to start somewhere. Max's (soon to return as HBO Max) The Pitt has found early success in the world of television, becoming critically acclaimed for its writing, filming style, and overall actors' performances. When it premiered on January 9, 2025, the series, with a star-studded cast led by Noah Wyle, garnered so many positive reviews that it sits at a 95% Rotten Tomatoes score. For fans, it felt like forever before they received news about the drama's sophomore season, but the wait is over, as The Pitt has officially begun production on Season 2, with the first details being revealed.

Sources tell Deadline the names and brief descriptions of each character; however, these are always subject to change.

Choi will play Joy, a third-year medical student with strong boundaries and a vast knowledge of medicine that leans toward the macabre.
Hollard will play Emma, a recent nursing school graduate, who some may consider naive.
Iverson will play James, a fourth-year medical student.
From creator R. Scott Gemmill and producer John Wells, The Pitt chronicles the urgent challenges U.S. frontline healthcare professionals face through the lens of the fictional Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center’s emergency department.

There's not exactly a dearth of medical dramas, which makes the success of HBO Max's "The Pitt" all the more impressive. How do you set yourself apart in such a saturated market? Well, it turns out the answer is just to show people what it's actually like to be a doctor. Turns out the "drama" part of the medical drama is ready-made, especially when it comes to emergency medicine. With "The Pitt," show creator R. Scott Gemmill and his fellow "ER" alums John Wells and Noah Wyle set out to showcase that drama in as realistic a way as possible, knowing that the profession itself provided more than enough conflict, tragedy, and intrigue.
After it debuted in January 2025, "The Pitt" was immediately praised for its remarkable medical accuracy. It helps that "The Pitt" has a secret weapon in the form of a medical advisor who never let the cast and...

The stars of The Pitt are together again!
Noah Wyle joined co-stars Gerran Howell, Shabana Azeez, Tracy Ifeachor, Katherine Lanasa, Isa Briones, and Fiona Dourif at the For Your Consideration Event for their hit HBO Max series on Wednesday (May 29) held at the Warner Bros. Studios in Burbank, Calif.
The Pitt follows emergency room doctors over the course of one shift, has a different approach. Because each hour of the shift is one episode of the season, we don’t get to see characters develop relationships over time. Instead, they have pre-established relationships within that 15 hour shift that play out for the viewer.
Season 2 will follow this same format – with each episode being one hour of that ER shift. The second season will take place over July 4 weekend with a confirmed 15 episode count.

The Pitt gave a shot of adrenaline to FYC season on Wednesday with a special set visit for Emmy voters, followed by a screening of the Season 1 finale and a panel with Noah Wyle (Dr. Michael “Robby” Robinavitch and an executive producer), Shabana Azeez (Victoria Javadi), Fiona Dourif (Dr. Cassie McKay), Katherine Lanasa (Nurse Dana Evans), Tracy Ifeachor (Dr. Heather Collins), Isa Briones (Dr. Trinity Santos), Gerran Howell (Dennis Whitaker), R. Scott Gemmill, and John Wells (executive producer).
During the group Q&a, it was confirmed that Season 2 begins filming "next month" on the Warner Bros. lot. While the cast and producers couldn't speak much about the new episodes, Wyle did tease the plot with 12 words: "Fourth of July. 250th anniversary of America. Big holiday weekend. Busy shift." Hmm, let the fan theories commence!
Gemmill joked that, for Season 2, he pitched an "evil twin" reveal at a "furry convention" in Pittsburgh during Independence Day.

Season 2 of Max's hit medical dramaThe Pitt will be with us in 2026. The sophomore season is gearing up for production and will bring back a face that viewers missed in the later episodes of Season 1. Tracy Ifeachor played Dr. Heather Collins in the 15-episode season, but as something unfortunate unfolded in her life, Dr. Collins had to leave before the shift ended. However, the show established in the eleven episodes she was present that she and Dr. Robby (Noah Wyle) had a romantic past and might still be attracted to each other. Ifeachor talked to Us Weekly about the much-anticipated season, saying that "there is going to be an amazing cast in Season 2 – just as there was in Season 1." The actress teased "lots of surprises to come," especially regarding Robby and Collins' relationship.
“I’m not a [plot] ruiner," Ifeachor said when egged on for more information. "I’m not even...

There's a tremendous irony in one of the year's most popular streaming shows being a medical procedural that would feel right at home on cable television. I don't mean this as a slight; far from it, actually. There's a good reason why "The Pitt" was able to maintain its watercooler momentum over the past 15 weeks. In addition to the series being able to scratch that "ER" itch, the real-time hospital drama is an excellent example of economic storytelling that also evoked shades of "M*A*S*H*."
With such a sprawling ensemble to its name, it would be all too easy to lose track of these characters and their many cases, but "The Pitt" boasts an incredible cast in which everyone gets their moment to shine. One of the more surprising performances is that of Isa Briones as Dr. Trinity Santos, a fourth year medical student at Pittsburgh Medical Trauma...

The Pitt, Max’s high-octane, real-time medical drama that took streaming by storm earlier this year, is making a fast and furious leap to linear TV. Warner Bros. Discovery officially announced during its 2025 upfront presentation that the show will air on TNT this fall — giving audiences who missed its initial streaming run a second chance to experience the series ahead of Season 2. But it's not just a case of recycling a greatest hit for the people at the top, as according to Warner Bros. Television Group and U.S. Networks CEO Channing Dungey, this is part of a bigger plan to “eventize” content from Max across the company’s linear platforms, treating shows like The Pitt as the must-see television they are.
“When we put Max programming on the T-nets, we want to make sure that we’re telling the audience, ‘This is something special, you want to tune in for this.

As expected, a second run of Max’s (soon to once again be “HBO Max’s”) smash freshman medical series “The Pitt” will make its way to TNT this fall, exposing the drama to linear viewers who perhaps haven’t caught it quite yet on streaming.
The TNT run of “The Pitt” is meant to serve as a bit of a snack for viewers in preparation for Season 2 of the series. Channing Dungey, chairman and CEO of the Warner Bros. Television Group and US Networks, announced the news on Wednesday during her portion of the Warner Bros. Discovery 2025 upfronts — along with the rest of her early plans for the networks, which she added to her oversight in January.

That includes a special presentation of the Horror Queer’s Podcast; a live commentary of Scream 3 in which the hosts will finally settle the score: are Gail Weather’s bangs really that bad?
“We couldn’t be more honored to discuss the most misunderstood entry in the Scream franchise. It’s been such a joy to watch Scream 3’s reappraisal and reclamation over the past several years, and we only hope we can do the film justice. An enormous thanks to the...

Once upon a time, the phrase “nepo baby” was seen as derogatory.
Coined by combining the words “nepotism” and “baby,” it means the subject is a child of influential people in an industry and has (allegedly) benefited from these connections.
Nepo babies who wanted to go into the same field as their parents would go to great lengths to hide their privilege. Some would even change their names to avoid outing themselves.
(Fabio Lovino/HBO)
The name is still not a term of endearment to some extent, but a current crop of nepo babies is challenging this stigma.
The actors in this list have proven that being the child of a talented performer should not be used as a metric to discount someone, and everyone should be judged by their work.
This list focuses on their work on television, but some have ventured beyond the medium and are killing it in music and film.

Spoiler Alert: This story contains spoilers from “Through the Valley”, the second episode of “The Last of Us” Season 2, now streaming on Max.
Kaitlyn Dever delivered a chilling, emotionally devastating performance in Sunday night’s episode of HBO/Max’s “The Last of Us,” immediately propelling her into the center of the Emmy conversation. The acclaimed actress was featured prominently in what may be the season’s most talked-about hour, and has industry insiders debating about her category placement ahead of the official submission deadline.
Variety has learned exclusively that Dever qualifies for the guest actress in a drama series category, as she appears in fewer than 50% of the season’s eligible episodes. However, a final decision has yet to be made. HBO/Max awards strategists, along with Dever’s team, are still weighing whether to submit her in guest actress, where she would compete against co-star Catherine O’Hara, or...

Max’s medical drama The Pitt quickly became a phenomenon in the first part of 2025. It has generated Emmy talk, especially for its star Noah Wyle, formerly Dr. John Carter on ER. But you can’t binge the first season without noticing a few soap connections in the form of alums from Another World, Days of Our Lives, and One Life to Live.
About The Riveting Series
What makes The Pitt standout isn’t just the A+ performances from the likes of Wyle (Dr. Robby), Shawn Hatosy (Dr. Abbott), Katherine Lanasa (Dana), Tracy Ifeachor (Dr. Collins), and the rest of the cast. It’s the show’s format that really sucks you in. The entire 15-episode season consists of one shift at the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, teaching hospital at the core of the show. This means each episode makes up one hour of said shift.
Needless to say, each hour is intense and involves life-and-death situations.

The talented cast of “The Pitt” includes a number of actors whose parents are also in the business. While Taylor Dearden and Fiona Dourif might, technically be considered “nepo babies,” they have more than proven themselves to be as hardworking as their emergency room characters in the hit drama on HBO’s Max.
Here is who’s related to who and where else you might have seen them before this. Some, like Dourif and Isa Briones, who plays Trinity Santos, have even acted alongside their famous family members.
Taylor Dearden
The 32-year-old actress, who plays resident Mel King on the series, is the daughter of “Breaking Bad” star Bryan Cranston and actress Robin Dearden, whose TV credits include appearances on “Murder, She Wrote,” and the soap opera “Generations.” She previously starred on Netflix’s “American Vandal,” MTV’s “Sweet/Vicious” and Apple’s “For All Mankind.”

The Pitt just completed one of the more impressive opening seasons of any television show in recent memory.
It was dramatic. It was gripping. It was poignant and at times funny and it at least should catapult Noah Wyle to the head of the Best Actor Emmy Award race.
Seriously. Go watch all 15 episodes if you have not already.
(Max)
In the wake of such success, Max hasn’t simply renewed the medical drama for a second season — it has already revealed a few The Pitt spoilers for what fans can expect from upcoming episodes.
For one thing? They will premiere in January.
The streaming service seems well aware of the gigantic hit it has on its hands and has said it plans on airing new episodes every single year for as long as The Pitt has the green light to air them.
No lengthy, interminable hiatuses for this fantastic show.
