Rachel Riley has been made an MBE in the New Year Honours list for her efforts in raising Holocaust awareness and combatting antisemitism.
The Countdown star and mathemetician, whose mother is Jewish, has been honoured for her services to Holocaust education as an avid campaigner.
Riley was a vocal critic of Labour’s handling of alleged antisemitism within the party and Jeremy Corbyn’s conduct while leader.
The 36-year-old Oxford University graduate took over from Carol Vorderman as co-host of Channel 4's Countdown in 2009, after Vorderman stepped down from the role she had held since the show began in 1982.
Her tenure as the resident number cruncher, beginning when she was just 22, has seen her work alongside presenters Jeff Stelling, Nick Hewer, Anne Robinson and Colin Murray.
In January 2019, she made a speech at a Westminster reception for the Holocaust Educational Trust addressing the abuse she received on social media as a public figure.

Countdown fans are braced for the imminent debut of Anne Robinson as the show’s host this summer, with every man and his dog certain that she’ll take to it like a duck to water. With her previous form on Watchdog and The Weakest Link, sharp wit and even sharper tongue, it’s looking a safe bet. However, it could be argued that her predecessor, dear old Nick Hewer, isn’t the hardest act to follow, despite doing a grand job for nearly a decade. Others certainly didn’t have it that easy, with fans aghast at their appointments. So here’s five who not only overcame impossible odds in the hotseat, but almost ended up making the respective shows their own.

The next seven days are just bursting with quality television, with almost too many of our telly favourites making a triumphant return.
The Apprentice, The Walking Dead, Tfi Friday and The Returned are all back - and that's just the start. Make sure to tune in, or set your DVR, for this little lot.
1. The Apprentice - Wednesday / Thursday, 9pm on BBC One
Lord Sugar's search for his next business partner... begins. A new roster of budding entrepreneurs are looking to impress Shugs, Karren Brady and - replacing Nick Hewer - the formidable Claude Littner. And as ever, there's some prize berks among them.
One candidate even compares himself - without a hint of irony - to Martin Luther King Jr. We predict his dream of business success might not come true.

Claude Littner doesn't ''tend to get emotional about anything''. The 'Apprentice' star - who has replaced Nick Hewer as Lord Alan Sugar's right-hand man on the upcoming 11th series - insists he didn't get attached to any of the candidates hoping to win a £250,000 investment, despite observing them every day for a number of weeks. It's almost time again for Lord Sugar's close-up: The Apprentice, half-arsed business simulator and all-round highlight of the TV calendar, is fast approaching. But what can you expect when it returns for its (*checks watch*) 11th series? And will the contestants still be giving 110%?

But that's not all, because we'll be treated to a second episode the next day on Thursday, October 15 at 9pm. Start getting your snacks ready now.
Is Lord Sugar back?

Would I Lie to You? returns tonight for more fibbing and funniness. The show (one of the best panel shows on TV, incidentally) always makes it onto our must-watch list, but we're always wondering whether it can beat its high point.
Yes, four years ago in 2011, the first episode of the show's fifth series made us laugh our heads off, and nothing since has quite managed to live up to it.
That's right: we're talking about the cuddle jumper.

Lee Mack nominating Nick Hewer to get into the jumper with Rob Brydon. "I'd prefer not to," Nick says tactfully. "We'd all prefer not to," Lee replies.
Rob making the terrible joke: "I know you've not done it before. Think of yourself as a bit of an Apprentice with this."

Police found the body of the businessman after being called to a home on Central Promenade in Douglas on the Isle of Man at 9am this morning (Thursday, July 30).
Past Apprentice candidates and fans of the show have been expressing their shock and sadness this afternoon, with Lord Sugar describing Baggs as "one of the standout characters" on the show.
A police statement read: "Police can now confirm that the man is Stuart Mark Alden Baggs, 27 years of age.
"Police confirm that at this time there is nothing obvious to indicate the cause of his untimely death and enquiries will continue.
"The police request that consideration is given to the privacy of the family and friends at this difficult time."

Alex Horne spent a whole year setting silly tasks for his mates for an hour's worth of fun at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2010 and 2011. Now, he's bringing Taskmaster to TV with the help of Greg Davies and Dave.
The award-winning comic will sit aside Davies in the comedy game show. "I'm sort of the Nick Hewer to his Alan Sugar," he told Digital Spy. Frank Skinner, Tim Key, Romesh Ranganathan, Roisin Conaty and Josh Widdicombe will be the unfortunate stars who have to endure their crazy ideas.
"It was entirely meant to be a bit of fun, I quite like doing an extra show while I'm up in Edinburgh because I think it's such a good chance to do something with other comedians," he said. "Someone did say after 'ooh that would work well on telly', and I didn't really think they were right, because telly normally can take the fun out of something,...

It must be quite the Countdown conundrum when you realise you've got a high-scoring word, but it's one that's going to make Nick Hewer blush.
Myleene Klass wasn't fazed, though. The radio presenter would have won eight points for her glorious "gobshite".
The former Hear'Say star giggled as she told host Hewer: "I got a rude one. It's an eight... gobshite."
While Rachel Riley sheepishly put the letters in place, Dictionary Corner expert Susie Dent confirmed that it was allowed.
Dent told viewers that "gobshite" was "chiefly Irish" and "vulgar slang". So, there you go.
Myleene's crass word came just a week after Riley had to spell out the word "erection", which also won eight points, on the Countdown board.
Meanwhile, Channel 4 has announced that 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown will return for a new series in May, including special guest Joey Essex.

It's official - interviewer from hell Claude Littner will replace Nick Hewer as Lord Sugar's advisor on the next series of The Apprentice. That noise you hear? It's candidates running screaming from that lavish house.
Because yes, Claude is scary. Very scary. We've lost count of the number of times we've sat on our sofa, chewing our fingernails off and sweating buckets as we watch Claude interrogate the hopefuls who've made it to the interview stage of the competition, destroying not only their CVs but also their dreams. Read on for just nine times we wanted to die watching him...
1. James McQuillan (series 5): "You're trying to defend what's frankly indefensible"
Well, James made the mistake in his CV of writing: "In a nutshell, I put a leash on people who spunk money up the wall." Claude wasn't going to have any of that kind of naughty language - goodness me no.

The candidates on the next series of The Apprentice better get prepared, because Claude Littner has been confirmed as Lord Sugar's new advisor.
The famously tough businessman will replace Nick Hewer in the show's upcoming eleventh series, it was announced on Monday (April 27).
He will join Karren Brady to watch the hopeful candidates as they take part in the tasks, before reporting back to Lord Sugar about their successes - and, more likely, their failures.
"If the candidates think I am soft and fluffy, they haven't been watching me on The Apprentice over the past decade," Littner said.
"I will now be assessing their performance in the process, individually and within their teams. I will be reporting to Lord Sugar to play my part in ensuring that his personal investment of £250,000 goes to the best candidate. I'm ready, and this won't be a walk in the park!"

Claude Littner is replacing Nick Hewer as Lord Alan Sugar's advisor on 'The Apprentice'. The BBC has announced that the formidable businessman - known for his severe interviewing strategy - will be taking over from Nick, following the 71-year-old star's decision to step down from the role in December 2014 after ten years as Lord Sugar's aide. Claude will join Karren Brady at Lord Sugar's side, and has promised he won't let it be ''a walk in the park'' for this year's candidates. He said: ''If the candidates think I am soft and fluffy, they haven't been watching me on 'The Apprentice' over...
