If you are looking for proof as to why Gerard Butler is the undisputed king of modern trash cinema, look no further than the "Has Fallen" franchise. The films -- "Olympus Has Fallen, "London Has Fallen," and "Angel Has Fallen" -- are modern-day throwbacks to the politically incorrect action fare of yesteryear, with Butler's Secret Service agent, Mike Banning, blasting and stabbing his way through terrorists while protecting the President of the United States. A fourth film, "Night Has Fallen," is currently in the works, but the franchise has also expanded into the world of small-screen entertainment with a spin-off set in France.
"Paris Has Fallen" doesn't feature Butler's one-man army, but it's still an entertaining, violent thriller that will appeal to fans of the film saga. The story follows Vincent Taleb (Tewfik Jallab), a protection officer to France's Defense Minister, and Zara Taylor (Ritu Arya), an MI6 agent,...

With only one year under her belt as Studiocanal’s executive managing director of TV series, M-k Kennedy, who joined from Netflix, is leveling up the scripted ambitions of the French pay TV group’s production arm.
After spearheading Studiocanal’s first in-house international series, “Paris Has Fallen” — which broke rating records on Canal+ and topped the charts on Amazon U.K. and Hulu in the U.S. — Kennedy reveals to Variety that the highly anticipated second season of the anthology, “Apollo Has Fallen,” has started filming. Rather than taking place in a single location, the eight-part series will hop from country to country, unfolding everywhere from the Libyan coast to the streets of Madrid, with principal photography taking place across the U.K., Marta and Spain. The series is produced by Studiocanal, Urban Myth Films, Millenium and G-Base, who were also behind “Paris Has Fallen,” which sold to more than 170 territories worldwide.

The Has Fallen franchise built for itself a reputation for showcasing the destruction of cities with a ting of political intrigue and one man at the center of it, Gerard Butler's Agent Mike Banning. After three sagas, the franchise decided to try its hands on a television spinoff show with Paris Has Fallen in 2024. Created by Howard Overman, the Canal+ original political drama details the journey of a protection officer teaming up with an MI6 operating team in the aftermath of a terrorist attack which only leads down a hole to a larger conspiracy. Following a successful first season, Paris Has Fallen secured a second season which has received a major update.

The Has Fallen series, which was spun off of the Gerard Butler movies — Olympia Has Fallen, London Has Fallen and Angel Has Fallen — will be getting a new season as confirmed by Canal+. The debut season, which was titled Paris Has Fallen, brings a lot of what made the movies successful to the show. Our own Alex Maidy says in his review, “Paris Has Fallen mines so much familiar territory covered in the feature films as well as countless other action shows on the small screen, but it does it with three charismatic leads who seem to be having a blast kicking ass through the City of Lights.”
According to Deadline, Canal+ CEO Maxime Saada confirmed the second season of the Has Fallen TV series in a statement made for Canal+’s preliminary full-year 2024 results. Saada said, “Studiocanal‘s first-ever global TV series Paris Has Fallen, based on the successful Has Fallen film franchise,...

Paris Has Fallen, the Hulu television series spinoff of Gerald Butler's hit movies, sets a new record for the action franchise. Hulu landed the U.S. rights to Paris Has Fallen in October, with episodes debuting in December. The story centers on Vincent Taleb (played by Tewfik Jallab), a protection officer to a French Minister. The French official becomes the target of a terror group, causing Vincent to work with MI6 operative Zara (Ritu Arya) to keep the politician safe. But it's not long before a deeper conspiracy is uncovered, threatening the city of Paris itself.
Paris Has Fallen has the best Rotten Tomatoes score of any entry in the Has Fallen franchise, currently sitting at 86% based on 7 reviews. The score is likely to fluctuate as more reviews are added, though the score is relatively high with only one review leaning negative so far.

Gerard Butlers Has Fallen series has become an unexpected blockbuster action franchise, and its next installment will shake up the series in one significant way. The series began in 2013 with Olympus Has Fallen, best described as Die Hard in the White House. Butler plays a disgraced Secret Service agent named Mike Banning, who scores a chance at redemption when hes the last line of defense during a North Korean-led guerrilla assault on the White House. The movie was a big enough hit for the studio to launch a franchise, with each sequel pitting Banning against a different political threat.
The first sequel, London Has Fallen, released in 2016, sees Banning protecting the U.S. President when terrorists attack the British Prime Ministers funeral and the whole city descends into chaos. The threequel, Angel Has Fallen, released in 2019, sees Banning racing to clear his name when hes framed for a drone strike on the President.

Prime Video's The Boys recently concluded its fourth season with a deeper, irreverent exploration of what a world full of superheroes would really be like. It uses the concept of superpowered individuals to skewer the most toxic parts of nerd culture and corporate media. The fifth and final season most likely wont premiere until 2026 according to Variety, creator Eric Kripke stated the final season is currently being written and wont begin filming until November 2024. So, viewers will have to wait for more of its signature brand of satire, wild, gross-out comedy, and unique characters. While fans wait for The Boys Season 5, they should check out Future Man, created by Howard Overman, Kyle Hunter, and Ariel Shaffir. In case those comparisons weren't enough, Future Man also just so happens to be another series produced by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg.

Supacell is a British superhero series heading to Netflix in June from Rapman, and here’s the trailer.
While America generally has the monopoly on superhero films, Britain has had its fair share of caped crusaders over the years.

Is this now an age of TV caution? A brace of big swings at this week’s London TV Screenings belie that trend, and few come bigger than the English-language action thriller “Paris Has Fallen,” which Studiocanal launches at this week’s London TV Screenings.
Like other major Ltvs plays, it takes a mainstream genre – such as, elsewhere, the historical drama (“Wolf Hall: The Mirror and the Light”), true crime (“A Cruel Love: The Ruth Ellis Story”) and the bio – and aims to elevate them to another level.
This is Studiocanal’s biggest TV production of 2024. “‘Paris Has Fallen’ has ambition, scale and production values that I haven’t see in so many series,” says Anne Chérel, EVP global sales and distribution at Studiocanal.
Such scale comes with its backers. Produced by London-based Studiocanal production company Urban Myth Films (“War of the Worlds”), Studiocanal and Millennium and Butler’s G-Base,...

It would appear that the King of Modern Trash Cinema™ is on his way to becoming the King of Modern Trash Shared Universes: Deadline is reporting that Gerard Butler's "Has Fallen" franchise is headed to the small screen, even as a fourth movie centered on Butler's Secret Service Agent Mike Banning continues to move forward.
The Scottish thespian and "300" actor -- whose many, many B-movie credits include "Law Abiding Citizen," "Den of Thieves," and this year's marvelously-titled "Plane" -- made his debut as Banning in Antoine Fuqua's "Olympus Has Fallen." Fuqua's modestly-successful action flick pitted Banning, a U.S. government agent haunted by a past failure on the job, against a North Korean-backed attack on the White House, making it one of two "Die Hard" riffs set in the Oval Office that released in 2013 (with the other being Roland Emmerich's arguably superior "White House Down...

An update has come in on the future of the Has Fallen franchise. After three feature films — Olympus Has Fallen, London Has Fallen, and Angel Has Fallen — the franchise is set to make the transition to the small screen for its next installment. Deadline reports that filming is slated to soon start for Paris Has Fallen, a TV series set in the Has Fallen universe. Reportedly, the plan is to start filming in London and Paris on May 30, 2023. The series will be shopped to the U.S. and UK buyers by StudioCanal in the coming months, so it's not yet clear where it will land just yet in those territories.
Paris Has Fallen will be introducing a new protagonist. It's noted in the new report that franchise star Gerard Butler isn't officially attached to the project at this time, but the actor "could make a cameo." The series will be led by Mathieu Kassovitz.

The spiritual successor to the classic action film franchises of yesteryear will live on as a TV show. The Has Fallen series, which includes Olympus Has Fallen, London Has Fallen, and Angel Has Fallen, all having starred Gerard Butler, is set to have a television adaptation titled Paris Has Fallen. The show is already due to start its production at the end of the month, according to Deadline. Principle photography will take place in London and France, starting on May 30.
The series will not have Gerard Butler as the star, although there is no ruling out any cameos, especially since Butler will be a producer on the project through his production company, G-Base. Instead, French filmmaker and actor Mathieu Kassovitz will be starring in the action vehicle. According to the synopsis from Deadline, “Kassovitz will star as Vincent, a protection officer to a French Minister, who is the target of...

Get ready to praise the Wicker Man again, because the terrifying 1973 film is coming to television. A series adaptation is currently being pitched to broadcasters across the United Kingdom, according to Deadline. Actor and director Andy Serkis will help bring the show to life as a producer alongside Jonathan Cavendish through their Imaginarium production company. Howard Overman, who created the BAFTA-winning series "Misfits," will serve as the series writer.
"[Overman has] created a bold, shocking, and unique series," wrote Cavendish in a statement, "pulling the themes and terrifying power of the original Wicker Man into a thrilling modern setting."
Details on what will remain and what will be changed for this adaptation are being kept under wraps. However, Overman teased that this modern-day version will still "explore the same themes of sacrifice, superstition, and ritual that were at [the original movie's] core."

Back in 1973, director Robin Hardy and screenwriter Anthony Shaffer brought us the horror classic The Wicker Man (watch it Here), which was inspired by David Pinner’s 1967 novel Ritual. In the decades since, The Wicker Man has inspired the likes of Edgar Wright’s Hot Fuzz, received a “spiritual sequel” called The Wicker Tree, and had its good name sullied by the 2006 remake directed by Neil Labute and starring Nicolas Cage. Now it’s set to get the TV treatment. Deadline reports that a The Wicker Man TV series is in development at the Studiocanal-backed company Urban Myth Films and Andy Serkis and Jonathan Cavendish’s company The Imaginarium.

Warning: contains major spoilers for War of the Worlds season one.
The first thing to remember about Howard Overman’s moodily atmospheric War of the Worlds is that if novelist H.G. Wells were here today (and had the required TV streaming package), he probably wouldn’t recognise it as his story. Aside from an alien invasion that wipes out much of Earth’s population, the TV drama had little crossover with Wells’ novel. Instead of tripods with heat rays, it had cyborg dogs with machine gun heads. Instead of a solitary journalist wandering around Woking, it had a large cast of scientists, soldiers, teenagers and others, spread across the UK and France. Instead of dealing with themes of colonial imperialism, it was mostly about family and loss. And instead of red weed-spreading Martians it had… well, that’s the question. Ahead of season two’s arrival on Epix in the...

Set in the very near future where scientists have discovered a method of matching people with their perfect romantic fit using DNA, eight-part Netflix Original The One is technically a sci-fi drama. Really though, it’s a crime thriller revolving around the murky circumstances in which the cash cow company behind the matching service was created. Written by Misfits and Crazyhead creator Howard Overman, The One is based on the 2017 novel of the same name by John Marrs. It's not part of an ongoing series of books at the moment, unlike other TV shows adapted from books, which also would seem to work against it having more than one season. If there were a second season, the writers would pretty much need to...
