Elias Voit might be a transformed man (we hope this is the case for real), but his minions are still running rogue in Criminal Minds: Evolution. Zach Gilford, the actor who has so compellingly brought the deranged character to life since the reboot's inception, has revealed he will help steer Voit's arc this season, behind the scenes. Gilford is set to direct an upcoming episode of the crime procedural, but this won't be his first time performing off-screen duties on the series. Gilford first directed Season 2, Episode 8, "North Star," parts of which centered around the Bau unraveling further details about Voit's sinister Sicarius network.
Several episodes later, the activities of the deadly network continue to keep the Bau busy, even though their leader has now seemingly turned a new leaf. The previous episode, "The Brutal Man," sees Gilford agreeing to work with the Bau to crack down on every last member of the network.

All good stories must come to an end. Peacock has trimmed its original programming, canceling Based on a True Story after two seasons.
Per Deadline, despite earning largely positive reviews from critics, Based on a True Story will not return for a third season on Peacock. Created by Craig Rosenberg, the dark comedy thriller series is a satire of the true crime genre with elements loosely inspired by true events. Both seasons follow married couple Ava and Nathan Bartlett, played by Cuoco and Chris Messina respectively, as they capitalize on America's growing obsession with true crime by launching a podcast with serial killer Matt Pierce (Tom Bateman). The second, and now final, season of eight episodes was released in its entirety on Peacock back in November 2024.

Peacock has officially reached the bookend for its series, Based on a True Story, as Variety reports the streamer has slapped the title with a cancellation. The second season came out all the way back in November, so fans have been waiting months for the final verdict, but it’s not the one they were hoping for. The news is a bit shocking as both seasons of the Kaley Cuoco and Chris Messina-led dark comedy drama performed well with audiences and critics alike, earning positive Rotten Tomatoes ratings. Showing potential for growth, the second season even added 7 points to its score on the online platform, moving from a Season 1 76% critics’ approval rating to Season 2’s 83%. Still, for one reason or another, NBCUniversal’s streamer decided to close the book and move on from Based on a True Story.

The comedies “Based on a True Story” and “Mr. Throwback” have been canceled at Peacock, Variety has learned exclusively. “Based on a True Story” had debuted its second season in November 2024, while “Mr. Throwback” aired its one and only season at the NBCUniversal streamer in August 2024.
Peacock does not release regular viewership information, so gauging the exact audience of either show is difficult, but both received solid reviews upon their release.
“Based on a True” story starred Kaley Cuoco and Chris Messina as a financially struggling couple who decide to start a true crime podcast to investigate whether or not their plumber is in fact a serial killer. The cast also included Tom Bateman, Liana Liberato, and Priscilla Quintana. The show originally premiered in 2023.
Craig Rosenberg created the series and served as an executive producer. Annie Weisman served as writer, showrunner, and an executive producer on Season 2 with Jaclyn Moore also writing and executive producing.

With star Mason Gooding recently teasing Neve Campbell's return for Scream VII, the overarching continuity of the slasher movie universe is beginning to take shape. The popular horror franchise created by Wes Craven in 1996 remained confined to the California suburbs of Woodsboro during the first five installments before branching out to New York City in Scream VI, a reinvigorating departure expected to continue when Scream 7 is released in 2026.
In addition to the coastal change, series mainstay Neve Campbell was noticeably absent from Scream VI due to contract disagreements. Then, Melissa Barrera, was notoriously fired from the franchise following her pro-Palestinian support after Scream IV was released, prompting Campbell's return for Scream 7. Given all the moving parts, casting changes, new settings, and the like, it's worth delineating how Scream V and Scream VI relate to each other narratively and whether the former must be seen to comprehend the latter.

Scream 7 is bringing Sidney Prescott back (Neve Campbell) now that Sam (Melissa Barrera) and Tara (Jenna Ortega) are gone, but the stories of the latter two can’t be ignored for one big reason. The Scream saga has seized the rise and popularity of horror reboots and legacy sequels and made a successful comeback 11 years after the release of Scream 4. 2022’s Scream kicked off the reboot trilogy and introduced a new generation of Ghostface killers and targets, led by sisters Sam and Tara Carpenter.
Scream 2022 saw the return of Sidney, Dewey (David Arquette), and Gale (Courteney Cox) to aid Sam, Tara, and their friends during the new Woodsboro murders. Sam, Tara, their surviving friends, and Gale returned in Scream 6 to confront another Ghostface killer now in New York City, while Sidney was said to have gone to a safe place with her husband and children. This article discusses sexual assault and child abuse.
After ten years starring in a breezy sitcom as famous as Friends, any actor might feel the urge to branch out and show the world what they're really made of. To demonstrate his versatility, David Schwimmer slid into the director's chair for the 2010 drama Trust, a cautionary tale about internet safety that is about as far from romantic comedy territory as it gets. This disturbing story of child exploitation offers no easy answers and proves that there is more to Schwimmer than the lovable goof Ross Geller.
David Schwimmer made his directorial debut with the 2007 Simon Pegg comedy Run Fatboy Run, but he was already hard at work on something far more personal and challenging. Trust reflects the Friends star's years of commitment to the support of sexual assault survivors, and his rigorously researched film is brutally honest about the effects of abuse on whole families.

No, the image above is not Melissa Fumero as the beloved Amy Santiago in Brooklyn Nine-Nine. In fact, the actress' new character is nowhere near being a part of law enforcement. Even though she pretends to be! That would be Fumero as Drew/Olivia in Peacock's Based on a True Story season 2, which is now streaming.
No matter what she does, Fumero brings a great element to any role. And this one is no different! In the second season of the dark comedy, the star plays Drew, who is Ava's [Kaley Cuoco] new mom friend. At first all is well and good, and she shares she's a detective. However, all of that is not true. Even the baby she says is hers is the one Drew babysits.
It turns out Drew's real name is Olivia, and she's Matt's [Tom Bateman] ex-wife. Aka the mother of his son, Ollie! Whaat? Talk about complicated.

As Ava dug deeper into trying to uncover the identity of the newest serial killer galavanting around town, Drew was doing some meddling of her own. But instead of being the detective Ava thinks her to be, she is actually Olivia, the ex of Westside Ripper Matt (Tom Bateman). It turns out that Olivia wanted to end Matt’s murder spree by catching him in the midst of a crime and revealing evidence to authorities. Realizing the threat Olivia is making, Ava’s sister and Matt’s fiancee, Tory (Liana Liberato) stabbed the woman, killing her. While Olivia’s time was short-lived, Fumero’s latest role certainly packed a punch. Below,...

Did “Based on a True Story” need a second season? Arguably no, but credit where credit is due: Season 2 the Peacock series — now led by Annie Weisman — is significantly more confident, entertaining, and batshit (respectfully) than the first, so when the inevitable cliffhanger rolls around, it actually feels earned.
Season 2, Episode 8, “This Week’s Guest” starts with Ava (Kaley Cuoco) and Nathan (Chris Messina) held hostage at a podcast studio by the as-yet-unidentified Copycat Killer. This is a show with so few characters that I was genuinely stumped as to the murderer’s identity, and thrilled by the reveal that its Chloe Lake’s (Natalia Dyer) sister (Sarah Paxton) — whose sister was killed by Matt (Tom Bateman), the West Side Ripper.
It’s a turn very much of a piece with the rest of the season, which smartly pulls away from Ava, Nathan, and Matt’s hit podcast and its dubious ethics.

Spoiler Alert: This post contains details about Season 2 of Based on a True Story.
Wedding bells are in store for Liana Liberato this season on Based on a True Story, and let’s just hope someone knows how to get blood stains out of white.
After the first season saw Tory unwittingly sparking romance with a serial killer, the actress told Deadline about “justifying her choices” as she gets engaged to ‘Westside Ripper’ Matt (Tom Bateman) and “holding up a mirror” to true-crime obsessives in Season 2 of the Peacock dark comedy thriller, now streaming on the platform.
“I definitely thought at first, Tory would probably be in the dark in Season 2 and she’d just be dating Matt and having no idea that she was in bed with a serial killer,” admitted Liberato. “But it was an interesting challenge being thrown that curveball and having to justify her decisions and her choices.

The cast of Peacock's Based on a True Story gives stellar performances, particularly the two leads playing characters involved in a true-crime podcast. The comedy thriller tells the story of a couple who decide to directly profit from a serial killer in their area by starting a podcast about him. To make the show unique, the podcasters choose to interview the murderer with the agreement that he does not kill anyone else while doing the podcast. The series forces viewers to examine where the line is between entertainment and exploitation.
Despite its heavy central question, Based on a True Story maintains a lighthearted tone throughout the show. Based on a True Storys second season takes the story in a completely different direction. Its no longer centered around a podcast with an anonymous couple interviewing a serial killer. The podcast was canceled by modern-day cancel culture, and the status of the couple and the killer hang in the balance.
Thus, the plot takes some interesting twists and turns, one of which is a storyline about trying to rehabilitate Matt (Tom Bateman). The belief this could work, however, seems far more unlikely than even the non-sensical (albeit highly entertaining) nature of the plot itself.

Spoiler Alert: This post contains details about Season 2 of Based on a True Story.
Kaley Cuoco and Chris Messina have a copycat on their hands, but the sophomore season of their dark comedy thriller is anything but a retread.
In Season 2 of Peacock‘s Based on a True Story, premiering Thursday on the streamer, the duo is back as new parents Ava and Nathan, who have mostly settled into the chaos of parenthood after diving into their serial killer friend Matt’s (Tom Bateman) mind on their podcast.
“I’ve said from Season 1, they are as guilty as Matt is at this point,” Cuoco told Deadline. “They have done a lot of bad things, so they all kind of need each other in a way and no one can ditch the other. They’ve got a lot of dirt on each other. So, we kind of all have to deal...

Season 2 of Peacocks twisty true-crime comedy thriller Based on a True Story is off to a great start, and if the series new showrunner has her way, the Kaley Cuoco & Chris Messina romp could go on for years to come. In a recent interview with MovieWeb, showrunner Annie Weisman, who was at the helm of Physical and came from Desperate Housewives and About a Boy, made a candid admission about how many seasons are in store for the hit comedy, noting, I don't really see a limit at this point." She added:
I can promise you that we had plenty to do this season in eight episodes. We were sort of packed with comedy stories, romantic comedy stories, and a mystery story. And we do promise that it comes to a very satisfying conclusion, but then we're also able to kind of tease a whole new mystery that could bring us back for another season.

Based on a True Story season 2 premiered on Peacock with all eight episodes today, and I have to tell you that it was a really fun watch overall! When the first season came out, I really enjoyed it and so I was excited that there was more to tell in the story, especially with some of those season 1 cliffhangers. Let's get into the review of season 2 overall, and whether it's worth your time. Major Spoilers Below.

The showrunner of Based on a True Story offers an encouraging update on season 3. With a second installment of the dark comedy arriving on November 21, the Peacock Original series centers on Ava (Kaley Cuoco) and Nathan Bartlett (Chris Messina). The couple finds themselves pulled into the saga of a gruesome murder, which matches Ava's interest in true crime. The premise generated buzz for Peacock, with Based on a True season 2 doubling down on the main duo's unique circumstances.
In an interview with Screen Rant's Grant Hermanns, showrunner Annie Weisman addresses the chances of Based on a True Story season 3. The showrunner and executive producer is candid about the fact that there are hopes for the comedy to be renewed. Still, in the quote below, Weisman underlines the fact that season 2 tells a close-ended mystery:

Based on a True Story, a Peacock comedy series starring Kaley Cuoco and Chris Messina is returning for Season 2, but things are going to feel quite different this time around.
Season 1 of the show followed a couple who ended up blackmailing a serial killer to do an anonymous True Crime podcast with them to try and hit the jackpot. Now, with Season 2, that podcast is no longer the focus.
In a series of exclusive interviews, The Direct spoke with producer Michael Costigan and lead actress Liana Liberato about how the show and how Season 2 evolved from Season 1.

Kaley Cuoco's crime show has debuted with a perfect Rotten Tomatoes score for season 2. While she has many credits to her name, Cuoco is best known for playing Penny in all 12 seasons of The Big Bang Theory, in which she brought many of the funniest and most heartfelt scenes to life throughout the CBS sitcom's run. Penny's friendship with Sheldon Cooper (Jim Parsons) became a particularly celebrated element of the series. Prior to The Big Bang Theory, Cuoco played Bridget Hennessy in the ABC sitcom 8 Simple Rules.
After The Big Bang Theory ended, Cuoco starred in and produced HBO's The Flight Attendant. The series blended elements of dark comedy and drama as Cuoco's complex character, Cassie Bowden, worked to solve mysterious murders while navigating her own struggles with alcoholism. Based on a True Story is a delightful dark comedy thriller on Peacock that fits right in with the latest influx of modern whodunit shows that poke fun at societal obsession with both true crime and podcasting. It combines these loves into one hilarious story about a couple expecting their first child, dealing with life challenges, and finding opportunities in the most unlikely of places. They have discovered the identity of a local serial killer, and it just so happens to be someone they know.
Rather than turn him in, Ava (Kaley Cuoco), who figured out the mystery thanks to her amateur sleuthing skills, thinks they should capitalize on it.

Nathan's desire for a break from life is taking him down a dark path in Based on a True Story season 2. Played by Juror #2 star Chris Messina, Nathan was introduced in season 1 of the Peacock dark comedy thriller as the husband to Kaley Cuoco's true crime-obsessed Ava and a former tennis star who, after a career-ending injury, has turned to teaching tennis. Season 1 saw Ava and Nathan determine their plumber Matt was the local serial killer, The Westside Ripper, and make a deal with him that as long as he doesn't kill anymore and makes a podcast with them, they won't turn him in.

After Season 1’s abrupt cliffhanger, there was no doubt that Peacock’s “Based on a True Story” was angling for a second season, and it’s the increasingly rare show to turn one around in roughly a year once that light turned green.
The first season of Craig Rosenberg’s dark comedy introduced Ava (Kaley Cuoco) and Nathan (Chris Messina), a married couple living in Los Angeles who accidentally cross paths with active serial killer Matt (Tom Bateman) and decide to start a true crime podcast with him. As the specter of the West Side Ripper grows, so too does the podcast’s notoriety, and Matt sinks his claws into the lives of two people in way over their heads and dancing with the devil.
Also they all did drugs and made out with each other. But that was just a dream sequence.

Matthew Lillard played one of the original Ghostfaces, Stu Macher, alongside Billy Loomis (Skeet Ulrich) in Wes Craven's Scream, and despite the character seemingly meeting a violent end, fans continue to speculate and theorize that the deranged killer could return in the upcoming Scream 7.
Stu appeared to be pretty definitively killed off during the climax of the movie, but we have seen plenty of people survive what should be fatal wounds in the franchise, so who knows?
For his part, Lillard has said that he believes Stu is still alive, and would be happy to reprise the role if that was something fans wanted to see.

The Scream killers continue to build following Scream 6, and the Ghostface mask has been worn by almost 20 different people. Throughout the six movies, an impressive number of characters have worn the Ghostface mask, which is only added to with the franchises TV series. While many got their hands dirty with the killings, others acted more like masterminds or distractions. Scream VI follows the fun of looking at the movie's ensemble and trying to decide who plays Ghostface before the final unmasking reveals it all.

Kaley Cuoco, Chris Messina, Tom Bateman and Liana Liberato are back with more murder and mayhem in Based on a True Story season two. And this time, there’s a new pint-sized accessory in tow.
Based on a True Story is based on (or partly inspired by) a true story. The series, which satirizes true-crime tropes, introduced Cuoco and Messina as Ava and Nathan, a down-on-their-luck couple who crossed paths with an infamous serial killer, “The Westside Ripper,” in Los Angeles. Ava, a pregnant true-crime obsessive, suggested making a podcast with the killer as a way out of their marital rut.
Now, after the events of season one, season two opens with Ava and Nathan as new parents who attempt to now get out of the true-crime game — but, as the trailer shows, those aspirations are fleeting. The season opens on Ava and Nathan struggling to balance parenthood with waking away from their obsession.
