"A Smug Villain Who Remains Unpunched Is Not Living Up To Their Full Potential.": X-Men's Most Underrated Villain Was Meant to Appear in the Krakoan Era
Image
Writer Kieron Gillen was originally going to use his creation, underrated X-Men villain Unit was originally, in the Krakoan Era but the plan was scrapped, leaving the character's future to be determined by another writer. Unit initially appeared to be a formidable opponent for the X-Men, but his true potential as a villain was never actualized. Unit's creator, Kieron Gillen, expressed regret over not being able to bring the character back, and hopes that someone else will find a use for him in the future.

An underrated X-Men antagonist, the artificial lifeform Unit, was originally slated to appear in the franchise's Krakoan Era, in a role that would have been perfect for him; unfortunately, the plan was ultimately scrapped, leaving the villain to – as writer Kieron Gillen put it – "remain unpunched," at least for now.

Speaking with Aipt for X-Men Monday #235, Gillen responded to a fan question about Unit, a...

17 Most Likable X-Men Villains in Marvel History (Ranked)
Image
With the arguable exceptions of Batman and Spider-Man, few long-running comic franchises can boast a rogues' gallery as deep and colorful as that of the X-Men. The famous mutant super-team has existed in one iteration or another since 1963, and they've collected an impressive list of foes over the decades. Much like the X-Men themselves, many of these supervillains have been presented with some degree of nuance. Many are the result of the world they were born into; they've suffered inconceivable tragedies, or perhaps circumstances demand they play the role of the antagonist. The line between "hero" and "villain" is murkier in the X-Men's world than you may find elsewhere, resulting in some of the most compelling foes to ever grace the pages of comic books.

The X-Men's roster of villains is expansive, and even the most exhaustive effort is unlikely to capture every individual who could be included on this list.

‘Spider-Verse’ #1 Spins a Tale of Intrigue and Déjà vu
Spider-Verse #1

Written by Mike Costa

Pencils by Andre Araujo and Stephen Sanders

Colors by Rachelle Rosenberg

Published by Marvel Comics

In the great wide Battleworld of Secret Wars spin-offs and tie-ins, Spider-Verse #1 stands out as a unique story that seeks to better understand the confusion and strange sense of familiarity our characters (and readers) find themselves in. With a variety of alternate worlds and timelines mashed together is a bizarre patchwork, one has to wonder which characters still exist and what they remember from their past lives. Written by Mike Costa with art by Andre Araujo and Steven Sanders, this debut issue is a fun and intriguing set-up for a tale of multiverse mystery.

Spinning out of the Spider-Verse event in Amazing Spider-Man, the plot revolves around Spider-Gwen, Spider-uk, Spider-Man India and Spider-Girl Anya Corazon. Costa opens with a narration from Spider-Gwen, who can’t seem to shake the memories of a different life.

Anderson Silva Apologizes To His Home Country After Gruesome Injury
Anderson, what are you apologizing for!? After losing Ufc 168 due to a gruesome broken left leg, the iconic fighter piled the blame on himself with a heart-wrenching tweet.

Though it seems hard to blame Anderson Silva for suffering a horrific broken leg that knocked him out of his middleweight Ufc title match on Dec. 29, and possibly ended his career, the 38-year-old was feeling extremely guilty afterwards, and he even sent his apologies to his homeland, Brazil.

Anderson Silva Tweets Apology For Losing Ufc 168

While everyone was sending their prayers and support to Anderson after seeing him leg gruesomely snap, he was apologizing (!) to all Brazilians. He tweeted:

Brasil sinto muito não queria ter desapontado vocês dei o meu melhor eu juro

— Anderson Silva (@SpiderAnderson) December 29, 2013

Anderson Silva Breaks His Leg

The tweet roughly translates to, “Brazil, I’m very sorry to have disappointed you, did not give my best I swear.

The Best Moments From the Trailer for Sharknado
Ian Ziering
Sharknado, the straight-to-tv movie with the tagline reading "Enough said!" apparently doesn't feel the need to explain its madness. That's fine — we get it: It's a tornado with a bunch of sharks in it. But how did the sharks get there? And how are Ian Ziering, Tara Reid, and a bunch of their friends going to stop these flying sharks from terrorizing the city? This trailer implies chainsaws, but you'll have to see for yourself. Here are its best moments, but don't forget to watch (DVR is your friend!) this Thursday at 9 p.m. on SyFy.Here is the crew of sharknado chasers (that's like tornado chasers, but for when the tornado is full of sharks) proudly marching to fight the tornado(???) with a wheelbarrow of weapons. Check out that wrench! Good luck with that. What do they plan to do with those tools? Well, apparently Steven Sanders (Ian Ziering,...

Image Comics has announced that it will reprint Our Love is Real. The Sam Humphries and Steven Sanders one-shot was initially self-published in print and digital last month. The print edition of the comic sold out after only nine hours. Our Love is Real is set in a future where love between mankind and animals, plants and other formerly unconventional items is becoming far more common. "Image kingpin Eric Stephenson was on the ball," Humphries told iFanboy. "I sent him an advance (more)...

Top 10 New Comic Book Series of 2010
Again only comics I’ve bought that were published in 2010. If you think I’ve missed something please let me know in the comments section below, after all this is only mine and Phil’s opinions. I’m always open to trying new things… comics, I mean comics!

1: Uncanny X-Force | Marvel | W: Rick Remender | A: Jerome Opena

Only 3 issues in an this series is looking like the best X-Men series currently being published, and that’s not to say the titles by Fraction, Gillen, Carey, and David aren’t good, it’s just that Uncanny X-Force has that certain something that makes it stand out. It’s a combination of the tight, fast paced writing of Remender, the amazing art by Opena and White, and lots of little touches that the creators add that make it a perfect comic.

2: Avengers Children’s Crusade | Marvel | W: Allan Heinberg | A:...

This Week in Comics – Tuesday Editioon
Have you heard the Plastic Beach yet? Isn’t it brilliant? It’s beautifully consistent, which is something the whole Gorillaz project has been gravitating towards since their first record, which was a collision of the various styles that Damon Albarn was noodling with since he got bored with Britpop. Plastic Beach strives for one mostly uniform style — melancholy electro hip-hop — which is a bit of a continuation of Blur’s Think Tank. Damon even does a bit of rapping on that record, too. It also helps that he fills the album with artists I enjoy like Gruff Rhys, Mos Def, Lou Reed and De La Soul.

So welcome to This Week in Comics, where I can totally talk about Gorillaz because of the Tank Girl connection…Not that I needed an excuse.

The Pull List Comic Reviews: ‘S.W.O.R.D.’, ‘Punishermax’, ‘Strange’ and More
Welcome to another edition of The Pull List Comic Reviews! We’ve got a lot off good issues to get through, so let’s get to it. As always, Warning: Spoilers Ahead.

Pull Of The Week:

S.W.O.R.D. #1 – Marvel Comics – $3.99 Us

Writer: Kieron Gillen

Artists: Steven Sanders, Jamie McKelvie

Score: 9.0

Spinning out of Joss Whedon and John Cassaday’s seminal Astonishing X-Men run, S.W.O.R.D. is the new title focusing on the organization entrusted to ensure that alien invasions are kept to a minimum. The Sentient World Observation and Response Department’s co-commander, Abigail Brand, has enough on her plate as it is, but having Henry Peter Gyrich – yes, That guy – as your co-commander simply can’t be a good thing.

After making a name for himself with the critically acclaimed Phonogram series, Marvel thought that writer Kieron Gillen would be able to handle the launch of a new,...

Dave’s Weekly Comic Book Recommendations
This week I am personally fired up for the new Marvel series S.W.O.R.D. #1 by new Thor writer Kieron Gillen and Steven Sanders. The last time I saw Sanders he did the Five Fists of Science with Matt Fraction that feels like it was a century ago. The series is a spinoff from Joss Whedon’s Astonishing X-Men where we follow Agent Brand, Beast and Lockheed through the cosmos.

Following that is the new Doctor Strange spinoff, Strange by Mark Waid and Emma Rios. Being a nut for all things Deadpool, the latest issue of Amazing Spider-Man guest stars the Merc with a Mouth. But that’s not really why I’m buying the issue, its ’cause the awesome Eric Canete draws the issue.

For Matt, this week we have a Doc Savage special guest starring Batman. Written by the brilliant Brian Azzarello and drawn by Phil Noto,...

Comics On The PSP, DSi and iPhone: A Look At Handheld Reading
As you can probably tell from from this week's coverage of "Batman: Arkham Asylum," Splash Page's love of video games is second only to Multiplayer around MTV HQ. In that spirit of mutual adoration, it's only right to fill in fans on some of latest-gen consoles capable of transcending comic book boundaries with readable material—in the UK, the Us, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa, at least.

PSP: Starting later this year the PlayStation Portable and its slimmer new PSP Go counterpart will be able to access and store titles from Marvel Comics, Idw and other publishers through the device's online PlayStation Store. Users will be able to read the comics via Sony's digital reader service.

Right now, the interface is slated to fit full-page and panel-by-panel viewing, giving it an advantage over other devices with similar screen sizes.

Nintendo DSi: The latest Nintendo handheld has had access to comics for awhile.
