This article contains spoilers for Star Wars: Skeleton Crew episode 7. Star Wars: Skeleton Crew episode 7 features a surprising Kotor Easter egg that's a lot more important than it seems. Skeleton Crew is an unusual Star Wars story; it's surprisingly accessible to new viewers, even though every episode is absolutely packed with Easter eggs. This is because some of them are so subtle you can easily miss them, while the bulk of the story is focused on new additions to lore, such as the planet At Attin.
In Skeleton Crew episode 7, Jod Na Nawood manages to make his way beyond the Barrier protecting At Attin. Once he arrives, he pretends to be a "Republic Emissary" who has been officially sent to the planet - confusion made possible because of the Onyx Cinder's true nature. Darth Bane is one of the most important characters in the entire Star Wars timeline, but what do we know about him in canon? Most of Bane's story originates in the Star Wars Legends continuity, with many of the details of his origin story coming from Drew Karpyshyn's legendary Darth Bane trilogy of novels. Bane, however, actually originates in George Lucas's outlines for Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace.
Darth Bane's name was first mentioned in The Phantom Menace's novelization, written by Terry Brooks, based on a backstory provided by George Lucas. The purpose of Bane's mention is to describe the history of the Sith, and why the Jedi think they are extinct. Much of this is similar to canon, but a lot is also quite different. Here's everything we know about Darth Bane in Star Wars canon.

Warning! This article contains Spoilers for Star Wars: The Acolyte episode 5.
The Stranger, a new character in The Acolyte, has strong connections to the Sith and wears cortosis armor that can short out Jedi lightsabers. Cortosis, a copper-colored metal, has a connection to Darth Bane in the Star Wars Legends timeline. The Stranger could be a part of the Banite Sith, following the Rule of Two, and this backstory could be leaned into with the introduction of cortosis in live-action.
The Acolyte has introduced a new character who brutally cut down seven Jedi in his first ever appearance and he seems to have big connections to several dark side groups, including the Sith. The Stranger, or Qimir as he was known before The Acolyte episode 5, has instantly made ripples in the Star Wars community. Kotor III was canceled by LucasArts in 2005, but its story was adapted into a tie-in novel. Star Wars: The Old Republic - Revan picked up after the Kotor games, continuing elements of the planned Kotor III storyline. While unlikely, the desire for Kotor III to be developed into a video game still exists among fans.
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic III was canceled by LucasArts in 2005, but a version of the game's story was released through another medium. Set in the Legends timeline 4,000 years before the Star Wars movies and TV shows, Kotor introduced fans to a new era and allowed players to explore the galaxy like never before. Following the critical and commercial success of the first two games, Obsidian Entertainment was keen to develop another Star Wars game and pitched Kotor III to LucasArts.
The game was well into development, but a restructuring at LucasArts led to Kotor III's premature cancelation.

Both Star Wars canon and Legends depict the ancient Jedi-Sith War, with the Battle of Ruusan as a key event. Darth Bane played a pivotal role in both continuities, establishing the Rule of Two as a way for the Sith to survive and seek revenge. While canon has not explored the Sith's defeat in great detail, it retains key elements from Legends, including the title of the Jedi (Army of Light) and the final battle on Ruusan.
The ancient war between the Jedi Knights and the Sith Lords is a key event in the Star Wars franchise, yet it is never shown in the live-action films. Non-movie materials from the two Star Wars continuities, however, have explored it either partially or entirely. The first official Star Wars continuity, Legends (formerly the Expanded Universe), thoroughly explores the Jedi-Sith War (also known as the New Sith Wars) in a multitude of mediums,...

Revan believed that Jedi should use positive emotions like love to strengthen their connection to the light side of the Force. Anakin Skywalker's story demonstrates the dangers of emotional attachment for Jedi, leading to his fall to the dark side. Luke Skywalker's story proves that Revan was right, as his positive emotions saved him and inspired his father's redemption.
Several Star Wars movies have explored the problems with the Jedi Order, but Revan realized their biggest flaw during the Old Republic era in Legends. Revan began his life as a Jedi, becoming a hero to the Republic when he defied the Jedi Council and led an army to fight Mandalorian invaders. However, Revan and his friend Malak were corrupted by the dark side and returned as Sith Lords, waging a war against the Republic they once served. The Star Wars franchise is rich with history with the potential for animated film adaptations, and perhaps even more in the Legends continuity. Since Lucasfilm has been on hiatus from the big screen space since Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker, the brand expanded into live-action TV and more animated efforts.
While the production company only adapts elements of Legends canon material in a piecemeal approach, taking a page from DC Comics' philosophy of creating animated movies set in alternate timelines would lend itself well to these Star Wars stories. From novels like the Darth Bane Trilogy that show the creation of the Rule of Two to comics like Darth Vader and the Ghost Prison that spotlight the Dark Lord's early days, these Legends materials have the potential for animated adaptations.

Darth Bane, the creator of the Rule of Two, was the most important Sith in the Jedi-Sith War, preventing the Sith from being completely destroyed. Bane's brutal training with lightsabers, including toxin-filled barbs, helped him surpass his peers and become an exceptional duelist. While Bane's Rule of Two protected the Sith, making them stronger and more cunning, Darth Sidious proved that it was ultimately doomed to fail by manipulating and outmaneuvering it.
Most Star Wars fans would agree that villains are typically the best characters, especially the Sith Lords. Darth Vader is probably the most-known baddie, but the franchise has plenty of other popular Sith. Darth Revan and Darth Nihilus have two of the best stories, but the single most important Sith was Darth Bane. He was the creator of the Rule of Two, and without him, the Jedi probably would have destroyed the Sith for good during the Jedi-Sith War.

Lucasfilm has been focusing on Star Wars productions for Disney+, but an adaptation of the Darth Bane Trilogy could steer the franchise in exciting new directions. Fans are tired of the Skywalker Saga and crave something new in the Star Wars universe, with supplemental stories and mediums leading the way in showcasing diverse content. Darth Bane would be a perfect format for an Old Republic-era trilogy, providing a cohesive storyline, compelling characters, and epic battles that would captivate audiences on the big screen.
Lucasfilm has been making Disney+ the home of big-budget Star Wars productions as of late, but when the time comes for the franchise to reassert its theatrical presence, an adaptation of the Darth Bane Trilogy would take the brand in exciting new directions. It seems like Lucasfilm has been having some production turmoil, considering how hard it's been to greenlight and produce upcoming movies, even after taking the pandemic into account.

The Acolyte will be the first onscreen Star Wars story from the Sith's perspective, offering a unique and compelling new approach. The show will focus on the Sith working to undermine the Jedi, showcasing morally ambiguous characters and expanding on Sith-centric ideas. The Acolyte has the potential to recontextualize moments in the Star Wars timeline and create one of the most distinctive and thrilling Star Wars stories to date.
The Acolyte is set to be the Star Wars franchise's first onscreen story from the Sith's perspective. There have been Star Wars books told from the perspective of the Sith, such as Drew Karpyshyn's Darth Bane trilogy, but never a movie or TV show. Here are the top Star Wars authors every fan needs to read. Star Wars has always been a transmedia franchise. The first official tie-in novel, Alan Dean Foster's Splinter of the Mind's Eye, was published before The Empire Strikes Back even released. But it wasn't until 1991 that Star Wars really began exploring the potential of novels, with Bantam releasing a string of New York Times-bestselling books.

It's extremely difficult to rank the best Star Wars authors, not least because many of the best stories are now officially considered non-canon. Some writers have only published once in the franchise, while others still feel as though they're finding their feet. Honorable mentions have to be made to George Mann, Aaron Allston, Alexander Freed, Cavan Scott, Greg Keyes, and Jason Fry. Still, here are Screen Rant's pick for the top eight Star Wars writers.

The Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic series introduced the Jedi Exile, who would eventually become the bridge between KotOR and Star Wars canon. The Expanded Universe being rebranded as "Legends" means that KotOR is considered non-canon, but elements from the games and their tie in media continue to appear in new stories. Each of these references creates a new bridge between KotoR and modern Star Wars storytelling and allows fans to experience classic stories in a new way. One such bridge is the Jedi Exile, a character with a complicated yet intriguing history of development.
Despite the Jedi Exile's importance in KotOR, many fans may not know everything about the Exile as a character, or how they subsequently returned to canon. This makes the Jedi Exile one of the most unique characters in Star Wars, changing a lot throughout the years before cementing their place in the Old Republic timeline.

Ubisoft recently revealed Star Wars Outlaws, featuring its new protagonist Kay Vess who could just solve a problem that has been plaguing Star Wars games for some time. While Star Wars has long been a franchise with compelling female characters at its core, that has not been the case for its games. While there have been games that allowed players to customize their character's gender, almost all the Star Wars games with a fixed protagonist have featured men.
Taking place between The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, Star Wars Outlaws will follow cunning young scoundrel Kay Vess as she seeks to pull off jobs within the criminal underworld. The recent Star Wars timeline finally allows viewers to figure out the nature of the SIth's 1,000-year plan to defeat the Jedi. The Star Wars galaxy is characterized by an apparently unending war between the light and dark. There were dark side cults before the Sith, with the Jedi battling a group called the Ordu Aspectu some 20,000 years before the prequel trilogy. But the Sith, originally a sect of rogue Jedi who committed themselves to the dark side, are undoubtedly the most fearsome and dangerous avatars of the dark side.
By the time of the prequel trilogy, the Jedi believed the Sith to have been extinct for a thousand years. In reality, they had been operating in the shadows, subverting the Republic and undermining the Jedi, preparing for the day when they would emerge to take their revenge. Viewers are only really familiar with the end of this story, but...

The Jedi and Sith show off many force powers throughout the Star Wars franchise, but generally prefer to use lightsabers in combat. At first using a melee weapon, no matter how powerful, may seem inefficient given all the Force and technological options available to the Jedi and their Dark Side counterparts. However, Star Wars canon has established clear reasons why Force users prefer to fight with lightsabers instead.
Lightsabers have been a key part of the Star Wars mythos since the first movie, perfectly symbolizing the blend of sci-fi and fantasy that makes Star Wars special. Using futuristic swords helps the Jedi symbolically echo medieval knights pr Japanese samurai. Although Star Wars has shown that non-Jedi can use ligihtsabers, the weapon is still very much associated with Force-users. There’s a degree to which the release of Mass Effect Legendary Edition lives under the shadow of Mass Effect 3‘s controversial ending. If you somehow didn’t know, Mass Effect 3‘s ending is a big part of the reason why some consider it to be one of the most disappointing games of all-time. Even the “Extended Cut” version of the ending BioWare eventually released as Dlc has done little to change its reputation as one of the most disappointing finales in any medium.

The Star Wars universe is more popular than ever these days, with the last two Star Wars movies, Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story earning over $3 billion worldwide. The universe has continued to expand with novels, comic books and other stories that are part of the official Star Wars canon, including new video game Star Wars Battlefront. Today we have word that LucasFilm may be teaming up with Bioware to reboot the fan-favorite game Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, making those characters and elements also part of the official cinematic canon.
The Star Wars Game Outpost came across the Patreon page of gaming journalist Liam Robertson, who has learned that BioWare's Austin facility is exclusively working on new Star Wars video games. One of these games is reportedly a "remake/revival" of Knights of the Old Republic, and there is...

Bioware/Damrick
When it comes to memorable and downright loveable characters, Mass Effect ranks up with the sci-fi genre’s elite, turning out game after game of people you just couldn’t wait to spend more time with. There was a reason it was always hard to choose who to take on any given mission on the squad select screen, and when that’s down to everyone being stuffed with so much conversational potential, it’s a defining trait well worth celebrating.
However, Bioware knew back in 2007 that they weren’t just creating a series of games – instead, this was an entire universe of possibilities (something that they could fall back on following ME3’s foot-shooting bevy of disappointment), and so, alongside the three major entries are a slew of comics and four main novels.

These days, it feels like everything pop culture gets about a half dozen bits of spinoff media, from comics and books to video games. With media corporations focusing on transmedia synergy (selling different stories from the same intellectual property (IP) in different formats to get more money), it seems like you can’t enjoy a TV show, movie, or a video game without having to read or see something else that explains something important. At some point, these tie-in media gain a life of their own, growing faster than their parent media and ballooning into their own private universes.
The science fiction genre is a breeding ground for these “expanded universes.” Hugely popular franchises like Star Trek, Star Wars, Halo, and Dr. Who often come with fans clamoring for more material and IP owners annually crank out novels and comics to feed that demand. Less than 5% of the total fanbase usually know about these works,...

One of the best parts of the Mass Effect franchise is how expansive it is with it's huge cast of species, characters and content. Each game can be spanned over dozens of hours of content depending on how the player progresses through the story. The series has also been expanded through novels, comics and animated movies. Other than knowing that the film is confirmed to feature a Male Shepard and center around the first game, we don't know much else. While speaking to Kotaku, Drew Karpyshyn (who was the one of the biggest creative forces behind the series) let loose his thoughts on the Hollywood adaptation. “I think taking a video game and putting it into another form—book, movie, or whatever—is very complicated, especially a BioWare game. We have 30 hours of content!" Karpyshyn first noted. He then went on to say how most fans and players will be...

There’s no question that a Mass Effect movie is going to become a reality at some point, since science fiction epics that manage to grab mainstream attention are few and far between. Even though Star Trek and Star Wars may be grabbing headlines, fans would argue that the Mass Effect universe has even more potential than the game trilogy could cash-in on (and others might claim that calling it ‘the next Star Trek’ would be an understatement).
As the lead writer behind the first Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2, as well as the accompanying novels, Drew Karpyshyn is somewhat of an expert when it comes to BioWare’s most well-known mainstream release. Meaning, the story elements he feels should be adapted – and which should be scrapped – is advice the ...

Today we were given yet another Star Wars rumour to wind down the week. Ain’t It Cool News reported earlier that one of the many ideas currently floating around Disney’s Lucasfilm is a movie version of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. This rumoured adaptation went viral after Star Wars mythos creator turned screenwriter, Drew Karpyshyn said the following via his personal website:
“I don’t have any produced or sold screenplays yet. I have one script that’s nearly complete, and I will be looking for an agent soon to help me market it to major Hollywood studios.”
Drew Karpyshyn does reportedly have a “nice in” with Lucasfilm. Yet, besides the vague reports and heavy speculation, there’s no actual evidence Karpyshyn is writing a Knights of the Old Republic screenplay, or anything Star Wars related. His screenplay really could be anything. The landmark RPG...

Another crazy Star Wars rumor has found its way online, and I'm sure there's going to be a ton more rumors throughout the years. The thing you have to understand is as of right now, everything Star Wars is up for grabs, Lucasfilm and Disney are throwing around all kinds of ideas. If the fans have thought of it, I'm sure Lucasfilm has as well. They are going to want to make a ton of awesome Star Wars movies, and there's enough room to tell them all as long as people are going to see them, and the movies are making money. Remember, the studio wants to released 2 to 3 Star Wars films a year, and that could happen for as long as they want to keep making them. 20 years from now we could still be seeing Star Wars movies being made.
As for the latest rumor, AICN has heard that Drew Karpyshyn,...

Last night, a rumor went online saying that among the many Star Wars film projects in development at Disney/LucasFilm was an adaptation of the hit RPG Knights Of The Old Republic. The rumor stated that Drew Karpyshyn, who wrote the game as well as its sequel and The Old Republic, was working on the script. However, the writer has now taken to his Twitter account to address this rumor. @agentjaspor @headgeek666 this would be awesome, but I haven't heard anything about a #Kotor movie. But I'm not at #bioware anymore so...— Drew Karpyshyn (@DrewKarpyshyn) February 23, 2013 Of course, this doesn't necessarily mean that a Knights Of The Old Republic movie isn't in the works, as a different screenwriter could be penning such a project. Of course, the only Star Wars film that is in active development is J.J. Abrams' Episode VII, which may hit theaters in 2015. It...

Before we get to the rumor itself, AICN also have some info on the current state of all Star Wars projects at Disney right now. Harry Knowles' sources have confirmed that although there are lots of possibilities flying around and ideas in the air, the only movie that is in "hardcore active development" is Star Wars Episode VII. So all those Yoda, Han and Boba movies? Nothing is certain..yet. With that being said, he goes on to reveal that Drew Karpyshyn - the man that created the scenario and much of the dialogue in not only the Kotor game but many others too - might just be working on a sceenplay for a Knights Of The Old Republic (a tale set 4,000 years before the rise of the Galactic Empire) movie. Apparently Karpyshyn left Bioware back in February of last year to work on "screenwriting" and the rumor mill...

It was announced today that Star Wars: The Old Republic lead writer Drew Karpyshyn has left Bioware. In addition to being lead writer on Star Wars: The Old Republic he also wrote for both Mass Effect 1, Mass Effect 2, and contributed to Jade Empire, Baldur’s Gate and Neverwinter Nights.
Karpyshy posted the following messages on his blog:
“I’m leaving to focus more time and energy on my novels and other non-video game related projects. But even though I’ll no longer be working on games for BioWare, I’m not going to be severing all ties with them. Many of my closest friends still work at the company, and I’m also in the process of writing the next Star Wars: The Old Republic novel, though I can’t say too much about it yet.”

Star Wars – The Old Republic: Revan
Written by Drew Karpyshyn | Published by Titan Books | Format: Hardback, 320 pp
“There’s something out there. A juggernaut of evil bearing down to crush the Republic – unless one lone Jedi, shunned and reviled, can stop it.
Revan: hero, traitor, conqueror, villain, savior. A Jedi who left Coruscant to defeat Mandalorians—and returned a disciple of the dark side, bent on destroying the Republic. The Jedi Council gave Revan his life back, but the price of redemption was high. His memories have been erased. All that’s left are nightmares—and deep, abiding fear.
What exactly happened beyond the Outer Rim? Revan can’t quite remember, yet can’t entirely forget. Somehow he stumbled across a terrible secret that threatens the very existence of the Republic. With no idea what it is, or how to stop it, Revan may very well fail, for he’s...

Star Wars: Darth Bane: Dynasty Of Evil: A Novel Of The Old Republic by Drew Karpyshyn (Del Rey, hc, 320 pp, $27, due out December 8)
Dynasty Of Evil is the third installment in Drew Karpyshyn’s Darth Bane series; it’s a sequel to the earlier Path Of Destruction and Rule Of Two. The novel is set about 1,000 years before the events of George Lucas’ film saga, and continues to center on the life of Darth Bane. The first Order of the Sith has fallen, and although the Jedi think the Sith are extinct (don’t they always?), two remain: Darth Bane, Dark Lord of the Sith, and his female Sith apprentice Darth Zannah. Darth Bane is in his mid-40s, has shed his orbalisk armor and is dedicated to the goal of the Sith ruling the galaxy. However, he’s growing older and weaker, and the Rule of Two is...
