The ninth edition of UK film industry mentoring scheme Guiding Lights has named its crop of mentors and mentees.
This year’s group of mentors includes Brooklyn director John Crowley, Elizabeth producer Alison Owen, Atonement producer Tim Bevan and Carol producer Elizabeth Karlsen.
Joining them are 45 Years director Andrew Haigh, Notting Hill director Roger Michell, London To Brighton director Paul Andrew Williams, American Animals director Bart Layton, and Rush producer Andrew Eaton.

13 directors, producers and writers selected for Skillset, BFI backed initiative.
The mentees for the ninth edition of UK talent scheme Guiding Lights have been revealed.
A total of 13 directors, producers and writers have been selected from 230 applications for the scheme run by Lighthouse and Creative Skillset.
Five directors have been selected: Lucy Cohen, Meloni Poole, Nicky Lianos, Sarah McCarthy, and Sean Spencer.
The five producers are: Catryn Ramasut, Dominique Unsworth, Kamilla Kristiane Hodøl, Emilie Jouffroy, and Loran Dunn.
The three writers are: Demian Fox, Harry Macqueen, John Hickman.
Guiding Lights is funded by the BFI with National Lottery funds through the Skills Investment Fund.
Lisa Howe, Creative Skillset’s film manager commented: “We are delighted to continue with our support for this world-leading programme through the Film Skills Fund, allowing the most promising of rising film talent to benefit from the advice and guidance of top film professionals.”

Alice Lowe spent a decade getting ready to direct her first feature, but after taking two short films to Cannes, she started to worry that the clock was running out. She was pregnant with her first child and had spent the past decade thinking about her first feature in between acting gigs.
“If you’re a woman over 35, no one is going to hand you a free pass,” the actress-turned-filmmaker recently told IndieWire. “You have to work your ass off. That’s what I am doing now.”
The determination led her to complete “Prevenge,” a black-as-night horror-comedy in which she also stars. Lowe plays the heavily pregnant Ruth, who has recently lost her partner (and the baby’s father) in a seriously weird climbing accident. And while Ruth isn’t necessarily bent on revenge, her unborn child sure is, and the expectant mother comes to believe that her little bundle...

In November, The Independent and Sky Movies gave one independent film-maker the chance to make their own short movie, with a budget of £7,000 to shoot and edit it. Now, the winning director Nicky Lianos's dark comedy Dead Happy will premiere simultaneously on Sky Movies Indie HD, and at a screening at the Edinburgh International Film Festival (Eiff), on Sunday.
