How ‘Rebel Ridge’ became the Emmy frontrunner for Best TV Movie
Image
Is Rebel Ridge about to follow in the Emmy-winning footsteps of Quiz Lady, Weird: The Al Yankovic Story, and ... Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers?

The Netflix telefilm has held the No. 1 spot in Gold Derby's Best TV Movie odds all season long, despite increasingly fierce competition from the likes of Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy, Out of My Mind, Mountainhead, Am I Ok?, and The Gorge. Why? Perhaps Rebel Ridge is still coasting off its awards juice from earlier in the season, where it claimed prizes at the Critics Choice Awards (Best TV Movie) and Image Awards (Best Actor for Aaron Pierre), and scored nominations from the Producers Guild and Writers Guild, among others.

The action thriller stars Pierre as Terry Richmond, a former Marine who has a run-in with a small town's corrupt and racist police force, including Don Johnson's Chief Sandy Burnne. The cast is rounded out by AnnaSophia Robb,...

Oscars: Demi Moore creeps into Best Actress top 5 for ‘The Substance’
Image
There’s been a major shakeup in Gold Derby’s Oscar odds for Best Actress: The Substance star Demi Moore has jumped into our top five for the first time.

Coralie Fargeat‘s body-horror flick was a late-comer to the Oscars contest, only picking up serious steam in the past couple of months. Aside from Moore’s Best Actress bid, The Substance recently climbed into Gold Derby’s top 10 for Best Picture and top five for Best Director and Best Original Screenplay; the film is also predicted to win the race for Best Makeup & Hairstyling.

Moore is a one-time Emmy nominee for If These Walls Could Talk (1997), but she has yet to be recognized at the Academy Awards. The actress did pick up her third career Golden Globe nod for The Substance, as well as nominations from the Critics Choice Awards, Satellite Awards, and Independent Spirit Awards. Might her role...

Classic stars like Tom Cruise (#60), Hugh Grant (#57), and Leonardo DiCaprio (#17) were ranked lower than younger actors like Florence Pugh (#10), Jennifer Lawrence (#15), and Kristen Stewart (#16).

Emma Stone was ranked as the #2 greatest actor of the millennium by ‘The Independent,’ beating out iconic stars like Denzel Washington (#4), Nicole Kidman (#5), and Daniel Day-Lewis (#3). The top spot went to the late Philip Seymour Hoffman.

Golden Globe odds update: ‘Hacks’ overtakes ‘The Bear’ in top comedy race
Image
One month after “Hacks” surprised awards pundits everywhere by winning the Best Comedy Series trophy at the Emmys over “The Bear,” the Max laffer has now officially overtaken the FX cooking show in our Golden Globe odds.

The third season of “Hacks” currently enjoys 37/10 odds to win Best Comedy Series at the Globes, compared to the third season of “The Bear’s” second-place odds of 4/1. The former followed Deborah Vance’s (Jean Smart) journey of trying to become the first female late-night host, while the latter focused on the opening of Carmy’s (Jeremy Allen White) fine dining restaurant in Chicago.

These two front-runners are followed in our Golden Globe predictions by “Only Murders in the Building” Season 4 at 5/1 odds, “Abbott Elementary” Season 4 at 6/1 odds, “Shrinking” Season 2 at 9/1 odds, and “Palm Royale” Season 1 at 16/1 odds.

Oscar odds update: Zoe Saldana (‘Emilia Perez’) now predicted to win Best Supporting Actress
Image
There’s been a major shake-up in Gold Derby’s Oscar odds for Best Supporting Actress: Zoe Saldana (“Emilia Perez”) has officially broken her tie with Danielle Deadwyler (“The Piano Lesson”). Saldana now has leading 39/10 odds to win the trophy, compared to Deadwyler’s second-place odds of 4/1. But, don’t forget, it’s still quite early in this awards season, and things will undoubtedly keep changing as our Experts, Editors and Users continue to update their predictions.

Saldana (as undervalued lawyer Rita Moro Castro) and Karla Sofia Gascon (as titular crime boss Emilia Perez) are essentially co-leads in the Spanish-language French musical dramedy from writer/director Jacques Audiard. However, to avoid any potential vote-splitting, Saldana has opted to compete in the supporting actress category during this awards season, while Gascon is facing off in the lead actress race.
