The Number One Horror Movie on Netflix is an “Ambitious gem”
Image
Werewolves are popping off. While it was met with mixed reviews, there was a lot I liked about Leigh Whannell’s Wolf Man (now streaming on Peacock) this year. Next year, we have Robert Eggers’ Werewulf to look forward to. With Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Lily-Rose Depp, and Willem Dafoe, Werewulf is as much a werewolf movie as it is a Nosferatu reunion. Oh, and Steven C. Miller’s Werewolves, which was released last year, is worth a look, despite not quite getting the acclaim it deserved.

Werewolves, vampires, mummies – we are practically in the midst of a Universal renaissance. It’s a glorious time to be a horror fan, especially a horror fan raised on the movie monster classics. Better still, it’s always refreshing to see these classic tales refracted through a modern lens. One of the best to do so was a surprise Sundance hit that successfully managed a wide theatrical release.

Sniper Fire Action Comedy 'Under Fire' Trailer Starring Dylan Sprouse
Image
"Ready when you are..." Voltage Pictures has unveiled an official trailer for an action comedy movie called Under Fire, arriving to watch this summer. Not to be confused with the 1983 war movie also titled Under Fire. This is the next new movie from action genre director Steven C. Miller, who has been churning out lots of movies recently: Marauders, Arsenal, First Kill, Line of Duty, Margaux, and Werewolves just last year. Under Fire unfolds in the scorching heat of the Mexico border, where rival drug dealers Griff & Abbott arrive at a remote drop point for a routine drug deal. When the exchange goes down, both reveal undercover badges — Griff is FBI, Abbott is DEA — and neither knew they were working the same case. Before they can react, a sniper rains down bullets, killing the cartel members and leaving the two agents pinned behind their vehicle. Now, Griff & Abbott must set...

The 15 Best ‘Die Hard’ Knockoffs Ever
Image
There are lots of great movies out there, but only a few can claim to have created their own genre. John McTiernan’s action classic “Die Hard” is one of them. Sure, it didn’t come from out of nowhere — the premise of villains taking hostages, and a hero taking them down from within dates back at least as far as the Oscar-winning John Huston thriller “Key Largo,” starring Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall — but it put all the pieces together in one lucrative, easy to copy framework. And boy, did Hollywood copy it. Over and over and over again.

Yes, in the wake of “Die Hard” there have been borderline countless riffs on the same basic premise: Bad guys take over a thingy, a good guy just happens to be at the thingy, the good guy foils all the bad guys’ plans. Just change the thingy, and/or change the heroes/villains,...

10 Great Werewolf Movies From the Past Decade!
Image
Werewolf movies have been a staple of horror for decades, embodying the primal fear of losing control and becoming a beast. Whether it’s the gothic tragedy of The Wolf Man (1941) or the groundbreaking practical effects of An American Werewolf in London (1981), these films have cemented themselves as cultural icons.

But here’s the thing about werewolf movies—they rarely go stale. Even the bad ones have a certain charm, tapping into the visceral thrill of seeing humans transform into monsters under the glow of a full moon. There’s something timeless about this subgenre, whether it leans into campy B-movie territory, deep psychological horror, or full-throttle gore.

With Wolf Man (2025) now in theaters (and not doing too well), it feels like the perfect time to take a closer look at some of the most notable werewolf films from the 2010s to today. As someone who loves this genre so...

Werewolves (2024) Review
Image
There’s something delightfully audacious about a film that knows exactly what it is and revels in the absurdity of its premise, and Werewolves certainly begins with that promise. Directed by Steven C. Miller, this dystopian action-horror hybrid introduces a world where humanity is plunged into chaos every time a supermoon rises, triggering a lycanthropic pandemic. It’s a premise that practically howls for gleeful mayhem, and yet, despite flashes of potential, the film frustratingly trips over its own paws.

Frank Grillo leads the pack as Dr. Wesley Marshall, a molecular biologist moonlighting as a rugged action hero, a trope so gleefully self-aware it borders on parody. Grillo has a natural charisma and an ability to elevate even the most ludicrous of scenarios, which serves him well here. Wesley, a man of science and shotguns, finds himself trying to protect his late brother’s family from the werewolf plague while...

Werewolves review – post-apocalyptic lupine horror makes an enemy of the moonlight
Steven C. Miller
In Steven C Miller’s intermittently effective film a supermoon turns those exposed to its light into werewolves – or rather people wearing hairy Halloween masks

Intermittently effective but grindingly repetitive, this lupine-themed horror posits a world where nearly a billion people have died after a supermoon turned anyone exposed to its light into a werewolf. A full year has passed, and in an unnamed city folks are preparing for yet another supermoon-werewolf apocalypse by securing their homes with booby traps and arming themselves to the teeth.

Sensitive yet studly former soldier turned scientist Wesley (Frank Grillo) takes leave of his widowed sister-in-law Lucy (Ilfenesh Hadera) and her daughter Emma as he heads off to help out in a special experiment. At a facility nearby, a team of boffins have developed a kind of “moonblock” that is designed to stop the reflected rays from Earth’s largest satellite from turning people into snarling,...

Starring Frank Grillo (The Grey), Katrina Law (Arrow), and Lou Diamond Phillips (Courage Under Fire), this nail-biting film pits humanity against an uncontrollable force of nature unleashed during a supermoon.

Leading a rapid response team, Marshall must join forces with scientists Dr. Aranda (Phillips) and Dr. Amy Chen (Law) to find a cure before the cycle of destruction spirals out of control. ‘Werewolves’ Review
Image
Stars: Frank Grillo, Ilfenesh Hadera, Kamdynn Gary, Lou Diamond Phillips, Katrina Law, James Michael Cummings | Written by Matthew Kennedy | Directed by Steven C. Miller

Werewolves, originally titled Year 2, begins a year after a supermoon turned everyone who was exposed to it into a werewolf. For those who aren’t familiar with the term, a supermoon is a full moon that occurs when the moon is at the closest point to Earth, they have a dramatic effect on things like tides, but this one goes further than that. It unlocks mankind’s latent werewolf gene, causing unimaginable chaos and death. And now it’s about to happen again.

When we first meet Wesley Marshal he’s busy setting up defences at the home of his sister-in-law Lucy and her young daughter, Emma. They need the help because Wesley’s brother was a firefighter, killed in the line of duty during the first transformation.

Here’s How Days of our Lives’ Dan Feuerriegel Supports Independent Horror Film
Image
A lot of soap actors have moonlighted for other projects over the years including Christmas films and horror movies among other genres. But sometimes an actor just wants to support their friends who are pursuing projects, and Days of Our Lives star Dan Feuerriegel, who plays Ej on the soap, is one of them. He recently used his social media platforms to help promote a cool werewolf film.

He Had a Howl Lot of Fun

While it doesn’t appear that Feuerriegel has anything to do with the new horror film Werewolves, he certainly helped promote it by posting several pics on Instagram and writing, “Unleash the beast!

Director Steven C. Miller Shares "Surreal" Experience Working With Bruce Willis
Image
Director Steven C. Miller is riding high after the release of his action-horror flick Werewolves this past weekend, and who can blame him? After all, he did get to work with Frank Grillo – one of the greats of the genre – but long before that, Miller also got the chance to work with another action star for what would be some of his final films: Bruce Willis. Now, he’s revealing what it was like to direct someone he grew up watching, which was an experience he calls "surreal."

Miller and Willis teamed up for three movies as the action hero was entering the twilight years of his career; 2015’s Extraction, 2016’s Marauders, and 2017’s First Kill. Speaking with Variety, the director told the outlet that the duo "had so much fun” together" and that they got along "beautifully." He would then go on to relay a story about Willis that...

Action Horror Movie 'Werewolves' Lands Divisive Score on Rotten Tomatoes
Image
The reviews and Rotten Tomatoes rating of this year’s action horror movie Werewolves are now in. So, is the Frank Grillo-led to the perfect action B-movie to end the year? Or does the horror outing not go far enough with its undeniably gripping premise? Well, according to the review aggregator site, Werewolves is a little bit of both, with the movie debuting with a divisive score of 50% from critics alongside 45% on the Popcornmeter.

MovieWeb’s own Greg Archer found himself very much in the Werewolves admirer camp, and was quickly enamored with the “throwback” approach to the action horror outing.

“This is the kind of throwback ’80s horror film fans have been waiting for. The fangs come out. Sharp claws cut deep. Blood spills with reckless abandon. Despite some trips along the way, this is a freakishly fun film, anchored by a classic horror movie look, exceptional use of practical effects,...

Nicolas Cage's Love of Metal Music Is Embedded in His Acting
Image
There's nothing like geeking out over heavy metal music together to break the ice before shooting a film. In a recent interview with MovieWeb for his action-horror film Werewolves, director Steven C. Miller recalled his 2017 collaboration with Nicolas Cage in the action film Arsenal and how, much to his surprise, he and Cage found common ground in metal. “I don't know that many people would know that Nicolas Cage is a huge metal head,” Miller told MovieWeb in a recent interview.

“I think in our first conversations, we were just talking about metal bands for like an hour. I don't know that we talked about the movie that we were going to do. He’d flown me in to meet with him, to sort of see if I was the guy for the job.” Miller went on to say:

“We talked about music for the first hour before we even got to the movie.

Box Office: ‘Moana 2’ continues breaking records with $52 million second weekend, ‘Y2K’ disappoints with $2.1 million opening
Image
Sunday update: Walt Disney Studios’ “Moana 2” continued to dominate the box office in its second weekend, taking in a projected $52 million domestically as its worldwide total reached $600 million. It shattered “Frozen II’s” post-Thanksgiving weekend record, which grossed $35.1 million in the first weekend of December, 2019. Universal’s “Wicked” is second with $36.4 million, followed by “Gladiator II” with $12.6 million, “Pushpa 2 — The Rule” with $9.3 million, and “Red One” with $7 million. Among new openers, “Solo Leveling: ReAwakening” made a splash with $2.4 million and A24’s “Y2K” disappointed with just $2.1 million.

Friday update: As expected, there won’t be much movement in the post-Thanksgiving box office rankings. “Moana 2” is projected to hold the top spot again, taking in around $60 million, which would be the highest numbers ever for the first week of December. The current record-holder is 2019’s “Frozen II,” which grossed $35.1 million. “Wicked” is poised to come in second place with around $32 million,...

‘Werewolves’ Review: Frank Grillo in an Extremely Basic Lean-and-Mean Werewolf-as-Zombie Movie
Image
“Werewolves” is your basic, everyday lean-and-mean dystopian werewolf-as-zombie action thriller, with elements lifted from the pandemic and the “Purge” films. It’s not a good movie, but it’s a tight little time passer. Frank Grillo, who’s at the center of it (playing a ripped bruiser who is also…a molecular biologist!), has a way of making any pulp movie better. He’s like a brainy Charles Bronson. And the plot is simplicity itself, and efficiency too: On the night of a supermoon (that’s when the full moon comes closest to Earth), people all over the globe are transformed into towering werewolves if they look at the moon for so much as one second. Talk about a good reason to stay home and stream something.

How are the werewolves? Cheesy in a fun way. As in self-consciously old-fashioned, or maybe just lavishly threadbare. A lot of people now...

‘Werewolves’ Director on Creating a Gun-Crazy Werewolf Apocalypse and the Joy of Directing Some of Bruce Willis’ Last Movies
Image
Steven C. Miller has directed a movie with a concept that is, simply put, fuckin’ cool.

“Werewolves,” written by Matthew Kennedy and now in theaters via Briarcliff Entertainment, is about a world where the annual supermoon turns everyone outside into huge, hungry werewolves that rip apart anyone in their path. Luckily, Frank Grillo plays a ripped scientist who is close to a cure, but also has to worry about keeping his family safe during yet another supermoon. There’s tons of in-your-face werewolf action, big guns and lots of blood and guts in this throwback flick that would feel right at home in a drive-in double feature.

Miller has plenty of experience with both action and horror films, directing movies like “Mauraders,” “First Kill” and “Silent Night” and working with big names like Sylvester Stallone and Nicolas Cage. He spoke with Variety about the joy of practical effects, how microbudget...

Review: Werewolves Satiates Our Hunger for Werewolf Combat
Image
Steven C. Miller’s lycan action-thriller Werewolves is a little bit Dog Soldiers, a dash of The Purge, and a decent amount of howl-and-gun excitement. It’s high on indie spirits but not clear of shortcomings. Miller’s further return to the horror genre after 2022’s smarthouse slasher Margaux feels tethered to his prior run of shoot-em-up Bruce Willis collaborations and too serious for its good. Legendary SFX artist Alec Gillis designs all the film’s snarling monsters, a highlight of Werewolves, but something else is missing from the experience that prevents this scrappy creature feature from breaking into the furry subgenre’s upper echelon.

Frank Grillo stars as Wesley Marshall, the hunky molecular biologist for a rapid response team trying to cure the world of a global werewolf event. Once a year, a supermoon alters human DNA and turns anyone into a mythical wolf-person. Under program honcho Dr. Aranda...

Fur-Gotten Classics: 7 Underseen Werewolf Movies Worth Biting Into
Image
Presented by Steven C. Miller’s Werewolves, Bloody Disgusting is looking to the stars and howling at the moon with Werewolves Week. Today, Rachel Reeves takes a bite out of seven under-seen werewolf movies you don’t want to miss.

Werewolves have long prowled the shadows of horror cinema, their natural knack for a meaty metaphor and fur-clad ferocity captivating audiences for generations. While classics like An American Werewolf in London, The Howling, and The Wolf Man often lead the crowded werewolf genre pack, it also teems with lesser-known gems waiting to sink their teeth into new fans.

From campy cult favorites to atmospheric thrillers brimming with eerie allure, the enduring appeal of the werewolf metaphor lies in its raw exploration of duality—the primal versus the civilized, man versus the beast. It’s a vessel for themes of transformation, rage, addiction and identity, resonating with anyone who has wrestled with their inner demons.

‘Werewolves’ Review – A ’90s Style Action Horror Movie That Delivers On Its Title
Image
Director Steven C. Miller‘s latest, the action-horror creature feature Werewolves, drew early comparisons to The Purge based on its premise and its star, Frank Grillo. From its opening sequence that sees Lou Diamond Phillip‘s Dr. Aranda deliver the proper setup and worldbuilding for the madness ahead, however, it’s clear that Werewolves has more in common with the “anything goes” spirit of ’90s action horror films like Full Eclipse, Project Metal Beast, and even Blade. While Miller takes the action and werewolf effects with utmost seriousness, Werewolves just wants you to have fun. More importantly, it’s the type of movie that delivers exactly what’s promised: a whole lot of snarling, drooling werewolves.

Written by Matthew Kennedy, Werewolves introduces a world where a supermoon triggered a gene mutation that transforms people into werewolves if they step out into the moonlight. One year later, with another supermoon looming,...

How ‘Werewolves’ Director Steven C. Miller Brought Dozens of Werewolves to the Big Screen [Interview]
Image
Silent Night director Steven C. Miller‘s latest doesn’t just feature a single werewolf on the prowl, but dozens in action horror movie Werewolves. It’s the type of setup that’s exciting for werewolf fans yet daunting in scope due to the stunts and creature work required.

It’s also exactly what excited Miller about Matthew Kennedy’s script. “The writer just brought it to me pretty early on, and so I fell in love with it instantly,” Miller tells Bloody Disgusting. “I couldn’t believe how much mayhem was happening in the script, especially with the werewolves. I was baffled that we were going to try to get this many werewolves on screen. So, I fell in love with it right away. The process really was trying to find people that actually wanted to make it. Because I’m sure you’re aware that in Hollywood, for some reason,...

Werewolves, Not Swear-Wolves: When the Werewolf Movie Meets the Horror-Comedy
Image
Presented by Steven C. Miller’s Werewolves, Bloody Disgusting is looking to the stars and howling at the moon with Werewolves Week. Today, Jenn Adams takes a look at the funny side of the werewolf sub-genre: the hairy horror-comedy.

The act of becoming a werewolf is deadly serious—arguably horror’s most painful mutation. The body writhes and screams while elongating and sprouting fur. Claws appear where fingernails once were and the face becomes an animal-like snout equipped with whiskers, fur, and gnashing fangs. Given the screaming poor souls we see undergo this transformation, it’s safe to say the process hurts. So why then are so many modern werewolf movies played for laughs?

Yes, some entries in this curious subgenre are quite dramatic, examining the duality of man or female sexuality, but other titles are among the genre’s most beloved and successful horror comedies. Like peanut butter and chocolate,...

'Werewolves' Review | Bloody Fun at a Fast Pace
Image
In Werewolves, director Steven C. Miller delivers a nonstop action-horror thrill ride spanning one diabolical night where the terror never stops. This is the kind of throwback ’80s horror film fans have been waiting for. The fangs come out. Sharp claws cut deep. Blood spills with reckless abandon. Despite some trips along the way, this is a freakishly fun film, anchored by a classic horror movie look, exceptional use of practical effects, and a gripping action-infused story that keeps the audience invested in the drama.

Here's the lowdown: One year ago, a supermoon turned many people into werewolves. It wasn’t a one-time event. Twelve months later, everybody is at risk once again. Seems that the supermoon event triggered a dormant gene in every human being on the planet, meaning that anybody who entered the moonlight the previous year will inevitably transform into a werewolf for yet another night. Chaos...

Interview: Frank Grillo and Steven C. Miller Tear Into Werewolves!
Image
Werewolves seem to be going through a bit of a comeback. From The Wolfman to The Beast Within, it certainly feels like there’s more happening within the subgenre than ever before. Yet they do often feel very…samey. They often involve a man being bitten by a mysterious creature and then having to fight the urges of his werewolf counterpart. This is why it’s so exciting that we’re finally getting a film involving Werewolves that breaks the mold and does something different. And boy oh boy is it different. With an entire planet filled with Werewolves and practical FX that are sure to satisfy, this is the Werewolf movie we’ve always wanted. You can check out my glowing review of Werewolves Here.

I was fortunate enough to talk to star Frank Grillo and director Steven C. Miller about all things Werewolves. Grillo is always the man...

Werewolves Review: One Heck of a Fun Ride!
Image
Plot: A supermoon event has triggered a latent gene in every human on the planet, turning anyone who entered the moonlight into a werewolf for that one night. Chaos ensued and close to a billion people died. Now, a year later, the Supermoon is back…

Review: It feels like werewolves are going through a bit of a resurgence. It may not be as crazy as slashers in the early 80s or zombie films in the 2000s, but it’s hard to deny. From The Beast Within, Werewolves Within, to The Wolf Man, lycanthropic endeavors seem on the rise. And who better to lead some Werewolf mayhem than action star extraordinaire, Frank Grillo! In Werewolves, a supermoon event turned anyone who touched moonlight into a werewolf one year prior. Billions of people died and it was a global tragedy. Now, the Supermoon is back and the world must prepare for the monster mayhem to come.

Looking Back on the Evolution of Werewolf Designs in Film
Image
Presented by Steven C. Miller’s Werewolves, Bloody Disgusting is looking to the stars and howling at the moon with Werewolves Week. Today, Luiz H.C. explores the evolution of the werewolf/wolfman throughout cinema history.

Werewolf stories are much, much older than most folks seem to realize, with some of the earliest examples of lycanthropy dating all the way back to ancient Greece (though some scholars argue that wolfmen were already present in the Epic of Gilgamesh). That’s why I’ve always found it fascinating that much of what we’d consider to be the basis for modern werewolf mythology and iconography was actually made up by genre filmmakers.

From full moon transformations to pentagrams marking potential victims, werewolf lore is continuously being expanded by screenwriters attempting to make sense of thousands of years of oral tradition. And in honor of Steven C. Miller’s Werewolves in theaters...

Early December Weekend Box Office Won’t Go Off A Cliff: ‘Moana 2’ Eyes Record $60M – Preview
Image
Moana 2‘s “Hauʻoli lākou” aka good luck continues this weekend as it eyes a $60M second frame.

For the post-Thanksgiving first weekend of December, that’s an absolute mind-blowing record for a No. 1-ranking title, whether holdover or new release. The previous high for this frame was in 2019, when the third weekend of Frozen 2 cleared first place with a third-weekend $35.1M take, -59%. Understand, this coming weekend is traditionally a dead zone as audiences, particularly women, get distracted by holiday activities.

Moana 2‘s second weekend is looking to be around -57%; the first 2016 film eased by 50% in the post-Thanksgiving period with a $28.2M second weekend.

Given the prospects for bad business during the post-Thanksgiving weekend, studios sidestep any tentpole openings; the last notable debut was in 2003, when Warner Bros’ Tom Cruise epic The Last Samurai posted $24.2M. Last year at this time there was AMC Theatres’ Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé,...

'Werewolves' Director Targets Major Horror Franchises Next
Image
If indie film titan Steven C. Miller has his way, he could be at the helm of (yet another) reboot of two of the most iconic horror franchises in history, Halloween and Friday the 13th. In a recent interview with MovieWeb discussing his new horror thriller, Werewolves, Miller was candid about a not-so-hidden wish he holds about diving into the perfect kind of film project. “Obviously, it's been done so many times with Halloween, but I just love that character so much that I would love to take a stab at Halloween. I mean, another one would be Friday the 13th.” He added:

“Both of those [have] such iconic characters [Michael Myers and Jason]. To be able to try to put my name in the ring for something like that would be really fun, and to try to give it something that hasn't been done would also be a super big...

How ‘Werewolves’ Reminded Practical Effects Legend Alec Gillis of Working on ‘Aliens’ [Interview]
Image
A supermoon triggers a latent gene, transforming anyone and everyone whose skin touches moonlight into a feral beast in Steven C. Miller’s (Silent Night) Werewolves. That premise alone highlights the scope of ambition and challenges for an independent action-horror feature: Frank Grillo fighting his way through hordes of werewolves requires a lot of stunt and creature work. Luckily, Werewolves boasts a lot of talent on screen and off in delivering just that, including SFX legend and werewolf designer/effects creator Alec Gillis of Studio Gillis.

Gillis’ expansive career has given horror fans no shortage of cherished movie monsters, from the Aliens to Predator to the eerie monster in Smile and Smile 2. Yet despite such an impressive career, Werewolves marks a major first for the artist. “Technically, it’s my first werewolf. Although,” Gillis points to a mask in his office when speaking with Bloody Disgusting via Zoom, “this...

Women of the Full Moon: Female Werewolves in Horror Cinema
Image
Presented by Steven C. Miller’s Werewolves, Bloody Disgusting is looking to the stars and howling at the moon with Werewolves Week. Today, Jenn Adams sprouts claws and explores the history of werewolf women in horror cinema.

Werewolf folklore has existed since the dawn of recorded history, with each diverse culture creating its own variation of humanoid wolves who emerge from the skin of seemingly ordinary men. Reflecting the dual nature of humanity, most tales involve deception and betrayal, with creatures presenting as friends and neighbors before transforming into beasts under the light of a full moon. Modern interpretations have begun to use this horrific allegory as a vehicle through which to explore the experience of womanhood.

Female werewolves often exhibit uncomfortably aggressive sexuality and buck the expectations of well-behaved women. Many iterations feel quite liberating and present the female werewolf as an aspirational goddess embracing carnal desire, while others...

6 Iconic Werewolf Deaths in Film That’ll Make You Howl at the Moon
Image
Presented by Steven C. Miller’s Werewolves, Bloody Disgusting is looking to the stars and howling at the moon with Werewolves Week. Today, Luiz H.C. grabs a handful of silver bullets as he revisits six iconic werewolf deaths in horror history.

Personally, I’ve always found monster movies to be more thrilling when they give the protagonists a fighting chance. This tiny sliver of narrative hope usually comes in the form of a specific weakness that can be exploited in order to defeat whatever creature happens to be attacking, with one of the most famous examples being werewolves’ “allergic reaction” towards silver – with even young children being aware of this fatal weakness.

However, there’s more than one way to skin a cat (or a lycanthrope), and in honor of Steven C. Miller’s upcoming Werewolves, which depicts a world where a Supermoon event has turned millions of people into monsters,...

"The Purge Meets Werewolves": Frank Grillo Explains His New Horror Movie & Why They Had To "Tone It Down"
Image
Frank Grillo hypes up the violence in his new horror movie Werewolves. Werewolves is a creature-based horror film about a duo of scientists who are working to stop a mutation that transforms people into werewolves a full year after they encounter a super-moon. The film is directed by Steven C. Miller and written by Matthew Kennedy. It features a leading cast including Grillo, Katrina Law, Ilfenesh Hadera, James Michael Cummings, Lou Diamond Phillips, Kamdynn Gary, Lydia Styslinger, and James Kyson. Werewolves is set for release this Friday, December 6.

In an exclusive interview with Screen Rant, Grillo reveals why Werewolves had to be dialed back from its original version. Upon reading the script, Grillo reports calling the director and saying that the film was like "The Purge meets werewolves." Because of the level of violence in the movie, the Werewolves team had to "kind of tone it down." They also had...

Werewolves' Steven C. Miller & Frank Grillo Talk Mixing Action & Horror, Genre Influences & The Purge 6
Image
Frank Grillo and Steven C. Miller are bringing a unique twist to an iconic horror monster in Werewolves. After making his debut with the grisly horror movie Automation Transformation, Miller went on to find success directing both horror and action projects, including 2012's Silent Night, a remake of the 1984 cult classic, and multiple Bruce Willis movies, including 2015's Extraction and 2017's First Kill. Grillo is similarly known for his work in both genres, namely starring in multiple installments of The Purge franchise and playing Brock Rumlow/Crossbones in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Rick Flag Sr. in James Gunn's upcoming DC Universe reboot.

Grillo stars in Werewolves as Wesley Marshall, a biological scientist and former special ops soldier studying the supermoon event that occurred one year before the film's start, in which every human on the planet had a latent gene triggered that turned millions into the titular creatures...

Werewolves Star Frank Grillo and Director Steven C. Miller Talk the Action-Horror Banger (Interview)
Image
Directed by Steven C. Miller and starring Frank Grillo, Werewolves follows a group of scientists who are trying to stop a mutation that turns people into werewolves during a super moon. Blending action and horror, Werewolves is the type of movie that delivers exactly what it promises: 90 minutes of exhilarating, turn-your-brain-off fun.

Steven C. Miller Werewolves Interview

Yet as influential as the werewolf subgenre is for horror, it’s not one that sees many new entries. You might see dozens of vampire movies or zombie movies in any given year, but very few — if any — werewolf films. Werewolves director Steven C. Miller explains why he thinks more filmmakers don’t attempt to tackle the werewolf subgenre:

“First of all, they’re just hard to make,” says Miller. “They’re difficult to get right, so I think that deters a lot of studios — even independent financiers — from trying to make them...

Frank Grillo Shares Candid Thoughts About 'The Purge 6'
Image
Danger and death are surrounding Frank Grillo. On screen that is. Either way, The Purge franchise actor has a lot to say about it. He enters James Gunn’s new Dcu, lending his voice as Rick Flag Sr. in Creature Commandos (debuting on Max in December), then in Peacemaker Season 2 and again in the highly anticipated Superman reboot, which drops next summer. The ever-busy actor also headlines Steven C. Miller’s Werewolves, a trippy horror romp he calls “quite a journey,” about a supermoon event that sparks a mutation that turns people into werewolves. Ironically, he once pitched it as "The Purge meets werewolves." And he still gets asked about being in The Purge 6, to which he has a candid reply:

They talk about The Purge 6. I don't know if I'll be part of it, but I mean, it'd be crazy not to have me, I think.

True. The Tulsa King actor played Sgt.

The Next Big Action Stars Predicted by Steven C. Miller
Image
There are only two young actors that director Steven C. Miller truly sees as emerging into great action heroes in the near future: Dylan Sprouse and Mason Gooding. Miller, whose action-horror film Werewolves debuts Dec. 6, directs Sprouse & Gooding in Under Fire, an upcoming film that tracks two very different men undercover — a DEA agent named Abbott (Sprouse) and an FBI agent called Griff (Gooding). They pose as rival drug dealers at the Mexico border. Miller, who recently spoke to MovieWeb about his new film, is confident Sprouse and Gooding will surprise audiences and be breakout stars in the action genre, noting:

“You kind of get those vibes with certain actors that you're like, ‘Okay, these guys have that potential to be action stars.' And they do. They just… their vibe, their presence on screen… when you put the camera onto them and how they look on camera… there's just...

The Superman Trailer Made Frank Grillo Want to Cry
Image
Frank Grillo has been candid about his feelings after catching a glimpse of the yet-to-be released official trailer for James Gunn’s Superman. In a recent interview with MovieWeb to discuss his upcoming horror film, Werewolves, Grillo admitted he got goosebumps when he watched the trailer for the long-awaited Dcu reboot film prior to the trailer's public release. And when asked what elements of the trailer specifically sparked those good vibes, the actor said:

“I'll tell you what it was. You know, I knew Christopher Reeve a little bit. We had the same acting coach in New York many, many years ago. That movie, the Christopher Reeve Superman movies, were what I grew up with. And what Gunn has done with this Superman, and you'll see, is he's brought that element into the modern-day Superman.”

Take note: the Superman trailer is scheduled to drop in theaters by mid- to late December,...
