Wes Craven at an event for Scream 4 (2011)
The Hills Have Eyes (2006) Revisited – Horror Movie Review
Wes Craven at an event for Scream 4 (2011)
Earlier today, we took a look back the Wes Craven-directed 2005 thriller Red Eye… so we figured, why not follow that up by taking a look at a remake of a Craven horror film that was released the year after Red Eye reached theatres? The movie we’re taking about is the 2006 version of The Hills Have Eyes (watch it Here), a remake of Craven’s 1977 classic. It’s time for this one to be revisited, and you can hear all about it in the embed above.

While the original film was written and directed by Craven, Alexandre Aja directed the remake from a screenplay he wrote with Grégory Levasseur. Here’s the synopsis: Bob Carter and his wife Ethel, along with five other members of the family, are heading for San Diego with their camper van. An accident strands them in the desert and while two of the men go for help,...

FEARnet Series “Holliston” Was a One-of-a-Kind Sitcom for Horror Fans [TV Terrors]
Image
For this month’s installment of “TV Terrors” we revisit the horror-comedy sitcom “Holliston,” which aired for two seasons on the now-defunct FEARnet in 2012 and 2013.

Adam Green and Joe Lynch are two filmmakers and genuine horror fans who have given their fellow horror fans so much over the years, including some great movies like Mayhem, the Hatchet franchise, and Frozen, as well as the upcoming Suitable Flesh. Among their many contributions to the genre was their horror sitcom, “Holliston.”

The best way to describe the series for the uninitiated would be if “Spaced” had a head on collision with “Friends” and was re-attached into a weird, funny monster. Originally premiering as the first original series on the now defunct FEARnet in 2012, “Holliston” is set in the small town of Holliston, Massachusetts, and stars Adam Green as “Adam” and Joe Lynch as “Joe.” Both stars play fictional versions of themselves that are best friends and roommates.

Victor Crowley Review
Ever since “oldies” like Scream entered their “retrospective anniversary articles” phase, slasher cinema has failed to regain control of genre airwaves like those 80’s mainstays of pulp and cultural circumstance. Your still-relevant Friday The 13th or Child’s Play franchises. To that, I’ve always considered Adam Green’s Hatchet an exception to trends. My first taste of Victor Crowley’s bayou legend struck me as – pound for pound – one of the post-2000 era’s gnarliest slasher rebirths. Hatchet II and Hatchet III, two underrated indie continuations, only strengthened my arguments. Count me a ranking axe-wielder in the Hatchet Army, and a continual fan of Green’s work (Frozen chills to the core, Digging Up The Marrow blasts creativity).

Unfortunately, this just makes 2018’s Victor Crowley a bigger disappointment in my eyes.

Parry Shen returns as Andrew – the lone survivor of Hatch III’s massacre – and is duped into returning...

Victor Crowley – Review
Review by Mark Longden

Fans of slasher cinema will probably be aware that this is the fourth movie in the “Hatchet” series, written or directed or both by Adam Green. He’s been going for a while, making TV (Fear.Net’s “Holliston”, and a few horror documentary shows) and movies – a handful of thrillers and short films, as well as this.

“Hatchet” is a comedy-horror series about Victor Crowley, a deformed fellow who lives in the swamps outside New Orleans, and kills people with a…well, you know. If you’re like me, and this is your first toe dipped into the waters of Mr Green and his cinematic universe, well, I don’t think there’s a lot of backstory to worry about. Large mute monster, completely indestructible, laughs, gore, slasher movies. So let’s get into it!

As you might be able to guess from the name,...

You’ll Come To Pieces Over The First Five Minutes Of Victor Crowley
Although many actors have become typecast or mainstays in the horror genre (that’s certainly not a bad thing because it can keep you employed for life), there aren’t as many who can say that they’ve inhabited more than one iconic role. Fortunately for Kane Hodder, the former Jason Voorhees has kept lovers of the macabre entertained in recent years as Victor Crowley in the Hatchet series of films. Granted, the latter is less mainstream than the former, but our point remains valid.

Now, with the release of Victor’s eponymous adventure imminent, the folks at Coming Soon have decided to share the first five minutes from the flick. As we can see, the lovebirds played by Jonah Ray and Kelly Vrooman don’t fare very well, but it’s the cameo made by Tyler Mane that put a smile on my face. As the more knowledgeable among you will know,...

Victor Crowley Trailer: The Hatchet Killer Returns to His Swamp
Adam Green arrives at the world premiere of his film FROZEN. Sundance Film Festival - Park City, UT January 2010.
The Hatchet franchise is back in a big, bloody way as the new, full-length trailer for Victor Crowley has arrived online. Director Adam Green pulled a fast one over on horror fans late last year by revealing he filmed Hatchet 4 in secret by screening the movie for a crowd of fans. To hype up the release, we have a super fun and violent new trailer for Victor Crowley which is loaded down with new footage.

Slasher movies aren't huge right now, but Hatchet, even though the movies are very low-budget and campy, has tried to keep the genre alive. Victor Crowley looks like it's doing a fine job and,...

The new teaser trailer for Victor Crowley (see below) sees the return of Parry Shen as Andrew Yong, the (supposedly) sole survivor of the Honey Island Swamp massacres, who inevitably must face the monster that he managed to escape, Victor Crowley.

Following its surprise premiere at the ArcLight Cinema, Adam Green will take Victor Crowley to select Us theaters this October for a road show tour that will...

Hatchet 4 Announced, New Victor Crowley Movie Made in Secret
Hatchet (2006)
Dark Sky Films proudly announces Victor Crowley, the surprise fourth film in the fan-favorite Hatchet franchise. Kept tightly under wraps for over two years, the slasher reboot unexpectedly debuted tonight at Hollywood's ArcLight Cinema, shocking fans, celebrities, and industry professionals who gathered this evening to celebrate at an event coined as a "Hatchet 10th Anniversary Celebration."

Set a decade after the events of the series' first three films, Victor Crowley reunites Hatchet mainstays Kane Hodder (Friday the 13th Jason Voorhees) and Parry Shen (Better Luck Tomorrow) for an all-new, horrifying journey into the haunted, blood-drenched bayou.

In 2007, forty-nine people were brutally torn to pieces in Louisiana's Honey Island Swamp. Over the past decade, lone survivor Andrew Yong's claims that local legend Victor Crowley was responsible for the horrific massacre have been met with great controversy, but when a twist of fate puts him back at the scene of the tragedy,...

Now Available On Blu-ray – Holliston The Complete Second Season
I don’t have the world’s greatest relationship with Holliston. I remember reading about it, prior to the airing of season one, and being excited. Then I remember the disappointment I experienced when finally having the ability to watch it, seeing as Fearnet has a pretty limited reach, as far as availability goes. All of the elements were there, but it just didn’t click with me. One of the main problems I had, was that for the type of show that it was, it was way too long. Shows that feature the sitcom format should never go on for any longer than thirty minutes. By the forty minute mark, the novelty has worn off, and some viewers are beyond ready for the episode to end. That’s not to say that there wasn’t some entertaining moments, it’s just that whatever momentum it created, was ruined by the excessively long running time.

Nurse Yourself to Attention With Our Top N.I.L.F.s
The upcoming February 7th release of Nurse 3D has everyone buzzing, and why not? With Paz de la Huerta and Katrina Bowden heating up the screen, how can you go wrong? To celebrate, we bring you Five Beautifully Broken Nurses.

Now, of course you have the standard fare, the all-star psycho nurses like Annie Wilkes in Misery, Nurse Ratched from One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, everyone's favorite nurse to hang around with in Halloween II, and that beastly bunch of corpse-like caregivers from Silent Hill. But we thought we'd go a bit off the beaten path on this one.

First, some honorable mentions. We're going to categorize these nurses as NILFs, but we've got two different types of NILFs. We've got the traditional "Nurses I'd Like to... Fornicate" (with, haha!) and "Nurses I'd Like to Forget" for the really disturbing ones.

Who could forget that Victor Crowley's mother was...

Kristian’s Favorites of 2013
*Editor’s Note: As mentioned earlier this week, we decided to try something different with our “End of the Year” list, opting for our favorite horror experiences in 2013 over a top movies list. We hope you’ve enjoyed reading our writers’ picks, which not only includes movies, but performances, events, and collectibles. Wrapping up our Favorites of 2013 is Kristian Hanson, who shares some of his favorite movies, collectibles, and TV shows:

The Conjuring:

Taking a look back at 2013, the horror community was privileged to a great deal of quality film and horror collectibles. For my pick of my favorite horror film this year, I would have to place The Conjuring at the top of my list. I grew up with stories from my mother about these case files and when I finally got to see the film, James Wan did not disappoint. The spooky camerawork and atmosphere really placed me inside of the film,...

Kick Off Your Weekend with The Real Housewives of Horror
A fun video that we missed yesterday during all the Halloween festivities popped onto our radar today so if you're suffering from the post-holiday blues, why not spend a few minutes with "The Real Housewives of Horror"?

The video comes to us from Nerdist's YouTube Channel, and it follows five of the most murderous women in the country as they enjoy the gory and gruesome lifestyle that only horror can provide.

The cast is comprised of Brea Grant, Harley Morenstein, Briana Lane, Jessika Van, Brooke Seguin, Zack Pearlman, and Laura Ortiz. It's produced by Nerdist and Super Creative; executive produced by Kevin Pereira, Yaniv Fituci, and Ziv Haklili; line produced by Carrie LeGrand; directed by Sandeep Parikh; and written by Brea Grant.

With several calls in the video's comments section for this to become a full-fledged series, we could see more soon. In the meantime, enjoy!

Desperate Housewives (2004)
Meet the Real Housewives of Horror!
Desperate Housewives (2004)
After the success of the show Desperate Housewives, Bravo decided to bring the concept of the show into reality, launching The Real Housewives of Orange County in 2006.  Further proving that television viewers just can't get enough of being a fly on the wall of the housewife's home, that show launched a thousand spin-offs, everything from The Real Housewives of New York City to The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills filling out Bravo's daily programming schedule.  To say the least, housewives have taken over television... and I can't exactly say that's a good thing, for folks like ourselves.

The gang over at Nerdist, however, have found a way to make the trend appealing to us horror folk.  Yesterday they launched the pilot episode of their new web series Real Housewives of Horror, a reality show spoof that stars Brea Grant and FEARnet's own Laura Ortiz (star of Holliston).  Written by Grant and directed by Sandeep Parikh,...

Holliston at Rock and Shock, Where is Season 3?
Fans who attended Rock and Shock 2013 all got another killer weekend. There was just one unsettling occurrence we can't shake. When asked if he had gotten word about Season 3 of "Holliston" at a standing room only panel presentation, creator Adam Green said he hadn't.

And that, "Holliston" Nation, is concerning.

To quoth the Green directly when questioned about Season 3, he said, "We don't expect to hear until the end of the year or early next year, but obviously we're holding our breath just like many of you are and hope that we get the good word any day now. You gotta keep in mind that FEARnet was originally created to show horror movies, and “Holliston” was only produced because its president, Peter Block, who is a close friend of everyone on this show and who also produced my movie Frozen, had the foresight to air an original show for their...
