When DC Universe and later HBO Max put Harley Quinn out, many fans were intrigued to see how it would stack up with the animated movies and Margot Robbie's live-action Harleen Quinzel. It was way more over-the-top, working in extra comedy and gore. It was so well-received, it created a path for the Kite Man: Hell Yeah! spinoff.

Lion King's Mufasa Knew Magic - Disney Basically Confirmed a Bizarre Fan Theory
Image
There is no shortage of fan theories surrounding classic Disney movies, and one of the more bizarre is that The Lion Kings Mufasa secretly knew magic. However, after the story of The Lion King was expanded upon in a canon comic book miniseries, it seems this bizarre fan theory isnt as far-fetched as one might have thought. In fact, Disney all but confirms that its 100% true.

In Disney Villains: Scar #4 by Chuck Brown and Trevor Fraley, Scar is dreaming of his future as king of the Pride Lands, and its just as bleak and desolate as fans remember it being from the 1994 animated film. Scar is then approached by Rafiki, who informs Scar that he is in a dream, and that this is only a vision of a potential future that he could very well avoid. Though, of course, Scar ignores his advice, as fans know that this is how...

‘Kite-Man’ Episodes 1-2 Recap & Ending Explained: Why Did Darkseid Arrive At Noonan’s Bar?
Image
Fans who are missing the unabashedly brutal, dark comedic flair and bloody, gore-y action of the Harley Quinn series and are eagerly waiting for the release of its fifth season will be delighted to know that the first couple of episodes of the spin-off Kite-Man emulate the same spirit even with its lesser-known baddies, Kite-Man and Golden Glider, as the leads. Matt Oberg reprises his role as the titular kite-themed protagonist, whose dwindling morale is perfectly complemented by the confident, flamboyant attitude of his girlfriend, Golden Glider, played by Stephanie Hsu. Aside from the magnetic chemistry between the duo, the hilarious, zany characterization of iconic DC villains, which was a staple for the Harley Quinn animated series as well, proves to be a highlight of the first couple of episodes.

When Harley Quinn’s Poison Ivy (voice of Lake Bell) finally ended up partnered in both supervillainy and love with the titular Harley (Kaley Cuoco), fans rejoiced. Showrunners Justin Halpern and Patrick Schumacker promised the couple will never break up. Harley and Ivy started their fourth season last summer as current TV’s longest-running queer couple. There was, however, one person their new love left behind: Ivy’s former fiancé Chuck Brown, better known as Kite Man. In fact, Ivy might have never been brave enough to pursue a life with Harley without Kite Man’s intervention. He was the only one at his wedding willing to acknowledge that Ivy didn’t actually love him and, during their vows, answered the officiant’s prompt with a “Hell… no.”

Kite Man: Hell Yeah! Season 1 Review – A Disappointing Start to Green-Suited Avenger’s Solo Show
Image
Chuck Brown, better known as Kite Man, has never been one of DC’s headliners. In the comic books, hedwells in the shadows of Batman’s rogues gallery, his green suit and skyward scheme earning little more than eyerolls. Things looked up when the animated series Harley Quinn featured him in a funny arc as Poison Ivy’s reluctant beau. But could Kite Man finally take flight as his own show’s lead?

Spinning off from Harley Quinn’s satirical success, Kite Man: Hell Yeah! centers on Chuck and his gal pal Golden Glider running Noonan’s, a dive bar frequented by Gotham’s fallen foes. Sounds like setup for situational hijinks galore amongst the henchmen and baddies. Yet where Harley Quinn excels at peeling back layers on its beloved characters, this show struggles to flesh out its own.

By episode’s end, Chuck remains as one-note as ever—his...

Disney Chose Its 100th Anniversary to Officially Confirm a Dark Lion King Fan Theory Is 100% True
Image
2023 was Disney's 100th Anniversary, and the House of Mouse chose to confirm a dark fan theory. Disney has confirmed that the hyenas in The Lion King survived by eating each other, with Whoopi Goldberg's Shenzi called out as a cannibal. It's an incredibly dark reveal, but explains how an army of hyenas survived despite being banned from the Pride Lands.

2023 was Disney's 100th Anniversary, and while the year was marred by some major box office disappointments, the House of Mouse did make one bold choice that fans are still talking about - confirming a beloved Lion King character is an out-and-out cannibal. It's an idea that's been batted around in fan circles for decades, and yet one that no-one ever expected Disney to actually confirm.

Disney's 100th Anniversary saw the release of several titles in its Disney Villains comic line, published by Dynamite Comics. One of these was Disney...

Harley Quinn (2019)
Harley Quinn's 2024 Spin-off Will Have 1 Key Difference from Main Show (Exclusive)
Harley Quinn (2019)
Kite-Man: Hell Yeah! — the Harley Quinn spin-off series coming to Max — will differ from its predecessor in a key way, according to storyboard artist on both DC shows Christopher Jones.

The 10-episode animated series will revolve around Harley Quinn side character Chuck Brown (Kite-Man), and will take place within the original show's universe. If the character's name sounds silly, that's because he is one of those goofy D-list villains in the vein of Condiment King or the Baffler.

Kite-Man: Hell Yeah! was originally titled Noonan's, referencing the bar that appears throughout Harley Quinn's run. In both iterations, Kite-Man would be seen working with the likes of Bane and Lex Luthor — all three of whom have appeared as relatively prominent side characters in Harley Quinn.

Disney Officially Confirms a Dark Lion King Fan Theory Is 100% True
Image
Disney has confirmed a fan theory that the hyenas in The Lion King survived by cannibalizing each other, adding a dark twist to the story. This revelation is smart as it aligns with the natural behavior of hyenas and emphasizes their exclusion from the Circle of Life. The hyenas' desperation and their history of cannibalism explain why they joined Scar's forces and contributed to the destruction of the Pride Lands. It also adds irony to Scar's fate of being consumed by his own promised food source, the scavengers he recruited.

Despite producing the world's most popular kids' movies, Disney is no stranger to darkness, but one recently confirmed The Lion King fan theory goes further than anyone expected. From Bambi's mom to Pinocchio's Pleasure Island scene, many Disney movies have deliberately dark moments, but it turns out a dangling thread from the original Lion King tops them all.

Disney Explains Why Scar Chose the 3 Worst Hyenas as His Lieutenants
Image
Warning! This article contains spoilers for Disney Villains: Scar #3 Scar’s three loyal hyena lieutenants in the Lion King proved useful in his ascension to the throne, though the entire movie made it blatantly obvious that they were pretty inept, with their failure to kill Simba followed by their decision to lie to Scar about it being proof enough of that. So, why did Scar choose them to begin with? Well, that question has finally been answered in the latest installment of Scar’s ongoing origin series.

The names of the Lion King’s three most notable hyenas are Shenzi, Banzai, and Ed, with Shenzi being the most intelligent of the three, followed by Banzai (though he has a vicious appetite and lack of true loyalty that makes him dangerous), and finally Ed, who’s arguably more of a liability than an asset. While Scar from The Lion King did succeed in taking Mufasa’s throne, he had an alternate plan that didn’t involve murder. Scar #2 shows a closer look at the iconic Disney villain before his brother’s death. Within it, his plotting seeds are shown being sown.

Scar #2 has the creative team of Chuck Brown and Trevor Fraley. The issue opens with a trio of lionesses hunting: Adea, Sofi, and Tish. The strange thing about this hunt is that it is a second outing, separate from the Royal hunting party – and the group was put up to the idea by Scar. "Queen of the Bone Eaters": New Disney Villain Might Be Its Darkest Yet

Warning! Contains spoilers for Disney Villains: Scar #2!A new villain is far darker than any that has been featured in a Disney movie before. In Scar's quest for power, he's going to have to take down a despot more dispicable than himself.

Anyone who grew up watching Disney films is quite familiar with the pantheon of baddies the company has in its collection. While the movies are always family-friendly and appropriate for kids of all ages, Disney's villains generally veer on the darker, creepier side. From The Little Mermaid's sea witch Ursula to The Nightmare Before Christmas' Oogie Boogie, the baddies, while being quite entertaining, are often dark and devious. Not only do they stand in the way of the protagonists, villains do their best to harm or kill the main characters in order to achieve their goals. ‘Karen Carpenter: Starving for Perfection’ Trailer: New Doc Explores Pop Icon’s Eating Disorder Struggles (Exclusive)
Image
Ams Pictures has released the trailer for its new documentary “Karen Carpenter: Starving for Perfection,” which celebrates the pop singer’s life and music as well as details her untimely death after struggling with anorexia nervosa.

The Carpenters were a top musical act in the 1970s with songs such as “Close to You” and “We’ve Only Just Begun.” However, Karen’s chase for perfection and struggle with the at-the-time vastly misunderstood eating disorder led to her death at age 32.

Using unreleased recordings and celebrity interviews – including with Olivia Newton-John, Cynthia Gibb, Suzanne Somers, Kristin Chenoweth, Carnie Wilson, Bob James and Carol Burnett – the documentary sheds light on the singer’s short life and musical legacy.

The documentary was directed by Randy Martin and produced and written by Randy Schmidt. Brad Osborne produced and edited the film, and Carnie Wilson (of the pop band Wilson Phillips) and Andy Streitfeld executive produced the documentary.

‘Aquaman 80th Anniversary 100-Page Super Spectacular #1’ Review
Image
Written by Various | Art by Various | Published by DC Comics

You know the score by now with these 100 page anniversary specials. They are a celebration of some of the most iconic characters DC has on their roster, with a nice blend of multiple covers by great artists, around a dozen stories by different writers and artists and some bonus pin-ups. Pricey, but usually worth the money. Aquaman is certainly worthy of celebration, reaching 80 years in print is no mean feat after all, though he’s not always been such a celebrated character. Often the focus of ridicule in fact, despite being one of the longest serving members of the Justice League. I always liked the classic Aquaman personally, not so much the post-Peter David version, hook for hand and all. To each their own though. Which is lucky, as you can choose from the following 11 stories and eras. Let’s take a look.

Chucky Thompson, Hitmaker for Notorious B.I.G. and Mary J. Blige, Dead at 53
Image
Carl “Chucky” Thompson, a producer and multi-instrumentalist whose slick samples of Seventies and Eighties soul underpinned some of the most popular R&b and hip-hop tracks of the Nineties, died on Monday at age 53, his rep confirmed to Rolling Stone. A cause of death was not immediately available.

In the Nineties, mainstream hip-hop started to move away from building tracks on obscure samples, choosing instead to craft songs around loops of well-known refrains and bass-lines from earlier eras. P. Diddy and his crew of producers — a group known as the...

Chucky Thompson Dies: Legendary Hip Hop, R&b Producer Who Worked With Biggie, Usher, Mary J. Blige, J.Lo And More Was 53
Image
D.C.-born record producer Chucky Thompson, who made music with some of the biggest hip hop and R&b stars of the ’90s, has died according to multiple reports.

Producer Young Guru broke the news on Monday and paid homage to Thompson, who mentored him early on at Bad Boy Records.

“There is nothing I can write that will take away this pain,” Guru wrote in a caption to a posted photo of himself and Thompson. “I have to say Rip to my mentor, my big brother, the man who changed my life forever. You were the kindest person the world has ever seen. You were the most gifted musician I have ever been around. You treated my like family from day one.”

He continued: “You made a point to the labels that I had to fly to New York with you on ever session. You put me in rooms with Biggie.

Mary J. Blige Was Worried About the Sophomore Jinx. Then She Put Out ‘My Life’
Image
Some artists struggle to determine which of their releases is the most vital — it’s like asking a parent to pick a favorite child. But Mary J. Blige has no such hang-ups. “I have 13 albums,” she declares early on in her new Amazon documentary, released on Friday, “but my second, My Life, is my most important.”

After working with a grab-bag of big names — including Devante Swing of Jodeci and the rappers Busta Rhymes and Grand Puba — on her debut, What’s the 411?, Blige narrowed her focus for its follow-up,...

Charlie Brown Thanksgiving Special: Where and How to Watch
Bill Melendez and Peter Robbins in A Charlie Brown Christmas (1965)
Back in October, Apple TV+ acquired the rights to a whole host of Peanuts holiday specials including “A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving.” This was great news to Apple shareholders and Apple TV+ subscribers (all 13 of us), but it also raised concern about how many timeless classic holiday specials would soon find their way behind corporate paywalls.

Thankfully, it would appear that Apple heard those concerns and registered them. For now the company has announced that “A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving” will be receiving special broadcast airings on PBS in addition to its Apple TV+ premiere. Here is everything you need to know about when and where you can find “A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving” this holiday season.

On the streaming side of things, the Charlie Brown Thanksgiving special is already available to be streamed on Apple TV+ as of Nov. 18. Subscriptions to Apple’s streaming service cost $4.99 a month after a seven day free trial.

This Week In Music: JoJo Siwa, Lady Gaga, The Bee Gees And Go-Go All In The Groove
JoJo
The concert season never really ends. It just moves indoors and outdoors as the weather permits, allowing stars to choose between intimate venues, sheds, stadiums and arenas, as their following permits.

Two attractions dominated the concert news this week. One is an up-and-comer, the other a returning veteran. And for those who can’t choose between new and old, there’s always the musical selections of the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, which offers something for everyone.

This week in music:
