It includes episodes 49 to 60 of the series. These episodes deal with the aftermath of the massive fight with the Demon Lord Clayman and the end of the war against the Kingdom of Falmuth. 20 Most Iconic Black Anime Characters
Image
With anime becoming increasingly popular around the world, so has the demand for more diverse characters, and that has led to some of the most iconic black characters in anime. Black characters have become more popular both in Japan and outside, especially in the past few decades as anime fandom grows. Some mangaka, like Eichiro Oda, were way ahead of their time by incorporating Black characters in their work which paved the way for future creators to follow suit.

More than just a handful of small examples in lesser-known works, black characters can be found in even the biggest anime franchises. Trailblazers like Tite Kubo and Masashi Kishimoto have designed some of the most memorable black characters in anime and manga.

This set a precedent for a new generation of manga and anime creators who looked up to these icons and wrote some deep and multifaceted characters. The most iconic...

The 10 Strongest Anime Characters of 2024, Ranked
Image
2024 anime brought a lot to the table, including some excellent animated battles and the return or arrival of the powerful characters who fought in them. While 2024 had all kinds of excellent non-action anime too, many fans are most keen on the action/adventure series with swords, magic, and fists. And there have been plenty of famous anime powerhouses to keep the action going.

A handful of action anime series, mostly shōnen anime in particular, thrilled anime fans throughout 2024 with their explosive antics in all four seasons. That includes overpowered isekai heroes, demon lords, wizards, tormented half-other heroes, and even martial artists who just need their fists and guts to claim victory on the battlefield. Ten particular fighters stand out as being 2024's most powerful, setting a new bar for all action anime in this decade.

10 Best Anime Characters Who Are Incredibly Old But Look Young
Image
One of the most fun tropes in anime is for a character to be much older than they look. A character who may look like they're in their mid 20s can actually be hundreds, or even thousands of years old, creating an entirely new dynamic for the cast to deal with. Older characters that look young are usually the wisest, most powerful people around. They've lived long enough to learn a thing or two and usually aren't too concerned with what's going around them.

While some characters are fun in their youth, other characters remain young for more sinister reasons. Characters like Muzan Kibutsuji from Demon Slayer don't stay alive to help people out. Instead, they're sticking around to live the best lives possible, and they don't care who they need to sacrifice to achieve it.

10 Anime With Filler Arcs So Good We Wish They Were Canon
Image
Anime has many slightly controversial concepts, like filler. Filler arcs or episodes do not take place in the source material. Most fillers technically do not concretely affect the story. Yet, filler arcs like One Piece's G-8 would only benefit the franchise if they were added to the canon.

While some filler is annoying and detracts from the anime, this is not always true. Many studios attempt to ensure each filler fits relatively seamlessly with the main story. Sometimes, anime features filler considered more popular than their canon counterparts, like Saint Seiya and its Asgard saga. Although filler is typically divisive among fans, certain anime are elevated by their amazing filler arcs.

Fairy Tail Has a Few Relatively Interesting Filler Arcs Most of the Filler Aligns With the Anime's Canon Content

10 Most Iconic Shonen Anime Rivalries of All Time, Ranked

Shonen anime and rivalries just go hand in hand. The most iconic rivalries are often between two characters whose fates seem intertwined. No matter how much they grow, they are constantly tied to each other – doomed to be opponents forever. The best anime rivalries are thematically insightful, nuanced, and help both the story & cast grow organically.

It doesn't hurt that the most iconic shonen rivalries feature many fans’ favorite characters. A great rivalry goes out of its way to give each character sympathetic traits, to spit fans. 10 Most Powerful Families in Anime
Image
The most powerful families in anime can be complicated, to say the least. Sometimes they're on the same side, other times they're not. Families like the Briefs in Dragon Ball have stuck together through thick and thin, and even though Vegeta can be a curmudgeon, his wife Bulma knows exactly how to handle him. Other families, like the Uchiha in Naruto, aren't as intimate but are equally, if not more, powerful. They act as a giant political force, controlling and influencing people around them to achieve their goals as a monolith.

The best families in anime don't have to be related by blood either, as seen by the Forgers in Spy x Family. They're a found family that chooses to be together, showing that not all bonds have to be determined by genes. No matter if an anime family is one cohesive unit, or a mismatch of characters that hate each other,...

10 Anime Characters Who Share One Piece's English Voice Actor For Monkey D. Luffy
Image
Monkey D. Luffy is the main protagonist of One Piece, and he has become one of the world's most iconic anime characters. Mayumi Tanaka has been voicing Luffy since One Piece debuted in Japan in 1999, and Colleen Clinkenbeard has been Luffy's English voice actor for the past fifteen years. Colleen has been voicing anime characters since 2004 and has voiced a variety of characters.

Several of the characters Colleen has voiced are more mature than Luffy, and many anime fans likely do not know they are hearing Luffy's voice actor because her other characters do not sound much like him. She has voiced several side characters, but she has also voiced some well-known characters from beloved franchises.

Best Kuudere Anime Waifus, Ranked
Image
Anime fans love to imagine perfect romantic bliss with a fictional partner, which is where the concept of anime waifus came from. Fans have varying tastes on what makes a great waifu, from villainous bad girls to energetic tsunderes to genki girls, and to contrast with all those vivid archetypes, there's also the kuudere archetype. Kuudere waifus are cool and mature, as opposed to their hotheaded tsundere counterparts.

The kuudere archetype gets its name from the English word "cool," describing someone who keeps their composure and shows their affection in gentle, subtle ways. As a general rule, kuuderes are also mature people with stable personalities, making them great romantic partners for anyone who wants a low-drama relationship with a reliable, even-tempered person. That's why anime fans love the cool-headed kuudere waifus who might act aloof at first, but have a warm and caring heart deep down. Interestingly, a few of...

The creative mind of Hiro Mashima, author of Fairy Tail and the recently-concluded Edens Zero was celebrated with an appearance at 2024's New York Comic-Con, with some startling confessions about his inspiration. From the legion of anime fans, many of whom were introduced to the medium through Mashima's work during or beyond Fairy Tail, it's safe to say he has plenty now.

15 Best Post-Apocalyptic Anime
Image
The best post-apocalyptic anime are also some of the medium's most intriguing ones, as they take place in captivating worlds completely different from reality. As a consequence of cataclysmic events that nearly destroy and redefine the world, societies end up either regressing, or developing in new and unique ways, adapting to their new conditions and needs.

These types of shows tend to have a few common strengths that make them as popular as they are. One would be their world-building, in the form of interesting broken-down cities and relics of the past, and another would be the characters and their journeys. When faced with desperate situations wherein survival is hardly guaranteed, the worst of humanity may be put on display, as instincts take over reasoning.

10 Best Isekai Anime Fights That Will Get Every Fan Hyped

Isekai animes have more freedom than their non-isekai counterparts. By taking their main characters out of the real world and placing them in a fantasy world, the best isekai anime series can operate using their own rules. That means protagonists can live in worlds with magic, granting them abilities their previous worlds never could have. Characters like Tanya van Degurechaff from The Saga of Tanya the Evil were normal people in their past lives. In their new lives, however, they're powerful characters capable of devastating powers.

The Best Anime With a Main Character Who Isnt The Chosen One
Image
Many anime protagonists are destined for greatness. Their heroism (or villainy) is preordained, either by a prophecy or bloodline. These characters are often the norm, but this trope overlooks main characters who have humbler beginnings. Protagonists who dont fall into the Chosen One trope are just as impressive as fated protagonists (if not more so).

Main characters who dont have mystical backgrounds can be some of the most interesting protagonists. For the most part, they are simply regular people who work through their problems and become stronger through hard work. They may not have been born to be prominent, but they accept the challenge anyway.

Cbr Anime Week is brought to you by Hulu Animayhem

The Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest anime finally premiered on screen on July 7, 2024. To celebrate the return of the popular shonen action series, a special illustration of Lucy Heartfilia was drawn by the creator of A Silent Voice.

Yoshitoki Oima, the author and illustrator of A Silent Voice, illustrated the Fairy Tail heroine for the series' official social media X account, commemorating the TV airing of the 100 Years Quest anime series. Oima's illustration of Lucy is a little risqu, as the Celestial Wizard is wearing little clothing sans a scarf around her chest. For longtime fans of Fairy Tail or fans of Hiro Mashima in general, the slightly suggestive artwork of Lucy isn't far from the norm. However, for those who follow Oima's works such as A Silent Voice or To Your Eternity, her somewhat provocative artwork of Lucy might come as a surprise.

While Eiichiro Oda's original manga and anime adaptation have been a fixture of the shonen genre for many years, the brand-new live-action series released by Netflix in 2023 has truly pushed One Piece into uncharted territory.

Currently, the One Piece live-action adaptation sits at eight episodes, the last of which wraps up the events of the Arlong Park Arc. This leaves plenty of material for the series to cover, including a slew of filler episodes that (despite their non-canon nature) are more than worthy of being added to the live-action adaptation.

Banned Anime Around The World

Quick Links Currently Banned Anime Series Unbanned Anime Series

This article mentions sensitive topics such as sexual abuse, violence, and child exploitation.

Anime can get pretty wild sometimes. Like any other storytelling medium, anime can push the envelope and challenge viewers with intense or even disturbing story content. As a result, these boundary-pushing anime went too far for some groups' tastes. This then led to complaints, protests, or even official bans.

Some nations formally banned certain anime, since they objected to what they view as inappropriate content. Often, banned anime made uncomfortably sharp or honest critiques of a nation's history or leaders. Others had such extreme gore or sexual content that a nation's government deemed it unsuitable for viewing.

Update on January 17th, 2024 by Chelsea Steele: While all forms of media can get wild and push boundaries, few do so quite like anime. The medium takes it to new...

AniMania: Soul Eater
“A sound soul dwells within a sound mind, and a sound body…”

Or so Laura Bailey, the voice of Maka, tells us at the beginning of each episode of Soul Eater. While she doesn’t give us any details about the percentages of recommended daily allowances, we can tell you that Soul Eater, the latest hit series from Funimation, is 100% awesome.

If you’ve been to an anime convention in the last year or so, chances are you’ve already witnessed the phenomenon that is Soul Eater. Starting its tour of our shores as a manga serialized in Yen Press, the series went on to be collected into volumes, giving U.S. fans a taste of what the process is normally like in Japan as a title gains popularity. It exploded onto the con scene, with hundreds of cosplayers taking part in some of the biggest photo shoots I’ve ever seen.

Ani-Mania: ‘Jinki: Extend’
It’s good to see that they’re still making robot shows. No, really, I mean it. I grew up on Voltron — it was the first anime I ever watched, even though I didn’t know it was anime at the time — and while mecha isn’t my personal favorite, I still have a fondness for the genre. We have the classics, like Macross/Robotech, the prolific Gundam universe (which incidentally gave their name to a late publication that was highly respected in the anime industry — we still miss you, Newtype) and the quintessential Neon Genesis Evangelion, a serious contender for the title of best animated series of all time. With names like these already established as the cornerstones of the giant robot genre, what more...
