Big Move for Dcu’s ‘Booster Gold’ Series as New Writer Steps In
Image
The Booster Gold series is back on track at HBO Max, and it’s got a new creative lead. David Jenkins, best known for creating the comedy Our Flag Means Death, has been brought in to write the pilot. If the show goes to series, Jenkins is also expected to take over as showrunner.

This news comes at a busy time for Warner Bros. Discovery, especially after The Penguin scored 24 Emmy nominations. That kind of success could give Booster Gold a boost as one of the next big DC TV projects.

Booster Gold is based on the DC Comics character created by Dan Jurgens. The main character, Michael Jon “Booster” Carter, is from Gotham City and was once a college football star. He got kicked out of school for gambling, but later used future tech to become a superhero.

He’s known for chasing fame and fortune and not always being the most serious guy.

Dcu’s ‘Booster Gold’ TV Show Gets an Important Production Update
Image
HBO Max is finally moving ahead with its Booster Gold series, and they’ve found the person to lead it. David Jenkins, the creator of Our Flag Means Death, has signed on to write the pilot episode. If the show gets picked up, he’s expected to take over as showrunner too.

This news comes not long after a big Emmy nomination day for The Penguin, another DC-related project. That show scored 24 nominations, including ones for Colin Farrell and Cristin Milioti.

With that kind of momentum, Booster Gold could be the next big DC TV project for Warner Bros. Discovery.

The character Booster Gold was created by Dan Jurgens. His real name is Michael Jon “Booster” Carter, and he’s from Gotham City. He was a college football star who lost his scholarship after getting caught gambling. Later, he used futuristic technology to become a superhero, though he’s mostly...

Update: Booster Gold Enlists Our Flag Means Death Creator To Write Pilot And Potentially Serve As Showrunner
Image
DC Studios and James Gunn are bringing Peacemaker season 2 to this weekend's San Diego Comic-Con, and another big Dcu update has been revealed ahead of that show's Hall H panel.

Deadline has revealed that Booster Gold, a planned HBO Max streaming series, has tapped Our Flag Means Death creator David Jenkins to write the pilot. If Gunn and Peter Safran are happy with his take on the time-travelling superhero, he'll eventually serve as showrunner.

Booster Gold was announced at the start of 2023 as part of the Dcu's "Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters" slate. It's previously been revealed that the show lost its original showrunner, while rumours have swirled that Eternals star Kumail Nanjiani is being lined up to play the title character.

Last December, Gunn largely dodged a question about Nanjiani playing Booster Gold when he said, "We're not quite there yet in terms of Booster Gold. The scripts aren't...

Taika Waititi and Rhys Darby in Our Flag Means Death (2022)
The comedic pirate series Our Flag Means Death only lasted for two seasons on the HBO Max streaming service, but the streamer is still interested in working with series creator David Jenkins. Discovery’s next big DC Comics TV adaptations.” The Penguin earned 24 Emmy nominations.

Review: Paul Vecchiali’s ‘Rosa la Rose: Fille Publique’ on Radiance Films Blu-ray
Image
Paul Vecchiali’s Rosa la Rose: Fille Publique opens with sex worker Rosa (Marianne Basler) spinning toward the camera and responding to a potential client (Pierre Villaret) that her services cost 500 francs and that she doesn’t do overnight visits. As the man mulls what he’s been told, Rosa struts around in her vibrant blue dress, hands on her hips. She quickly takes on the next man (Mathieu Rivolier) who shows up, leading the two johns to start fighting when the first man decides that he wants her as well. Rosa, ever the people pleaser and pleasure seeker, effortlessly calms the two men down by suggesting a threesome, evincing a hypnotic power over the men.

This little drama continues unfolding in a single take that tracks Rosa as she moves up and down the street like a lioness, equal parts sensuous and vigorous. As the trio walk off to their afternoon delight,...

‘Our Flag Means Death’ Star, 51, Addresses Hopes of Revisiting the HBO Series
Image
Despite a passionate fan base and a campaign that has seen everything from social media rallies to physical billboards, Our Flag Means Death remains docked. But in this industry, nothing is ever a foregone conclusion. The pirate comedy, created by David Jenkins and starring Rhys Darby as the unhinged “Gentleman Pirate” Stede Bonnet, was axed by HBO after just two seasons. Now, with most of the creative crew moving on to new ventures, including Darby himself, everyone is eager to find out if there's any light at the end of this tunnel.

In a recent interview with Screen Rant, conducted by John Orquiola, Darby addressed the future, or lack thereof, of the series. The conversation primarily centered around Darby’s latest project, a guest role in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 3. But the question that’s been on every fan's mind inevitably surfaced — Is there still hope for Our...

Kevin Costner's Sports Drama Flop Is Getting A Second Life On Netflix
Image
If you grew up on Ivan Reitman's "Ghostbusters," have fond memories of the director's "Kindergarten Cop," or were swept up in the Reitman-produced "Space Jam"-mania in the '90s, you might not be aware of the last movie he called the shots on. Reitman, who passed away in 2022, directed his final film in 2014 with "Draft Day," a sports drama starring Kevin Costner as fictional Cleveland Browns general manager Sonny Weaver Jr.

The film sees Weaver prepping for the titular event while dealing with some personal events that are pretty big in their own right. Not only does his own boss, team owner Anthony Molina (Frank Langella), want to fire him, but his somewhat secret girlfriend Ali Parker (Jennifer Garner) is also pregnant. Amidst all this, Sonny takes a deal offered by the Seattle Seahawks that gives him and the Browns the first-round draft pick. Did he make the right choice?...

'Resident Alien' Fans Need to See 'People of Earth'
Image
Resident Alien has been a delight since its premiere in 2021, seamlessly blending situational comedy with sci-fi world-building and a quirky imagination. Season 3, perhaps its best yet, premiered more than one year ago, and fans are eagerly awaiting Season 4 as the show heads to the USA Network.

There's a kindness and a deep understanding of the human condition laced throughout that show, and it constantly reminds me of possibly my favorite sci-fi comedy on television, a very similar (and arguably even better) series from 2016 that aired on TBS. It developed a small but loyal cult following in Season 2 after word-of-mouth spread, and was renewed for Season 3. Until it wasn't.

Extraterrestrials and People of Earth

People of Earth was one of the rare shows that critics and audiences agreed was great; it currently has an 89% critics' score and an 86% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. Created by David Jenkins (Our Flag Means Death...

L.A. Music Community Galvanizes to Help Victims of Wildfires
Image
Los Angeles has been hit hard by wildfires in the area, which is home to scores of music industry professionals. Between the Palisades, Eaton and other fires, entire neighborhoods populated by artists, publicists, managers, agents, songwriters, label executives, session musicians and others in the business of music have been burned to the ground in a disaster of unprecedented proportions.

The music business, traditionally a tight-knit community, has been known to look after its own. Just yesterday, The Recording Academy and its charitable arm MusiCares announced it was pledging $1 million to support music professionals impacted by the fires.

Recording Academy CEO Harvey Mason Jr. noted the impact the destruction was having on the local community, adding, “We will come together as an industry to support one another. More ‘Our Flag Means Death’? Creator David Jenkins ‘Will Never Rule Out a Return’
Image
Our Flag Means Death Season 2 arrived a year ago on Max, and since then, fans have had to come to terms with the idea that the pirate rom-com may never return to screens after its unceremonious cancelation in January. Still, that doesn’t mean fans have given up hope that the show may one day return. Whether that hope will manifest into something concrete, creator David Jenkins isn’t closing the door to the possibility. On October 5, a fan on social media wondered whether Jenkins was celebrating the one-year anniversary of Season 2’s release, while another wished for a third season. There’s a sizable time jump between S2 and a theoretical S3. Until it’s ridiculous or totally impossible, I will never rule out a return to this show. If ever a network’s buying I’m in. — David Jenkins (@david_jenkins__) October 5, 2024 Jenkins took it upon himself to comment,...

Theresa Kang’s Passion for ‘Pachinko’ Led Her to Founding Blue Marble Pictures and Management
Image
It’s rare for the right project to come to the right person at the right time, but in the case of “Pachinko,” that’s exactly what happened. Long before Blue Marble Pictures and Blue Marble Management’s founder and CEO Theresa Kang ever picked up Min Jin Lee’s novel, she was poised to help bring this particular story to the screen.

When Kang encountered the 2017 book, she was still working as an agent for WME. “A lot of books get discussed at agencies,” she told TheWrap. “But I remember when I heard about this one, I was like, ‘Wait a minute, Zainichi Koreans in Japan?'”

A saga that tells the story of one family over generations, “Pachinko” revolves around a Korean family who immigrated to Japan before World War II and how they grapple with their identities in a country that’s ceaselessly hostile to them. While...
