BBC Studios, Blink Industries Team Up for New Animated Martial Arts Series, ‘Children Vs Battle SuperStars’

BBC Studios Kids & Family is developing a new animated series aimed at 8 to 12-year-olds, in collaboration with Blink Industries. “Children Vs Battle SuperStars” (working title) will be the first project under a two-year first-look deal between the two companies, which are will share early details about the title with potential clients at this week’s Annecy Animation Festival.

The 22-episode series follows a martial arts tournament in a fantastical, modern-day world. It focuses on ordinary children facing off against larger-than-life “Battle SuperStars.” The show’s creators, Remus Buznea and Kyriaki Kyriakou (known professionally as Kiki), are known for their work on “Rick and Morty” bumpers, “Primal” and the award-winning short “Dateless.”

Dawn O’Porter Novel ‘Paper Aeroplanes’ Set to Be Adapted for TV by New Entertainment Franchise Company Victura Media (Exclusive)

Victura Media, a new company focused on managing entertainment franchises, has launched at Mipcon with a slate of IP including a television adaptation of Dawn O’Porter novel “Paper Aeroplanes.”

Victura will also distribute a number of titles from “The Walking Dead” producer Skybound Entertainment, including“Psi Cops,” “Super Dinosaur” and “Skybound Presents: Spike & Mike’s Festival of Animation.”

The transatlantic company, which will work across the U.K. and Canada, was founded by Thom Chapman with a view to building and managing global IP with a 360-degree strategy across retail, licensing, gaming and content. Between Chapman, a former VP for entertainment sales and distribution at toy company Spin Master, and director Gráinne McNamara, former VP for live action development and production at 9 Story, Victura’s principals boast 20 years’ experience in franchises, working on brands including “Peanuts,” “Paw Patrol” and toyline Hatchimals.

Global Bulletin: El Gouna Announces Revised Dates (Exclusive)

In response to the global Covid-19 crisis and the health and safety challenges facing live, in-person events, Egypt’s El Gouna Film Festival (Gff) has announced revised dates for its 4th edition, now set to run Oct. 23-31, a month after it was originally planned.

Gff director Intishal Al Timimi said in a statement: “Several film festivals have been impacted by the ongoing global Covid-19 pandemic and their return to the scene will send a positive signal that the world is on its way to normalcy. At Gff, we choose to live in this hope and positivity and continue our commitment to make a contribution to the development of cinema internationally and in the region, and to ensure a safe yet enjoyable experience for all participants.”
