Kamala Harris has announced that she will not be entering the race to become the next Governor of California.
The former Vice President of the United States has spent the “past six months” reflecting on how she can continue fighting for the American people and while many have asked her to run for Governor, she has decided not to run in this election.
“For now, my leadership—and public service—will not be in elected office,” Harris said in a statement released on Wednesday (July 30).
It was believed that Harris would be the frontrunner in the election had she decided to enter the race. Now, the field appears to be wide open.

President Donald Trump continued his Profit Off the Presidency World Tour this week with a stop in Scotland, where he opened a new private golf course. You, dear taxpayer, footed the bill for most of the trip.
On Monday, Trump cut the ribbon at the Trump International Golf Links Aberdeen, which will officially open to the paying public on Aug. 13. The president was accompanied by his sons, Eric and Don Jr., who have taken the helm of their fathers real estate, licensing, and growing cryptocurrency empire while he occupies the White House.

The White House lashed out at Joy Behar after she said on ABC’s The View that Donald Trump’s attacks on his predecessor, Barack Obama, were motivated by jealousy, while noting the current president’s role in the attack on the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021.
On Wednesday, Behar and the other View co-hosts talked about Obama’s response to Trump’s claim that his predecessor was guilty of treason. The Trump administration claims that Obama and his team conspired to alter intelligence assessments to boost the notion Russia was attempting to help Trump get elected in 2016.
Obama’s spokesperson called the allegations “bizarre” and a “weak attempt at distraction.”
On The View, Behar said, “First of all, who tried to overthrow the government on January 6th? Who was that again?”
Behar added, “The thing about him is he is so jealous of Obama, because Obama is everything that he is not.

The 2025 Espy Awards will likely be remembered for Shane Gillis’ monologue, even if the comedy was largely forgettable.
Gillis, a standup comedian and the co-creator and star of Netflix’s Tires, is probably best known for lasting like four hours at Saturday Night Live — Lorne Michaels felt compelled to fire Gillis after some non-pc clips of a 2018 episode of Matt and Shane’s Secret Podcast were resurfaced — though he has gone on to host the show, twice.
By now, you’ve probably read both praise and criticism on Gillis’ monologue — he’s that kind of comic. Gillis is wildly popular among his base, and controversial among non-fans. This was always gonna go some sort of way, and ESPN executives knew that when they gave Gillis the gig. Gillis has appeared on the network’s College GameDay show, where he (internet-)famously got into it with Nick Saban, an all-time great...

Comedian Shane Gillis was met with mixed reactions from the crowd as he hosted the ESPYs on Wednesday night, though he did make one move that “The View” host and former stand-up comedian Joy Behar didn’t appreciate.
Early on in his monologue, Gillis made a joke about Donald Trump’s desire to host a UFC fight at the White House, with the punchline being “the last time he staged a fight in D.C., Mike Pence almost died.” When the joke fell flat but got some scattered applause, Gillis told the crowd, “you don’t have to do that. It was fine, I didn’t write it.”
And that shade toward his writers irked Behar pretty good.
“Never do that,” she said on Thursday’s episode of the ABC talk show. “Johnny Carson was on the air for, I don’t know, a 100 years? Never once did he say,...

You know you’re having a tough night at the ESPYs when People calls you out for a performance “that appeared to fall flat.” For Shane Gillis, host of the sports awards show, the boos were another sign it wasn’t going great.
Gillis did get laughs at some points during his opening monologue. Bill Belichick and his girlfriend Jordan Hudson are always fair game, apparently, and the comedian got his biggest laughs with jokes like this after a Shohei Otani bookie bit: “A bookie is what Bill Belichick reads to his girlfriend before bedtime. They read, Very Horny Caterpillar, The Little Engine That Could But Needed A Pill First and, of course, the classic, Good Night Boobs.”
His follow-up Belichick joke wasn’t as well received, for obvious reasons: “He won six Super Bowls. He’s dating a hot 24-year-old. Maybe if you guys won six Super Bowls, you...

On June 24, it was announced that comedian Shane Gillis would be hosting this year’s Excellence in Sports Performance Yearly Awards. The news was met with some excitement among fans, but when he walked onto the stage at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles, things changed.
Unfortunately, Gillis’ jokes seem to have fallen flat as he struggled through his long monologue where he took a dig at anyone and everyone. From Donald Trump to basketball player Caitlin Clark, Gillis spared no one.
While he received a few laughs here and there, the audience present at the venue just seemed a little too uncomfortable and this didn’t go unnoticed by the comedian himself.

Hosting an award ceremony comes with certain expectations and jokes at the expense of famous names are pretty common.

Host Shane Gillis brought his trademark brand of combative humor to the opening monologue of Wednesday night’s Espy Awards in Hollywood, drawing a mixed response from the audience of professional athletes and Hollywood celebrities.
The host’s jabs came in contrast to the high volume of kudos bestowed on major figures in women’s sports, including gymnast Simone Biles, rugby star Ilona Maher, recently retired soccer superstar Alex Morgan, retired WNBA great Diana Taurasi, tennis star Sloane Stephens and Penn State volleyball coach Katie Schumacher-Cawley. Olympic gymnast Suni Lee got the nod for best comeback athlete, a gender mixed category.
Morgan and Taurasi were jointly honored with the ESPYs Icon Award for their work beyond the game to advance women’s sports and improve working conditions for players.

Vaughn Hillyard will join MSNBC as senior White House correspondent, as the network has hired a group of journalists for its team in advance of its split from Comcast and sister network NBC News.
Hillyard has been an NBC News White House correspondent but has contributed to MSNBC.
Also joining MSNBC will be Laura Barrón-López as White House correspondent, David Noriega as MSNBC correspondent, and Marc Santia as an investigative correspondent.
The split, expected to be completed later this year, has left questions of who will go where. Figures like Andrea Mitchell and José Díaz-Balart are staying with NBC News, while figures like Ken Dilanian are landing at MSNBC.
MSNBC will be part of Versant, the newly branded entity of cable networks and other media properties formerly owned by Comcast. With NBC News no longer a sister network, MSNBC is building up its own news division.

When I was growing up, the lessons of 1984 – the dystopian novel by George Orwell – were all thought to pertain to the Soviet Union. Big Brother was Josef Stalin – controlling the thoughts of his people, punishing dissenters.
If that had been correct, the dissolution of the Soviet Union and freeing of its similarly totalitarian satellite regimes would have rendered the novel irrelevant to our present times. 1984 would have been a mere artifact reflecting outdated concerns of an earlier era marked by sinister eradication of personal liberties. Turns out that’s not the case.
Raoul Peck’s vital documentary Orwell: 2 + 2 = 5, which premiered tonight at the Cannes Film Festival, makes it startlingly clear the degree to which we are living in Orwellian times. The parallels between the nightmare of 1984 – where Big Brother dictates every facet of life – and Trump’s America have not been properly acknowledged. This film does that.

Kamala Harris is stepping out for the 2025 Met Gala!
The 60-year-old 49th Vice President of the United States posed for photos before heading to the big fashion event held on Monday evening (May 5) at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.
For the event, VP Harris looked sophisticated in a black and cream-colored silk dress, by Off-White, featuring a silk scarf and dramatic sleeve.
“The precise simplicity of this black and cream look for Kamala D. Harris complements her own strength and confidence, two qualities I consider to be the core of dandyism,” Off-White Creative Director Ib Kamara shared in a statement.
VP Harris was joined by husband Doug Emhoff, who looked sharping in a coordinating black tux.
The Met Gala will focus on menswear and suiting this year with a “Tailored for You” dress code. The event will celebrate the opening of the museum’s new exhibition “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,...

As Donald Trump’s tariffs continue to keep the stock market spiraling, “The View” host Alyssa Farah Griffin says there is another man encouraging the president — one who was actively kept out of meetings with Trump during his first term for worry over something like this.
In discussing the current stock market situation on Monday morning, Farah Griffin argued that Trump’s ideas on tariffs and trade wars might work, “if we were the 13 original colonies.” But, considering America is decidedly not those colonies anymore, it is simply unfeasible to have every good that Americans use and/or consume be manufactured in the country.
Farah Griffin also pointed out that, having worked in the first Trump administration, there’s one man who is steering Trump in this ill-advised direction.

Financial markets are taking a nosedive for the second straight day amid global panic and investor anxiety over Donald Trump’s implementation of broad tariffs on foreign imports. Economists are warning that the president’s actions are putting not just the United States but the world at risk of a global recession, and that working-class Americans will experience acute economic pain. Fret not, says the president, he is apparently playing chess while the world is playing checkers — whatever that means. Even some of his most prominent GOP supporters aren’t buying it.

Cruel Intentions will not return for a second season. The 2024 followup to the 1999 movie of the same name released its first (and now, only) installment last November.
The show endured a long road to release, starting first at Freevee in 2021 before moving to Prime Video in 2023. Before that, NBC had ordered and cancelled a different pilot inspired by the movie in 2016, and an attempted prequel series from Fox also never made it to air.
Amazon’s series starred Sarah Catherine Hook, Zac Burgess, Savannah Lee Smith, Sara Silva, John Harlan Kim, Khobe Clarke, Sean Patrick Thomas and Brooke Lena Johnson. Neal H. Moritz and Roger Kumble who produced (the former) and wrote and directed (the latter) the original film, also served as executive producers.

Production is underway on Season 3 of The Diplomat, Netflix's political thriller starring Keri Russell (The Americans) as Ambassador Kate Wyler and Rufus Sewell (Dark City) as her husband, Hal. Allison Janney plays U.S. President Grace Penn, and in a stroke of casting genius, her The West Wing cast mate Bradley Whitford has been cast as Todd the First Husband.
Adding to The West Wing reunion is The Diplomat's creator, showrunner, and executive producer, Debora Cahn, who was also a producer and writer on the famous, multiple award-winning NBC political series. Former Fox News host Pete Hegseth was confirmed as Defense Secretary Friday night on a narrow vote in the U.S. Senate, a victory for President Donald Trump despite disturbing allegations about Hegseth’s conduct and questions about his fitness for the job.
Hegseth’s appointment was secured in a late-night vote only when Vice President J.D. Vance stepped in to break the tie after three Senate Republicans voted against him. Hegseth has been accused of sexual assault and of having a history of alcohol abuse. In June of last year, Rep. Barry Loudermilk (R-Ga.) was considering subpoenaing former Trump staffer Cassidy Hutchinson as part of the GOP’s counter investigation into the work of the Jan. 6 committee. The idea was shut down by House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.), ostensibly over concerns that Hutchinson’s testimony would mean a repeat of the firestorm her 2022 testimony created.
According to a Thursday report from The Washington Post, Johnson’s office was also concerned that subpoenaing Hutchinson would unearth a much more embarrassing scandal: lawmakers sending her sexually explicit text messages.

While showing footage of Democrats arriving and making nice during traditional event, Stewart criticized the leaders — except for no-show Michelle Obama — for acting as if it was business as usual in Washington.
“Also attending were all those people who warned Americans to shun this wannabe fascist dictator called Trump,” he said. “‘Look at me, Ma! Oh, let’s go see Hitler and get a quick selfie first! Hello! Look at us! A quick one for the ‘Gram!’ Former President Obama was there. George Bush seemed kind of there. Even Mike Pence showed up, I guess to let the crowd finish the job. Only Michelle Obama seemed to have the consistent ethical stance of saying, ‘When they go low, I stay the fuck home.'”

Jimmy Kimmel addressed the presidential inauguration of Donald Trump on Monday night’s edition of “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” and noted how odd the ceremony turned out to be — just as “our long national nightmare was officially sworn in.”
“It’s still pretty hard to wrap your head around,” he said of the fact that Trump, a convicted felon, was nonetheless elected president once again. And the grift has already started: Selling inauguration Bibles, and a new meme coin that has already minted him a fortune.
“I hope we all understand how crazy that is,” he said, “the President of the United States – following in the footsteps of the Hawk Tuah girl.”
As for the decision to hold the inauguration inside to the cold, “they had to move the festivities indoors – which was actually better for Trump. Harder for Melania to escape.”

While some might say Donald Trump’s inauguration marked a somber day in U.S. history, The Daily Show‘s Jon Stewart had dick jokes aplenty.
The comedian and political host incised the D.C. affair with one-liners aimed at those in attendance (from their fashion choices to their general decision to show up at all), X owner Elon Musk’s odd/potentially terrifying salute and outgoing Potus Joe Biden’s down-to-the-wire blanket pardon.
Regarding the peaceful transition of power, which began with Biden’s tea-time with Trump, Stewart quipped: “I’m not saying Biden should have done his own insurrection, but there’s gotta be a happy medium between storming the Capitol and ‘would you like a crumpet?'”
As for those present, Stewart marveled at the people who had previously denounced Trump — as a fascist and otherwise — who dropped by: “George Bush seemed kind of there — definitely high. Even Mike Pence showed up,...

Attorney General Merrick Garland has released former Special Counsel Jack Smith’s report on his investigation into President-elect Donald Trump’s efforts to overturn the results of the 2020 election. The 130-page report is damning, and concludes that “the admissible evidence was sufficient to obtain and sustain a conviction at trial.”
“As set forth in the original and superseding indictments, when it became clear that Mr. Trump had lost the election and that lawful means of challenging the election results had failed, he resorted to a series of criminal efforts to retain power,...

All five living presidents – Joe Biden, Donald Trump, Barack Obama, George W. Bush and Bill Clinton— were reunited on Jan. 9 to honor former President Jimmy Carter’s funeral in the Washington National Cathedral. The event saw civility between political foes. Trump and Obama were even seen laughing during a friendly exchange.
But former Trump White House adviser Steve Bannon claimed that Bush snubbed Trump.
On his political podcast, WarRoom, Bannon called Bush “the worst president in the history of the country.”
“Bush walked past Trump, the man fixing the mess he created,” Bannon said. “This is who they are — arrogant, out-of-touch elites.”
Obama was also not spared on the podcast, even though Trump and Obama put their clashing politics aside.

Former president Barack Obama raised some eyebrows on Thursday after he was seen laughing with President-elect Donald Trump — who regularly pushed birther conspiracy theories about Obama — during fellow former President Jimmy Carter’s funeral. So, on Friday morning, the hosts of “The View” tried to decipher what Trump could’ve possibly said to elicit the laugh.
Playing the clip for the audience, the ladies all agreed that they enjoyed trying to read the body language of everyone in attendance, not just Trump and Obama. Behar joked that she desperately wanted to “be a fly on Mike Pence’s head” for the event, so she could’ve heard everything. Still, she had a guess as to what Trump might’ve said.
“It looks like Trump is asking Obama which country the Panama Canal is in,” she joked.

On Friday’s (January 10) new live episode of The View, the cohosts started the hour by talking about the memorial service for former President Jimmy Carter, which was attended by all five living presidents and some of their spouses — Bill and Hillary Clinton, George and Laura Bush, Barack Obama (Michelle Obama was absent), Donald and Melania Trump, and Joe and Jill Biden — as well as some of the vice presidents — Dan Quayle, Al Gore, Mike Pence (with wife Karen), and Kamala Harris (with Doug Emhoff). “I couldn’t take my eyes off of the body language,” Joy Behar said before showing a much-seen moment in which Trump made Obama laugh. “It looks like Trump is asking Obama which country the Panama Canal was in!… I wish I was a fly on Mike Pence. I would have liked to have really seen what was going on, but I didn’t have any sound.

When Joe Biden eulogized Jimmy Carter in the majestic surroundings of Washington National Cathedral on Thursday, he said of his predecessor, “Many think he was from a bygone era, but he saw into the future.”
As other speakers noted, Carter was prescient on a host of issues including climate change and women’s rights, but inside the cathedral were reminders that when it comes to politics, the future looks much different than the late president probably could have ever envisioned it.
Carter’s adviser Stuart Eizenstat noted that much of Carter’s agenda passed with bipartisan support in the 1970s; at the cathedral today, in the area reserved for members of Congress, there were only a handful of Republicans. Many seats were empty.

Throughout Netflix's history, the streaming service giant has hired A-list actors to headline films and produced TV shows featuring many celebrities. Despite how much those stars must have been paid, many users care much more about Netflix's reality shows. While there is some debate about which Netflix reality shows are the best, Queer Eye has been celebrated since the revival of the influential original series premiered.
As every Queer Eye fan knows, the show's stars have become so famous that Jonathan Van Ness can charge a fortune for a haircut. However, that doesn't mean that Queer Eye's fans have always been happy with the show's cast. For example, Karamo Brown once suffered a backlash from some fans for one of his political opinions.

Most figures at the forefront of America’s anti-abortion movement were less than enthusiastic when Donald Trump announced last week he plans to nominate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. as Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services — the agency that governs federal policy related to reproductive health.
Rfk Jr.’s position on abortion shifted over the course of his campaign: In May, he defended the viability standard that was the basis of Roe v. Wade, before declaring his support for a federal 15-week abortion ban and then walking that declaration back in August.

Stephen Colbert struck a much different tone in the opening of Wednesday’s “Late Show,” offering his viewers a voice of compassion as they deal with the fallout of Donald Trump’s victory in Tuesday’s election.
“Hey there. How you doing? If you watch this show regularly, I’m guessing you’re not doing great,” Colbert began. “Yeah, me neither. Today, some people said to me, ‘Sorry you have to do a show tonight,’ which is nice of them to say but I don’t have to do a show. I get to do a show tonight.”
Colbert then took time to express his gratitude for his crew, the audience at the Ed Sullivan Theater, and the viewers at home, “because, especially at times like this, what do we most want to be? Not alone. So thanks for being here.
“We’re gonna do a comedy show,” he continued.

“When I went to bed last night, I felt really great about where the panel was, and then I looked at it today, and some of those questions just had to change after Iowa,” recalls Meet the Press moderator Kristen Welker. “It is an ongoing process right up until we go to air. So, you’ve watched The Dictator and discovered—or maybe rediscovered—your love for the absurdity and outlandishness of Sacha Baron Cohen. The British actor and comedian has a savvy set of satirical skills up his sleeve that he often sets loose in the real world. Cohen, when his methods work, is able to expose hidden biases, prejudices, and sometimes the bizarre underbelly of society.

If The Dictator’s lampooning on the absurdity of authoritarianism left you chuckling at its brazen wit, here’s a list of Sacha Baron Cohen’s other films that will keep you entertained, surprised, and sometimes even moved.
1. Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan (2006)
No point in pushing this one down the list.
