Chris O’Dowd has joined the cast of Luca Guadagnino’s “Artificial,” Amazon MGM Studios announced on Tuesday.

He joins previously announced cast members Andrew Garfield, Yura Borisov, Monica Barbaro, Jason Schwartzman, Cooper Hoffman, Ike Barinholtz, Cooper Koch, Billie Lourd and Zosia Mamet. Details about Dowd’s role are being kept under wraps.

The film centers on the AI company OpenAI and its embattled CEO Sam Altman (Garfield is playing Altman), which is officially described as a “comedic drama set in the world of artificial intelligence.”

Simon Rich wrote the script and will produce “Artificial” with Heyday Films’ David Heyman and Jeffrey Clifford, with Jennifer Fox also producing.

Chris O’Dowd has joined the sprawling cast of Luca Guadagnino’s Artificial, Amazon MGM’s drama centered on the true-life story of artificial intelligence company OpenAI.

Artificial has Andrew Garfield, Yura Borisov, and Monica Barbaro leading a cast that also includes Jason Schwartzman, Cooper Hoffman, Ike Barinholtz, Cooper Koch, Billie Lourd and Zosia Mamet.

The movie is being described as a comedic drama, although it is a dramatized recounting of the tumultuous period at OpenAI in 2023 that saw CEO Sam Altman fired and rehired in a matter of days.

Altman co-founded OpenAI but in the fall of that year, amid mounting safety concerns regarding AI and reports of abusive behavior, he was ousted as the head of the company by his board. Five days later, after a revolt, he was reinstated. Garfield is playing Altman.

The 2025 New York Film Festival has unveiled its full Spotlight lineup including the world premieres of Ben Stiller’s Nothing Is Lost documentary about his parents, Jerry Stiller and Anne Meara, Rebecca Miller’s Mr. Scorsese and Daniel Day-Lewis’ acting return in son Ronan Day-Lewis’ Anemone. In addition, the section will feature the U.S. premiere of Sepideh Farsi’s Put Your Soul on Your Hand and Walk, the Palestinian subject of which was killed in an Israeli air strike earlier this year.

The international showcase of daring work from adventurous new voices and inventive artists includes 16 feature films and 24 short films from 28 countries.

Less than a year ago, it was announced that Mike Flanagan's Clayface script would be getting a Dcu movie, with a release date set for September 2026. The Main Slate will showcase films from 26 countries, featuring two world premieres, eight North American premieres, and 13 U.S. premieres, including award‑winning titles from Cannes and Berlin. The lineup includes Jafar Panahi’s It Was Just an Accident (winner of the Palme d’Or at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival) and Rose Byrne, recipient of the Silver Bear for Best Leading Performance at the 2025 Berlinale for Mary Bronstein’s If I Had Legs I’d Kick You.

Andrew was originally set to playing Frankenstein’s monster in the new Netflix movie, but had to drop out due to scheduling conflicts.

After del Toro and his makeup artist Mike Hill spent nine months working on the look for the monster, using Andrew as the model, they had to scrap the plans and only had nine weeks to change them for Jacob.
