The Golden Bachelor announced an unofficial cast list for Mel Owens' upcoming season, and it proves that the producers don't care about their newest lead. Mel, a 66-year-old NFL player-turned-lawyer, and divorced dad of two teenage sons, faced a lot of backlash because of ageist comments that he made about the women of his season.

On the In the Trenches podcast, Mel revealed that, before he was cast as the star of The Golden Bachelor season 2, he informed the producers that he'd only date women aged 45 to 60, and he'd cut anyone over the age of 60 from his cast. Mel also stated that he didn't want any women with artificial hips or wigs in his cast.

After the first set of six Love is Blind season 8 episodes, fans were admittedly disappointed with the extended pod sessions but happy to see five couples get engaged and meet in person. Minutes after the Writers Guild of America declared it was on strike, members lit up social media with vows to stay strong as they prepare to hit the picket lines on Tuesday.

News of the strike, which takes effect later this evening, came late Monday after the guild’s negotiations with the AMPTP failed to reach an agreement on a new film and scripted TV contract. It’s the WGA’s first strike since the 100-day walkout of 2007-08.

Reaction on Twitter was swift. “Here we go,” wrote David Simon. “See you all on the pavement, my brothers and sisters.” He followed it with the hashtag #WGAstrong.

Some expressed fear but that was quickly replaced by resolve, as scribes encouraged fellow members to ignore the spin “that’s already coming out.”
