Emerging writers encouraged to make an impact via accelerator program
Image
Tyler Mitchell’s philosophy has always been “run to love”.

So when Film Victoria called him in early 2019 expressing admiration for the inaugural Impact accelerator program he ran with Ron Howard and Brian Grazer in the US, it was enough to plant the seed for an Australian version of the initiative.

“If someone loves what you are doing, you should embrace that,” he told If.

“We started talking and between Film Victoria, Screen Australia, and the states, there was tremendous support and a real partnership, not just financially, but with the mission we have.”

It’s a collaboration that will continue this year when Impact Australia returns in person following an inaugural virtual program in 2020.

Delivered in conjunction with Gentle Giant Media Group, Impact Australia 2 will pair local creators with leading screenwriters, or ‘shapers’, who over eight weeks will help them craft their project and prepare them for pitch day in front of buyers.

Applications open for Impact Australia 2
Image
Impact Australia is inviting applications for the second iteration of its screenwriter accelerator program, which will take place in-person in Melbourne after being held virtually last year.

Delivered in conjunction with Gentle Giant Media Group, Impact Australia 2 will pair local creators with leading screenwriters, or ‘shapers’, who over eight weeks will help them craft their project and prepare them for pitch day in front of buyers.

This year’s iteration will be held on the Victorian College of the Arts’ (Vca) Southbank campus at the University of Melbourne.

Impact CEO Tyler Mitchell, who founded the concept with Brian Grazer and Ron Howard, said the inaugural Impact Australia had exceeded their expectations in terms of the number and quality of applications.

“It confirmed what we have long suspected and are excited to continue fostering – that Australia is full of talented screenwriters with stories that resonate with audiences everywhere,” he said.

“The...

Shaun Grant, Jason Smilovic, Kai Wu, Stuart Beattie and Sarah Heyward are mentoring 14 emerging creators in Impact Australia, the offshoot of Us Imagine Impact founded by Brian Grazer, Ron Howard and Tyler Mitchell.

Supported by Gentle Giant Media Group and Screen Australia, the inaugural eight-week accelerator program for creative storytellers from across Australia was originally slated to be held in Melbourne.

Due to Covid-19 it is now being held as a virtual program, with a twice-weekly speaker series. It will culminate in Pitch Day, hoped to take place in Melbourne in late 2020, with the ultimate goal of the creators selling their projects.

The 14 creators from across Australia are working on 10 projects:

Carrie Anderson (Nsw) – Bound (TV hour)

Luke Goodall (Vic) and Marc Gallagher (Vic) – Robots Inc. (TV half hour)

Brian Grazer & Ron Howard’s Impact Australia Selects 10 Projects For Accelerator Program
Image
Exclusive: Impact Australia, the entertainment accelerator launched down under by Brian Grazer, Ron Howard and Tyler Mitchell’s Imagine Impact back in February, has named 10 projects that will take part in its debut talent program.

The eight-week initiative, run in collaboration with Gentle Giant Media Group and Screen Australia, was originally slated to take place in Melbourne but will now pivot to a virtual form due to ongoing coronavirus disruption.

A total of 14 creators will receive online mentorship ahead of a pitch day, which is aiming to take place physically in the fall, with the ultimate goal of taking the projects, which are primarily TV but include two features, to market.

Mentors will include: True History Of The Kelly Gang writer Shaun Grant, Carnival Row executive producer Kai Wu, Lucky Number Slevin writer Jason Smilovic, Pirates Of The Caribbean: The Curse Of The Black Pearl director Stuart Beattie, and Girls writer Sarah Heyward.

Dr. Harrison Wells Has A Solution To Barry’s Speed Problem In New Clip From The Flash
The CW has released a clip from tomorrow night’s episode of The Flash, and it features Dr. Harrison Wells trying to convince Barry Allen, Cisco, and Iris West that the best possible solution to the titular hero no longer having his speed (he was forced to give it to Zoom in order to save Wally West’s life) is to recreate the accident which gave him his abilities.

It looks like Barry is going to take some convincing, but we already know from the promo for next week’s instalment that The Flash ends up saying yes after realizing it’s the only way to save Caitlin.

Spoiler Filled Synopses For Upcoming Episodes Of Arrow, The Flash, And Legends Of Tomorrow
The CW has released the official descriptions for the episodes of Arrow, The Flash, and Legends of Tomorrow which will air during the week beginning May 2nd. Surprisingly, they feature some pretty major spoilers for what’s to come, but there will no doubt still be plenty of other twists and turns before each of these show’s respective seasons are over.

Starting with Arrow though, and there’s not much in the way of spoilers or anything of much interest to be perfectly honest. If anything, this instalment sounds a tad unexciting.

As Oliver (Stephen Amell) and Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards) look for a magical solution to defeat Darhk (guest star Neal McDonough), a vengeance-driven Diggle (David Ramsey) gets a lead on Andy’s (guest star Eugene Byrd) whereabouts and heads off to confront his brother. Meanwhile, Alex (guest star Parker Young) takes Thea (Willa Holland) on a vacation...

Directed by Steve Shill

Written by Ben Sokolowski and Grainne Godfree

Airs on Tuesdays at 8 pm (Et) on The CW

With the first season of The Flash ending with the opening of the Multiverse, the first few episodes of the second season spent their time setting up the show’s new paradigm. What couldn’t be forgotten, however, is that the team itself needed to be rebuilt after having lost its most crucial member in the former Harrison Wells, aka Eobard Thawne. With Dr. Stein also having lost Ronnie, and by extension his stabilising force, the past two episodes have shifted the focus towards rebuilding the team, adding new members to replace those who are gone and add more strengths. Footage From "The Flash" vs 'King Shark'
Sneak Peek footage, plus images from "The Flash" episode, "The Fury Of Firestorm", written by Kai Yu Wu, Joe Peracchio and directed by Stefan Pleszczynski, that aired October 27, 2015 on The CW, revealing DC Comics' super-villain 'King Shark':

"It was just fun for us," said "The Flash" producer Andrew Kreisberg about the 'King Shark' cameo.

"Obviously we can't afford to do an entire 'King Shark' episode so the idea was that he was one of the minions of 'Zoom', and just the latest in the line.

"Which does mean that there is a King Shark on 'Earth-1'."

Written by Grainne Godfree & Kai Yu Wu

Directed by Dermot Downs

Airs Tuesdays at 8pm Et on the CW

Things start out simple enough. Iris narrates that she is faced with a dilemma: approach Barry and let him know that she knows his secret,...
