If the Grace Series 4 premiere was an excellent example of a reliable TV mystery, Series 4, Episode 2, "Want You Dead" is a cautionary tale about how easy it is to miss the mark. It's still a worthwhile watch -- but largely because of the performances of the BritBox series' impressive cast. Plot-wise, there are some clear deviations from Peter James' book of the same name, and some massive plot holes that the episode falls flat into.

"Want You Dead" picks up shortly after the events of the premiere, with Detective Inspector Roy Grace convinced his nemesis Alvin Smallbone is plotting against him and his pregnant fiance. However, the discovery of a body in a park leads Grace and his team through a chain of magic-related murders.

Paramount Global Content Distribution and Paramount Pictures UK have acquired worldwide rights on Adam Deacon’s upcoming action-comedy Sumotherhood.

The studio will release the film theatrically in the UK and Ireland later this year.

Sumotherhood marks a return to the industry for UK actor-filmmaker Deacon, who broke out as an actor in 2006’s Kidulthood and won the Bafta Rising Star award in 2012. The new film is the fourth in the Kidulthood series, after 2008’s Adulthood and 2016’s Brotherhood, the latter of which Deacon did not appear in.

BritBox, the BBC and ITV’s joint-venture streamer, has acquired ITV’s John Simm drama Grace for the U.S. and Canada. The service will premiere the drama on April 27.

Told as two feature-length episodes, Grace is an adaptation of Peter James’ Roy Grace crime novels from Endeavour creator Russell Lewis. It is a co-production between Jekyll & Hyde producer Tall Story Pictures, Second Act Productions, and Derren Brown’s Vaudeville Productions.

It is based on James’ first two Roy Grace books Dead Simple and Looking Good Dead, which introduce Brighton-based Detective Superintendent Roy Grace, a hard-working police officer who has given his life to the job.

Made famous by Bob Marley and the Wailers’ 1973 song ‘Small Axe’, that’s the traditional proverb behind the title for a five-film series by Oscar-winning British director Steve McQueen.

Two of McQueen’s Small Axe films were selected for this year’s Cannes Film Festival and in October, one opened the 64th London Film Festival. Now, all five are coming straight to BBC One and iPlayer in the UK, and Amazon Prime Video around the world. Well, the director gave a definitive answer. “These are five features,” McQueen said in his recent NYFF press conference.”In a perfect world, I would love people to see these films in the cinema, absolutely, but we are living in these times [with] TVs and how people can use this equipment in high quality ways. But there is nothing for me that can beat going to the cinema and viewing with a community of people.”

Film at Lincoln Center has set the Steve McQueen-directed Lovers Rock as the opening-night film of the 58th New York Film Festival. The film will be making its world premiere, and the festival is going heavily into the work of McQueen, who became the first Black filmmaker to win the Best Picture Oscar for 12 Years a Slave.

Lovers Rock is part of his Small Axe anthology, which comprises five original films by the director. Two other films from the anthology, Mangrove and Red, White and Blue, will also have their world premieres as part of the NYFF’s Main Slate, the rest of which will be disclosed in the coming weeks.

The 58th edition of NYFF kicks off on September 25 with the latest from the “12 Years a Slave” director. And “Lovers Rock,” which will make its world premiere, is one of five films as part of an anthology from McQueen called “Small Axe.” All five movies, including “Mangrove,” “Lovers Rock,” “Alex Wheatle,” “Education” and “Red, White and Blue,” are set to premiere on BBC One later this year and on Amazon Prime Video in the U.S.

Two other films as part of McQueen’s anthology, “Mangrove” and “Red, White and Blue,” will also have their world premieres as part of the festival. The full main slate for the New York Film Festival will be announced in the coming weeks.

The New York Film Festival has announced its opening night film as well as plans for its physical events. Paramount is bringing Blue Story straight to digital platforms after its UK theatrical debut last November. The pic was slated to hit U.S. theaters March 20 but due to closures in the wake of the pandemic, Blue Story will be available to purchase or rent beginning on May 5.
