In addition to debuting the “It: Welcome to Derry” teaser trailer, creators Andy Muschietti and Barbara Muschietti shared the first 10 minutes of the premiere at San Diego Comic Con.
That footage will not be made available online — you’ll have to wait until the series premieres in October on HBO Max — so here’s a rundown of what was shown.
A film projector whirs to life. Derry’s Capitol Theater is screening The Music Man, establishing the series’ 1962 setting. The camera travels through the theater before landing on a young boy sucking on a pacifier he’s too old for. Referred to as the Clemons boy, he’s a new character created for the series.
The usher spots Clemons, who makes a run for it. A bit of dialogue reveals that the boy frequently sneaks in, and his rough family life is alluded to. The usher chases him through the lobby,...

AsStephen Kingfans gear up for the release of It: Welcome to Derry, the HBO prequel to It that'll arrive in October, many wonder whether the TV version will be able to capture the horror of the 2017 adaptation and its 2019 sequel. Though it's a change of medium, we're talking about HBO, a network that isn't exactly known for diluting stuff that might be deemed controversial. Show creator Barbara Muschietti understands this concern, and she's offered fans the reassurance they've been hoping for, vowing that It: Welcome to Derry will be as scary as the movies.
Per Screen Rant, the showrunner and producer appeared at the San Diego Comic-Con to talk about the upcoming show, where she was joined by her brother, co-producer and It director, Andy Muschietti, and they shared a few details about the series. A new trailer for It: Welcome to Derry has been released following a panel at the San Diego Comic-Con yesterday evening, and it teases a sinister, demonic force in the small town, which may be there in addition to Pennywise.
Once again, we see very little of Bill Skarsgård's killer clown, an indication perhaps that his screentime will be fairly limited. That or HBO Max is simply looking to keep the iconic monster and his role in this story under wraps (ensuring there are plenty of surprises for horror fans).
It's also been confirmed that It: Welcome to Derry will premiere this October, meaning we should return to Derry in time for Halloween.

The sibling duo shared a new teaser trailer (below), played the opening scene of their upcoming HBO series, which fleshes out stories from King’s sprawling 1986 novel, and explained the impetus behind the initial eight-episode season.

The Flash star Ezra Miller's career was completely derailed in the build-up to the movie's release after making headlines for a number of alleged incidents, including disorderly conduct, assault, harassment and burglary.
The most series accusations involved child endangerment and grooming, with a temporary protection order against Miller being issued at the request of the parents of 18-year-old activist Tokata Iron Eyes. The actor did release a statement taking responsibility for their actions while promising to get the help they need, but not everyone was buying it, and for many, Miller crossed a few too many lines to earn a second chance.
Last August, we learned that Tokata’s father, Chase Iron Eyes, had withdrawn the complaint after claiming that his initial belief was based on a story that has since been recanted. The statement was met with some scepticism, but there were those who felt that it was...

Batman Begins co-writer David Goyer recently opened up about some advice he got from acclaimed director Christopher Nolan to not do another Batman movie. Goyer is known for his superhero film screenplays, including theBladetrilogy and Nolan's The Dark Knight films.
Speaking on Josh Horowitz's podcast to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Batman Begins, Goyer looked back on some of the films he's worked on and shared some advice Nolan gave him. "I'm pretty much still not in a comic book place...look, I go back and forth. All the time on social media, I see, 'Oh, they should have Goyer do the new Blade.' Part of me thinks it would be fun, but part of me thinks I did, so far, the definitive Blade, and [it would be] a mistake," he said.

It: Welcome to Derry is an upcoming American supernatural horror television series based on Stephen King‘s 1986 novel, It, and serves as a prequel to the films It (2017) and It Chapter Two (2019). The series was developed by Andy Muschietti, Barbara Muschietti, and Jason Fuchs, all of whom were involved in the It films.
In March 2022, Variety reported that Andy Muschietti, Barbara Muschietti and Jason Fuchs were in development of and executive producing a prequel television series of It (2017) for HBO Max titled Welcome to Derry, which takes place in the 1960s before the events of the film and will also include the origin story of Pennywise the Clown.
In January 2025, in an interview with Radio Tu, Andy Muschietti revealed details about the source material and longer-term plans. He said that the series is based on interlude chapters from the novel.

No one would blame you if you were beginning to feel fatigued by all of the attempts to cash in on existing IPs. There’s seemingly always a novel, film, series, or various other property getting the reboot, remake, prequel, sequel, requel, or spinoff treatment. Speaking of which, the brand-new trailer for It: Welcome to Derry just dropped. While you may be skeptical of this upcoming prequel series, this particular offshoot might be special. That much is apparent from the newly released trailer.
As some fans already know, this prequel series marks the return of It (2017) and It Chapter II (2019) director Andy Muschietti, as well as his sister and producing partner, Barbara Muschietti.

It’s been a beat since Bill Skarsgård played Pennywise in both “It” films, but the “Nosferatu” and “The Crow” actor has wasted no time diving into the demonic terror of the Stephen King villain for prequel series “It: Welcome to Derry.”

HBO Max unveiled the first trailer for It: Welcome to Derry, a nine-episode prequel series that dives into the origins of Stephen King’s most iconic villain, Pennywise the Clown. The teaser, released on May 20, offers a chilling glimpse of Bill Skarsgård reprising his role as the shape-shifting menace and establishes a 1962 setting in the small town of Derry, Maine, where unspeakable horrors are about to resurface.
The series, co-developed by Andy and Barbara Muschietti alongside writer-showrunner Jason Fuchs, transports viewers to the aftermath of the Black Spot nightclub massacre—a pivotal event in King’s novel interludes—in which a gathering place for Black residents is burned down, triggering Pennywise’s cyclical return every 27 years. Skarsgård embodies Pennywise once more, stalking sewers and shadowy streets as a new cast of characters begins to piece together Derry’s dark legacy.

The Home Box Office is about to get a lot creepier this fall. HBO has dropped the first teaser trailer for “It: Welcome to Derry,” the network’s highly-anticipated “It” prequel series. And it’s just as unsettling as everything else connected to this balloon-loving clown.
The teaser starts with a traumatized looking kid walking on the side of a highway. He’s soon picked up by a nice looking couple. “Now just tell us where home is and we’ll get you back to your parents safe and sound,” the man says.

HBO Max is floating its first official teaser trailer for Welcome to Derry.
The upcoming series is a prequel to the hit It films which adapted Stephen King’s horror masterpiece about a small town in Maine that’s cursed by the presence of a shapeshifting killer clown which returns to murder a slew of children every 27 years.
The trailer (below) introduces a new cast of young characters living in Derry in the 1960s.
The show was developed by It filmmakers Andy Muschietti and Barbara Muschietti along with Jason Fuchs who serves as co-showrunner with Brad Caleb Kane. Andy Muschietti directed four of the season’s nine episodes.
Bill Skarsgård has returned to play Pennywise the Dancing Clown, a villain that King fans agreed the actor embodied to perfection, after initially turning down the chance to continue the character. In an interview earlier this year, Skarsgård assured the TV version is “hardcore.

HBO Max has just unleashed the first trailer for It: Welcome to Derry (via FearHQ.com), but why does it feel so...familiar? While the It and It Chapter Two movies shifted the action from the 1950s and 1980s to the 1980s and 2010s, this story takes place in the 1960s and feels more in line with Stephen King's original novel.
However, with the spotlight once again put on a group of kids attempting to stop Pennywise the Clown's reign of terror, it's hard not to wonder what this TV series will bring to the table that It fans haven't already seen.
It looks suitably creepy and scary, though, and Bill Skarsgård's demented killer clown makes its presence felt in the closing moments of this teaser trailer. Pennywise doesn't look too different, as best as we can tell, but is mostly being kept hidden in shadow for now.
