Why CBS Canceled A Musical Comedy Starring Hugh Jackman After Just Two Episodes
Image
The 2007 CBS TV series "Viva Laughlin" was a remake of the show "Blackpool," which ran on BBC One in the mid-2000s. In the British series, David Morrissey played Ripley Holden, a character who became embroiled in a murder in a local video arcade right when he was planning on transforming it into a hotel and casino. Georgia Taylor played Shyanne, Ripley's bratty daughter, while Sarah Parish portrayed Ripley's wife Natalie, and erstwhile "Doctor Who" star David Tennant played a cop who was convinced that Ripley was guilty. "Blackpool" ran for six episodes in 2004 and then returned for a 2006 TV movie titled "Viva Blackpool." The show's main selling point was that it featured multiple musical numbers in every episode. The works of Elvis Presley, Elvis Costello, Queen, Billy Idol, the Clash, and many others were crooned by the cast.

In 2007, "Blackpool" was adapted for the American airwaves by Bob Lowry...

Weak TV Shows With Great Endings
Image
Although the television medium has produced a variety of long-running series, not every show that graces TV screens can have long-term success. Television shows often suffer from weak writing, characterization or circumstances outside their control, reducing many series with major potential to a footnote in the pop culture zeitgeist.

That said, while there are plenty of subpar TV shows that remain exactly that from beginning to end, there are some series that, despite some rough spots, redeem themselves with surprisingly noteworthy endings. Whether their endings are great because they cleanly wrap up important narratives, result in major changes to a beloved character, or even set up the events of other related TV shows & films, these otherwise weak series are worthy of watching just for their finales.

ABC Finally Announces That Marvel's Inhumans Has Been Cancelled
Surprise! ABC has officially pulled the plug on Marvel's Inhumans series. It ran for one season, and it's not coming back. Yeah, I know it's not really surprising news. We all knew the show was going to get canceled because it was so damn bad. I personally didn't make it through four episodes. It just never grabbed me.

It's a shame because these are all such great characters and it could've been a solid series if Marvel and the creative team actually handled them properly. In the end, the Inhumans should have been a movie. Oh well, I guess you can't win 'em all, no matter how bad you want to think that you did a great job. I think it's funny that it took them this long to admit defeat.

Marvel’s Inhumans explored the never-before-told epic adventure of the royal family, including Black Bolt, the enigmatic, commanding King of the Inhumans.

TV Bloodbath: ‘Quantico,’ ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’ and More Canceled Shows
Dirk Blocker, Andre Braugher, Terry Crews, Melissa Fumero, Joe Lo Truglio, Joel McKinnon Miller, Andy Samberg, and Stephanie Beatriz in Brooklyn Nine-Nine (2013)
Annual upfront presentations in New York are fast approaching, and networks are saying goodbye to several shows — some longstanding, others short-lived. The cancelations of series like “Quantico,” “Brooklyn Nine-Nine,” “Designated Survivor,” and “Lucifer” are making space for new programs in the fall.

See the full list of cancelations below.

ABC

“Quantico”: The Priyanka Chopra-starrer won’t survive to see a fourth season after a showrunner shuffle that ended with Michael Seitzman taking over for Joshua Safran in Season 3. Three episodes into its third season, “Quantico” is averaging a 0.5 rating in the 18-49 demo and 2.3 million total viewers, according to Nielsen live-plus-same day numbers.

“Designated Survivor”: The presidential drama starring Kiefer Sutherland as America’s last-expected leader ate through four showrunners in two seasons. The show was on a search for its own designated survivor — a fifth showrunner — for a projected Season 3 when it got the axe. The...

Jack Cutmore-Scott in Deception (2018)
ABC has canceled freshman dramas “Inhumans,” “Deception,” “The Crossing,” and “Kevin Probably Saves the World” after one season each.

“Inhumans” starred Anson Mount as Black Bolt, Iwan Rheon as Maximus, Serinda Swan as Medusa, Eme Ikwuakor as Gorgon, Isabelle Cornish as Crystal, Ken Leung as Karnak, Ellen Woglom as Louise, Sonya Balmores as Auran and Mike Moh as Triton. Henry Ian Cusick guest stars as Dr. Evan Declan.

The series, which was a Marvel and IMAX project, was co-produced by Marvel Television and ABC Studios. It was executive produced by Scott Buck, Marvel’s Jeph Loeb and Jim Chory.

“Deception” centered on magician Cameron Black (Jack Cutmore-Scott) who, once ostracized from the world of illusions due to a scandalous car accident that left a woman dead, used his skills in the art of deception to aid the FBI in catching elusive criminals.

The series also starred Ilfenesh Hadera, Lenora Crichlow,...

‘Marvel’s Inhumans’ Canceled By ABC After One Season
Marvel’s Inhumans will not see a second season. ABC has canceled the action drama series.

The decision is not a surprise. The show premiered to modest ratings on ABC following its two-episode debut in Imax theaters two weeks before its linear premiere, and it never picked up steam. Box office receipts of $3.5 million disappointed all involved, and the show drew negative reviews from critics.

Marvel’s Inhumans explored the never-before-told epic adventure of the royal family, including Black Bolt, the enigmatic, commanding King of the Inhumans. After the family is splintered by a military coup, they barely escape to Hawaii, where they are greeted with surprising interactions with the lush world and humanity around them. Now they must find a way to reunite with each other and return to their home before their way of life is destroyed forever.

Marvel's Inhumans: Cancelled by ABC? Shield Star Makes a Near Slip
It's looking even more likely that Marvel's Inhumans TV show will be cancelled by ABC. Above and beyond floundering in the bottom of the ratings' barrel, it seems like word of the cancellation could be leaking to the larger ABC-Marvel television family. During last weekend's Heroes and Villains Fan Fest San Jose panel, Marvel's Agents of Shield star Ming-Na reportedly almost used the word "cancelled," when answering a fan's question about potential crossovers between the ABC TV series. An ABC series set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Marvel’s Inhumans stars Anson Mount, Iwan Rheon, Serinda Swan, Eme Ikwuakor, Isabelle Cornish, Ken Leung, Ellen Woglom, Sonya Balmores, and Mike Moh. Marvel's Inhumans Review: Even on Big Screen, New ABC Drama Feels Small
Anson Mount, Serinda Swan, and Iwan Rheon in Inhumans (2017)
This fall, TV welcomes an engaging and slick new Marvel series about people possessing unique powers.

But in addition to The Gifted, there will also be Marvel’s Inhumans.

What follows is a review of the Inhumans “movie” now playing in IMAX theaters, ahead of the eight-episode ABC series’ launch (on Friday, Sept. 29). What’s in theaters runs 75 minutes, whereas the double-episode TV premiere reportedly includes 10 extra minutes. This review will be relatively non-spoilery, but I cannot speak for the Comments made by those who also ponied up $20 cash to see it in IMAX (nor will we be monitoring them...

New Trailer For Inhumans Highlights The Characters and Medusa's Hair Looks Decent
Marvel has released a new trailer for The Inhumans, which highlights the main characters in the upcoming series. In the process, they show a new shot of Medusa and in that shot, her hair actually doesn't look like an awful wig. We also see her punch people in the face with her hair.

I know a lot of fans are disappointed by what they've seen in the trailers. Hell, I am too, but I'm still going to give the show a chance. I would love for it to turn out to be a great series and prove everyone wrong.

Regardless, with all of the bad press that the show has been getting, I wouldn't be surprised if it bombed. We'll just have to wait and see how it plays out when the show is released.

A royal family divided. Watch Marvel’s #Inhumans first in @IMAX theatres 9/1, and the complete series on ABC 9/29. https://t.

Attilan Royalty Takes Center Stage In The Latest Character Posters For Marvel’s Inhumans
Marvel and ABC’s eight-part Inhumans series is now teetering on the verge of its IMAX premiere – September 1st is the date for your diaries – though it’s fair to say that excitement for Marvel’s Royal Family has been tempered by lukewarm reviews and other criticisms.

However that may be, the Powers That Be are still pulling out all the stops to ensure Inhumans enjoys the biggest premiere possible, with today heralding the arrival of seven – count ’em, seven – character posters that gather together all of the core members of Attilan. Conspicuous by his absence? Iwan Rheon’s Maximus. The former Game of Thrones actor recently conceded that he was somewhat hesitant about signing on to play the younger, unruly sibling to Anson Mount’s Black Bolt, and if SpoilerTV’s damning review of the pilot is anything to go by, Rheon’s initial fears may well turn out to be true.

Medusa's Hair Attacks Maximus in New Clip From Marvel's Inhumans
I love Marvel, they've done a pretty awesome job with almost everything they've done. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like their Inhumans series will fall into the awesome category. The more I see of this series, the more I don't want to watch it. It just looks terrible. Yeah, a lot of people seem to be falling for the giant teleporting dog Lockjaw, but that dog's not going to make the show good.

You know what else isn't going to make the show good? Medusa's freakin' hair! That has to be one of the biggest things that fans have an issue with, and today we have a clip to share with you that pretty much focuses on that hair.

The scene features Maximus confronting Medusa as he tries to proposition her. She becomes agitated so her hair starts to act defensively and in the end, it attacks Maximus grabbing him by the throat.

Three Character Posters For Inhumans Introduce Part Of Marvel’s Royal Family
If you happened to catch Sunday’s premiere of Game of Thrones season 7, “Dragonstone,” you likely felt the echoes of one Ramsay Bolton.

Iwan Rheon’s unruly bastard terrorized much of Winterfell throughout the course of the show’s sixth season, and was ultimately left at the mercy of his own hungry hounds – much to the delight of Jon Snow, Sansa Stark, and Thrones‘ massive following. It’s a credit to Rheon, then, that the character of Ramsay Bolton was brought to life with a palpable menace, and his performance hasn’t gone unnoticed, as the actor is poised to play the juicy role of Maximus the Mad on Marvel’s Inhumans series.

Pegged for a premiere on September 29th following a two-week spell in select IMAX theaters, the small-screen family drama is comprised of eight episodes in total, and on the eve of San Diego Comic-Con, Marvel has today...

Marvel Unleashes The Full Trailer For Inhumans
After a couple of little teases, Marvel has released a full trailer for their new series Inhumans. I'll be honest... I'm little underwhelmed. I was expecting a lot more from this considering the kind of money they are putting into it to bring the first couple episodes to IMAX theaters. It still feels very much like a TV show. It doesn't have that cinematic feel I was hoping for. Inhumans probably would have worked better as a movie.

I'll still give the show a chance, but it looks like it's going to be a hard sell. I'm sure there are some fans out there that will like what they see, which is great! This trailer just didn't grab me and get me excited. Watch the trailer for yourself and tell us what you think!

Former Lost Star Henry Ian Cusick Reportedly In For Marvel’s Inhumans
If the show’s IMDb page is any indication, former Lost star Henry Ian Cusick has landed a role in Marvel’s Inhumans series.

First spotted by Screen Rant, Cusick is purportedly one of three new additions to the fold – the other two being Michael Buie (Grey’s Anatomy) and Tanya Clarke (Banshee) – with Cusick credited as Dr. Evan Declan. He’s one of the few entirely original characters written for Marvel’s Inhumans series, and will seemingly feature in six of the show’s eight episodes. As for Buie and Clarke, they’re attached to play the parents of Black Bolt and Maximus, the warring siblings who threaten to cause an upheaval for the people of Attilan. Expect to see Buie and Clarke embody King Agon and Queen Rynda, respectively.

Word is that Inhumans recently wrapped filming on its final episode, so it shouldn’t be too long before...

Inhumans Trailer Tease Continues To Peel Back The Many Layers Of Marvel’s Royal Family
If Marvel had any intention of retaining some semblance of intrigue and mystery before debuting the first-look trailer for Inhumans, they’ve failed spectacularly.

That’s not to say that the finger of blame should be pointed solely in the studio’s direction, far from it – untimely leaks and the superhero genre practically go hand in hand at this point. Nevertheless, it’s fair to say that the avalanche of screenshots and leaked scenes – coupled with those detailed descriptions of entire sequences – have threatened to steal some (all?) of the thunder away from Marvel and ABC’s starry new series before it’s even arrived.

But the first trailer is coming – very soon, in fact, now that Marvel’s Facebook channel has churned out a brief trailer tease in which Iwan Rheon’s Maximus the Mad continues to plot his brother’s (Anson Mount) downfall. That sibling rivalry looks set...

Get Your First Look At Lockjaw In Leaked Scene From Marvel’s Inhumans
The reception of the character designs on Marvel’s latest TV series, Inhumans, has been decidedly mixed so far, after the costumes for Black Bolt and Medusa either took liberties with the comics or just looked plain cheap. Still, there is one character who’s been kept under lock and key that fans are getting excited to see. That’s right, we’re talking about Lockjaw.

In case you don’t know, Lockjaw is the loyal pet of the Inhuman royal family. Resembling a giant bulldog, he has the power to teleport himself and his masters from Earth to their home city of Attilan, and vice versa. Because the character can be a difficult one to realize on a TV budget, many have been eager to see how he’d turn out. Well, wonder no more, as our first look at Lockjaw has now leaked online.

Synopsis for Marvel's The Inhumans, Which Promises to Be Unlike Anything You've Seen on TV Before
A new synopsis for Marvel's upcoming series The Inhumans has been released that sheds some light on the story that the series will tell. It reveals that Black Bolt, Medusa, and the rest of the Royal family are hiding out on earth after a military coup back on Attilan, the ancestral home of the Inhumans. The synopsis reads:

After the Royal Family of Inhumans is splintered by a military coup, they barely escape to Hawaii where their surprising interactions with the lush world and humanity around them may prove to not only save them, but Earth itself.

This means that the series will begin with the character Maximus succeed in overthrowing his brother's rule, and the bulk of the series will take place on Earth dealing with Black Bolt's attempts to take back his throne.

With part of this series being shot in IMAX, we already know this isn't going...
