In accepting the Life Achievement Award at the 2025 Screen Actors Guild Awards on February 23, actress and activist Jane Fonda will be cementing a legacy that surpasses even her own father’s, screen legend Henry Fonda. It’s a well-deserved honor for a talent who has continued to reshape herself over the course of her more than six-decade career, but in regards to the reshaping of some of her most famous work, Fonda remains skeptical.

When asked how she felt about the current remakes underway for “Barbarella” and “9 to 5” during a recent interview with Vogue, Fonda simply responded, “Good luck.” Despite talent like Edgar Wright and Sydney Sweeney working on the former and Jennifer Aniston and Diablo Cody piecing together the latter, Fonda knows the difficulties of striking gold twice.

Back in 2022, it was announced that Sydney Sweeney will be starring in a retelling of Barbarella, which Jane, now 87, starred in back in 1968. Then last year, it was revealed that Jennifer Aniston and Diablo Cody are working on a remake of the 1980 movie 9 to 5, which Jane starred in alongside Lily Tomlin and Dolly Parton.

In a new interview, Jane was asked about the two remakes, and she had a very blunt response.

Jennifer’s Body and Lisa Frankenstein scribe Diablo Cody is set to produce the feature directorial debut Forbidden Fruits by Meredith Alloway, Deadline reports today.

The film is an adaptation of playwright Lily Houghton’s stageplay Of the Women Came the Beginning of Sin and Through Her We All Die. Alloway and Houghton are co-adapting.

Forbidden Fruits follows “Free Eden employee Apple, who secretly runs a witchy femme cult in the basement of the mall store after hours – with fellow fruits Cherry and Fig. But when new hire Pumpkin challenges their ‘girl boss’ ways, the women are forced to face their own poisons or succumb to a bloody fate.”

In other words, expect a tale of retail and magick.

“Forbidden Fruits grabbed me by the neck the very first time I read it,” Cody told Deadline. “It’s one of the craziest, most creative, beautifully bonkers projects I’ve ever worked on.

As rom-coms have a resurgence in Hollywood, the anti-rom-com is on its way. Cue the ingenuous “I Love You Forever,” which IndieWire can announce has been acquired by Utopia for theatrical distribution after having premiered at the 2024 SXSW Film & TV Festival.

It’s almost shocking to think that the pitch perfect tone-driven ode to millennial milieu is the directorial debut of co-writers Cazzie David and Elisa Kalani. In contrast, it makes perfect sense that ahead-of-her-time tastemaker Diablo Cody produced it.

“Single Drunk Female” breakout star Sofia Black-d’Elia leads the film as law student Mackenzie, who meets the man of her dreams, Finn (Ray Nicholson), at the birthday party of her bestie (writer/director David). LuckyChap and Wattpad Webtoon Studios are teaming up to produce a live-action adaptation of the Webtoon sensation Stagtown. The film will be written and directed by Benjamin Brewer, who previously worked as a VFX artist on Everything Everywhere All At Once. Brewer’s experience also includes directing the film Arcadian, which premiered at SXSW 2024, and co-writing projects like Reptile and The Trust.

Based on Punko’s webcomic, Stagtown has racked up over 18 million views and gained popularity for its haunting story and eerie illustrations.

The plot follows Frankie, Jeremy, and Felix as they uncover the unsettling secrets of Stagtown, a place where residents seem determined to ignore the horrors around them.

In a world where musical biopics seemed to get commissioned with greater ease than any other genre you’d think a Madonna movie would be an instant green light. After all, she’s an icon of pop with an incredibly interesting life story and a back catalogue of hits to rival any musical biopic that has come before.

“After struggling for days in L.A., listening to producers and agents, tell me why I couldn’t make my film — I been working on it for 4 years! Downsize, downscale, think smaller they say. I realized that everything in my life is going to be challenged,” Madonna told her more than 19 million followers.

So it makes sense that Purnell’s latest series — and her debut as an executive producer — is with “Sweetpea,” a show that is like the “female ‘Dexter’ meets ‘Fleabag,'” according to the star.

The Starz official series description bills the dark comedy as a “deviously twisted coming-of-rage story,” something that also resonants with Purnell. And while the “rage” emphasis has been made trendy from creatives such as Taylor Swift to Diablo Cody, “Sweetpea” puts a murderous twist on finding your voice.

Hell may be a teenage girl, but the occult taking over high school halls is nothing new. The 2009 film “Jennifer’s Body,” though, ushered in a new era of “female rage” being shown onscreen. And what better age to capture coming into power than being a teen?

The appropriately titled “Jennifer’s Body” hinges on how high school queen bee Jennifer (Megan Fox) wields her newfound sex appeal. Sure, she may look like a grown woman on the outside, but does teen Jennifer really know how to navigate adult situations? Not quite.

So when Jennifer sets her sights on seducing the lead singer (Adam Brody) of a band touring through town, it doesn’t totally go to plan. Turns out that the aforementioned rockers want to sacrifice a virgin, and Jennifer lies about having no sexual history whatsoever.

Francine Pascal, the author best known for creating hit teen book series “Sweet Valley High,” has died. She was 92.

Pascal died on Sunday in New York, the New York Times reports. The cause of death was lymphoma Pascal’s daughter, Laurie Wenk-Pascal, told the newspaper.

“Sweet Valley High” debuted in 1983 after a friend remarked to Pascal there was no teen version of 1980s soap “Dallas.” Pascal was reportedly inspired to create the series, about blonde Californian twins Jessica and Elizabeth Wakefield, immediately. The books went on to spawn hundreds of sequels and spin-offs detailing the twins at different ages, ranging from middle school to college. There were also some wackier books which saw the twins mixed up in murders and even supernatural events.

It’s been a year and a half since we learned that Universal’s planned Madonna had been scrapped. The original plan saw Juno writer Diablo Cody pen a script that would be directed by Madonna herself. Although the music legend has directed in her time, this was still a pretty unconventional arrangement.

One aspect of the production that looked very promising was the appointment of Julia Garner in the lead role. Garner was chosen by Madonna herself, reportedly picked out of a song and dance bootcamp and anointed by the Queen of Pop.

In one of the pictures from the slideshow Madonna teased, you see a line drawn across the title M Untitled. The new title of the biopic is Who’s That Girl, a nod to Madonna’s 1987 film and song of the same name.

The script is noted as being “Rewritten by Madonna and Ecw.”

In a new Instagram post, Madonna shared a compilation of photos of her working on a typewriter, with an array of papers around her. In one of the shots, a potential title — Who’s That Girl, a nod to her 1987 song and film of the same name — is seen on the first page of what looks like a script.

Another glimpse at the script reads “rewrites by Madonna and Ecw,” seemingly referring to Secretary writer Erin Cressida Wilson, who was brought onto the project after Diablo Cody had to step away from it. Amy Pascal was set to produce the movie originally.
