But there’s a twist. It will be streamed in an old-school format. This is the first soap opera in audio format since 1960.

Past, Present, Future

In June 2010, Carly (Laura Wright) hired Brook Lynn (then played by Adrienne Leon) to break up Lulu (then played by Julie Marie Berman) and Dante (Dominic Zamprogna). Carly was upset that Dante, a cop, had exposed Michael’s (Chad Duell) role in Claudia’s (Sarah Joy Brown) murder. Brook Lynn drugged Dante and made it look like they had slept together, but the plan ultimately failed when Dante remained loyal to Lulu. Lulu found out about Brook Lynn’s scheme in September 2010 and confronted her, leading to a major blowout between them. Lulu saw her as a manipulative liar. By early 2011, Brook Lynn left town, but the damage to their relationship was already done.

Brook Lynn (now played by Amanda Setton) returned to Port Charles in November 2019, now more business-focused but still fiery.

It was a difficult week for General Hospital fans because of Charles Mesure’s departure as Jack Brennan. This is not the first time a new actor has taken over a beloved character. Sometimes, it just takes some getting used to.

One Two Three Four

Charles Mesure made a great Brennan. Among other things, he was loved because of his chemistry with Carly. But let’s not forget that Laura Wright is the fourth actress to play the role.

Sarah Joy Brown was the original Carly. Fans loved her for the five years she resided in Port Charles, and she won three Emmys. It was hard to imagine anyone else playing Sonny’s (Maurice Benard) wife, but Tamara Braun stepped in and made the part her own.

Jennifer Bransford was the next version of Carly, but viewers did not embrace the actress, and she was let go after a few short months.

Soap opera recasts are a dicey proposition. Soap fans are loyal to a fault and it’s hard to predict who they will accept and who they reject as recast characters. Everyone has an opinion, and there is no right or wrong here, just personal preference based on a myriad of factors.

Alexa Havins debuts as Laura’s (Genie Francis) beloved daughter and Dante’s (Dominic Zamprogna) ex-wife on Monday, November 18. The character, last played by Emme Rylan, has been in a coma since 2000. Daytime fans will remember Havens as Babe Carey Chandler, the character she played on All My Children from 2003 to 2007 and again in 2011.

General Hospital viewers will see Alexa Havins make her Port Charles debut next week as NuLulu.

Alexa may be a familiar face to viewers who have been ABC daytime fans for years. She appeared on All My Children and One Life to Live before both soaps were canceled over a decade ago.

She will play Lesley Lu “Lulu” Spencer, the daughter of supercouple Luke (Anthony Geary) and Laura (Genie Francis). Julie Marie Berman and Emme Rylan were the actresses in the role before Alexa was cast, but she isn’t attempting to mirror either one.

It’s been four years since Lulu went comatose in the explosion at the Floating Rib, and after Sam (Kelly Monaco) donated part of her liver to save her, she is waking up. However, the donation also cost Sam her life.

Havins spoke with TV Insider ahead of her big return to daytime television. She told the publication that she didn’t want to be like the previous actresses — Julie Marie Berman and Emme Rylan — who portrayed the character.

“In no way, shape, or form do I want to mimic the other two ladies. I’m not trying to be them in any way,” Havins said. “Julie’s Julie and Emme’s Emme. Obviously, it’s going to be a more mature version of her, and I’m me, and I can’t be them.

“Lulu is a spitfire,” continued the actress.

Fans Not Happy That Sam Died So Lulu Could Live

Lulu Spencer has been in a coma on Gh since 2020. The show made the decision to bring the character back but at a huge cost. Fans found out in August that actress Kelly Monaco was let go from the show. Her character, Sam McCall, died last week after undergoing surgery to donate her liver in a life-saving measure for Lulu.

While fans of the soap didn’t want Lulu Spencer to succumb to her illness, they can’t make sense of why it was necessary for Sam to die or the beloved actress to leave.

The anticipation for Lulu’s return on General Hospital is high. After a bomb destroyed the Floating Rib restaurant in 2020, Lulu — then played by Emme Rylan — ended up in a coma. Ever since, she has been in a long-term care facility. But the meds she was given took a toll on her liver. So, she underwent a risky transplant operation. The donor, Sam, died from a heart attack while in recovery, and Lulu’s mom, Laura, has been begging her daughter to emerge from her comatose state. Lulu’s return is imminent, and we now know when Alexa Havins will officially take on the role. And it’s just around the corner.

The Time Is Imminent

Because Sam (Kelly Monaco) died and the hospital wants to transfer Lulu back to the care facility, Laura has been at her daughter’s side begging for her to awaken so that Sam’s death would mean something.
