As her film ‘Daag’ completes 50 years in Hindi cinema on Thursday, actress Sharmila Tagore shared anecdotes related to the movie, her collaboration with Yash Chopra and what made her pairing with Rajesh Khanna iconic.

The film also saw the birth of Yash Raj Films. ‘Daag’ stars the late Rajesh Khanna, Sharmila Tagore and Rakhee. It is considered one of the most landmark romantic films of Indian cinema.

Sharmila said: “I think it’s wonderful that it’s now 50 years since we made Daag, yet the movie and the songs remain so popular. In fact, recently Manoj Bajpayee (I made Gulmohar with him) was constantly singing Ek Chehre Pe Dusre Chehre Laga Dete Hai Log. I had to tell him please don’t sing it.”

Mumbai, March 14 (Ians) Actor Jatin Goswami, who is known for his work in ‘The Great Indian Murder’, ‘Delhi Crime 2’, and others, talked about his role in the movie ‘Gulmohar’ and what made him say ‘yes’ to the project.

He also shared his working experience with veteran actress Sharmila Tagore and actor Manoj Bajpayee.

Sharing about what prompted him to take up the role, he said: “It was easy to say yes because the script is so good. With too much focus on crime and violence these days, reading the script of ‘Gulmohar’ is like a breath of fresh air for me. Most of the characters I’ve played have been a bit negative and so this was a very different character to play from what I’ve done before; it was very enjoyable playing this role. It’s always interesting to portray different characters because then it becomes more fun...

With appreciation constantly flowing in for his recently released film ‘Gulmohar’ from the audience and critics alike, actor Gandharv Dewan is in a happy place. However, the film, which also stars stalwarts like Sharmila Tagore and Manoj Bajpayee along with Suraj Sharma of ‘Life of Pi’ fame, came to Gandharv on an off chance, something he never saw coming.

In the film, Gandharv essays the role of a coordinator of a movers and packers company, who helps in the shifting of the house for the family of Sharmila Tagore and Manoj Bajpayee.

The actor told Ians, “When I was given this part, I was very sure that I do not fit into the universe of the film or I don’t fit the part. I thought that they might have made a mistake by considering me for this character.”

The 78-year-old celebrated actress, who is at the moment busy with the promotion of her upcoming film ‘Gulmohar’, an emotional family drama that plays out in upscale Delhi, said: "Oh my God! Holi used to be celebrated madly in Kolkata. I never tried bhang because that was beyond my capacity, but I’ve seen people doing that."

"But we used to play it in our Tripura house. We used to go to the lake and swim there after playing Holi. After coming back, I would find snails in my clothes or stuck in my hair. It was such fun."
