“The Odyssey” is a classic piece of literature by Homer that is divided between 24 different books, preceded by “The Iliad.” It tells the 10-year journey story of Odysseus, king of Ithaca, as he travels home after the Trojan War. Along the way, he encounters multiple perils and discovers the death of his crewmates. Telemachus (Odysseus’ son), Penelope (Odysseus’ wife), Athena, Circe, Poseidon and Zeus are all major characters.

Amazon MGM Studios has tapped Sony to release a handful of its upcoming high-profile movies at the international box office as it goes about building its own foreign operation.

Under the pact, Sony will handle overseas duties for After the Hunt, Mercy, Crime 101 and Project Hail Mary, according to a statement released by the two studios.

Following those releases, Amazon MGM will directly distribute theatrical titles in territories overseas where it launches its own offices, with Sony supporting the studio in other international markets. This doesn’t include the next James Bond movie, which will be handled overseas by Universal.

Greek media site OneMan.com (via ComicBookMovie) is reporting that Anne Hathaway will be playing Penelope in The Odyssey, who is the queen of Ithaca, the daughter of Spartan king Icarius, and the wife of Odysseus, who is being portrayed by Matt Damon in the movie. The site also reports that Charlize Theron is playing the Goddess of Sorcery Circe, with Benny Safdie and Lupita Nyong'o portraying the king of Mycenae, Agamemnon, and his wife, Clytemnestra, respectively. Earlier this year, the Fates rapidly began to weave the threads that would bring us yet another project from the mind of Oscar-winning filmmaker and director, Christopher Nolan, with the retelling of Homer's tale of the mighty Odysseus, King of Ithaca, and his perilous journey home after the Trojan War. Nolan's upcoming mythic action epic, The Odyssey, has since greatly expanded its cast with a plethora of stars, including John Wick's John Leguizamo joining the eagerly anticipated film. It is as large an undertaking as any Nolan has ever ventured into in his illustrious career. With huge expectations, some of Hollywood's brightest stars on the call sheet, and most definitely an enormous budget. Leguizamo reveals that Nolan still manages to make the entire production feel like an independent film.

The Oscar-winning actor is making his Broadway debut in the brand new play, which is being produced by Lincoln Center Theater in assocation with Team Downey.

Here’s a synopsis: “Jacob McNeal (Downey Jr.) is a great writer, one of our greatest, a perpetual candidate for the Nobel Prize in Literature. But McNeal also has an estranged son, a new novel, old axes to grind and an unhealthy fascination with Artificial Intelligence.”

The play, written by Pulitzer Prize winner Ayad Akhtar and directed by Bartlett Sher, is scheduled to play the Lincoln Center’s Vivian Beaumont Theater starting Sept. 5, with an opening Sept. 30.

Additional cast members include Brittany Bellizeare (Flex), Rafi Gavron (A Star is Born) and Saisha Talwar.

The play sees Downey portraying a talented writer who grapples with a new novel, a broken family life and “an unhealthy fascination with artificial intelligence.”

Downey’s production company, Team Downey, is producing, in association with Lincoln Center Theater. The play will mark Downey’s Broadway debut.

Today, daddy caught a metal post to the ankle. Should be interesting moving forward.” He included the “thinky guy” emoji and two photos—one of a bandaged foot, the other looking a bit scratched and puffy. It’s unclear to what degree this injury will delay shooting.

Chris Pratt is off to a rough start on his latest film.

“Mercy filming day 4,” he wrote on Ig Thursday next to a photo of his elevated ankle wrapped in an ice pack. “I have such a great stunt team! And I sometimes try to get in there and do some of my own stuff. Today, daddy caught a metal post to the ankle. Should be interesting moving forward.”

In a second photo, the ice pack is off to reveal a badly swollen and bruised ankle.

Over the last couple of days, Pratt has been snapped filming Mercy around Los Angeles doing his own stunts including him, dressed as an LAPD cop, chasing a guy in Malibu, with both of them ending up in the ocean.

Showtime has released an official trailer for Ghosts of Beirut, a four-part spy drama that revisits the true-life manhunt for the deadly Hezbollah mastermind Imad Mughniyeh, who killed more Americans than any other terrorist before 9/11 as he eluded the CIA and Mossad for over two decades.

“You push the button, and go to Paradise,” a voice-over in Arabic says at one point in the limited series trailer, as Mughniyeh, also known as the Ghost and played by Hisham Suleiman, sets up more deadly terrorist strikes.

The heart-pounding thriller comes from Fauda creators Avi Issacharoff and Lior Raz and will stream on Showtime May 19 before making its on-air debut May 21.
