Space Wars: Quest for the Deepstar very much wants to be one of the plethora of low-budget 1970s knock offs of Star Wars riding the comet tail of that phenomenon. It’s just not bad enough to be lumped in with Bartle Beyond the Stars or the 3-D mess of Spacehunters. Nor is it good enough to be a thoughtful low-budget meditation on the soul. Spoiler Alert… I f**king loved Space Wars: Quest for the Deepstar.

This was quite possibly the most fun I have had watching a sci-fi movie as of late… Any budget! You know you’re in for an absolute ride when in the first 10 minutes the line “I’m going to bathe in your blood and tears” is dropped. Normally a scary thought if it hadn’t been for the massive lava dragon wormy dinosaur thing moments prior.

I will always be a fan of a movie that is fully aware that it maybe doesn’t have the budget it needs to be the movie it wants to be, but does not let that stand in its way of throwing...

Plot: Space scavengers and a group of mercenaries race across the cosmos in a search for a long-lost freighter that is said to contain great treasure.

Review: I have a lot of admiration for filmmakers who don’t let financial limitations stifle their creativity or force them to minimize the scope of their stories. In that regard, there’s a lot to admire about director Garo Setian’s sci-fi adventure film Space Wars: Quest for the Deepstar. Just like the title instantly brings to mind Star Wars, Space Wars is reminiscent of the low budget sci-fi movies producers like Roger Corman pumped out in the wake of the original Star Wars’ success. You know, movies like Battle Beyond the Stars and the movies that featured stock footage from Battle Beyond the Stars. Space Wars just happens to have been made on an even lower budget than those had.

Screen Rant is pleased to present an exclusive first look at the trailer for Space Wars: Quest for the Deepstar, a sci-fi adventure from Uncork'd Entertainment. The action-packed film, which arrives in select theaters on April 21 before becoming available on digital May 2, stars Michael Paré (Streets of Fire), Olivier Gruner (Showdown in Manila), and Sarah French (Pretty Boy). It was selected to screen at Miami International Science Fiction Film Festival, already highlighting its great promise.

Space Wars: Quest for the Deepstar, which was directed by Gero Setian and written by Joe Knetter, follows a father and daughter who work as space scavengers and are searching for legendary treasures which they must outrun evil mercenaries to obtain. It’s been a while since I’ve watched a low-budget sci-fi action movie that wants to be a big-budget sci-fi movie but that’s exactly what you get with Space Wars: Quest For The Deepstar. The filmmakers did not let a lack of funds get in the way of lots of CGI, huge monsters, spacecraft and futuristic weaponry!

In Space Wars: Quest For The Deepstar we see various groups of people crossing paths across the galaxy all linked basically in wanting to kill each other. Of course, we do get the ‘good guys’, the father and daughter duo of Kip (Michael Pare) and Taylor (Sarah French). They soon get chased by a group of outlaws when they pick up...
