After His 57% Rotten Tomatoes Box Office Bomb, M. Night Shyamalan Enlists 'The Pitt' Fan-Favorite for His New Paranormal Romance
Image
M. Night Shyamalan is moving on from Trap with something a little more romantic — but still plenty strange. Remain, his next supernatural thriller, is officially underway, and Deadline has confirmed the ensemble will include none other than Tracy Ifeachor, who broke out earlier this year as ER doctor Heather Collins on The Pitt. Ifeachor joins a packed cast that also includes Ashley Walters, Julie Hagerty, Jay O. Sanders, and Maria Dizzia, alongside previously announced leads Jake Gyllenhaal and Phoebe Dynevor.

The twist? Remain isn’t just a movie. Shyamalan is teaming up with bestselling author Nicholas Sparks on a unique dual project — one story, told two ways: Shyamalan will direct and co-write the film, while Sparks pens a novel based on the same characters and concept. The film will be released by Warner Bros. Pictures on October 23, 2026.

This marks Shyamalan’s first feature since Trap, an eerie, high-concept thriller about...

Remain: Nicholas Sparks, M. Night Shyamalan supernatural romantic thriller adds Julie Hagerty and several more to the cast
Haley Joel Osment in The Sixth Sense (1999)
A while back, it was announced that The Sixth Sense director M. Night Shyamalan and The Notebook author Nicholas Sparks were teaming up for a supernatural romantic thriller called Remain. Shyamalan and Sparks created the original story together, with Shyamalan going off to write a screenplay based on the story while Sparks turned the idea into a novel. As was said at the time, “Both will be based on the same concept and set of characters but designed for their individual mediums.” The Sparks novel is scheduled to reach store shelves this year, on October 7th, and Amazon is already accepting pre-orders for the 352 page book at This Link. The Shyamalan film will reach theatres one year later, just in time for Halloween, as Warner Bros. Pictures has given it an October 23, 2026 release date. Filming began a few weeks ago, and now Deadline has confirmed that Julie Hagerty (Airplane), Jay O. Sanders...

It was Mephisto all along!

Sacha Baron Cohen’s Mephisto makes his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in final episode of Ironheart, and fans have been waiting for this character to arrive for quite some time. In Ironheart, we learn that Parker Robbins (Anthony Ramos) aka The Hood has been slowly corrupted by the red cape he wears throughout the six-episode series. It’s not until the finale that we understand why. As it turns out, the cape was imbued with its nefarious powers by Mephisto. Agatha All Along Concept Art Reveals Alternate Designs For Aubrey Plaza's Death And Joe Locke's Wiccan
Image
Marvel's Agatha All Along introduced two powerful new characters who are sure to play significant roles in the magical/supernatural corner of the MCU down the line. A mysterious "Teen" (Joe Locke) who was confirmed to be Wanda Maximoff's (Elizabeth Olsen) son Billy Kaplan/Wiccan in the season finale (though it was one of the worst-kept secrets in the MCU), and the personification of Lady Death herself (Aubrey Plaza).

We've seen some early concept art for Wiccan and Death already, and we now have some more alternate designs from the recently-released Art of the Series book.

The costumes both characters ended up wearing in the show were arguably more comic-accurate than anything seen in this artwork, but there are some interesting looks here.

Agatha All Along Concept Art Reveals Alternate Costumes For Death, Wiccan, Ghost Agatha, And More
Image
Agatha: The Art of the Series is now on sale, and thanks to The Artbook Collector, we can take a look inside the book and see the many alternate costumes considered for Agatha All Along's leads.

As you'll see in the video below, several different designs were considered for Wiccan's costume. However, Marvel Studios' artists got really experimental with Death, considering some fantastical designs and others more in line with what we've seen in the comics over the years.

Then, there's Ghost Agatha, Agatha Harkness' new form after she sacrificed herself to save Billy Maximoff.

Agatha All Along strongly hinted at a romance between her and Rio Vidal/Death. They locked lips in the penultimate episode, but there was some disappointment over how the relationship was handled on screen. Marvel Studios is struggling to portray its LGBTQ characters in an authentic manner, but showrunner Jac Schaeffer has confirmed the intention...

10 Best Joey King Movies & TV Shows, Ranked
Image
At just 25 years old (as of writing), Joey King has been featured in over 70 films and television shows dating as far back as 2006. Given the sheer volume of work she takes on, it's not shock that many of these have been critical and commercial duds you've either never heard of or wish you'd never heard of, like the "Final Destination" riff-off "Wish Upon," the middling ghost romance "The In Between," and the irredeemably pandering sci-fi thriller "Uglies."

At the same time, King has consistently turned high-quality performances in some memorable projects. Fans of "The Dark Knight Rises," "Crazy Stupid Love," and "The Conjuring" are proof that she's been ready for almost any acting challenge since she first appeared on a screen. From her extensive resume, we picked out our favorite roles and ranked them based on quality and how well they showcase King as an actor.

‘The Graduates’ Movie Ending Explained & Full Story: What Does John Leave For Gen?
Image
The Graduates comes from that long line of modern-day movies where not many things happen; instead, you get to meet a few (mostly) relatable characters and follow them around for a while. However, if moody cinema is your thing, then I’m sure Hannah Peterson’s debut feature worked for you. Not sure if this information is relevant, but American indie cinema happens to be my favorite genre. In fact, it wouldn’t be an exaggeration if I said that I based my personality on the genre thanks to watching a lot of these movies during my formative years as a cinema enthusiast (not all that fond of the word ‘cinephile’). The most admirable thing about The Graduates is not using any flashback scene, which has to be a deliberate creative choice. It only ensures that the movie is really about the aftermath of the tragedy—that too a common one,...

Agatha All Along Showrunner Jac Schaeffer On Rumored Wiccan Spin-Off: "He's An Important Character"
Image
Though there have been conflicting reports about how well the show actually performed on Disney+, Agatha All Along was said to be a pretty big success for Marvel (which is at least partially due to the fact that it's the least expensive Disney+ series yet), and it seems the studio is pleased enough with the viewership that plans are in place to continue these characters' journeys across several different projects.

A recent rumor claimed that a Wiccan solo show was in the works, which Marvel will develop along with the Scarlet Witch movie and a Young Avengers project (we still don't know if that'll be a movie or...

‘Plainclothes’ Review: Carmen Emmi’s Intensely Subjective Tale of Queer Shame and Desire
Image
When it comes to movies, timing is everything. Sexy, scary, and occasionally clumsy, Carmen Emmi’s feature-length directorial debut, Plainclothes, is an anxious and unabashed gay drama about social repression and its impacts. Set in 1997, what might a mere few years ago have been an easily digestible snapshot of an ugly, less liberated gay past is now a bitter pill with something to say about our precarious present.

Lucas (Tom Blyth) is a young police officer tasked with targeting local cruising spots in Syracuse, New York, by luring men into bathroom stalls and charging them with public indecency. Struggling with the recent death of his father and gripped by crippling anxiety, Lucas nonetheless finds himself drawn to one of his targets, Andrew (Russell Tovey), an older, married man who slips Lucas his number after he fails to make the arrest. As their sexual relationship develops, Lucas’s romantic feelings toward...

While it appears that several people, including her boyfriend and her own mother, might have had a motive to kill her, Maddie herself doesn’t remember exactly what happened that night. Here...

‘Plainclothes’ Review: Tom Blyth and Russell Tovey Smolder and Sweat as Closeted Gay Men in Bristling Police Entrapment Drama

A movie all too palpably real for those of us who can remember years of shame, fear and secrecy, Plainclothes follows a young cop assigned to a sting operation, arresting gay men cruising for sex in a mall in Syracuse, New York. His willingness to pose as bait dissolves when he starts facing his own sexual identity while getting obsessive about a similarly closeted hook-up. First-time writer-director Carmen Emmi’s aesthetically overworked use of low-grade video and distorted sound is intrusive, but very fine performances from Tom Blyth and Russell Tovey keep you glued to this sexy, sad, authentically gritty drama.

The strains of Omc’s “How Bizarre” coming over the speakers in a shopping mall instantly position the story in the mid ‘90s. A young cop, Lucas (Blyth), sits in the food court, serving as the tasty bait for gay men on the prowl. An exchange of eye contact,...

Russell Tovey Says LGBTQ Drama ‘Plainclothes’ Is Sadly Resonant in Today’s ‘Terrifying Times’ | Video
Image
As the LGBTQ community continues to face threats to their safety and rights as equal American citizens, the cast and creatives of “Plainclothes” were quick to admit that things feel “terrifying” right now. But that’s what makes their film so important for others to see, they shared.

Having its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival this year, “Plainclothes” tells the story of a promising undercover police officer assigned to lure and arrest gay men, who defies those orders when he falls in love with a target. Starring “The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes” star Tom Blyth, Russell Tovey, Maria Dizzia and others, the film is set in the 1990s.

But stopping by TheWrap’s Sundance Studio presented by World of Hyatt, Tovey said that it unfortunately doesn’t feel like a story of the past.

“The world moves in circles, and you would hope that,...

Agatha All Aong Star Says Show Will Not Return For Second Season; Reveals Marvel Wanted More Wandavision
Image
Marvel Studios' Agatha All Along was originally listed as a miniseries, but the fact that Disney submitted the show in the comedy categories for a number of awards events - including the Golden Globes, SAG Awards, and this year’s Emmy race - led to speculation that a second batch of episodes might be in development.

The Television Academy’s criteria for limited series state: “The program must tell a complete, non-recurring story and not have an ongoing storyline or main characters in subsequent seasons.”

Though a second season hadn't been made official, several different sources claimed that it was only a matter of time, as plans for the show's return were already in place.

Now, star Patti LuPonse (Lilia Calderu) has seemingly dashed hopes of another season of Agatha by revealing that the popular series will not be back for more episodes.

“There won’t be one,” LuPone told...

‘Plainclothes’ Review: Russell Tovey And Tom Blyth Smolder In A Story Of Star-Crossed Lovers – Sundance Film Festival
Image
With gay rights coming back into the crosshairs in almost every country across the globe, Carmen Emmi’s slow-burn drama is sobering reminder of just how far these things have progressed in the past 30 years. Taking place primarily in 1997 — unfolding in flashback from the framing device of a family New Year’s Eve party being held a few years later — it takes a little while to find its feet. Once the main players are established, though, and experimental flashes of harsh analog video become a more recognizable manifestation of its ugly-beautiful aesthetic, Plainclothes builds to a very satisfying conclusion, putting a torrid but meaningful gay love affair at the center of a universal coming-of-age story.

Edgar Allen Poe’s short story The Tell-Tale Heart is an unlikely reference point, not because Plainclothes is a genre film — though it shares a tiny bit of DNA with William Friedkin’s much more...

‘Plainclothes’ Review: A Closeted Cop Is Tempted by the Gay Men He’s Tailing in Steamy ’90s-Set Psychodrama
Image
These days, gay men can arrange sex by a smartphone app as easily as ordering a pizza. But back in the ’90s, when “Plainclothes” takes place, such trysts not only had to be coordinated in person, but could be punished by arrest. Audiences of a certain age and demographic almost certainly remember the risk and fear (not to mention the illicit excitement) of the hunt, back when undercover police monitored public “tearooms” for lewd behavior. In writer-director Carmen Emmi’s “we’ve come a long way, baby” debut, the cops take it one step further, luring frisky men into exposing themselves.

But what if the officer in question was closeted and one of these strangers slipped him his phone number? That’s the intriguing — if credulity-stretching — premise of “Plainclothes,” which casts Tom Blyth (the outlaw star of Epix’s “Billy the Kid”) as Lucas, a second-generation cop with all kinds of identity issues.

Tom Blyth and Russell Tovey Are Undercover Lovers in Sundance’s Sexy, Dangerous ‘Plainclothes’ — Watch an Exclusive Clip
Image
Like “Cruising” for the 1990s New Queer Cinema set, Carmen Emmi’s feature debut “Plainclothes” features the most emotionally (and physically) naked performance yet from rising British star Tom Blyth. He plays Lucas, a rookie cop somewhere outside Syracuse assigned to post up in one of those bland, sad Malls of America, hoping to lure men into a toilet stall — and into exposing themselves or more.

This clandestine, bait-and-catch operation was the sort of problematic police procedure that got people like George Michael into trouble for lewd conduct. Here, it forms the basis of a thriller — and one with shades of romance when Lucas’ own secret attraction to men starts overtaking him. And especially in the form of Russell Tovey, sparking a hesitant hook-up and possible romance after Lucas catches Andrew (Tovey) in the bathroom, only to end up lingering too long.

IndieWire shares an exclusive clip for the film in the video above.

School Spirits season 2 is coming sooner than expected
Image
One of the best teen drama series is set to make its comeback this month. We're talking about School Spirits, the show that captivated audiences with its mix of mystery, supernatural elements, and relatable high school drama. After an almost two-year wait, the long-awaited second season will finally hit Paramount+, and fans are eager to dive back into the gripping storyline and see what twists and turns await the characters.

Megan and Nate Trinrud, a talented sister and brother duo, created School Spirits. The first season premiered on Paramount+ back in March 2023. But instead of dropping all eight of its episodes at once, the first three were released on the premiere date, followed by one episode a week until its season finale. Paramount+ will follow the same release schedule for the upcoming School Spirits season 2.

The first three episodes of the second season are slated to be released on Paramount+ on Thursday,...

School Spirits Season 2 Trailer and Key Art Debut
Image
Paramount+ today revealed the official trailer and premiere date for season two of its hit original drama series School Spirits. Produced by Awesomeness TV, the new season will debut on Thursday, January 30, with three episodes in the U.S., Canada and Latin America.

The season will also launch exclusively on Paramount+ in the UK and Australia on January 31, and later in the year in additional markets. Following the premiere, new episodes of the eight-episode season will be available to stream weekly on Thursdays, on Paramount+.

Picking up from the shocking season one finale, the premiere episode “Whatever Happened to Maddie Nears?” follows Maddie Nears (Peyton List) as she works to bring a doubting Simon (Kristian Ventura), her only connection to the living world, back on board to help her track down and collect her missing body.

Throughout the season, Maddie Nears is still stuck in the afterlife with the knowledge...

School Spirits Season 2 Premiere Date Revealed: Here’s Why We’re Already Concerned
Image
The ghosts in Split River High School are scary enough already, but Paramount+ just pulled a move that is far scarier.

The streaming platform announced this morning that School Spirits Season 2 will premiere on Thursday, January 30, with a three-episode drop.

While we’re excited to get some much-needed resolution to the many mysteries School Spirits Season 1 threw our way, the fact that it premieres in just over a week is concerning.

(Paramount+/Screenshot)

Promotion can make or break any project, so announcing a premiere date this close to the debut date doesn’t instill hope that many people will find it.

School Spirits Season 1 had a devoted audience, but it’s hard to tell whether they’ll get the message in time that new episodes are available to devour.

Genre shows are disappearing before our very eyes, and the last thing we need is for School Spirits to face a similar fate.

Season two will premiere on January 30, 2025 with the release of the first three episodes. New episodes stream on Thursdays.

10 Best Movies Like The Brutalist
Image
Brady Corbet's historical epic, The Brutalist, earned rave reviews in 2024, and recently won some key Golden Globe Awards, leaving many to wonder what kind of movie The Brutalist is, and what to watch like it. Premiering at the 81st Venice International Film Festival, The Brutalist follows László Tóth, an architect and Jewish immigrant from Hungary who moves to America, hoping to find success after the devastation of World War II. After a chance meeting with a wealthy businessman, Tóth's luck begins to change. The Brutalist is rising in popularity due to its amazing reviews, but also its shocking runtime.

There are many aspects of watching The Brutalist that make it different from an average blockbuster. First, the movie is 215 minutes long, which is more than 3 1/2 hours. Movies of that length typically boast epic stories that take place over many years, and The Brutalist is no different. Furthermore, this movie...

Agatha All Along Star Kathryn Hahn Says She Is Not "Personally Done With Playing This Witch"
Image
Marvel Studios' Agatha All Along was originally listed as a miniseries, but the fact that Disney submitted the show in the comedy categories for the upcoming awards season led to speculation that a second batch of episodes might be in development.

Rumors that a second season is in the planning stages soon followed, and while Marvel has yet to make it official, we will almost certainly see Miss Harkness in the MCU again in some capacity.

Star Kathryn Hahn - who lost out on a Best Actress Golden Globe during Sunday's ceremony - was asked about the awards submissions and what they could mean for a second season while speaking to TV Line on the red carpet.

“It does suggest that,” the actress conceded. “I am as in-the-dark as you are. There’s going to be a Vision show, so that could be of a trilogy. But who knows?”

“Am...

The 15 Healthiest Couples in Romance Movies
Image
Contrary to popular belief, it is possible to balance high stakes, conflict, and healthy relationships in romantic movies. Toxic couples who fight all the time and break up and then get back together can be exciting in a movie, but there's something special about mature, functional relationships. Healthy couples respect each other's autonomy, communicate effectively, and appreciate each person's unique qualities.

A romance doesn't have to be boring to be mature and refreshingly kind. They exist in even the goofiest and most entertaining comedies, like George of the Jungle. There are many ways to depict happy relationships, and these movie couples prove that love on the big screen can be healthy and scintillating.

Updated on January 3, 2025, by Andrea Sandoval: While romance movies are some of people's favorite genres, they are often riddled with clichés, toxic tropes, and problematic relationships. Oftentimes, these films portray unrealistic and harmful ideals, like love at first sight,...

Agatha All Along Now Officially Listed As "Season 1" On Disney+
Image
Recent rumors have claimed that Agatha All Along will return for a second batch of episodes, and while Marvel Studios has yet to make it official, the WandaVision spin-off - which was originally tagged as a miniseries - is now listed as "season 1" on Disney+.

We already had a pretty good idea that Marvel had plans to renew the series when Disney submitted it in the comedy categories for the upcoming awards season (star Kathryn Hahn was recently nominated for a Golden Globe), since the Television Academy’s criteria for limited series state: “The program must tell a complete, non-recurring story and not have an ongoing storyline or main characters in subsequent seasons.”

The season finale concluded with Agatha Harkness (Hahn) sacrificing herself to save Billy Maximoff (Joe Locke) by planting a kiss on her former lover Rio Vidal, aka Death (Aubrey Plaza).

As we know, dying in the Marvel...

‘Before’ Episode 9 Recap & Ending Explained: Did Eli Kidnap Noah?
Image
In episode 8 of Before, Eli sort of proved that he and Noah were “connected” because the child psychologist had a random nosebleed right when Noah smashed his face into a window to protest his shift from St. Benedict’s to a facility in Ithaca. Maybe that little stunt stalled the authorities, but it certainly didn’t stop Eli from taking a trip to the farmhouse that Noah kept referencing in all his artwork. Apparently, that was the last place that Benjamin and Lynn had gone to prior to his sudden death. Eli also met his end at that farmhouse, after witnessing a series of disjointed visuals, but since Cleo was with him, she decided to dial 911 and get the elderly child psychologist to a hospital. It wasn’t clear if the infected wound that he had sustained while throwing a temper tantrum in his house in the first episode was...

Agatha All Along Star Kathryn Hahn On Possible MCU Return: "This Was A Beautiful Way To Say Goodbye"
Image
The season finale of Agatha All Along concluded with Agatha Harkness (Kathryn Hahn) sacrificing herself to save Billy Maximoff (Joe Locke) by planting a kiss on her former lover Rio Vidal, aka Death (Aubrey Plaza).

Of course, dying in the Marvel Cinematic Universe doesn't necessarily mean the end of the road - especially for a powerful witch.

In the final moments of the episode, Harkness returns in spirit form and accompanies Wiccan on his quest to locate his brother Tommy. Showrunner Jac Schaeffer has already hinted at future plans for these characters, but if Hahn didn't get the chance to reprise her role, it sounds like she'd be very happy with her ghostly send-off.

“Even though obviously now Billy/Wiccan is not her son, there is some sort of hope for her that she’s able to maybe do for him what she couldn’t do for Nicky. I think...

"Creepy Exorcist Vibe": Stephen King Praises New Apple TV+ Thriller, Siding With The Audience On Rotten Tomatoes
Image
Stephen King shares his praise for a new Apple TV+ thriller, matching the audience's sentiment. Apple TV+ has been on a run of consistently releasing new original shows over the past few years, with the genre frequently falling into the thriller category. Oftentimes, those thrillers will have a sci-bent, with Silo, Dark Matter, and Severance. But the preference for tense stories also extends beyond the science fiction realm.

Lady in the Lake, led by Natalie Portman, was a murder mystery presented as a thriller. The same is true for The Crowded Room, starring Tom Holland and Amanda Seyfried, which was a crime drama that often veered into the direction of a paranoid and shaky narrative with an unreliable protagonist at the center. One of the newest thrillers from the streamer continues the trend, including another big actor, though responses have been split.

King Is A Fan Of Before The New...

Agatha All Along Concept Art Reveals Alternate Design For Aubrey Plaza's "Rio Vidal"
Image
Artist Daniel Selon has taken to Instagram to share some of his concept art for Aubrey Plaza's Rio Vidal in the outfit she wore during her fight with Agatha Harkness (Kathryn Hahn) towards the end of the series premiere of Marvel Studios' Agatha All Along.

This design isn't a million miles away from the costume that made it to the screen, but there are a few subtle diffrences, with the hood pulled back to show more of Rio's hair and the sash slightly higher on her chest. The final look also reveals more of the character's ribs.

"This look needed to keep Rio’s identity mysterious and also show her as a formidable force (and also be sexy powerful)," writes Selon. "We needed to believe that what she’s wearing could exist in the real contemporary world but also hint at an otherworldly power. I turned to my...
