If an entirely new Harry Potter TV series wasn't enough, Audible will debut an ensemble cast audio dramatization of the beloved novels later this year.
The audio series follows in the footsteps of previous successful Audible dramas, such as 1984 and The Sandman, boasting a stellar cast with names such as Hugh Laurie as Albus Dumbledore, Matthew Macfadyen as Lord Voldemort, and Riz Ahmed as Professor Snape.
Another major casting sees Michelle Gomez take on the role of Hogwarts Professor Minerva McGonagall. Naturally, people have taken issue with yet another Harry Potter adaptation, and many have also thrown shade at the cast for taking part in an adaptation of J.K. Rowling's work.
In the case of Gomez, she quickly took to her Instagram Story (per Entertainment Weekly) to speak out against Rowling's anti-trans views.

As the world gears up to watch the new — and already highly anticipated — Harry Potter TV series, Pottermore took the opportunity to announce the cast of yet another adaptation of the novel series written by J.K. Rowling. Titled Harry Potter: The Full-Cast Audio Editions, the project brought to life by Pottermore Publishing and Audible has rounded out a high-profile cast to bring the classic story to life in audio format. The new Audible editions start rolling out this November.
The new version differs from traditional audiobook readings because it features a full cast of 200+ voice actors, whereas the common practice is to have one person reading the full content. Pottermore Publishing spared no expense when selecting the main cast members for the project: Hugh Laurie (House) will play Albus Dumbledore, Riz Ahmed (Sound of Metal) will voice Severus Snape, and Michelle Gomez (Doctor Who) will embody fan favorite Professor McGonagall.

Right now, the Harry Potter franchise is entering a new era. The beloved original movies are all over a decade old at this point, and they still remain a cultural behemoth. Yet still, an all-new live-action adaptation has already begun filming, coming to HBO in 2027. And that's not all: Audible will soon debut a full-cast audio drama of the books.
Of course, Harry Potter has been around in audiobook form for years and years. Look no further than the version narrated by Stephen Fry, which is probably the most famous audiobook version of the story. However, the new project being cooked up by Audible is far from a traditional audiobook; it's a full-blown, ensemble cast audio dramatization. It adapts all seven novels in immersive Dolby Atmos, with an original score and real-world sound effects.

Wes Anderson is an acclaimed filmmaker known globally for his distinctive visual and storytelling style. The 56-year-old Academy Award-winning director has delivered several memorable films, including the India-set comedy-drama The Darjeeling Limited (2007), the animated adventure Fantastic Mr. Fox (2009), The Grand Budapest Hotel (2014), the sci-fi comedy-drama Asteroid City (2023), and the fantasy anthology The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar and Three More (2024).
Much like his earlier films, Wes Anderson’s latest star-studded release, The Phoenician Scheme, also earned widespread critical acclaim. However, despite the positive reviews, the film managed to gross only $38.7 million at the global box office, according to Box Office Mojo. In a silver lining of sorts, The Phoenician Scheme has now become a streaming hit in the U.S. on the Peacock platform, as per FlixPatrol. With a new film featuring a star-studded ensemble led by an Oscar-winner, Wes Anderson did wonders with his most recent pic, which is now a streaming hit in the U.S. The Phoenician Scheme, starring Benicio del Toro, hit theaters nationwide on May 30, and less than two months later, on July 25, it landed on Peacock, where it has maintained a very well-deserved dominating spot.
Per FlixPatrol, The Phoenician Scheme is #1 on Peacock in the U.S., a spot it has held on to since arriving on the streamer, except on July 29, when it climbed down to second place. Meghann Fahy’s thriller Drop now takes up that position, with Robert De Niro’s 2023 comedy, About My Father, as #3. Rounding out the top five are the 2008 animation Horton Hears a Who! and Hotel Transylvania 2.

“Relay” is an accomplished conspiracy thriller that echoes “New Hollywood” classics like “Three Days of the Condor” or “The Parallax View,” as it’s an examination of a whistleblower’s attempts to survive an all-powerful system. The difference between the 1970s and the 21st century is that now corporations and businesses are just as influential as governments; in fact, the secrecy involved in an employer-led manhunt is more terrifying than legal persecution, as a private company does not have to abide by the rules of the judiciary. While “Relay” makes a fatal mistake in its final act that invalidates much of the worldbuilding that it had already established, it’s still a worthwhile watch that serves as a compelling revamp of a quintessential subgenre.

Italy’s Prada Foundation has announced it is mounting a film installation by Oscar-winning Mexican director Alejandro G. Iñárritu to celebrate the 25th anniversary of his first feature “Amores Perros.” The Mexico City-set triptych starred Gael García Bernal in his breakout role and won the Critics’ Week Award at Cannes Film Festival.
Titled “Sueño Perro: A Film Installation by Alejandro G. Iñárritu,” the piece will unveil plenty of previously unseen footage from the visceral film, which weaves together three stories connected by a car crash. It delves into Mexico City’s underbelly through the tales of a teenager who gets involved in dogfighting, a model who loses a leg in the car crash and a troubled hitman.
The installation will be unveiled on Sept. 18 at the Prada Foundation’s Milan headquarters. It will then travel to the LagoAlgo cultural center in Mexico City — where it will be on display from Oct.

I don’t like the cinema of Wes Anderson. It reminds me of those disjointed incoherent self consciously capricious film-school projects where the student wants to let the world he doesn’t care a fig about the rules.
Continuing his flabbergasting quest for the crest of quirkiness, Wes Anderson has now come up with The Phoenician Scheme a film that rattles all rationale and stirs up a storm in a teacup. Like other Anderson oddities this one too is visualized in cartoonstrip colours, mostly pale green, and a mood of mythologized satire , which itself is problematic for any serious viewing.

Rating: Can’t Be Rated

Tom Cruise starred in one of the biggest movies of the year with Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning, but now that the film has been playing in theaters for nearly two months, it’s finally time for it to take its next step. Paramount Pictures has officially announced that the eighth (and likely final) Mission: Impossible movie is coming to digital platforms like Prime Video and Fandango at Home on August 19, just under one month from today. This comes after the film is finally winding down its run at the box office with $588 million globally, including $195 million from domestic markets and $392 million internationally. The Final Reckoning sees Tom Cruise suit up as Ethan Hunt one last time for his most important mission yet: stopping the Entity once and for all.

Lily James is keen to play "unlikely roles".The 36-year-old actress - who stars alongside Riz Ahmed and Sam Worthington in the thriller film Relay - has revealed that she's eager to challenge herself in her professional life.Asked if she would've been interested in Relay if it was more "conventional", Lily told The Hollywood Reporter: "Honestly, I was so excited to work with [director] David Mackenzie and Riz that I almost would’ve done any old thing that they put in front of me. "That being said, you love to find work that’s surprising and characters that take you in a direction you didn’t anticipate. And particularly at this point in my career, I want to keep pushing myself to play unlikely roles, roles that surprise me, and have something to get my teeth into. So that [unconventionality] was definitely what was very appealing about this role and story.

Lily James’ upcoming slate of films are throwbacks in uniquely different ways.
Beginning with Saverio Costanzo’s 1950s-set Italian drama Finally Dawn, James plays Josephine Esperanto, an Elizabeth Taylor-type movie star who ropes a rejected background artist (Rebecca Antonaci’s Mimosa) into a pivotal scene of her sword-and-sandals epic. From there, Josephine, her co-star Sean Lockwood (Joe Keery) and her jack-of-all trades, Rufo Priori (Willem Dafoe), pressure Mimosa into exploring Rome’s nightlife with them.
While en route to one of their two destinations, Sean Lockwood’s acting insecurities get the better of him, and Josephine makes a half-hearted attempt to compliment their scene work that day. According to James, it’s a highly relatable scene for most actors.
“At their worst, actors are an insecure bunch of self-obsessed, needy humans. Actors and artists are often called upon to be very vulnerable…so it can trigger some serious insecurity and a need for validation,...

The BBC documentary Gaza: How to Survive a Warzone breached one of the broadcaster’s editorial guidelines by failing to disclose a child’s connection to Hamas, a report published on Monday has found.
The corporation came under fire in February when one of the 13-year-old subjects in the film, a young boy called Abdullah Al-Yazouri, was found to be the son of Hamas’ deputy minister of agriculture.
The BBC pulled the doc from its streaming service, BBC iPlayer, and apologized for the “unacceptable flaws” in airing the program. It said at the time that production company Hoyo Films “assured [the BBC] that no payments were made to members of Hamas or its affiliates, either directly, in kind, or as a gift”.
A review by Peter Johnston — independent of BBC News and current affairs — was ordered and made available on Monday. The review team identified and considered 5000 documents from a 10-month production period,...

Exclusive: When the BBC screened Gaza: How to Survive a Warzone in February, there were hopes that the film would win awards. Fast forward six months, and the BBC will next week publish a delayed investigation into how the documentary descended into disaster.
Peter Johnston, the BBC’s director of editorial complaints and reviews, has examined what led to How to Survive a Warzone being narrated by the child of a Hamas minister, without this crucial fact being declared to audiences. The film, which was an unsparing portrayal of the chaos in Gaza from the perspective of three young people, was later removed from iPlayer.
Sources familiar with the review said Johnston had been forensic, with the expectation being that his findings will be chastening for the BBC, even though the corporation has been accused of marking its own homework. He will ultimately determine whether editorial rules were broken and...

Director Wes Anderson appeared to be in quite a comfortable position until some years ago. He’d make his inimitable movies on controlled budgets and deliver dependable results at the box office. But things changed after the pandemic, as they did for the entire industry. Only one of his three post-pandemic releases has managed to pass the $50 mark worldwide, and his latest, The Phoenician Scheme, is poised to conclude its run having fallen significantly short of expectations. In fact, the ensemble drama is his lowest-grossing film in nearly two decades.
With $18 million domestically and another $17 million from overseas markets, the film’s cumulative global haul currently stands at $35 million. The Phoenician Scheme was produced on a reported budget of $30 million, which is roughly the same amount that Anderson’s last two films — The French Dispatch and Asteroid City — also cost. Tom Cruisemight be the biggest movie star in the world at the moment, but it seems that doesn't mean studios are still not reluctant to fulfill his big-budget action endeavors. Despite the Mission: Impossible franchise ending earlier this year, Cruise is not slowing down anytime soon, as he has an undersea thriller set up with Doug Liman at the helm as his next major project. However, it seems fans will have to wait longer for it to come to fruition, as the major studio backing has seemingly pulled out.

David Mackenzie, the director behind Hell or High Water—arguably Taylor Sheridan’s most underrated and critically acclaimed film—returns this summer with Relay, a sleek new thriller starring Riz Ahmed and Lily James, and based on the atmosphere in the trailer, paranoia is back on the menu. The new movie, which had its world premiere at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival to strong reviews, will officially hit theaters on August 22, courtesy of Bleecker Street. Critics have already called Relay “a twisty, confident homage to classic paranoid thrillers” and “a great ride, firing on all cylinders”—with a strong Rotten Tomatoes score of 81% to back it up.
In Relay, Ahmed plays a hyper-disciplined fixer who operates in total secrecy, brokering dangerous deals between whistleblowers and the shady corporations who want them silenced. There's no personal involvement, everything is off the record, none of this ever happened. That is, until James...

A new thriller, from the director of Taylor Sheridan's Western with a 97% on Rotten Tomatoes, gets a gripping first trailer. Sheridan is best known as the co-creator behind the popular neo-Western series Yellowstone and its various prequels, including 1883 and 1923. He has since created several streaming series for Paramount+, including Mayor of Kingstown, Tulsa King, Lioness, and Landman.
In addition to these television series, Sheridan has also written several films, including the screenplay for Sicario, directed by Denis Villeneuve, and its sequel Sicario: Day of the Soldado, directed by Stefano Sollima. Sheridan scored an Oscar nomination for Best Original Screenplay for writing the neo-Western Hell or High Water, directed by David Mackenzie.
He also wrote, in addition to directing, the neo-Western Wind River, the third and final installment in Sheridan's spiritual trilogy exploring crime on the modern-day American frontier. More recently, Sheridan co-wrote the action thrillers Without Remorse (directed once...

Bleecker Street has unveiled the first full trailer for “Relay,” director David Mackenzie’s thriller starring Riz Ahmed and Lily James, and set an August 22, 2025 U.S. theatrical date. The film bowed at TIFF last September and will have its U.S. festival launch at Tribeca on June 7 before expanding nationwide.
The two-minute preview positions Ahmed’s character Tom—an enigmatic “fixer” who brokers hush-money deals between corporations and would-be whistle-blowers—as he agrees to protect biotech scientist Sarah, played by James, whose leak threatens a powerful chemical firm. The tense clip, rolled out across studio channels and sites such as JoBlo and The Playlist, leans on sparse dialogue and quick-cut action to highlight Mackenzie’s return to the crime genre after Hell or High Water.
Entertainment Weekly’s first-look feature notes that Ahmed remains silent for the film’s opening half-hour, underscoring Tom’s reliance on anonymity and rigid...

Having premiered at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival, it’s been a while since we heard any news on Hell or High Water director David Mackenzie’s latest movie, Relay. But now we have the full trailer ahead of its release next month.
In the trailer for Relay, we see Lily James’s Sarah in desperate need of help when she comes into possession of potentially dangerous documents, being redirected to a man who we hear say, “I help people who see things they shouldn’t have. Maybe they should have looked the other way but they can’t.” What follows is a web of paranoia and intrigue that seems to call back to a genre of thriller that seems almost non-existent now.
Here is the official plot synopsis, as per Bleecker Street: “In Relay, Riz Ahmed plays a world class “fixer” who specializes in brokering lucrative payoffs between corrupt...

"Has it ever gone wrong?" "Sometimes we have to walk away..." Bleecker Street has unveiled the trailer for a movie called Relay, a clever thriller from filmmaker David Mackenzie. This first premiered at last year's Toronto Film Festival to mixed reviews, and it just played at this year's Tribeca Film Festival as well. A world-class "fixer" is enlisted by an alluring, unpredictable whistleblower in a "twisty, confident homage to classic paranoid thrillers". A broker of lucrative payoffs between corrupt corporations and the individuals who threaten them breaks his own rules when a new client seeks his protection to stay alive. TIFF says the film is "riddled with ingenious feats of misdirection, novel set pieces, and jaw-dropping twists that would have made Hitchcock proud." Starring Riz Ahmed & Lily James, along with Sam Worthington, Willa Fitzgerald, Matthew Maher, Mike Holt, and Eisa Davis. The film currently has 81% on Rt, and looks intriguing enough to watch.

Riz Ahmed is cleaning up corporate messes, one corrupt client at a time, for David Mackenzie‘s “Relay.” The film, which debuted at TIFF 2024 and was later acquired by Bleecker Street, stars “The Night Of” alum as an anonymous “fixer” who specializes in brokering lucrative payoffs between corporations and individuals threatening to expose them. However, after one client’s case proves to be even more layered than usual, things go sideways.
The official synopsis reads: “A nameless character, he keeps his identity a secret by using a message relay service called Relay, which is usually used by people with a hearing or speech disability to make and receive telephone calls via text. Yet when a message arrives from a potential client (Lily James) who needs his protection just to stay alive, Ahmed’s character abandons his own ironclad rules of communication.” Sam Worthington, Willa Fitzgerald, Matthew Maher, Helen Eigenberg, Pun Bandhu,...

Oscar winner Riz Ahmed and Baby Driver star Lily James star in the first trailer for next month’s dazzlingly clever high-concept thriller directed by David Mackenzie, best known for helming the critically acclaimed, Taylor Sheridan-penned neo-Western Hell or High Water. The 2025 thriller follows a reclusive middleman for would-be whistleblowers seeking to settle with corporate malefactors and has already been met with rave reviews from critics after debuting at the Toronto International Film Festival in September last year.
Titled Relay, the thriller stars Avatar actor Sam Worthington alongside Ahmed and James and is all set to hit theaters on August 22, 2025. Relay director David Mackenzie promises that the thriller “is a tense New York thriller which is very much of the now but has echoes of the great soulful paranoid thrillers of the '70s.”
