Gotham Villains' Pets Unite in Barkham Asylum - Starring Joker's Dog
Image
The pets of Gotham's most notorious villains unite in a new graphic novel, titled Barkham Asylum! The new middle grade book gives young readers a humorous look at the animal sidekicks of some of Gotham’s most vile villains - including the Joker, Harley Quinn, Poison Ivy and more. The book goes on sale in early 2024, and is written and drawn by Yehudi Mercado.

A DC Comics press release gives fans their first look at advanced art, shared below. The story kicks off when Jester, the Joker’s dog, is sent to Barkham Asylum alongside stray cat Penny. The pair unite with Barkham's other pets to combat the evil Dr. Hugo Mange and reunite the animals with their villainous masters.

Discussing the personal inspiration behind Barkham Asylum, Mercado sets up the idea that Jester may have a nasty surprise in store after reuniting with the Joker, saying:

When crafting this graphic novel,...

Man Of Steel Pop Art Print - Superman Vs. Zod
Here's an incredibly cool limited edition Man of Steel illustration created by Yehudi Mercado. The print shows Superman in the middle of his epic fight with Zod, who obviously isn't doing too well. It looks like Superman is about to throw him through a building. There was a hell of a lot of that going on in the film. The artist only made 30 of them. If you want to see if any more are available, click here.

Thanks to the artist for sending this out to us!

Game of Thrones... Muppet Style
I would have never thought of mashing up characters from the HBO series Game of Thrones with characters from Jim Henson's The Muppets, but here we are. The images here were created by Yehudi Mercado, and you can even buy them as a set of 5"x7" postcards. These are awesomely cool, at the same time a little disturbing, especially if you watched the series knowing what happens to these characters and what kind of people they are. The collection is called Game of Thrones of Muppets, enjoy!

Game of Thrones (2011)
Photos: Crazy Cool Muppets, 'Game Of Thrones' Mashup
Game of Thrones (2011)
One is a beloved classic franchise of Hollywood-centric, musical theater-singing animal puppets. The other, a new hit medieval fantasy show about killing people. So it's only a natural fit that they're mashed up together.

Where most people would see the Muppets and the HBO hit "Game of Thrones" as entirely disparate worlds, artist and director Yehudi Mercado saw parallels. So many, in fact, that he just had to draw them.

The initial inspiration, he told The Huffington Post, came from a conversation with his comic book writing friend, Paul Benjamin, who had done the Muppets version of King Arthur, a much cleaner, classic medieval-muppets mashup. That four book series was part of a longer line of Muppet spins on classic fairytales; there's also Muppet Robin Hood, Muppet Peter Pan, Muppet Snow White and Muppet Sherlock Holmes.

But while he "had fun matching [Muppets] with inappropriate properties," the real aha! moment came...

Hurry Up, Winter! Yehudi Mercado's Game of Thrones Muppet Posters
These are so brilliant, I almost have no words. Almost. Now before you look, let this serve as a warning to all who come here:

This is a post in reference to HBO's "Game of Thrones." I don't know who has seen what or read what, so if you don't want to see anything that you might consider a spoiler, don't look. If you choose to look, you're on your own. There's only one picture that I think could even vaguely be considered spoilerish, but since once a show airs, subsequent discussions are no longer spoilers, que sera sera. If you want out, get out now!

The delightful posters are the work of animator, writer, director and illustrator, Yehudi Mercado, author and illustrator of Buffalo Speedway and Throne of Secrets and founder of animation studio, HorseBack Salad. You can see a few more of these kickass imaginings at Mercado's site.

Poster for ‘The Case’ The Short Film Within J.J. Abrams ‘Super 8′
Regardless if you loved or hated J.J. Abrams Super 8, I think we can all agree that the additional ending, which featured The Case, the no-budget zombie film within the film (that plays out in its entirety over the closing credits) was the highlight of the feature. Well if you loved that short you should also appreciate this poster created by Yehudi Mercado.

Did you know that the movie-inside-the-movie was actually written and directed by the six kids. In an interview with MTV Elle Fanning has this to say:

“You have to stay [through the credits]! We actually wrote The Case. J.J. [Abrams told us] it had to be a zombie movie and that was the only thing we had, so during breaks, we would sit down and collaborate and make up the lines and everything,” she explained. “And then we actually shot it with a Super 8 camera.”...

Your Highness Triple Feature: RSVPs, Info, & Apologies
This is regarding the Your Highness: Swords & Sorcery Supreme event we posted on Facebook. If you’re just hearing about it now, the RSVPs are closed and counted and we will not be taking anymore. Thanks for your understanding.

Wow. We had quite a day trying to get this event set up, and due to some miscommunication, things got… well.. miscommunicated. Let’s start from the beginning! We get a lot of opportunities to bring you guys advanced promotional screenings for soon-to-be-released films. These opportunities usually come in the form of a studio request and are usually promoted via Facebook. Facebook isn’t necessarily the strongest system for managing the sheer volume of excited people RSVPing to these events, however, and this became very clear today. We are already moving forward on a new system that will allow us to announce RSVPs to our loyal Facebook followers but use...
